JACK D. THOMPSON
Milan
Jack D. Thompson, 88, died June 3, 2007. He was born April 14, 1919, in Milan to Guy and Mabel Thompson.
Mr. Thompson married
Wanda J. Thompson, and she preceded him in death Dec. 9, 2005.
A lifelong resident of Milan, Mr. Thompson was very active in the community. He started in business in the mid-1930s hauling used cars to South Dakota for resale. He founded Thompson Coal & Coke, Thompson Fuels and was a distributor for the Sun Oil Co., building the gas station at the corner of West Main and Platt Road.
He was a member of Milan Rotary Club, Peoples Presbyterian Church and the American Quarter Horse Association.
In 1950, Mr. Thompson was elected to Milan City Council. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, flying his own airplanes, raising and showing his prize-winning quarter horses, and watching his family participate in sports.
Mr. Thompson was inducted into the Milan Football Hall of Fame in 1997 as a Big Red Booster/supporter. He had countless friends and was known for his boundless energy. He could be described by many as a Milan personality.
Mr. Thompson will be greatly missed by his family and community.
Survivors includes his four children, Larry (Joanne) Thompson of Chesterfield, Mo., Von (Cindi) Thompson of Saline, Jon (Sharon) Thompson of Willis and Lou Ann Thompson of Milan; a niece, Kristin Craig Smith (Gerald) of Chelsea; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service honoring his life will be held 4 p.m. Sunday at the Peoples Presbyterian Church, 210 Smith St., in Milan.

THOMAS A SCRUGGS
Saline
Thomas A Scruggs of Saline, 70, died June 18, 2007, at his home with his family by his side, after a long battle with cancer. He was born Aug. 27, 1936, in Plymouth the son of Claude and Hazel (Hill) Scruggs.
On Aug. 20, 1983, he married
Janice Jo Jordan, and she survives.
Mr. Scruggs had been a computer repairman for IBM for many years until his retirement. He was a member of the U.S. Army Reserve, serving from 1954 to 1956, and attended the Fellowship Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, survivors include seven children, Thomas Al (Judy) Scruggs, Franklin J. Scruggs, Jack W. (Connie) Scruggs, Denise (Carl) Wintheiser, Lisa (Rob) Kaly, Erin E. (Ken) Percy and Kelly (Marc) Stratos-Duchene.
Other survivors include 18 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two brothers, one sister, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home Saline. The Rev. Bert Spann will officiate. Burial will follow in the Oakwood cemetery in Saline.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Fellowship Baptist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home, where friends may begin calling between 2 and 8 p.m. Thursday.
EDWARD E. CZYSZCZON
Saline - Edward E. Czyszczon, 86, of Saline died April 1, 2007. He was born Sept. 15, 1920, in Chicago the son of Joseph and Clementine (Marszalek) Czyszczon.
He married
Sally Falfas Rafacz Dec. 20, 1952, in Chicago, and she preceded him in death June 9, 1998.
Mr. Czyszczon was a member of the Ann Arbor congregation of the Jehovah's Witness.
He is survived by his children, Joanne Szymanski, Joseph Rafacz, John Rafacz, Phyllis Czyszczon Kierczak and Don Czyszczon; three sisters, Julia, Helen and Stephanie; three brothers, Eugene, Raymond and Julian; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Czyszczon was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two sons, Andrew and Robert Rafacz.
Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m. Saturday at Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home in Saline. His son-in-law, Dennis Kierczak, will officiate.
Cremation will follow the service.
JOSEPH BENEDICT
Clermont - Formerly of Milan - Joseph S. Benedict, 92, of Clermont died March 20, 2007.
Mr. Benedict moved to Clermont from Milan in 1980 into Emerald Lakes Mobil Home Park. He did a lot of fishing, but never quite caught the "big one, " his family said.
Mr. Benedict was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, and son, Carl.
He is survived by his son, Joseph Jr. (Mary) of Clermont; two grandchildren, Marie Lallos (Glen) of Clermont and Carl (Mary) of Montverde; and four great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Carson, Chace and Carleigh.
Visitation was held March 21 at Becker Funeral Home in Clermont. Interment will be private.
RITA CLARICE WALTHER
Milan
Rita Clarice Walther, 82, of Milan died June 28, 2007, at Evangelical Home-Saline surrounded by her loving family. She was born Oct. 7, 1924, in Marquette, to Peter and Pearl (Bernard) Schon. On July 12, 1944, she married
Glen W. Walther in Milan, and he survives.
Mrs. Walther worked for Wolverine Plastics and then for the Ypsilanti Regional Psychiatric Hospital for 23 years before retiring. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the State Employee Retirees Association. She also enjoyed handwork, crafts and had a love for animals.
In addition to her husband, survivors include three daughters, Bonnie (Dan) Gasperini of Milan, Susan (Steve) Keeler of Gaines and Staci (Tim) Mitchell of Sylvania, Ohio; three grandchildren, Keith (Crystal) Walther, Jennifer Keeler and Katherine (Lee) Alderson; five great-grandchildren, Brennon, Kristina, Kevin, Cora-Jean and Cole; and a brother, Robert Schon of Flint.
She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Kenneth.
Cremation has taken place and private burial will follow in Mooreville cemetery.
A memorial Mass was celebrated Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Milan.

