Mr. Carl E. Fronczak
Carl E. Fronczak, 80 of Gaylord died Thursday, November 13, 2003. Mr. Fronczak was born November 29, 1922 in Detroit. He served in the United States Army Air Corps as a First Lieutenant and pilot in the Philippines during World War II. Mr. Fronczak was employed with the Ford Motor Company for 27 years, retiring in 1980. He was a member of St. Mary Cathedral parish, the VFW and the Gaylord council of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Fronczak was an engineer and a craftsman who also enjoyed fishing, boating and golfing. He especially loved spending time with his granddaughter. He was also a talented musician who played the string base, in the big band era. Mr. Fronczak is survived by his wife, Helen; 2 sons, Gregory Fronczak of California and Jerome “Jerry” (Patricia) Fronczak of Rochester, MI; granddaughter, Stephanie; brother, Joe (Charlene) of Gaylord; sister-in-law, Jean Zabielski. His brothers, Norbert, Alphonse, and Ted preceded him in death. FUNERAL SERVICES were held on Monday, November 17, 2003 from St. Mary Cathedral, Rev. John McCracken, officiating. Burial was at Resurrection cemetery in Gaylord. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home was held on Sunday November 16th and at the church on Monday, November 17th. The Otsego County Veteran’s Honor Guard conducted a service on Sunday evening, followed by a Knights of Columbus and Daughters of Isabella rosary. Mr. Eugene Richard Gere
Eugene Richard Gere, 72 of Gaylord died Wednesday, September 24, 2003. Mr. Gere was born in Pontiac on February 12, 1931. He is survived by his wife, Nancy (Pruitt); daughters, Tammy (Bill) Brunk and Laura (John) Fults; son, Brian Gere; 8 grandchildren; sisters, Joann Hage, Betty (Richard) Sykes; sister-in-law, Madeline Gere. He was preceded in death by his parents James & Ruth Gere and his brother Theodore. Arrangements were handled by Nelson Funeral Home.
Mr. Clare P. Glasser
Clare P. Glasser, 85 of Gaylord died Thursday, October 23, 2003 at Otsego Memorial Hospital. Mr. Glasser was born June 17, 1918 in Gaylord and was raised in Gaylord. He attended Cleary College in Ypsilanti and later served in the United States Air Force during World War II. After the service he returned to Gaylord and established Glasser Real Estate which he ran until his retirement in 1983. Mr. Glasser was also an appraiser. He was a dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church, a member of the Masonic Lodge and the oldest member of the Gaylord Country Club. He taught real estate classes and served on the Board of Realtors for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and hosting friends at his deer camp near Vanderbilt. He was also a great lover of dogs. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Monday, October 27, 2003 at 1:00 PM from the First United Methodist Church, Rev. John Naile officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview cemetery in Gaylord. Mr. Glasser is survived by his wife, Marjorie; his children, William C. (Meredith) Glasser of Otsego, Janice (Michael) Glasser – Burdick of Battle Creek, Roger A. (Karen) Glasser of Portage; 8 grandchildren; 1 great- grandchild; 1 brother, Norman A. (Betty) Glasser formerly of Gaylord. He was preceded in death by his daughter Sharon Glasser – Myers and his brother Robert K. Glasser. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home will be held on Sunday from 5-7 PM and at the church on Monday beginning at 12:00 PM. Mrs. Dorothy I. Hansen
Dorothy I. Hansen, 89 of Florence, Kentucky died Wednesday, November 12, 2003. Mrs. Hansen was born in Alpena on March 21, 1914. She moved to Gaylord in 1934 and after 47 years moved to Bay City. In 1999 she moved to Florence, Kentucky to be near her son. On April 29, 1932 in Alpena she married
Ed Hansen. He preceded her in death in 1977. Mrs. Hansen served 2 terms as president of the Gaylord VFW Auxiliary and was a past member of the Eastern Star. Her hobbies included bowling and golf. Along with her husband, Mrs. Hansen was also preceded in death by her daughter, Shirley Sisson; 2 sisters and 4 brothers. She is survived by her son, Ed (Peggy) Hansen of Florence, KY; her sister, Joyce Valdespee of Albuquerque, New Mexico; son-in-law, Tom Sisson of Gaylord; 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Sunday, November 16, 2003 at 6:00 PM from the Nelson Funeral Home, Rev. John Naile, officiating. Burial will take place at Fairview cemetery in Gaylord. Mr. Leslie Hill
Mr. Leslie Hill, 53 of Vanderbilt died Saturday, November 8, 2003. He was born in Royal Oak on August 10, 1950. He moved to the Otsego Lake area and spent most of his time in the Otsego County area. Mr. Hill worked as a meat cutter for Circle M Ranch and later worked for Heartland Distributors. He was an avid hunter, a Vanderbilt Lions Club member, and he loved his family dearly. He is survived by his wife, Doreen children, Brent & Kylie, Stacy & Joe, Jeremy & Sarah, Stephanie & Rob; one granddaughter, Isabella and a new grandbaby on the way. Doris Mae Johnson
Doris Mae Johnson, 82 of Gaylord died Friday, October 10, 2003 at Tendercare in Gaylord. Mrs. Johnson was born in East Jordan on May 17, 1921 and moved to Gaylord in 1986. She had worked for United Tech in Boyne City. Mrs. Johnson is survived by her children, Carol Carney of Gaylord & Florida, William Johnson of East Jordan, Wayne Johnson of Gaylord; many grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters. Mr. Daniel J. Keffer, Sr.
