Mrs. Isabell L. “Ise” Brock
Isabell L. “Ise” Brock, age 71, lifetime resident of Gaylord died Monday July 25, 2005. Mrs. Brock was born in Elmira on Aug 1, 1933, the daughter of Latimer and Martha (Wingo) Gates. She worked for Central Printing in Gaylord for 32 years. She enjoyed the outdoors, flowers and camping and loved teddy bears. She had a talent for crocheting and spent hours making afghans. She was preceded in death by her husband Alfred in 1968, her daughter Vicky, and her son Rocky. Her brother Douglas Gates and her sisters, Dorothy Lindsey and Pearl Strang, also preceded her in death. She is survived by her children, Jeff and his girlfriend Dee of Wolverine, Randy and his wife Tonya of Gaylord, Wendy Lauret of Gaylord; 13 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Verna Brock of Traverse City and Eleanor (Warren) Patterson of Florida. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Thursday, July 29, 2005 at 3 PM from the Nelson Funeral Home, Rev. John Naile officiating. Burial will follow at Hayes Township cemetery in Gaylord. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home will be held on Thursday from 1 PM until the time of services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation through the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1548, Gaylord MI 49734.

Mr. Rocky Brock
Rocky L. “Roy” Brock, 45 of Gaylord died Thursday, July 21, 2005 at his home. He was born in Gaylord on July 12, 1960 the son of Alfred and Isabell “Ise” (Gates) Brock. He enjoyed playing the guitar and hunting and loved the outdoors. He had previously worked for Lakes State Tree Service for a number of years, and was currently employed by Trees Inc. He was preceded in death by his father Alfred in 1968, and his sister Vicky. His mother, Ise Brock died on July 25, 2005. He is survived by his daughter, Lyndsey Brock of Gaylord; his brothers, Jeff and his girlfriend Dee of Wolverine, Randy and his wife Tonya of Gaylord; his sister, Wendy Lauret of Gaylord; several nieces and nephews. MEMORIAL SERVICES will be held on Thursday, July 29, 2005 at 3 PM from the Nelson Funeral Home, Rev. John Naile officiating. Burial will take place at Hayes Township cemetery in Gaylord. Friends may call at the Nelson Funeral Home will on Thursday from 1 PM until the time of services. Mrs. Paula Burke
Paula Jean Burke, 75, of Gaylord died Thursday, June 16, 2005 at home after a brief illness. She was born October 7, 1929 in Detroit, the daughter of Nicholas and Bertha Stuhlsatz. Paula married Edward M. Burke Jr. in Montgomery, AL. They had moved to Otsego County from Redford Twp. Paula worked in the family tile business as secretary and bookkeeper. Edward preceded her in death in 1996. She was a member of St. Mary Cathedral and the Daughters of Isabella. She was a former volunteer with R.S.V.P. of Otsego County and Otsego Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing and quilting, working crossword puzzles and playing Euchre at Alten Zimmer. She is survived by her children, Sean (Nicholas Bommarito) Burke, E. Michael (Nancy) Burke III, Maureen (Dennis) Borowiak, and Paul (Kary) Burke all of Gaylord, and Patricia (Donald) Kanners of Commerce Twp.; 18 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and sisters Grace Gariepy and Helen Ann Vincent. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Monday, June 20, 2005 from St. Mary Cathedral with Rev. John McCracken officiating. Burial will be at Resurrection cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-7 pm at the Nelson Funeral Home and from 10-11am Monday at St. Mary Cathedral. St. Mary Daughters of Isabella will offer a rosary on Sunday at 3:00pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan, through the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Mr. Edward Burzynski Mr. Edward A. Burzynski, age 81 of Gaylord died Friday, July 29, 2005. Ed was born July 26, 1924 in Gaylord the son of Albert and Katherine (Kwapis) Burzynski. He attended Big Lake School and received his high school diploma from Gaylord High School. On April 28, 1945 he married the former Frances Nowak. The couple raised a family and farmed for many years. In addition, Mr. Burzynski had worked as an electrician, a builder, and sexton for St. Mary cemeterys. He had also worked for Standard Products. He was a member of St. Mary Cathedral parish, St. Mary Altar Rosary Society and St. Mary Knights of Columbus. He was a longtime leader of 4-H in Otsego County. Mr. Burzynski was preceded in death by his wife Frances on March 17, 2005. He is survived by his children, Loretta (David) Kasprzyk of Twin Lakes, Lenard (Shasta) Burzynski of Sault Ste. Marie, Rosalie (Gregory) Baran of Haslett, Thomas (Deni) Burzynski of Gaylord, Dorothy (Charles) King of Houston, Texas, Jean (Leon) Miller of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Jennifer Burzynski of Cincinnati, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren (with #10 on the way); 2 brothers, Joseph Burzynski of Gaylord and Chester Burzynski of Jackson; 2 sisters, Theresa Smolak of Jackson and Betty Damer of Bellaire. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Leo and Benny, and 2 grandchildren. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Tuesday, August 2, 2005 at 11 AM from St. Mary Cathedral, Rev. John McCracken, officiating. Burial will take place at Resurrection cemetery in Gaylord. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home will be held on Sunday from 6-8 PM, Monday from 1-8 PM and at the cathedral on Tuesday beginning at 10 AM. St. Mary Altar Rosary Society will offer a rosary Sunday evening at 6:30 PM. St. Mary Knights of Columbus will offer a rosary Monday evening at 7 PM. Mrs. Mabel Coleman
Mabel I. Coleman, age 100 of Hillman died July 25, 2005. Mrs. Coleman, one of ten children, was born in Nova Scotia, Canada on November 4, 1904 and moved to Hillman from Royal Oak. She was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Birmingham, a charter member of the Mature Members and a member of the Allied Youth Program who were active in organizing dances including the New Years Eve dance at the Masonic Temple. She enjoyed the outdoors and gardening. Mrs. Coleman was preceded in death by her husband Robert Coleman in 1985. She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie (Rick) Shaw of Hillman; 4 grandchildren, Sandra, Robert and Debbie Shaw and Susan (Rob) Young; 2 great grandchildren, Cody and Brenda Young; 1 sister, Helen Reilich of Sarasota, FL. Services were held at the Nelson Funeral Home in Gaylord on Friday, July 29, 2005. Burial will take place at White Chapel cemetery in Troy. Mrs. Sheila Ann Curran
Sheila Ann Curran, age 71 of Gaylord died Monday, August 22, 2005 at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey. She was born in Detroit on March 8, 1934. She had lived in Livonia, was a graduate of St. Mary Commercial and later attended the University of Detroit. In addition to being a homemaker, she worked as an administrative assistant at General Motors and later a customer service representative at Ford Motor for 14 ½ years. She and her husband retired on May 1, 1991 and in November of that year they moved to Gaylord. Mrs. Curran was a member of St. Mary cathedral parish. She is survived by her husband, Gerald; her children, Margaret (David) Wright of West Bloomfield, Michael (Denise) of Troy, Maureen (Anthony) Winfree of Highland, Elizabeth Ann Curran of Ann Arbor, Paul Joseph (Susan) of Livonia; 10 grandchildren, Kevin, Kathrine, Meghan, Jack, Kenneth, Colleen, Margaret, Kelli, Sarah and Michael. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2005 at 10 AM from St. Mary Cathedral. Burial will follow at Resurrection cemetery. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home will be held on Thursday from 6 to 9 PM and on Friday from Noon to 4 PM and 6 to 9 PM. Visitation will continue on Saturday at the cathedral beginning at 9 AM. The Ancient Order of Hibernians will recite the rosary Thursday evening at 7 PM. St. Mary Knights of Columbus will recite the rosary Friday evening at 7 PM. Mrs. Mary Eleanor Engel
Mary Eleanor Engel, age 89, longtime Gaylord resident, died Tuesday, June 28, 2005. Mrs. Engel was born in Detroit on March 19, 1916. She had been the bookkeeper for the Gaylord Lumber Company for many years and in her free time enjoyed bowling and loved to golf. Mrs. Engel was a past president of the Otsego memorial Hospital Auxiliary. MEMORIAL SERVICES will be held on Friday, July 1, 2005 at 4 PM from the Nelson Funeral Home, Rev. John McCracken, officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday beginning at 2:00 PM. Mrs. Engel is survived by her husband, Lewis; her daughter, Ronnalee (Gary) Gleason of Gaylord, her son, Bill (Donna) Engel of Gaylord; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Her brother Eugene Magnee preceded her in death. Memorial contributions may be made to the Otsego County Commission on Aging, through the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1548, Gaylord MI 49734.

Mr. Ted Engel, Jr.