LAURA L. WINKLE
Saline
Laura L. Winkle, 88, died July 1, 2007, at the Saline Evangelical Home. She was born June 20, 1919, in Freedom Township the daughter of Edward C. and Otillie (Schwartz) Stierle.
On Aug. 30, 1953, at the Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ann Arbor, she married
LaMar Jack Winkle, and he survives.
Mrs. Winkle was a resident of Washtenaw County most of her life. She was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Saline, where she was a member of the Mary Martha Guild and the Altar Society. She also had been a member of the Saline Community Hospital Women’s Auxiliary since 1974.
Mrs. Winkle had been employed for more than 35 years as a secretary for several accounting firms in Ann Arbor until her retirement.
In addition to her husband Jack, survivors include one sister, Helen (Ralph) Frey of Ann Arbor; two nieces and one nephew, Karen (Rick) Doering of Delano, Minn., Carol Frey of Ann Arbor and John E. (Kathy) Frey of Saline; and several grand-nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. July 14, 2007 at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Saline. The Rev. Mark H. Smith will officiate. Burial will take place at Oakwood cemetery in Saline.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church or the Saline Community Hospital Women’s Auxiliary. Envelopes will be available at the memorial service.

STEVEN S. LOSEY
Saline
Steven S. Losey, 46, of Saline died peacefully June 24, 2007, surrounded by a loving circle of family and friends following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born April 10, 1961, in Ann Arbor the son of Marilyn J. (Fiegel) Anderson and Roger S. Losey.
He is survived by his mother, Marilyn (Ralph) Anderson of Saline; his father, Roger Losey (Dene) of Grayling; and longtime fiancee, Helen Spradlin. He loved Helen’s daughter, Marisa, as his own, his family said.
Also surviving are his three sisters, Debra (Rick) Losey-Peterson of California, Michele (Mike) Viviano of Michigan and Deborah (Ron) Baker of Florida; and one brother, James (Kathy) Anderson of Michigan, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Mr. Losey loved his family, friends and pets. He enjoyed his trucks, cars and camping, as well as vacationing, snowmobiling and four-wheeling.
Mr. Losey was a 1980 graduate of Saline High School. He was a dedicated long-term employee of The Environmental Quality Co.
The family would like to extend their thanks to Arbor Hospice and to all those who helped.
The family received visitors June 26 at Nie Family Funeral Home. A funeral was held June 27. The Rev. Ronald Tipton officiated. Burial was at Oakwood cemetery in Saline.

WANDA S. MILKEY
Sumpter Township
Wanda S. Milkey, 62, of Sumpter Township died July 6, 2007, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. She was born April 13, 1945, in Ypsilanti to Walter and Della (Daniels) Sasin.
Mrs. Milkey enjoyed working as a cook at the Campfire Family Steakhouse Restaurant in Milan. She loved watching the Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Tigers. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, going to the casino and crocheting. She was very family oriented.
Survivors include her two sons, Chris (Jennifer) Scott of Belleville and Chet (Eileen) Milkey of Sylva, N.C.; two daughters, Lynn (Scott) Lorimer of Olathe, Kansas, and Kathy (Paula) Armstrong of Grandberry, Texas; eight grandchildren, Harry Cline Jr., Donny Cline, Samantha, Christina, Leslie and Brittany Scott, and Tyler and Caleb Milkey.
She is also survived by her mother, Della Sasin; two brothers, John (Terri) and Gary (Lisa) Sasin; and four sisters, Vicky Sasin, Betty and Bessie Daniels and Marsha (Rocky) Renda.
She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Sasin; son, Michael Todd Scott; grandson, Hunter Milkey; brother, Walter Sasin Jr.; Uncle Homer and Aunt Rachel.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. July 11 at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Service, 218 E. Main St., in Milan. The Rev. David J. Grinnell of York Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Marble Park cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
