SCHOAPS, F. EDWARD, 80, of Clinton Twp., died Sunday, Aug. 15 in Clemmons, NC. Ed was a retired employee of the Detroit Free Press Circulation Department, where he developed and taught a special training course for new employees. Ed was born Sept. 17, 1918 in Detroit, the son of the late Florian and Mary Schoaps. He met his beloved late wife, Rita, while serving in the U.S. Army in Italy during World War II. They were married in 1947 and lived in Italy as Ed earned a degree in International Law from the University of Rome. In 1952, Ed moved back to the U.S. with his wife and son, and settled in the Detroit area. Survivors include a son Ed (Dino) Schoaps of Salem, OR; a daughter Mercedes Cosgrove and grandson Elliot, both of Clemmons, NC; sisters Helen Heinz of South Lyon and Barbara Jackson of Howell, and brother Bob of Huntsville, TX. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 28 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 40501 Hayes Rd., Sterling Heights.

A great music lover, he played the piano & banjo, and his large music collection ranging from opera to jazz has been donated to the Delray Beach Library. Father of Barbara A. Weston, the late Mary Wilson and the late Louis A. Weston, Jr. Stepfather of Dr. Arthur Peterson.
