Hayes, Mary Teresa, Ann Arbor, MI
Age 72, died Monday, October 11, 1999 at University Hospitals. She was born August 11, 1927 in Taunton, MA, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Quinlan and was married to Edward J. Hayes in Cambridge, MA. The Hayes have lived in Ann Arbor for the past 25 years where Mrs. Hayes was involved in many community activities including the Ann Arbor Women's Club, Meals on Wheels, the Thrift Shop and she also volunteered at the area hospitals. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Edward; her children, MaryEllen (Kenneth) Terrell of Lubbock, TX, Edward Hayes of Northville, MI; her two grandchildren, Matthew and Jessica Hayes; her sister and brother-in-law, Teresa Lou Maresca and other loving relatives. Preceding her in death were her parents and one brother. Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to St. Helen's Sister Pat's Camp (Cancer Camp for Children) , 1600 Rathway Ave., Westfield, NJ 07090. Envelopes available at Nie Funeral Home, 2400 Carpenter Rd., where the family will receive friends Wednesday, October 13 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with Scripture Service at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m., Thursday, October 14, 1999 at St. Thomas Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Gerald Vincke, Celebrant. Rite of Committal will follow at Forest Hill cemetery.
Passow, Marvin L., Saline, MI
Age 65, died Sunday, October 10, 1999 at the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. He was born on December 16, 1933 in Ann Arbor, MI, son of Norman Earl and Ruby Elizabeth (Atkinson) Passow. He had been a Saline resident since 1961. On October 10, 1956 in Dexter, MI, he married C. Jean Webster and she survives. He had been a plasterer all of his life and had worked for The Ann Arbor Ceiling and Partition Co. for over twenty-five years. He was a CPL in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict serving as a tanker in the 25th Division, 27th Tank Co. He was also a member of the Saline American Legion Post #322, Ann Arbor Moose Lodge #1253, Tecumseh V.F.W. Post #4187 and the Trowel Trades Union for over 43 years. In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Karen (Tim) Court and Teri King and one grandson, Jared Isbell, all of Saline; two sisters and one brother, Doris (Herb) Rorabacher, Donald (Phyllis) Passow and Wanda Pullen; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Dawn Marie Passow on September 30, 1984; a sister and three brothers, Norma Morgan, Leland, Dale and Edwin Passow. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 14, 1999 at 2 p.m. from the ROBISON-BAHNMILLER FUNERAL HOME, Saline with Rev. James Tuttle from the First United Methodist Church of Saline officiating. Cremation will follow the services. Burial of the cremains will take place in the Oakwood cemetery, Saline. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Saline American Legion Post #322. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home where friends may call Thursday from 11 a.m. until time of service at 2 p.m.

Winter, Charlotte Crossley, Ann Arbor, MI
Age 80, passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 1999 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. Charlotte was born March 16, 1919 in Toledo, OH. She was a graduate of Oberlin College and had worked at the University of Michigan until she retired. She enjoyed reading and travel, and will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kenton Winter Jr.; parents, Lawrence and Doris (Schenk) Crossley; and two brothers, Richard and Robert Crossley. She is survived by her loving son, Kenton Winter III of Ann Arbor and nephew, Chris (Mary) and Tim Crossley of Minnetonka, MN; and by her many dear friends who will always miss her. Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, October 15, 1999 at the Muehlig Chapel with visitation Friday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Age 69, died in his home in Kansas, September 20, 1999. Albert was born October 3, 1929 in Bad Ax, MI. He was a bus driver, a printer and a gunsmith until his retirement. He was also a member of the American Legion, the VFW and the Moose Lodge. Survivors include a daughter, Michelle Strong and a son, Michael Curnew. Services will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday, October 19 at Arborcrest Memorial Park.

Schlaff, Charles E., Dexter, MI
Age 54, died Wednesday, October 13, 1999. He was born March 4, 1945 in Ann Arbor, son of Ralph and Evelyn (Heselschwerdt) Schlaff. Charles was united in marriage to Beverly Potter, October 7, 1967. He had worked as a mason for 35 years. Charles was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, and St. Patrick's Church in Whitmore Lake. He is survived by his wife Beverly; children, Laura (Pete) Roberts, Coraly (Jim) Ferri, Randy (Laura) Schlaff, and Bruce (Heidi) Schlaff; ten grandchildren; brothers, Michael, John and James Schlaff;sister, Mary Omer; several nieces and nephews. The Funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, October 16, 1999 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Whitmore Lake with the Fr. Terry Dumas officiating. Interment will be in St. Patrick's cemetery. The family will receive friends at HOSMER-MUEHLIG FUNERAL CHAPEL on Friday from 12-9 p.m. and Saturday from 8-10 a.m. A scripture service will be held Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to St. Patrick's Church.
Tice, Francis A., Ann Arbor MI
Age 90, died Thursday, October 14, 1999 at is his home. He was born on July 25, 1909 in Ann Arbor, the son of Frank A. and Elizabeth (Lavey) Tice. Frank attended St. Thomas Grade School until the eight grade. He was married to Ellen Scott who preceded him in death in 1989. In 1939 Mr. Tice opened Tice's Men's Shop in Ann Arbor. He closed the shop in 1943 in order to serve his country in the 89th Division of the U.S. Army in France and Germany. Upon returning home in 1945 he reopened the store. In 1959 he took in a friend, Jim Calhoun, as a partner and continued working until his retirement in 1980. Mr. Tice was a member of St. Thomas Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was one of the original planners for the Ann Arbor Art Fair. Frank was a gentle and loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and a man of deep faith. He was a grand storyteller and had many friends in the Ann Arbor community. He is survived by sons, William (Mary Ann) and Michael; grandchildren, Kathleen (John) Frey, Dennis (Kara) , Matthew (Kim) , Susan, Christopher and Leah; and 11 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by sister, Leonella Blum. He will be missed by friends, family and especially by his very good friends, Robert Stenberg of Port St. Lucie, FL, Albert Wistert of Grants Pass, OR, Franz Leider of Germany, and Doc Waters of Saginaw, MI. Services will be Saturday, October 16 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Thomas Catholic Church with Fr Jerry Vincke presiding. Friends may call at MUEHLIG CHAPEL on Friday from 7-9 P.M. A Rosary will be said at 8:00 P.M. Interment at St. Thomas cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Thomas Grade School or to a charity of your choice.

Age 86, died October 13, 1999 in Tawas City. Bertha was born on October 23, 1912 in Negaunee, MI, the daughter of Frank and Emily (Kangas) Norcola. Bertha married Russell Valentine on December 8, 1929 and he predeceased her on August 14, 1990. Bertha was a homemaker most of her life. She was an active member of St Paul Lutheran Church for many years and belonged to Anna Altar Guild. She is survived by her children, Beverly (Duane) Bater of Oscoda, Linda Valentine of Detroit, Robert Valentine of Kalkaska and Jerry Valentine of Ypsilanti; brother, Matthew Fagerman of Florida; 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. Bertha was preceded in death by one son, James R. Valentine; one brother; two sisters; and one grandchild. Visitation will be Saturday 6-9 p.m. and Sunday 12-3 and 6-9 p.m. at BELL-BOREK FUNERAL HOME, 7425 M-36, Hamburg. Funeral 11 a.m. Monday with Pastor Carl Welser officiating.
