Mrs. Sophia V. Koronka
Sophia V. Koronka, age 88, died Friday February 14, 2003 at McReynolds Hall in Gaylord. She was born August 23, 1914 in Gaylord and has been a lifetime resident of Otsego County. She attended the Country School. She married James Koronka on May 13, 1935. She worked for Standard Products for a short time and also the By the Way restaurant where she was a wonderful chef. Mrs. Koronka was a very devoted mother. Mrs. Koronka is survived by her children, Richard (Linda) Koronka of Johannesburg, Chester (Ann) Koronka of Johannesbug Patricia Mead of Gaylord, Teresa (Grant) Powers of Gaylord, Judith Koronka of Gaylord, Marie (Henry) Siwecki of Vanderbilt, Helen (Russell) Hart of Gaylord, Joan Otto of Lewiston, Carolyn (Ed) Szymanski of Gaylord, Linda Koronka of Lewiston, Sandra (Guy) Nehrenz of Arizona; 25 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Helen Jozwiak of Gaylord. Mrs. Koronka was preceded in death by her husband James and her daughter Betty. Funeral Services for Mrs. Koronka will be held on Monday February 17, 2003 at 11 AM from St. Mary Cathedral, Fr. John McCracken officiating. Burial will be at Resurrection cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-9 PM at Nelson Funeral Home and on Monday beginning at 10 AM at the Cathedral. Memorial contributions may be made to McReyolds Hall or to Hospice of Michigan through the Nelson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Barbara Ann (Jencks) Large
Barbara Ann. (Jencks) Large, 59 of Gaylord died Saturday, March 8, 2003 at Otsego Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Large was born near Durand in Shiawasse County on September 13, 1943. She had lived in Indiana for several years before moving to Gaylord in 1972. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and will be remembered for her many acts of charity and goodwill to senior citizens. Mrs. Large is survived by her husband of more than 40 years, Jerry; her children, Darl Large, Sheri Brewer, Brian Large, Lisa (Michael) McGuigan, Lawrence “Larry” Large and Bruce Large; 7 grandchildren; brothers & sisters, Barry (Karen) Jencks, Daniel Jencks, Denise (Russell) Green, Brenda (Jack) Kline, David (Leona) Jencks, Dawn (Duane) Detzler and Debra Jencks. Mrs. Large was preceded in death by her parents Ralph & Lucille (Beckett) Jencks. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2003 at 11:00 AM from Calvary Baptist Church, Pastor Jon Harwood, officiating. Burial will take place in the spring at Hayes Township cemetery in Gaylord. Visitation on Tuesday will take place at the Nelson Funeral Home from 6-9 PM and on Wednesday at the church beginning at 10 AM.

Mrs. Vivian Mae Levitski
Vivian Mae Levitski, 77 of Gaylord died Saturday, April 5, 2003 at her home. Mrs. Levitski was born in Detroit on March 2, 1926 and spent her childhood there. She then moved to California for a year and from 1956 until 1993 she lived in Owosso and raised her family. She had been living in Gaylord since 1993. Mrs. Levitski loved crocheting and enjoyed various craft projects. She is survived by her children, Robert Heldreth, Douglas Heldreth, Marie (Stan) Jelinek and Thomas Levitski, all of Owosso, Elizabeth (Dennis) Taylor of Ovid, Penny Spencer of Gaylord; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Thomas Boyce of Gaylord and John Boyce of Cadillac. Three sisters and two brothers preceded her in death. MEMORIAL SERVICES will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2003 at 4:00 PM at Alten Zimmer, Pastor Mark Hoult, officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Northern Michigan Shrine Club, 809 West St. Gaylord, MI. 49735 Attn: David Ahern, through the Nelson Funeral Home.

