Mr. Bob C. Widger
Mr. Bob C. Widger, age 57 passed away Friday, April 8, 2005. He was born September 30, 1947 to Carl and Lila (Wooden) Widger in Gaylord. Bob was a lifetime resident of Gaylord, graduating from Gaylord High School in 1965. He was employed by Otsego County Road Commission for over 30 years, retiring in 2003. He was a member of the Otsego County Mounted Division and served as a board member for the Northern Michigan Livestock Association. Bob was also a longtime volunteer with the county Fair Board and 4-H program. He enjoyed making maple syrup, horses, fishing, playing pool, playing cards, and woodworking. He is survived by his wife, Darlene; children, Karen (Michael) Caldwell of Ann Arbor, Dave (Anne) of Kalamazoo, and Stephanie (Kevin) Park of Hersey; stepchildren, James Haywood, Jennifer Haywood, Bernadette Rybak, and Andrew Rybak; and brother, Richard (Donna) Widger. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at 12:00 noon from the Nelson Funeral Home, Pastor Thomas Mammoser, officiating. Burial will be at Fairview cemetery in Gaylord. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home in Gaylord will be held on Monday from 4-8 p.m. and Tuesday beginning at 10 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Otsego County EMS, through the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Franklin Wildfong
Franklin Jay Wildfong 33 of Gaylord died Wednesday, February 23, 2005 in Florida. He was born November 6, 1971 in Los Angeles, CA. and soon after the family moved to Frederic. He attended Gaylord High School during his sophomore and junior years but was a 1991 graduate of Grayling High School. He participated in football and wrestling and in 1991placed 9th in the state in wrestling. Franklin attended Life Tabernacle Apostolic Church in Gaylord. He enjoyed building motors and racing. He raced cars throughout the state. Franklin is survived by his children, Zachary J. and Tyler C. Wildfong of Grand Rapids; his parents, Harry and Darlene Wildfong of Frederic; brothers, David Wildfong of Grayling and Timothy Wildfong of Texas; sister, Loretta (Ryan) Rust of Kansas; grandparents, Lily Chaffin of Gaylord and Harry and Mildred Wildfong of California; 2 nephews, Hezekiah Allen and Riley Rust; his former wife, Desirae Carlisle of Grand Rapids. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at 11 AM from the Nelson Funeral Home. Friends may begin calling at the funeral home on Wednesday at 10 AM. Mr. Carl Morton Wingo
Carl Morton Wingo, age 68 of Elmira died Thursday, January 13, 2005 at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey. Mr. Wingo was born on Sept. 29, 1936 in Elmira, and had spent his entire life there. He had been employed with various companies through the years, and was a “jack-of-all-trades”. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing poker and horseshoes. He loved to tease his grandchildren, and especially loved to work on Ford trucks and cars. He was a very caring husband and father, and was adored by his family and friends. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 17, 2005 at 11:00 AM from the Nelson Funeral Home, Inc., Pastor David Beckner officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-6 p.m., and on Monday beginning at 10 AM. Interment will be held in Hallock cemetery. He is survived by his wife Joyce; children, Dottie (Russ) Greenman of East Jordan, Carla (Mike) Befort of Gaylord, Jerry Wingo of Gaylord, Theresa (Kevin) Huff of Johannesburg, Tracey Tomsett of Gaylord; and nine grandchildren. Also surviving are his brothers and sister, Charles (Bonnie), Robert, and Jane (Mike) Catalano, all of Gaylord; and three children from a previous marriage. He was preceded in death by two sisters and seven brothers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wingo family through the Nelson Funeral Home, Inc., P.O. Box 1548, Gaylord, MI. 49734.