Mr. Theodore Engel, age 75, of Gaylord died Tuesday, May 17, 2005 at his home. He was born Nov. 2, 1929 in Alba. Ted was a geologist, contractor, and a business owner of the Chalet Motor Lodge for over 20 years. He was the pastor for Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints now the Community of Christ for 16 years and was an Elder for the Church for many years. He was a counselor with Catholic Human Services, the Friendship Shelter and Harbor Hall in Petoskey before retiring last July. He was very active in his community including being on the Otsego Memorial Hospital Board, Chamber of Commerce Board, Kiwanis Club, the Economic Development Corp., the Intermediate School District Board, Habitat for Humanity, Outreach International, and Alpenfest committees and was honored as Buergermeister in 1983. He loved the outdoors, being with people, flying, reading, traveling, mountain climbing, backpacking, canoeing and was world champion in the Ausable canoe race for 3 years in a row in the early 1950’s. Most of all he loved being with and enjoying his family, especially his grandchildren. Services for Mr. Ted Engel will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2005 at 2 PM from the First United Methodist Church. Matt Kinsinger officiating. Friends may gather with the family on Friday evening from 5-9 pm at the Nelson Funeral Home and at the church on Saturday beginning at 1PM until the time of service. Mr. Engel is survived by his wife of 51 years, Joyce; his children, Dave (Sue) of Gaylord, Karen (Mike) Stotts of Lander, WY, Kathy (Jeff) McLuckie of Lee’s Summit, MO; grandchildren, Jordan and Alexa Engel, Annikki and Sam Haivala, Ashley and Erin Stotts, Caitlin and Aiden McLuckie, Bill and Leslie Brown and Sarah Seiler; sister, Jeanne (Carl) Rossman of Owosso; also many nieces, nephews and cousins including Denny (Kris) Turbin. He was preceded in death by his parents Theodore A. and Thelma Engel, sister Joyce Packer, and daughter-in-law Kerri Engel. Mrs. Marilyn (Hoogstraten) Ford
Marilyn (Hoogstraten) Ford, 70 of Gaylord died Saturday, July 23, 2005 at her home. Mrs. Ford was born in Kalamazoo on August 19, 1934, the daughter of Otto and Clara (Dieterman) Moyer. She had been employed with Michigan Bell in the Kalamazoo, Petoskey and Traverse City areas. She enjoyed camping, gardening and NASCAR. Mrs. Ford is survived by two daughters, Sue (Larry) Nowak of Gaylord, Dara (Fred) Hiedema of Holland; one son, Douglas (Margo) Hoogstraten of Wolverine; 11 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; one sister, Norma Earl of Grand Junction, CO; and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George Ford, a son at birth, David Matthew Hoogstraten and her longtime companion, her beagle Molly. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Wednesday, July 27, 2005 at 1200 PM from Holy Redeemer Church in Vanderbilt, Father John McCracken officiating. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home will be held on Tuesday from 5-8 PM and on Wednesday at the church beginning at 11 AM. Memorial contributions may be made to Vital Care Hospice or to the Otsego County Animal Shelter through the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1548, Gaylord, MI 49734.

Mrs. Delores Foust
Mrs. Delores A. Foust, age 78 of Lewiston died Saturday, July 30, 2005 at Otsego Memorial Hospital. She was born in Lincoln Park on January 13, 1927 and had been living in Lewiston the past 8 years. In February 2, 1957 she married Clare Foust. In 1966 the couple began traveling throughout the United States building log homes. They were active in senior citizens groups throughout. Mrs. Foust attended the Lovells Community Church and loved animals. She was preceded in death by her husband Clare in 2001. She is survived by two children, Charles (Barbara) Foust of Six Lakes, MI and Linda Foust; and two grandchildren, Chuck Foust and Carol Ann Cavanaugh. Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Mr. Dale Fox
Dale W. Fox, age 76 of Johannesburg, passed away Thursday, August 4, 2005. He was born December 4, 1928 in Chester Twp. to Charles and Minnie (Waters) Fox. He was a lifelong area resident, and graduated from Johannesburg Rural Agricultural School. Dale served his country as a paratrooper in the United States Army 11th Airborne Division. On August 19, 1967 he married Ina Jean Campbell of Johannesburg, where she currently resides. Mr. Fox had worked at the General Motors Oldsmobile plant in Lansing and also for the State of Michigan Highway Department. For several years, he was the owner/operator of the Fox’s Standard Service in Johannesburg. Dale was a member and Past Commander of American Legion Post #198 and a member of Lodge #581 F & AM in Lewiston. He was also a life member of the 11th Airborne Division Association, the Michigan Wild Turkey Hunters Association and a board member of Top of Michigan Rural Electric Company. He enjoyed hunting turkey and deer, bowling, playing cards, and doing crossword puzzles. He was preceded in death by sisters, Wilma Sampson and Ruth Mirling, and brothers Frank, Ted, Ronald, and Ralph Fox. In addition to his wife, Ina Jean, he is survived by his children, Eric Storm (Janet) Fox of Orion Twp, and Becky Fox (Brandon Hatch) of Waterford; a granddaughter, Alana Fox of Orion Twp.; a brother, Max Fox of Johannesburg; and several nieces and nephews. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Monday, August 8, 2005 at 2:00 PM from the Nelson Funeral Home in Gaylord, Rev. Thomas Mammoser, officiating. Burial will take place at Mt. Hope cemetery in Johannesburg. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home in Gaylord will be held on Sunday, 1-8 PM and on Monday beginning at 1 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fox Family to be used for charities to be selected later, through the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1548, Gaylord MI 49734.

