LAURA "LOLLY" BULLOCK
Milan
Laura "Lolly" Bullock, 94, of Milan died Feb. 11, 2007, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital with her loving family keeping vigil at her side. She was born May 17, 1912, in Central Lake to William Jordan and Laura Belle (Harris) Hornbeck.
Mrs. Bullock was well known and affectionately called "Lolly" by her family and friends. The family moved from Central Lake to Ypsilanti, where she attended Ypsilanti High School. She earned a bachelor's degree from Michigan State Normal College, now Eastern Michigan University. She taught home economics at East Detroit High School for 37 years.
Mrs. Bullock was an avid University of Michigan sports fan and a member of the Milan Senior Citizens. Her long and very active life included a great sense of humor, and a love of children, friends, nature, sports and music. She lovingly followed her grandnieces' and grandnephews' pursuits of hockey, soccer, football, baseball, ballet, piano and vocal programs.
Mrs. Bullock is survived by her devoted and loving family, including a nephew, Paul (Nina) Hamilton of Commerce Township; twin nieces, Barbara (Bill) Cornish of Ypsilanti and Joyce (Jim) Krohl of Milan; two grandnephews, David (Jinhee) Hamilton and Glenn (Jennifer) Cornish, and their sons, Aiden and Liam, Anthony (Sophia) Cornish, Rob (Elizabeth) Krohl and Jim Krohl; and a grandniece, Laura Onago.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, James, Charles and Bill Hornbeck; and a sister, Elizabeth Hamilton.
A memorial service celebrating Mrs. Bullock's life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church in Ypsilanti, where she was a member. The Rev. Keith Geiselman will officiate, with a family visitation following the service.
Interment will be in Central Lake.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Ypsilanti.

HAROLD PHILIP WEST
Saline
Harold Philip West, 83, of Saline died Feb. 3, 2007, with his family at his side. He was born Oct. 3, 1923, in Ann Arbor, the son of Arthel and Nellie (Smith) West.
Mr. West, a graduate of Ann Arbor High School, was a dedicated community servant.
On April 17, 1948, he married
Phyllis Holland, in Hartland, and she survives.
He was a World War II veteran, serving in England for 15 months as a corpsman with the 22nd General Hospital Group. He was a proud member of VFW Post 423, the United Methodist Church of Saline and the Saline Community Fair Board.
Mr. West served as Scoutmaster of Troop 446 in Saline for 33 years. During that time, he mentored 35 young men as they became Eagle Scouts. He continued his involvement with Scouts throughout his life, attending his last Scout event in December 2006.
Mr. West was excited to be honored as the grand marshal of the Saline Community Fair Parade in 2004. For many years, he was employed at the Saline A & P store as the dairy manager.
Mr. West was a loving husband, dedicated father, proud grandfather, excited great-grandfather, and beloved brother and uncle.
He is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis, of 58 years; two children, Ronald (Vicki) of Fenton and Peggy (Mac) Whitford of Oak Harbor, Wa.; three grandchildren, Andrew (Michelle) of Moore, Okla., Daniel (Andrea) of Lindenhurst, Ill., and Rebecca West of Ann Arbor; three great-grandchildren, Jacob West, Kaitlyn West and Juliana Weiss; his sister, Ethel Fritts; three brothers; Ralph (Marilyn), Roger (Ruth) and Gerald; 18 nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Duane;, his brother-in-law, Harold Fritts; and sister-in-law, Lois West.
A funeral was held Feb. 8 at Saline First United Methodist Church. The Rev. James Tuttle officiated. Burial was at Lodi Township cemetery.
The family has established the Harold West Memorial Eagle Scout Project Fund to assist young men in accomplishing their goal of becoming an Eagle Scout.

JACK L. PALMER
Milan
Jack L. Palmer, 77, of Milan died Feb. 5, 2007, at Select Specialty Hospital in Ann Arbor after a long illness. He was born Aug. 27, 1929, in Belding, to Ida and Lucien (Rogers) Palmer.
Mr. Palmer graduated from Western Michigan University and was employed with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan for 45 years. He is survived by his wife, Nina, of 51 years; two sons, Brian and William; a beloved grandson, Eric; a sister, Lila Krizaj of Higgins Lake; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Jan Marie Palmer-Harting.
Private services will be held at Marble Park cemetery.
Those who wish may make contributions to the Milan Public Library in Mr. Palmer's memory.