Mr. Donald Wright
Donald M. Wright, 34 of Indian River died Monday, January 24, 2005. Don was born in Farmington Hills on September 27, 1970 and was raised in Gaylord. He was a 1988 graduate of Gaylord High School. On September 26, 1992 in Swartz Creek he married the former Stacy Henry. Don was employed by the State of Michigan with Department of Corrections. He was food service leader at the Hiawatha Correctional Facility in Kincheloe. Don treasured spending time with his kids and appreciated the opportunity to coach soccer and little league. He was an avid outdoorsman; particularly enjoying golf, hunting, boating, camping and snowmobiling. He also enjoyed bowling. Don is survived by his wife, Stacy; his children, Cole, Brady, Blake and Mackenzie; his father, Donald (Michelle) of Johannesburg; mother, Donna Wright (Bob Dean) of Warren, PA; brothers and sisters, Kris (Terry) Repp of Gaylord, Kim (Mike) Parrish of Frederic, Wendy (Joe) Cherwinski of Johannesburg, Michelle (Tony) Strange of Elmira; his grandparents, Robert and Valora Eisenman of Hessel and Melvin and Polly Wright of Farmington Hills; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Earl and Roberta Henry of Elmira; brothers and sisters-in-law, Cathie Wood of Swartz Creek, Lisa (Mike) Matuszak of Elmira, Mike Henry of Elmira, Matt (Tracy) Henry of Swartz Creek; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Thursday, January 27, 2005 at 3:30 PM from the First United Methodist Church, Pastor Lawrence Gill, officiating. Visitation on Wednesday will be held at the Nelson Funeral Home in Gaylord from 2-8 PM. Visitation on Thursday will be held first at the Nelson Funeral Home form 10 AM – 12 PM and later at the church from 2:30 PM until the time of services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Indian River Titans Football Program or to the Gaylord Youth Soccer program, Through the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1548, Gaylord MI 49734.

Mrs. Alice Wright
Alice H. Wright, 87 of Gaylord died Tuesday, March 29, 2005. Mrs. Wright was born in Detroit, MI. on August 22, 1917. She had lived in Union Lake for many years before moving to Gaylord about 7 years ago. Mrs. Wright, a woman to be admired, was a gentle soul with a positive outlook on life. With her love of reading she kept herself knowledgeable of the world around her. She enjoyed traveling, crocheting and gardening and loved dogs. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. Mrs. Wright was preceded in death by her husband Alvin in 1985. She is survived by her son, James R. (Janice) of Birmingham; her daughter, Sharon (Marcus) Wegmeyer of Gaylord; two grandchildren, Amie Wegmeyer of Minnesota and James Wegmeyer of Kalamazoo. Two brothers and one sister preceded her in death. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Sunday, April 3, 2005 at 2 PM from the Gaylord Evangelical Free Church, Pastor Joe Sereno, officiating. Burial will be held at Oxbow Lakeside cemetery in White Lake. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home will be held on Saturday from 4-8 PM and on Sunday at the church beginning at 1:00 PM. Miss Dorothy Alzingre
Dorothy May Alzingre, 88 of Gaylord died at her home on Thursday, April 28, 2005. Dorothy was born in Warren, PA on March 7, 1917 to Fred and Anna Alzingre, the youngest of 5. After graduating from Warren High School in Pennsylvania she moved to Detroit. She attended and graduated from Providence Hospital School of Nursing in 1941 and continued her education at Wayne State University receiving her Bachelor’s and Masters Degree in nursing education in 1960. She worked at Children’s Hospital of Michigan as Director of Nursing Education. While living in Detroit she became interested in the many programs offered by the American Youth Hostels. Her interests and activities included hiking, camping, skiing, cycling, sailing, gardening and many other outdoor activities. Dorothy moved to Gaylord in 1970. She was a member of St. Mary Cathedral parish, St. Mary Altar Rosary Society and remained active in several programs and religious classes, as long as her health permitted. She was employed at the Alpine Center for the care of children with special needs, retiring in 1981 as Director of Nursing Service. Dorothy is survived by her sister, Vera Kleinberg of Florida, and many special friends. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Tuesday, May 3, 2005 at 3 PM from St. Mary Cathedral, Rev. John McCracken officiating. Burial will follow at Resurrection cemetery. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home will be held on Monday from 4-8 PM and at the cathedral on Tuesday beginning at 2 PM. Mrs. Ruth Anderson
Mrs. Ruth Anderson, 80 of Wolverine died Friday, June 10, 2005. Mrs. Anderson was born in Tennessee on December 3, 1924. She moved to Northville in 1959 and worked at Eastlawn Nursing Home for several years and later worked for Star Manor in Northville for 34 years. She had been living in Wolverine the past 4 years. Mrs. Anderson was a faithful member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Vanderbilt. She was a very loving and selfless woman who always thought of others before herself. She will be fondly remembered for her love of “talking on the phone”. Ruth is survived by her children, Dorothy (Phil) VarnHagen of Vanderbilt, Carroll Payne of Tennessee; her grandchildren, Joni (Mike) Sackrider, Keri (Dennis) Sackrider, and Sara (Bryon) Sackrider all of Wolverine, Jason Payne of Michigan, and Jamie Fisher of Kentucky; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Shanne, Zachary and Hunter Sackrider; two sisters, Ruby Linneman and Mae, both of Arizona. She was preceded in death by one brother. A family berevement gathering will be held Wednesday evening, June 15, at 7 pm in Vanderbilt. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2005 at 2 PM from Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Vanderbilt, Elder Zach Gardner officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Vanderbilt, through the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1548, Gaylord MI 49734.

