Kozak, Joe, Maybee, MI
Age 91, passed away February 28, 2000 at home. He was born September 21, 1908 in Sovchomone, Lithuania, the son of Frank and Helen (Rogevich) Kozak. He married Antoinette Domas and she was preceded him in death. He then spent the last 25 years with Stella Haight. Joe was a musician most of his life; he owned/operated Philgas Music and Appliance Store in Maybee. Survivors include Stella Haight of Pennsylvania; his two daughters, Helen Thorn and Joyce Higgins, both of Ypsilanti; a son, Jim (Suzanne) Kozak of Ypsilanti; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; three special adopted grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Walter and a granddaughter. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, March 3, 2000 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel with Pastor Gordon Moore of the Milan Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Northside cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home where the family will receive friends on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m.
Stoll, Helen Elizabeth
Ann Arbor, MIAge 96, passed away February 29, 2000 at the Heartland Health Center. Helen was a lifelong resident of Ann Arbor. She was born November 10, 1903 to the late Albert and Mary Burnham. On January 16, 1932 she married Carl Stoll and he survives. This year they lovingly celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary. She had been a lifelong member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ, actively participating in every facet of church life, including Women's Auxiliary and her beloved Sewing Circle. Helen enjoyed life to the fullest. She loved to cook, fish, sew, play cards and volunteer. The times Helen was happiest was when she and Carl were at their summer cottage on Sugarloaf Lake in Chelsea with their family and friends. Many incredible memories were made there. She was the beloved mother of Myrna Pancost (Jim) and Richard Stoll (Kaye); loving grandmother of Debbie Belcher (Gary Bengtson), Sheri Belcher (Todd Tribble), Stacy Belcher and Kevin Stoll. The most precious to her were her great-grandchildren whom she cherished deeply, Bradley and Courtney Deitzen and Tyler Tribble; special people, Louis and Jane Belcher; four step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers. She will be missed by all, but is peacefully with the Lord. Visitation will be Sunday, March 5 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at MUEHLIG FUNERAL CHAPEL. A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 6 at 1 p.m. at Bethlehem United Church of Christ with Reverend Greg Smith officiating. Gross, Genevieve F., Saline, MI
Age 90, died Wednesday March 1, 2000 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI. She was born February 17, 1910 in Macon, MI, the daughter of John and Grace (Kuder) Camburn. She was a Saline resident all of her life. On June 25, 1931 in Saline, MI she was married to Alwin F. Gross and he preceded her in death on July 14, 1982. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Saline and a life member and Past Matron of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #311 of Saline, MI. Survivors include her son, Robert A Gross and his wife Marianna of Coldwater, MI; her daughter, Mrs. Constance Gonser and her husband Harrison of Tecumseh, MI; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, George Camburn of Macon and sister, Marilyn Blayer of Ann Arbor. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Collene Richter; a great-grandson and a sister, Ruth Spetter. Funeral will be held Saturday March 4, 2000 at 11 a.m. from the Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home, Saline. Burial will take place in Macon cemetery, Macon. Brooks, Sylvia M., Ypsilanti, MI
Age 80, died peacefully at 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 29, 2000 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Ann Arbor. She was born on February 12, 1920 in Ypsilanti, the daughter of Ray H. and Julia (Rust) Burrell. Sylvia graduated from Roosevelt High School, Ypsilanti, Class of 1937 and attended University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She was married in 1939 to Warren Wilfred Brooks and had devoted her time to raising four children. She was active in the community as a Brownie Scout leader, Cub Scout Leader and Girl Scout board member. Sylvia also belonged to the Ladies Literary Club and First United Methodist Church of Ypsilanti. She volunteered at Well Baby Clinic, Thrift Shop and Ypsilanti Players. She always enjoyed flowers, cooking, skiing, traveling, shopping, and was a member of a bridge group for over 50 years. Survivors include her husband, Wilfred; three daughters Joyce (Joe) Howell of St. Joseph,MI, N. Erin Brooks (Joe Bidwell) of Tucson, AZ and Sally (Ted) Frazier of Laingsburg, MI; one son, Roger (Ronnie) Brooks of St. Paul, MN;her two brothers, Wesley Burrell of Galesburg, MI and Allen Burrell of Grand Rapids; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Sylvia was preceded in death by one infant son; her parents, Ray H. and Julia Burrell; two brothers, Eugene E. of Dundee, MI and Alfred L. of Ypsilanti. Funeral services 11 a.m. Saturday, March 4 at the First United Methodist Church of Ypsilanti with Rev. Terry Wayne Allen officiating. Gooding, James L., Tipton, MI
