PICKARD, Gary D. Of Millington,
age 53, died Tuesday, July 14, 1998 at Hurley Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Friday, July 17, 1998 at the Clio Chapel of Whipple Family Funeral Homes. Burial in Millington Township cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 4-9PM and Thursday 1-4 and 6- 9PM. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice. Mr. Pickard was born September 29, 1944 in Mt. Clemens, Michigan to Richard and Ethel (Goheen) Pickard. He had resided in Millington the past 20 years coming from Flushing. Gary married Jane E. Morningstar, March 10, 1979. He retired from Chevrolet Manufacturing in 1995 with 30 years of service. He was also a member of UAW Local 659. Mr. Pickard was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was a founding member of the Morning Optimist Club in Flushing and was a freelance photographer for several newspapers and the Millington Police and Fire departments. Surviving are: wife, Jane; 2 sons, Darren Pickard of Flint and Damon Pickard of Flushing; step-children, Bryan (Lois) Morningstar of Berkley, Jeff (Mindy) Morningstar of Millington, Lori (John) Haller of Bay City, and Matthew Morningstar of Grand Blanc; 9 grandchildren; parents, Richard and Ethel Pickard of Gladwin; 2 brothers, Kenneth (Sharon) Pickard of Midland and Dennis (Brenda) Pickard of Gladwin; several nieces and nephews. Mr. Pickard was preceded in death by his brother Richard.

age 82, died Monday, July 13, 1998 at Genesys Health Park in Grand Blanc. Funeral services will be held at 1PM Friday, July 17, 1998 at the First Baptist Church of Mt. Morris, Rev. Richard Cook officiating. Burial in Flint Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6-9PM and Thursday from 1-9PM. Mr. Sweet will lie in state at the church on Friday from 11AM until time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Mt. Morris. Mr. Sweet was born March 2, 1916 in Monticello, Indiana to William and Edna (Grieb) Sweet. William achieved the rank of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts. He married Dorothy A. Wesby September 10, 1955 in Mt. Morris. Mr. Sweet was a World War II Veteran and was the recipient of 2 Bronze Stars. He was retired from General Motors with 37 years of service. Surviving are: wife, Dorothy; daughter, Sharon and husband Michael Bois of Mt. Morris; sons, William H. and wife Eleanor Sweet of Webberville, MI, Gary Lee and wife Pamela Sweet of Louisville, KY; 3 sisters, Doris (Les) George of Ann Arbor, Ruth (Wayne) Schoeppach of Swartz Creek, Phyllis (Robert) Blake of Mt. Morris; brother, Gene (Shirley) Sweet of Flushing; 8 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

HARTKER, Frederick William Jr. "Rick" Of Grand Blanc,
age 53, passed away Monday, July 13, 1998 at his home. Funeral services will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, July 16, 1998 at the Hill Funeral Home, 11723 S. Saginaw St., Grand Blanc, Rev. Robert L. Chadwick officiating. Cremation to follow. Visitation from 5-9 p.m. today and 5 p.m. Thursday until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Rick was born in Bay Village, OH on November 10, 1944, the son of Frederick and Miriam (Herbstreit) Hartker. He was a 1962 graduate of Grand Blanc High School and received a BA and MBA from Michigan State University. Frederick married Dorothy Sue Boswell in Flint on December 18, 1965. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Grand Blanc. Rick brought soccer to the Genesee County area and was just honored by the community with a recent dedication of the Frederick William Hartker Jr. Youth Soccer Complex. Mr. Hartker was employed by General Motors for 31 years. He was a devoted and loving husband and father, and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Surviving are: his wife, Sue; 3 sons, Frederick III "Rick" and wife Marigene of Chicago, Matthew and Gregory, both of Grand Blanc; parents, Frederick and Miriam Hartker; 2 sisters, Marilee and husband Glenn Duddles of Knoxville, TN, Cynthia and husband Jon Herbik of St. Charles, MO; sister-in-law, Monalou and husband Charles Michel of Coffeyville, KS; aunts and uncles, Ray and Pearl Hartker of Mansfield, OH, Jack and Ruth Herbstreit of Boulder, CO; several nieces, nephews and cousins; many friends.