Mr. Arthur Martin
Arthur Martin, 67 of Gaylord died Friday, February 21, 2003 at Otsego Memorial Hospital. Mr. Martin was born in Rogers City on January 18, 1936 and was raised in Rogers City. Mr. Martin worked and sailed the Great Lakes on various ships including The Cedarville. He later went to work for U.S. Plywood (Georgia Pacific) for 10 years and then went to work in the oil fields for Beckman, for 26 years. He was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of St. Mary Cathedral parish. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking. Mr. Martin is survived by his wife, Julia; 3 children, Shelli (Rick) Frascello of Jacksonville, FL, Cyndi (Robert) Hall of Gaylord, Chris (Linda) Martin of Gaylord; 8 grandchildren, Mike, Michele, Brad, Dan, Sarah, Dana, John and Jaime; 3 great grandchildren, Chris, Nick and Dalton; 2 sisters, Grace Arvim & Ruth Swetz both of the Detroit area. He was preceded in death by his parents Albert & Frances (Kamynski) Martin, his brother Frank Martin, his sister Lillian Smolinski and his great grandson Darrell Nobles. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Monday, February 24, 2003 at 11:00 AM from St. Mary Cathedral, Rev. John McCracken officiating. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home will be held on Sunday from 3-9 PM and on Monday from 10 AM until prayers at 10:30 AM. A Knights of Columbus rosary will be offered Sunday evening at 6:00 PM. Interment will take place in the spring at Resurrection cemetery in Vanderbilt. Memorial contributions may be made to the Otsego County Fire Department or to the Gaylord Athletic Boosters through the Nelson Funeral Home.

Mr. Anthony V. “Tony” Myszkier
Anthony V. “Tony” Myszkier, 86 of Gaylord died Tuesday, January 28, 2003 at his home. Mr. Myszkier was born in Detroit on April 5, 1916 and moved to Gaylord in 1946 after purchasing a farm. He also worked at Standard Products in Gaylord. Mr. Myszkier was a member of the VFW Clyde Wilkes Post, the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans. He was also a devoted member of St. Mary Cathedral parish. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2003 at 11:00 AM from St. Mary Cathedral, Rev. John McCracken and Rev. Garth Hilmer, concelebrating. Burial will take place in the spring at Hetherton cemetery near Johannesburg. Mr. Myszkier was preceded in death by his wife Johanna on March 9, 1999. He is survived by four children, Ruthann (Dan) Galbraith of DeWitt, MI, Roger (Cathy) Myszkier of Gaylord, Wanda (Gary) Averill of Sacramento, CA, Ranell (Dennis) Murphy of Houghton Lake; four grandchildren, General, Michelle, Tiffiany and Abigale; four great grandchildren, Madison, Justin, Andrew & Daniel; one brother, Arnold Myszkier, two sisters, Joan Lybeer & Janice Myszkier. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home will be held on Thursday from 6-8 PM, Friday from 1-8 PM and on Saturday from 9:30 AM until prayers at 10:30 AM A parish rosary will be held Friday evening at 6 PM followed by a VFW & DAV memorial service at 6:30 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the school Sisters of Notre Dame, through the Nelson Funeral Home.

Mr. Roland “Ronnie” Nickert
Roland “Ronnie” Nickert, 76 of Lewiston died Thursday, February 27, 2003. Mr. Nickert was born July 31, 1926 in Detroit and has owned a home in Lewiston the past 25 years. He moved permanently to Lewiston after retirement from General Motors, Hamtramck Cadillac Assembly in the early 1990’s. He was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lewiston. He loved his family and enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors. Mr. Nickert is survived by his wife, Velma; children, Kenneth of Lewiston, Karen (Raymond) Maslanka of Three Rivers; 3 grandsons, Scott (Amy) of Schoolcraft, Douglas & Daniel of Three Rivers; brother, Gordon Nickert of Lewiston; sisters, Dorothy Ardlege of Detroit, Esther Halfacre of Lincoln Park, Audrey Zubke of Lincoln Park; many nieces, nephews and godchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers Ernie and Charles Nickert and brother in law Ronnie Zubke. MEMORIAL SERVICES will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2003 at 1:00 PM from the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lewiston, Pastor Robert Butler, officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Roland Nickert family, through the Nelson Funeral Home, 135 N Center, Gaylord, MI 49735. The Nickert family would like to thank the Montmorency County 911 Emergency Department, the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Ladies Auxiliary and Pastor Butler.