Mrs. Darlene French
Darlene Nancy French, age 57 of Mio died Sat. May 21, 2005. She was born on Feb. 28, 1948, and retired from State Farm Insurance Co. on Dec. 31, 2003. Memorial Services will be held on Weds. May 25th at 7:00 pm from the Wm. Sullivan & Sons Funeral Home, 8459 Hall Rd., Utica, MI. Visitation will be from 5:30 p.m. until the time of service. She is survived by her husband Michael, son Matthew Graham, and mother Margaret Benoot. Also surviving are her sisters Wanda Buck, Sherry Wardwell, Paula Oles, Kim Bickes, and brothers Randy and Ron Benoot. Mr. Marvin Geikowski, Jr.
Marvin W. Geikowski, Jr., 47 of Atlanta died Thursday, June 16, 2005. Marvin was born in Taylor on May 23, 1958, the son of Marvin Sr. and Josephine (Kolakowski) Geikowski. He had lived in Arizona for a number of years before moving to Gaylord in 1989. He then moved to Atlanta in 1991. He had a love of the outdoors, hunting and fishing and was an all-round sportsman. He was also a member of St. Francis parish in Lewiston. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2005 at 11 AM from St. Francis Church in Lewiston, Father Gregory Kurutz, officiating. Burial will follow at St. Francis cemetery. Visitation will be held at St. Francis Church on Friday from 4-8 PM and on Saturday beginning at 10 AM. Mr. Geikowski is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Geikowski of Indian River; his parents, Marvin Sr. and Josephine of Atlanta; grandson, Dillan Geikowski; two brothers, Dennis Geikowski of Taylor and Dean (Tannis) Geikowski of Arizona; one sister, Cynthia Casady of Atlanta. His daughter Danielle and his brother Ronald preceded him in death. Memorial contributions may be made to the Geikowski family through the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1548, Gaylord MI 49734.

Mr. Nicholas Alan Griffith
Nicholas Alan Griffith, 22 of Gaylord died Monday, July 11, 2005 at his home. Nick was born in Flint on June 13, 1983 the son of Robert and Kenetha (King) Griffith. He was raised in Gaylord and had recently lived for 6 months in St. Augustine Florida. He had attended St. Mary Cathedral School and Gaylord Community Schools. Nick was currently working at the Spud Warehouse and Edward’s Sign Studio in Gaylord. He loved the outdoors; hunting, fishing and snowmobiling and had a passion for writing poetry. He also enjoyed working on his Camaro. Nick is survived by his parents, Robert and Kenetha Griffith of Gaylord; his sisters, Olivia A. Smith and her husband Robert of Gaylord, Monica S. Griffith-Braud and her husband Curt of Gonzales, LA; niece, Madison MacQuarrie of Gaylord; grandparents, Roy and Helen Griffith of Atlanta, MI; many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents William and Anna King. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2005 at 11 AM from St. Mary Cathedral in Gaylord, Rev. John McCracken, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview cemetery in Gaylord. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home will be held on Wednesday from 4-9 PM and at the cathedral on Thursday beginning at 10 AM. A rosary will be offered at the funeral home Wednesday evening at 7 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Griffith family to be used for various charities, through the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1548, Gaylord MI 49734.
