Elliott, Winnifred Isabelle, Ypsilanti, MI
Age 89, passed away Tuesday, February 23, 1999. She was born January 14, 1910 in Two Harbors, MN, the daughter of Robert Bruce and Ethel Winnifred (Jones) Elliott. Winn was a 1933 graduate of Carleton College in Northfield, MN and was active in the community and in the churches she attended. Winn was a volunteer at the Two Harbors Public Library and a member of the Presbyterian Church of Two Harbors until she relocated to Ypsilanti in 1970 to live with her brother, D. Bruce Elliott and his wife, Erna. In Ypsilanti, Winn was a longstanding member of the First Presbyterian Church and its choir. Winn also volunteered in the Ypsilanti Thrift Shop and Beyer Hospital Auxiliary for many years. For the past few years until her death, Winn was a resident of the Whitehall Convalescent Home in Pittsfield Township. She is survived by: her brother, D. Bruce Elliott Sr.; her nephew, D. Bruce (Paula) Elliott Jr.; her grand nephew, David M. (Jill) Elliott, all of Ypsilanti; grand nephew, Robert B. (Leigh) Elliott of Tecumseh, MI and grand niece, Susan L. Elliott of Reno, NV. Four great grand nieces and nephews also survive. A memorial service will take place 2 p.m. Sunday, February 28, 1999 at the First Presbyterian Church of Ypsilanti with Pastor Eldon Berry officiating. Interment will be at Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton Township, MI. Donations in her honor can be sent to the First Presbyterian Church of Ypsilanti. Dunlap, Larry S., Ypsilanti Township, MI
Age 53, passed away suddenly Tuesday, February 23, 1999 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. He was born June 25, 1945 in Portageville, MO, the son of Guy and Christine (Muller) Dunlap. On August 22, 1965, he married Elaine Mild in Ann Arbor and she survives. Larry worked for Ford Motor Company, Rawsonville Plant for 35 years where he was a member of Local 898. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and he loved the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. In addition to his wife, survivors include: two daughters, Teresa (Danny) Cornelison of Ypsilanti and Genia (Paul) Smith of Stockbridge; four grandchildren, Kyle, Kray, Dustin and Zackary; his mother, Christine Dunlap-Lake of Ozarks, MO; four sisters, Margaret (Jack) Studie of MO, Joan Nussbaum of MO, Catherine Rinkel of IL and Wilma (Ed) Henson of MO; one brother, Roy (Linda) Dunlap of Ypsilanti; and several other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, James. The funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, February 27, 1999 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel with Pastor Gordon Moore of Milan Baptist Church officiating. Cremation will follow. She was born June 15, 1916 in Detroit, Michigan, daughter of the late John and Etta Pearl (Kent) Montgomery. Mrs. Bremer is survived by two daughters, Beverly Ann (Thomas) Morrison of San Diego, CA and Barbara Jean (Gordon) Harris of Beverly Hills, FL; one brother, Jack Montgomery of Gregory, MI; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Brown, Earl Charles, Ann Arbor, MI
Age 80, died Wednesday, February 24, 1999 at Arbor Hospice Residence. He was born April 25, 1918 in Cleveland, OH the son of Francis and Margarite (Bisgrove) Brown and grew up in the Cleveland area graduating from Western Reserve University. During WWII he served in the Pacific Theater as a US Marine Corps Officer, finally retiring as Lt. Col. with the USMC Reserves. He had retired from SCM-Glidden Paint of Cleveland, OH and had been a resident of the Ann Arbor area for over thirty years. Survivors include: his two daughters, Barbara B. (Robert L.) Davis of Medford, NJ and Martha (James) Chapman of Pinckney, MI; one grandson, James Earl Chapman; one stepson, George Farley and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth (Farley) Brown in 1988, one brother, Kenneth H. Brown and one sister, Dorothy Dorenkott. Memorial contributions may be made in his honor to Arbor