Mrs. Hildegard Emma Olga Gohlke Noffze
Hildegard Emma Olga Gohlke Noffze, 91 of Gaylord died Wednesday, February 12, 2003 at Otsego Memorial Hospital in Gaylord. She was born July 26, 1911 in Alpena to Paul & Emma (Brandt) Gohlke of Sandborn Township, MI. She was an active and devoted member of The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod her entire life. Baptized and confirmed at St. Johannes Lutheran Church in Sandborn Township, Alpena County, Michigan. On June 8, 1937 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Herron, Michigan she married Reverend Richard Noffze. They lived in Alpena County until 1954 at which time they moved to Boyne City at the Christ Lutheran Church parsonage until September 1971 when they moved to Gaylord for their retirement years. Mrs. Noffze became a widow in 1982 and was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Her lifetime occupations were housewife, mother, helper in parish duties and seamstress for several home decorators. Mrs. Noffze was preceded in death by her husband Richard, her brothers William, Albert, Henry, Rudolph, Herman and Theodore Gohlke, sister Helen Gohlke Thoms, a niece and several nephews. She is survived by her two daughters, Helen (Robert) Noffze Joerger of Rutherford, New Jersey and Elaine Noffze of Lansing; granddaughter, Kaitlin Joerger of Alexandria, VA; grandson, Alexander Joerger of New York City, NY. Hildegard Gohlke Noffze lived her life in The Lord. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2003 at 11:00 AM from Trinity Lutheran Church in Gaylord, Rev. Todd Brunworth, officiating. Rev. Dr. Douglas Janetzke, a longtime family friend will preach the funeral sermon. Burial will take place at Rogers City Memorial Park cemetery. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home in Gaylord will be held on Friday (Feb 14) from 2-4 & 6-8 PM and on Saturday at the church beginning at 10 AM. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund / Noffze Hall, through the Nelson Funeral Home, 135 N Center, Gaylord, MI 49735.

Mr. Robert Bruce Norton
Robert Bruce Norton, age 69, passed away February 18, 2003 at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey. He was born October 9, 1933 in Alba, Michigan to Leo and Iva Norton. Mr. Norton was preceded in death by his wife Betty, his parents and his brother Leo, Jr. Mr. Norton is survived by his children, Denise (Chuck) Hewitt of Gaylord, Gregg (Brenda) of Boca Raton, FL, Marc (Vanessa) of Citrus Heights, CA, Dean (Kyra) of Jacksonville, FL; 8 grandchildren. He is also survived by his friend and companion Aara Sue Willison; brothers, Charlie (Monnie) Norton, and Gary (Beth) Norton; sisters, Mary (Jim) Loughry and Judy (Roy) Middleditch. Memorial services for Mr. Norton will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2003 at 5PM from the Gaylord Evangelical Free Church. The family will begin to gather at the church at 4PM. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Northland Sportsman's Club through the Nelson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Muriel Pritchett
Loving mother & grandmother, Muriel E. Pritchett died Sunday, March 16th at her home in Gaylord. Mrs. Pritchett was born on March 18, 1916 in Ohio, and was raised in the Detroit area. She later moved to Atlanta, MI in 1978 and had resided there for over 20 years. She loved to play cards, and sew. Mrs. Pritchett is survived by her children, Edward William (Louise) Crozier of Clinton Twp., Eugene DeForest Crozier of Arizona, Frank Joseph (Wanda) Crozier of Taylor, Charles H. (Connie) Crozier of Birch Run, Jane (Ken) Buckley of Arizona, and Diane (Gary) McGrath of Gladwin. Also surviving are many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter Jeanine Canfield, a son Anthony Lee Yokes, and 2 brothers & 2 sisters. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 20 at 11:00 AM from the Nelson Funeral Home, Inc. in Gaylord, Reverend John Naile, officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Weds. from 1-8 p.m. and on Thursday from 10 am until the time of service. Burial will be in Briley Twp. cemetery in Atlanta. Memorial contributions made be made to Hospice of Michigan through the Nelson Funeral Home, Inc.