Age 64, passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2000 in the Herrick Memorial Hospital in Tecumseh. He was born May 11, 1935 in Ypsilanti, MI, the son of Edgar and Frances (Forsythe) Gooding. He lived in the Tipton area the past 46 years coming from Milan. He was a graduate of Milan High School in 1953 and married the former Dorothy M. Bickham on April 1, 1955 in Springville, MI; she survives. Mr. Gooding was a retired supervisor at the Ford Motor Co. in Ypsilanti where he was employed for 35 years. Heenjoyed farming, hunting, fishing and gardening. Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, Debra Campbell and her husband Arthur of Adrian and Judith Gooding of Tipton; one son, Mitch Gooding and his wife Kristine of Onsted; his grandchildren, Michael Gooding, A.J. Campbell, Lauren and Trenton Gooding; and by a sister-in-law, Carolyn Gooding of Onsted. He was preceded in death by his parents; and by a brother, Hugh Gooding.Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 4, 2000 at the Dunn Chapel, BROWN-VAN HEMERTFUNERAL HOME in Onsted with the Rev. Aden Porter officiating.Interment will be made in the Maple Shade cemetery, Onsted. Age 66, died March 1, 2000. Born July 9, 1933, she was a daughter of Leonard and Constance Diesenroth Meyers. In 1954, she married George Hellner in St. Patrick's Catholic Church and he survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Sherlynn (Glenn) Schultz, and Jan (Bill) Muck; two grandchildren, Michael and Marcee Grange;a brother, Robert Meyers and a sister, Virginia Runyon; and two nieces. She was preceded in death by one brother. Geraldine was an avid gardener,fisherman, and snowmobiler. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, March 4, 2000 at the Hosmer-Muehlig Funeral Chapel in Dexter, with Fr. Brendan Walsh presiding. Visitation will be on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery, Dexter. MacMullan, Elna Lahti,
Age 75, an Ann Arbor resident for over 40 years, passed away peacefully at Arbor Hospice on February 23, 2000, surrounded by the love of her family and friends. Born May 13, 1924 in Gurnee, IL to Victor and Marie Lahti, she is survived by her brother Wayne Lahti and his wife Beulah of Paso Robles, CA; her sister, Thelma Larsen of Conover, WI, her sister, Martha DeTogne and her husband Harold of Libertyville, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Wilbert and Allen Lahti; and her dear aunt Emilia Makela. Moving to Ann Arbor to pursue an art degree, she married Donald MacMullan in 1951. They were divorced in 1966. Beloved mother of Austin MacMullan of Marietta, GA, Neil MacMullan of Gold River, CA, Maija MacMullan Stein of Bothell, WA; beloved grandmother to Annie and Chelsea MacMullan, Jessica and Zachary Stein, Michael and Kathy Pelletier; beloved great-grandmother to Michael Vaughan Pelletier; beloved aunt and great-aunt to many. She will be eternally missed. A lifelong learner, her academic achievements included graduation from Warren Township High School in Gurnee, IL in 1942 as a National Merit Scholar. She earned her Nursing Degree from Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago, IL in 1947 and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and certification in Social Work from the University of Michigan. She was co-chair of the committee that established the annual Ann Arbor Art Fair and had exhibited paintings and other art work in the Ann Arbor area. She was employed by University of Michigan graphics department for many years, then National Council on Alcoholism. She returned to nursing and employment with the University of Michigan Hospital, earning a certification in rehabilitation nursing, before her retirement. She is remembered as a resourceful, generous and loving soul who, in spite of her increasingly frail health, continued to give to her friends, neighbors, and community. She actively participated in Neighborhood Watch and church programs. All who were touched by her life were granted the gift of her many talents, generosity, loving friendship, and support. Cremation has taken place.Memorial service will be held April 2, 2000 at 4 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 1432 Washtenaw, Ann Arbor. Mrs. MacMullan requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her name to the First Presbyterian Church Pastoral Ministers, or to the University of Michigan Health Services Geriatric Center, Social Work Department.

Age 86, passed away on Tuesday,February 29, 2000 at Detroit Riverview Hospital following an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alex Hawkins. Surviving are three sons, Alex (Ann) of Ann Arbor, Bobby (Joycelyn), Clarence (Janet) of Detroit. Services will be Saturday, March 4 at 11 a.m. at the Tennessee Baptist Church in Detroit.

Age 89, died Thursday, March 2, 2000 at Bortz Health Care of Ypsilanti. She was born on January 14, 1911 in Tanksley, Kentucky, the daughter of Belve and Maria (Bowling) Cole. Mrs. Crisp was an active charter member of the Willow Run Church of God. She had been employed in various positions at Beyer Hospital and with the Willow Run Bomber Plant. Survivors include four children, Betty (Paul) Gilliam of New Albany, IN, Herman (Nancy) Crisp, Richard Crisp, all of Ypsilanti and Grace (Albert) Ramsey of Jackson, MI; ten grandchildren including Victoria (Robert) Hylant, whom she raised; twelve great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters; a brother; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Robert G. Dezarn and Grover Crisp; and four children, Robert Dezarn, Lois Dezarn Moore, Grover Crisp and James Crisp. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 6, 2000 at JANOWIAK FUNERAL HOME, GEER-LOGAN CHAPEL with Pastor Ron W. Stewart of the Willow Run Church of God officiating. Age 73, passed away March 1, 2000 at Ingham Medical Hospital after a long illness. He was the former owner of Kings Bar & Grill in Dexter for 21 years. He then worked and retired from Thetford Corp. in Dexter. He was a member of the Ann Arbor Elks and Vice-President of Washtenaw Table Toppers. Mr. King was born June 14, 1926 in Jackson, Michigan, the son of Clyde and Doris (Campbell) King. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, June (Butler) King; son, Randy (Adele) King of Pinckney; his grandchildren, Michelle King of Ann Arbor and Stephanie King of Grand Rapids; sisters-in-law, Myrtle King of Arizona, Elaine Butler of Grand Ledge and Wanda Butler of Lansing; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul King. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, March 6 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, MI with the Rev. Geri Litchfield officiating.