Daniel J. Keffer, Sr., 80 of Gaylord died Monday, November 10, 2003. Mr. Keffer was born in Hundred, West Virginia on April 30, 1923. He was raised in West Virginia and graduated from Jane Lew High School in West Virginia. He was an all-state basketball player in high school. He later received a scholarship and attended the University of West Virginia for one year. In 1945 he met the former Betty Lou Williams and the couple was married
in Bowling Green, Ohio in 1953. They celebrated 50 years of marriage on June 6, 2003. From 1956 until 1981 the family lived in Grosse Ile. In 1981 after Mr. Keffer retired from Mobil Oil they moved to Gaylord. Mr. Keffer had been head coach of St. Pat’s football team in Wyandotte. In 1982 he purchased property in Gaylord, which he later developed into what is now known as Green Trees Golf Course. Golf was his life and along with designing his own home he designed the last nine holes of his golf course. He was also a Civil War buff and enjoyed history and the nature channel on TV. Mr. Keffer is survived by his wife, Betty Lou; his children, Thomas (Kimberly) Chesney of Tecumseh and Connie (Rick) Ballard of Canton; 8 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Patty (Art) Godar of Florida and Gertrude Hellrung of Wyandotte. He was preceded in death by his sons Richard in 1979 and Daniel Jay in 2001. He was also preceded in death by 4 sisters and 2 brothers. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2003 at 11:00 AM from the Nelson Funeral Home, Rev. James Mathis, officiating. Regina Kudas
Regina Kudas, age 88 of Gaylord died Tuesday, October 21st at Benson House. Mrs. Kudas was born on December 28, 1914 in Yugoslavia, and came to this country around 1950. She became a United States citizen in 1951, a fact that she was very proud of. She lived in Melvindale for a number or years before moving to Gaylord in 1988. She was a very active member of St. Mary’s Cathedral, and belonged to both the Altar Rosary Society as well as the Daughters of Isabella. She enjoyed gardening, and was a role model for her family for her strength and her faith. She is survived by her daughter Erika Kaiser of Gaylord, and her son Roman (Deanne) Wolf of Roswell, N.M. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and a half sister Caroline Nagy. She was preceded in death by her husbands; Roman Wolf, Frederick Taylor, Stanley Kudas (to whom she was married
to for 33 years), and her son-in-law Fred Kaiser. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 25th at 1:00 PM from St. Mary Cathedral in Gaylord, Rev. John McCracken officiating. Visitation for Mrs. Kudas at the Nelson Funeral Home, Inc. will be held on Friday from 1-8 p.m., and at the church on Saturday beginning at noon. Mr. Archibald “Archie” McLeay
Archibald “Archie” McLeay, 78 of Vanderbilt died Sunday, September 28, 2003 at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey. Mr. McLeay was born February 12, 1925 in Scotland, was raised in Detroit and moved to Vanderbilt in the early 1980’s. He served in the United States Army in Guam during World War II and later went to work for General Motors retiring in 1977. He was a past member of the Gaylord Elks and an avid golfer, bowler and hunter. Mr. McLeay is survived by his wife, Pat; children, Kevin (Deborah) of Walled Lake, Mark of Livonia, Todd (Michelle) of Livonia; brother, Donald (Jean) McLeay of Wolverine. He was preceded in death by his sister Doreen Tierney. MEMORIAL SERVICES will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2003 at 2 PM from the Nelson Funeral Home. Mrs. Evelyn M. Meyer
Evelyn M. Meyer,66 of Gaylord died Thursday, October 30, 2003 at Tendercare. Mrs. Meyer was born in Petoskey on August 24, 1937. She was raised in Harbor Springs and graduated from Harbor Springs High School. She and her husband lived in Brighton for a short time before moving to Gaylord. She enjoyed bowling and bingo and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of St Mary Altar Rosary Society and the Northland Sportsman’s Club Auxiliary. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Monday, November 3, 2003 at 11 AM from St. Mary Cathedral, Rev. John McCracken officiating. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home will be held on Sunday from 2-8 PM. St. Mary Altar Rosary Society will offer a rosary Sunday afternoon at 3:30 PM. Mrs. Meyer will be buried at Holy Childhood cemetery in Harbor Springs. Mrs. Florence Orcutt