Mr. Lester E. Beckett
Lester E. Beckett, 78 of Petoskey and formerly of Gaylord died Monday, May 16, 2005 at Bortz Health Care in Petoskey. He was born in Brown City, MI on October 20, 1926 to Lloyd and Edna Beckett. On November 23, 1946, he married the former Leona Koronka of Gaylord who survives. Les had been a school bus driver for the Petoskey school system for 20+ years. He was also a bartender for many years and had worked at various restaurants in Petoskey and Gaylord including Hidden Valley Resort, the Rendezvous, Snow Valley, Schlangs and Boyne Mountain. He was a veteran of the United States Merchant Marine Corps. Les enjoyed all of the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Leona; nine children, Florian Beckett of Petoskey, Lavonne (Tom) VerBurg of Grand Rapids, Susan Whyte of Petoskey, Elizabeth Beckett of Traverse City, Errol (Kathleen) Beckett of Traverse City, Marie (Rick) Ramirez of Kalamazoo, Kim (Robert) Moats of Petoskey, Kathy Beckett of Petoskey, Shelly Beckett of Kalamazoo; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Arden Beckett of Florida, Rod Beckett of Waterford; one sister, Mary Ellen (Jim) Lorian of North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law Dennis Edward Whyte in 2004. Graveside services will be held on Friday, May 20th @ 3pm at St. Mary cemetery in Gaylord. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, through the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1548, Gaylord MI 49734.

Mrs. Ruby Illa Boyce
Ruby Illa Boyce, 89 of Gaylord and formerly of Fenton, died May 12, 2005. She was a member of Tyrone Presbyterian Church in Fenton. Illa is survived by her children, Carolyn L. (Richard) Krivak, Marilyn C. (Terry) Huber,William A. (Jennifer) Boyce; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and sister, Annie Schiesl. She was preceded in death by her husband Emerson W. Boyce and two sisters. Memorial services will be held Sunday, June 12th at Tyrone Presbyterian Church, 10235 White Lake Rd., Fenton, at 12:00 noon with a luncheon to follow. Memorials to Tyrone Presbyterian Church Building Fund C/O Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1548, Gaylord, MI. 49734.