DONALD B. RUSS
Milan Township
Donald B. Russ, 73, of Milan Township died Feb. 9, 2007, at University of Michigan Hospitals in Ann Arbor.
Mr. Russ was born June 16, 1933, in York Township to Leo and Ailene (Call) Russ. On June 2, 1956, he married
Shirley Bishop in Angola, Ind., and she survives.
Additional survivors include his children, Debby and Doug Russ, Arlene Russ of Ann Arbor and Donna Russ of Arnett, W.Va.; five grandchildren, Ralph, Amy, Tabitha, Tina and James; and two sisters, Joyce (Mike) Paich of Milan and Shirley (William) Randolph of LeCanto, Fla.
Mr. Russ was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Richard, Robert and Leonard; and a sister, Lova Myers.
Mr. Russ was a devoted member to Bethel Baptist Church and retired from Tecumseh Products in 1996 after 43 years of service.
Visitation was held at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home in Milan. A funeral was held Monday. Burial followed at Mooreville cemetery.
JON DUDLEY AKERS
Newnan, Ga.
Jon Dudley Akers, 24, of Newnan, Ga., died Feb. 9, 2006.
He is survived by his parents, Russell Scott and Leigh Duncan Wills of Newnan and Lawrence Dennis Akers of Hapeville, Ga.; three sisters, Lindsey Denae Akers of Mohave Valley, Ariz., Nora Leigh-Ellen of Newnan and Stacey Sue (Steve) Shay of Hudson; and a grandmother, Melba Jane Duncan of Willis, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Dudley Farrell Duncan; and grandparents, Perry John Lincoln and Nora Ervenia Akers.
Visitation was Sunday. A funeral was held Monday at the McKoon Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Mark Anthony officiated. Burial was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
GLADYS MASON
Belleville
Gladys Mason, 92, of Belleville died Sept. 5, 2007, at Arbor Hospice in Ann Arbor. She was born Sept. 26, 1914, in Greenfield Township the daughter of the late Chauncey and Pearl (McClure) Price.
Mrs. Mason attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church in New Boston. In 1976, she retired from the Ford Motor Co. plant in Ypsilanti. She was a member of Local 849 and September Days Senior Center.
Mrs. Mason is survived by her four children, Charlotte (Cornell) Anton of Belleville, Richard H. (Donna) Mason of Ypsilanti, Phillip C. (Linda) Mason of Saline and Thomas (Deborah) Mason of Canton; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Mason, and a brother, Cletus Prince.
Visitation was held Friday at David C. Brown Funeral Home in Belleville. A funeral was held Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in New Boston. Interment was at Hillside cemetery in Belleville.

DONALD R. CHANDLER
Port St. Lucie, Fla.
Donald R. Chandler, 59, of Port Saint Lucie, Fla., died Oct. 30, 2006, at his residence in Port St. Lucie, Fla. He was born in Ashland, Ky., and was a resident of Port St. Lucie, Fla., for two years, coming from Saline.
He served in the Army, and was a veteran of the Vietnam War, receiving a Purple Heart. He was a member of the Ypsilanti Moose Lodge and the Ashland, Ky., Eagle's Lodge.
Mr. Chandler was the son of the late Fonnie Chandler and the late Sarah (Grim) Chandler.
He is survived by his wife, Donna (Hale) Chandler, of 40 years; a daughter, Heather Chandler of Saline; a son, Jeffrey Chandler of Milan; three sisters, Rushia Reffitt of Ohio, Judy Johnson of Kentucky and Billie Sexton of Florida; and two brothers, Otis Chandler of Kentucky and John Chandler of Kentucky.
A memorial service with military honors was held Friday at All County Funeral Home & Crematory in Stuart, Fla.
SHERYL "SHERRY" L. BORTLES
Saline
Sheryl "Sherry" L. Bortles, 62, of Saline died Nov. 2, 2006, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor. She was born March 23, 1944, in Wyandotte, the daughter of Fredrick and Avonelle (Tropp) Stanton.
On Nov. 23, 1963, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Milan, she married
Timothy L. Bortles, and he survives.
Mrs. Bortles enjoyed playing volleyball, bowling and the outdoors.
In addition to her husband, survivors include two daughters, Kelly Bortles and Beth Ann Bortles, and one grandchild, Caleb Kartha Bortles.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and two brothers.
Cremation has taken place, and memorial services were held Wednesday at the Marble Memorial United Methodist Church in Milan. The Rev. Kristine Sigal officiated.
Memorial contributions may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Envelopes are available at the church.

ANNE GRONDINE PROUT
Saline
Anne Prout, 100, died Nov. 6, 2006, and "has joined her Lord and savior, " her family said. She was born Dec. 19, 1905, on a farm in Powers the daughter of Gideon and Flora (Plourde) Grondine.
On Aug. 14, 1939, she married
Dr. Gordon J. Prout, a physician in Saline for 34 years. He preceded her in death in 1982.
Mrs. Prout was a homemaker and active member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church. She held the first meeting of Catholic women Sept. 20, 1950, in Saline to organize Catholic instruction for local Catholic children. The meeting led to the formation of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Saline.
Mrs. Prout was a charter member of the Saline Hospital Auxiliary, pursuing support of a new hospital, which was built in 1953. During the summer, she tended to her roses, planted a large garden and maintained a beautiful yard.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Sue (Joseph) Mancari and Ann Berardo; four grandchildren, Lynn Berardo, Michael Mancari, David (Haruko) Mancari and Susan (Kirk) Lignell; and three great-grandchildren, Michelle Mancari, Morgan Lignell and Connor Lignell.
A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Friday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Saline. The Rev. Gordon P. Reigle will serve as celebrant.
Burial will be at Oakwood cemetery in Saline.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church or to Saline Community Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the church, where friends may begin calling from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday.