NELSON, Dorothy
- Age 72, of Springfield, Missouri, died at 3:10PM Tuesday, February 9, 1999 at her home. Mrs. Nelson was born January 14, 1927 to G. Birger and Dorothy Pohl Nelson near Centroplis, Franklin County, Kansas, Ms. Nelson completed eight grade at Minneola School and graduated from Ottawa Senior High School. Following completion of nursing education program at Newman Memorial County Hospital, Emporia, Kansas, was employed at Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa. While living in Ottawa she attended Calvary Baptist Church and was a member of Beta Sigma Phi. In 1952 Ms. Nelson graduated from Wheaton College, Illinois, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. Ms. Nelson taught sciences at Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing, Chicago until 1956. In addition to professional organizations Ms. Nelson was active in the Nurses Christian Fellowship and Inter-varsity Christian Fellowship. Ms. Nelson resided in Flint, Michigan for thirty years where she was employed as surgical nursing instructor, acting Director and Assistant Director of Hurley Medical Center School of Nursing. She attended Riverdale Baptist Church, and continued her interest in the previously listed organizations, and was a Big Sister and served on the Board of Directors of the Big Sisters of Flint, Genesee County. Ms. Nelson was always interested in drawing, painting and crafts, she gave chalk talks for various groups and painted murals for Baptistries in Michigan, Nebraska and Kansas. Ms. Nelson retired in 1984 and moved to Springfield, MO, and was active in volunteer work. Survived by adopted daughter, Lynda Davis Oatley; and granddaughter, Carmen of Apply Valley, Minnesota; sister, Wilma Nelson Springer; brother, Theodore Nelson, both of rural Ottawa; 2 nieces; 5 nephews; and a number of "Young People" with whom she shared her home through the years; 10 grand nieces; and 5 grand nephews; 2 great- grand nieces; a great-grand nephew. ABDELLA, Sub-Deacon Nicholas
- Age 80, of Davison, died at McLaren Regional Medical Center on Friday, February 19, 1999. Mr. Abdella was born in Bay City on November 4, 1918 and had lived in the Flint area most of his life time. He had been employed at General Motors as a Lab Technician, retiring in 1974 after 33 years of service. Mr. Abdella was an active lifetime member of St. George Orthodox Church, was a Sub-Deacon of the church, served as a church school teacher and an altar server. He was also an active member of the Pan-Orthodox/Holy Cross Society. He enjoyed woodworking, walking and sports. Surviving are: his son, Steve Abdella of Davison; brother, Edward Abdella of Burton; a sister, Lila Starwas of Flint, along with many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a close personal friend, Sandy Tvardos. Mr. Abdella was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Julia Abdella, 2 sisters, Grace Warde and Ann Jarou and 2 brothers, George and David. His funeral will be 10AM Monday, February 22, 1999 at St. George Orthodox Church, 5191 Lennon Rd., The V. Rev. Fr. Joseph M. Abud officiating with burial to follow in Sunset Hills cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8PM tonight at Reigle Funeral Home Sunset Chapel, 5501 W. Pierson Rd. and on Sunday from 2 to 8PM at St. George Orthodox Church. A Trisagion (Memorial) service will be 7:30PM Sunday at the church. Memorial gifts in his name may be offered to the church.

Burial in New Calvary Catholic cemetery. Mrs. Halloran will lie in state at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., where the family will receive visitors from 9AM-3PM and 5-9PM on Saturday and Sunday. Visitation will be at the church on Monday from 10AM until the time of the service. Edna was born in Zanesville, Ohio on August 12, 1917. She married William Edward Miller of Zanesville, OH, having 2 daughters, Kay M. Lane and husband Robert of Potomac, MD, Judy McIlwee and husband Ronald of Ruther Glen, Virginia. William preceded her in death. She then married Harold H. Halloran, having 2 sons, Anthony Halloran of Owosso, MI, Patrick Halloran and wife Kathryn of Gladwin, MI. Harold has preceded her in death. Edna was an active member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, where she was treasurer of the Rebekah Circle. Mrs. Halloran is survived by: her 4 children; 5 grandchildren, Joseph Halloran, Mark McIlwee, Sandra Hunt, Michael Lane, Lauren Chaffee; 2 great-grandchildren, Meaghan Hunt, Timothy Hunt; 2 brothers, Russell and William Smith; sister, Helen Louise King; several nieces and nephews; very special loving friends, Bob Church, Jim and Lucille Heather, Pearl Slama. She was preceded in death by sister, Janice Stallsmith; 3 grandsons, Scott Halloran, Clinton Lane, Bryan Halloran. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Bryan Halloran memorial scholarship fund. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Funeral service will be held at 12Noon today at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Joyel W. Cole officiating. Cremation will take place following the service. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Hougen Foundation, P.O. Box 2005, Flint, Michigan 48501-2005, a charitable fund established by Hougen in 1981 that has assets of about $2.6 million.

Mr. Jabs was born in Simmelsdorf, Germany on March 18, 1952. He married Margaret Paul in Flint, Michigan on May 25, 1974. He was a member of UAW Local 598 and was employed at GM Truck and Bus. Surviving are his wife, Margaret; children, Rebecca and Michael of Flint; father, Ephraim of Swartz Creek; brothers, Fred and wife Jean of Harleysville, PA, Ed and wife Ann of Owosso; sisters, Selma and husband Hugo Molzahn of Warminster, PA, Benita and husband Helmut Jaster of Swartz Creek, Ida and husband Alex Koch of Horsham, PA, Hilde and husband Steve Panzer of Red Hill, PA; many nieces and nephews; best friend, Robert and wife Linda Presson of Flint. He was preceded in death by his mother, Alwine in June, 1975.

Flint St., Davison, Pastor Randall P. Schultz officiating. Burial at Davison cemetery. Mrs. Kaiser will lie in state at Allen Funeral Home, 9163 Davison Rd., where the family will receive visitors from 12-4PM and 6-9PM on Sunday, and 1-4PM and 6-9PM on Monday. On Tuesday, she will lie in state at the church from 11AM until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Sunday School or Genesys Hospice Care Center in Goodrich. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Mrs. Kaiser was born in Germany on August 24, 1910, the daughter of Ferdinand and Johanna (Tauber) Beyer. She lived in the Davison area since 1936. Emily married Herman Kaiser on October 6, 1928 in Owosso, and he preceded her in death on December 5, 1991. She was a charter member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School for 34 years. She is survived by: daughter and son-in-law, Norma Jean and Earl Kosbar of Davison; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Sandra Kaiser of Davison; grandchildren, Jeanine (Jim) Moakes, Brian (Debra) Kosbar, Jill Dickinson, Julie (Tom) DeMaria, Joseph Kaiser, Paul Kaiser, Luke Kaiser; great-grandchildren, Angela Moakes, Matthew Moakes, Clayton Dickinson, Alex Renee Kaiser, Samantha Stewart; sisters, Emma Shafer, Johanna Clagg. She was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