Mrs. Isabell L. “Ise” Brock
Isabell L. “Ise” Brock, age 71, lifetime resident of Gaylord died Monday July 25, 2005. Mrs. Brock was born in Elmira on Aug 1, 1933, the daughter of Latimer and Martha (Wingo) Gates. She worked for Central Printing in Gaylord for 32 years. She enjoyed the outdoors, flowers and camping and loved teddy bears. She had a talent for crocheting and spent hours making afghans. She was preceded in death by her husband Alfred in 1968, her daughter Vicky, and her son Rocky. Her brother Douglas Gates and her sisters, Dorothy Lindsey and Pearl Strang, also preceded her in death. She is survived by her children, Jeff and his girlfriend Dee of Wolverine, Randy and his wife Tonya of Gaylord, Wendy Lauret of Gaylord; 13 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Verna Brock of Traverse City and Eleanor (Warren) Patterson of Florida. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Thursday, July 29, 2005 at 3 PM from the Nelson Funeral Home, Rev. John Naile officiating. Burial will follow at Hayes Township cemetery in Gaylord. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home will be held on Thursday from 1 PM until the time of services. Mr. Rocky Brock
Rocky L. “Roy” Brock, 45 of Gaylord died Thursday, July 21, 2005 at his home. He was born in Gaylord on July 12, 1960 the son of Alfred and Isabell “Ise” (Gates) Brock. He enjoyed playing the guitar and hunting and loved the outdoors. He had previously worked for Lakes State Tree Service for a number of years, and was currently employed by Trees Inc. He was preceded in death by his father Alfred in 1968, and his sister Vicky. His mother, Ise Brock died on July 25, 2005. He is survived by his daughter, Lyndsey Brock of Gaylord; his brothers, Jeff and his girlfriend Dee of Wolverine, Randy and his wife Tonya of Gaylord; his sister, Wendy Lauret of Gaylord; several nieces and nephews. MEMORIAL SERVICES will be held on Thursday, July 29, 2005 at 3 PM from the Nelson Funeral Home, Rev. John Naile officiating. Burial will take place at Hayes Township cemetery in Gaylord. Friends may call at the Nelson Funeral Home will on Thursday from 1 PM until the time of services. Mrs. Paula Burke
Paula Jean Burke, 75, of Gaylord died Thursday, June 16, 2005 at home after a brief illness. She was born October 7, 1929 in Detroit, the daughter of Nicholas and Bertha Stuhlsatz. Paula married Edward M. Burke Jr. in Montgomery, AL. They had moved to Otsego County from Redford Twp. Paula worked in the family tile business as secretary and bookkeeper. Edward preceded her in death in 1996. She was a member of St. Mary Cathedral and the Daughters of Isabella. She was a former volunteer with R.S.V.P. of Otsego County and Otsego Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing and quilting, working crossword puzzles and playing Euchre at Alten Zimmer. She is survived by her children, Sean (Nicholas Bommarito) Burke, E. Michael (Nancy) Burke III, Maureen (Dennis) Borowiak, and Paul (Kary) Burke all of Gaylord, and Patricia (Donald) Kanners of Commerce Twp.; 18 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and sisters Grace Gariepy and Helen Ann Vincent. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Monday, June 20, 2005 from St. Mary Cathedral with Rev. John McCracken officiating. Burial will be at Resurrection cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-7 pm at the Nelson Funeral Home and from 10-11am Monday at St. Mary Cathedral. St. Mary Daughters of Isabella will offer a rosary on Sunday at 3:00pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan, through the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Mr. Edward Burzynski Mr. Edward A. Burzynski, age 81 of Gaylord died Friday, July 29, 2005. Ed was born July 26, 1924 in Gaylord the son of Albert and Katherine (Kwapis) Burzynski. He attended Big Lake School and received his high school diploma from Gaylord High School. On April 28, 1945 he married the former Frances Nowak. The couple raised a family and farmed for many years. In addition, Mr. Burzynski had worked as an electrician, a builder, and sexton for St. Mary cemeterys. He had also worked for Standard Products. He was a member of St. Mary Cathedral parish, St. Mary Altar Rosary Society and St. Mary Knights of Columbus. He was a longtime leader of 4-H in Otsego County. Mr. Burzynski was preceded in death by his wife Frances on March 17, 2005. He is survived by his children, Loretta (David) Kasprzyk of Twin Lakes, Lenard (Shasta) Burzynski of Sault Ste. Marie, Rosalie (Gregory) Baran of Haslett, Thomas (Deni) Burzynski of Gaylord, Dorothy (Charles) King of Houston, Texas, Jean (Leon) Miller of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Jennifer Burzynski of Cincinnati, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren (with #10 on the way); 2 brothers, Joseph Burzynski of Gaylord and Chester Burzynski of Jackson; 2 sisters, Theresa Smolak of Jackson and Betty Damer of Bellaire. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Leo and Benny, and 2 grandchildren. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Tuesday, August 2, 2005 at 11 AM from St. Mary Cathedral, Rev. John McCracken, officiating. Burial will take place at Resurrection cemetery in Gaylord. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home will be held on Sunday from 6-8 PM, Monday from 1-8 PM and at the cathedral on Tuesday beginning at 10 AM. St. Mary Altar Rosary Society will offer a rosary Sunday evening at 6:30 PM. St. Mary Knights of Columbus will offer a rosary Monday evening at 7 PM.