Hospice Residence, 2366 Oak Valley Dr., Ann Arbor, MI 48103. Age 80, Major Donald Ector Rivette went home to be with the Lord Thursday, February 25, 1999. Major Rivette had lived a fruitful life. Originally from Ann Arbor, MI, he graduated from the University of Michigan and received a commission in the U.S. Army Infantry in 1941. He served during WWII with the 1st Infantry Division The Big Red One in every campaign and battle. He was the Executive Officer and company Commander of the Antitank Company of the 26th Infantry Regiment. He was wounded twice and received the silver star and two bronze stars with V device for bravery in battle. He served 22 years in the Army and retired in 1962 in Athens, GA. He worked in Financial Management, mainly with John Hancock Company since leaving the Army and moved to Alpharetta, GA in 1989. His wife Helen died in 1987 and he married Thelma in 1989. He is survived by his wife, Thelma; five children, Dianne, Cynthia, Patrick, David, and Richard; three step-children, Thomas, Christopher, and Laurie; two sisters, Maxine Kruse and Shirley Aldrich; and seventeen grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 28, 1999 at 2 p.m. at the Alpharetta Presbyterian Church, Rev. Walter Jones officiating. Interment will be at North Atlanta Memorial Park. Alice M. Warshaw, 73, died suddenly at her winter home in Aspen, CO, on Wednesday, February 24. A resident of Ann Arbor, she was an educational consultant specializing in working with children with learning disabilities as well as with their parents. Alice was a founder and past president of the Learning Disabilities Assoc. of Washtenaw County. She was the past president of the Ann Arbor chapter of Hadassah and played an active role in many community organizations. She was a volunteer at the Pitkin County Library and the Aspen Music Festival. Alice is survived by her husband, Martin; children, Gregg and Martha Warshaw, Mark and Jaquelynn Warshaw, Lynn Warshaw, Laurie and Josh Harris; four grandchildren, Jessica and Ann Warshaw, Molly and Sara Harris; sister, Suki (Chuck) Weisenthal; and a brother-in-law, Robert Warshaw. Elderfield, Mary Elizabeth Betts, Ann Arbor, MI
Age 89, died peacefully at Glacier Hills on Friday, February 26, 1999. Known as Polly to her friends and family, she was an avid gardener and an active supporter of Planned Parenthood. She volunteered for many years at a local Well Baby Clinic. A native of Philadelphia, Mrs. Elderfield moved to Ann Arbor in 1952 with her husband, the late Robert C. Elderfield, professor of chemistry at the University of Michigan. She previously lived for many years in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY., where she was president of the school board, the League of Women Voters, and the Parent-Teacher Association. She was also instrumental in establishing a youth center for Hastings. She is survived by her brother, John M.C. Betts of North Branford, CT., and her sister-in-law, Esther Green of Florence, AL; her daughters, Nancy Shanahan of Egg Harbor, WI and Margaret (Harry) Ritchie of Santa Fe, NM; and her grandchildren, Robert Hall of Chicago, IL, Janet (Herbert) Newham of Bloomingdale, IL, Margery Hall of Justice, IL, Polly (Derek) Burley of Baltimore, MD, David (Terri) Ritchie of Carbondale, CO, and Stuart Ritchie of Aurora, CO. She also leaves three great-grandchildren, Rachelle Newham of Bloomingdale, IL and Elizabeth and Zachary Ritchie of Carbondale, CO. Private services will be held in Philadelphia at a later date.

Age 87, died February 25, 1999 at the Middlesboro Appalachian Reginal Hospital in Middlesboro, KY. She was born on July 20, 1911 in Rose Hill, VA the daughter of Thomas and Mary (Haley) Hobbs. Surviving are: four brothers, Alfred Hobbs and J.P. Hobbs both of Rose Hill, VA., Clifford Hobbs of Richmond, VA., and Bill Hobbs of Rockwood, MI; one sister, Axie Campbell of Hamilton, OH. Also several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur H. Avery on February 6, 1972.