Mrs. Florence May Orcutt, 76 of Gould City and formerly of Johannesburg, died Thursday, November 6, 2003 in Gaylord. Mrs. Orcutt was born in Muskegon on February 13, 1927 and had lived most of her life in Johannesburg. While living in Johannesburg she met Milford Orcutt and the couple was married
on July 31, 1950 . The Orcutt’s moved to Gould City from Johannesburg in 1994. Milford Orcutt preceded his wife in death on May 28, 2003. Mrs. Orcutt was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Gaylord. She enjoyed gardening, knitting and crocheting and loved wildlife and walks with her dog Brandy. She is survived by her brother, Merle (Shirley) Summerland of Johannesburg; many nieces and nephews, including Punkie Black; and her close friend Warren Petoskey; many great & great-great nieces and nephews. Along with her husband, Mrs. Orcutt was also preceded in death by her son Milford Jr., 2 brothers and 1 sister. Mr. Jessie F. Perry
Jessie F. Perry, 60, of Gaylord died Thursday, November 27, 2003. Mr. Perry was born in Emerson, KY on October 11, 1943. At the age of 15 he moved to Michigan (Southgate) and was employed with Firestone for 17 years, retiring in 1982. He was also a landscaper during the summer months. He had been living in Gaylord since 1989. Mr. Perry’s hobbies included hunting. He is survived by two children, Roger (Babette) Perry of Elmira and Melinda Huff of Johannesburg; two grandchildren, Alicia and Christopher Huff; brothers, Kenny (Ilene), Floyd, and Ronnie (Ann) Perry all of Kentucky; sister, Lee (Tony) Estes of Belleville; 7 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Burl & Cova Perry; his brothers, Gary, Allen, and Junior Perry; and his sister Odlene Conley. Mr. Ivan Renkiewicz
Ivan M. Renkiewicz, 45 of Gaylord died Sunday, November 30, 2003. Ivan was born in Gaylord on March 7, 1958. He was a 1977 graduate of Gaylord High School and was currently working for H & H Tube in Vanderbilt, as well as running the family farm with his brothers. On September 11, 1993 he married
the former Kathy Bisson. He enjoyed hunting and was a member of two bowling teams, including Renkiewicz Farms, a team that also included two of his brothers. He loved to bowl and was working toward his 3rd 300 game. Ivan also enjoyed watching NASCAR, especially his favorite driver Jeff Gordon. He was a member of St. Mary Cathedral parish and a 3rd and 4th degree member of St. Mary Knights of Columbus. Ivan is survived by his wife, Kathy; daughter, Alice; sons, Dylan and Devyn; his parents, Anthony and Regina of Gaylord; his sister, Harriet Smith; brothers, Albert, Larry (Carol), Arnie (Janet), Neal (Myken), Chris (Gail), Philip, Bob, and Brian (Kimberly). Mrs. Marie Sandberg
Marie Sandberg, 75 of Gaylord died Wednesday, November 26, 2003 at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey. Mrs. Sandberg was born in Detroit on February 19, 1928 and was raised in the Detroit area. She graduated from Dearborn High School and went on to attend Michigan State University where she met her husband, Donald, on October 5, 1945. In 1949 Mrs. Sandberg graduated with a degree in Elementary Education and on August 20, 1949 she married
Donald Sandberg, at Martha Mary Chapel in Greenfield Village. The couple lived in Lansing, Battle Creek and Redford Township before moving to Gaylord in 1963. Mrs. Sandberg taught 1 year at Gaylord St. Mary’s and 21 years at the Gaylord Community Schools (South Maple), retiring in June of 1985. She was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church and the Gaylord Country Club. She loved to play golf, cross-country ski and bowl on the Sunday night couples bowling league. She enjoyed reading, sewing and various crafts. Throughout her life, she was a great influence to many people. Mrs. Sandberg is survived by her husband, Donald; her children, Don (Karen) of St. Ignace, David (Carol) of Ohio, Mary (John) Reed of Gaylord; her mother, Mary Nowlin of Arizona; 7 grandchildren, Amy (Gene) Flanagan of Illinois, Renee Sandberg of North Carolina, Kristin Sandberg of Farmington, Kelly Sandberg of Ohio, Jessie Sandberg of Gaylord, Erin Reed of Gaylord, Brandon Reed of Mattawan.
