MIKOLOWSKI, ANN., Artist Ann Mikolowski, age 59, passed away in her home on Friday, August 6, 1999 after a long and inspiring battle with breast cancer. She was born in Detroit and associated with the Cass Corridor art movement there. The qualities of light, clarity, and beauty that infused her art also filled her life and touched everyone who knew her. She had solo art shows in New York, San Francisco, Detroit, and Ann Arbor. Her paintings are in the permanent collection of the Detroit Institute of the arts and many private and corporate collections. Her work is currently represented by the Revolution Gallery in Ferndale, Michigan and Alice Simsar Fine Arts in Ann Arbor. Along with her husband and partner she founded the Alternative Press in 1969 to publish contemporary art and poetry. There will be a thirty year anniversary celebration of the press at the U of M's Harlan Hatcher Graduate Library in September and October. She is survived by her husband Ken, son Michael, daughter Molly, grandson Anton, and mother Frances Stroman. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, August 10, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. at MUEHLIG FUNERAL CHAPEL . Interment will be in Forest Hill cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Monday from 3-9 p.m. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to the Community Supported Anthroposophical Medicine (CSAM) Hospital Fund at 2385 S. Huron Parkway, Ann Arbor, MI 48104.

SHAFFER, FERN IMOGENE Age 92, passed away July 31, 1999. She was born on February 12, 1907 to Earl and Julia (Carpenter) Simmons in Perrysburg, OH. Fern moved to South Lyon in 1954. Her 2 sisters, 4 Galofaro grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren survive her. Her daughter Barbara Galofaro in 1986, her husband Louis Shaffer in 1972 and 2 brothers and one sister preceded her in death.