Mr. Anthony “Tony” Prusakiewicz
Anthony “Tony” Prusakiewicz, 81 of Gaylord died Tuesday, March 4, 2003. Tony was born in Otsego County on May 1, 1921. Tony was born and raised in Otsego County. He served in the U.S. Navy for four and a half years during WWII. He ran Tony’s Sales and Service for more than 40 years and enjoyed working as a mechanic. He was a member of Knights of Columbus, VFW, and Fraternal Order of Eagles. He loved to hunt, fish and farm. Mr. Prusakiewicz was preceded in death by his parents, Bill & Rose Prusakiewicz; brother, Benjamin in 1989; and sister-in-law, Ilah Sattler in 2002. He is survived by his wife, Lois; children, Anthony Charles, Jr. of Warren, Janice (Dan) Lucier of Gaylord, Karen (Don) Fletemier of Gaylord, Cheryl (Kevin) Millimaki of Marquette, Daniel of Sault Ste. Marie, MI; grandchildren, Jessica (Charlie) Vickery, Andrea Millimaki, Kenneth Millimaki; sisters, Agnes Skowronski, Angeline (Alex) Czarkowski, Regina (Edmund) Ciszewski; sisters-in-law, Dorothy (Nels) Jensen, Judy (Jerry) Hile; many aunts & uncles. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Friday, March 7, 2003 at 11 AM from St. Mary Cathedral in Gaylord, Father John McCracken officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary cemetery in the spring. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home in Gaylord will be held on Thursday, March 6th from 1-8 PM, and at the cathedral on Friday beginning at 10 AM. There will be a wake service Thursday evening at 6 PM and a Knights of Columbus and Daughters of Isabella rosary Thursday at 7 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary School or St. Mary Cathedral, through the Nelson Funeral Home, 135 N. Center, Gaylord, MI 49735.

Mrs. JoAnn M. Quay
Mrs. JoAnn M. Quay, age 67 of Gaylord died Thursday, January 30, 2003 at her home. Mrs. Quay, the daughter of Joseph & Marie (Sova) VanHorne, was born September 13, 1935 in Cheboygan and spent her childhood there. In 1957 she married Dale Quay in Gaylord. Mrs. Quay enjoyed being a homemaker and loved to cook. MEMORIAL SERVICES will be held on Monday, February 3, 2003 at 11:00 AM from the Nelson Funeral Home, in Gaylord, Rev. John Naile, officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday beginning at 10 AM. Burial will take place in the spring at Fairview cemetery in Gaylord. Mrs. Quay is survived by her husband, Dale; her children, Gale (Randy) Church of Freeport, IL, Arnie Quay of Gaylord, Marcy (John) Dye of Gaylord, Bobby (Janet) Charboneau of Traverse City, Randy Charboneau of Cheboygan; her mother, Marie VanHorn; grandchildren, Becky & Nicole Church and Joel Quay; brothers & sisters, Alvin, Gary, Billy, Dicky, Rodney, Christine & Susie. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan, through the Nelson Funeral Home.

Mr. Richard G. Rogers
Richard G. Rogers, Age 67 of Gaylord, died Tuesday, Feb.4th at Otsego Memorial Hospital in Gaylord. Mr. Rogers was born on May 12th, 1935 in Springfield Vermont, was raised there, and graduated from Springfield High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict, and moved to Walled Lake, MI in 1965. He married the former Delphine Dobrzelewski at St. Thomas Church in Elmira on Aug. 19 1967. He then moved to Gaylord in 1994. He is a member of St. Mary Cathedral, the Gaylord Knights of Columbus, the Tin Can Sailors, American Legion Post #18 in Springfield Vermont, BMW motorcyclers, and was also an officer of the North Country Riders in Gaylord. He loved to spend time with his many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews teaching them jingles. He enjoyed all outdoor activities including fishing, and especially loved to ride his motorcycle. Mr. Rogers is survived by his wife Delphine, and a sister, Daisy (Edward) Gosselin of Springfield, Vermont. Also surviving are nephews, Gary (Jeanie) Gosselin of Texas, David, Peter, and Jeff Gosselin, all of Vermont, and niece Diane (Craig) Smith also of Vermont, and many great-nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 8th at 11AM from St. Mary Cathedral in Gaylord, the Rev. John McCracken officiating. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral home will be on Friday from 3-8 PM, and at the church on Saturday beginning at 10AM. A Knights of Columbus rosary will be said on Friday evening at 6PM. Interment will be in Vermont Veterans Memorial cemetery in Randolph Center, Vermont. Memorials appreciated to the ALS Assoc, or to St. Mary School through the Nelson Funeral Home.
