Beulah Kimball Wing
1998-12-17

LEWISTON - Beulah Kimball Wing, 93, of South Paris died Friday morning December 11, 1998 at Central Maine Medical Center.

She was born in Herman, ME on September 24, 1905, the daughter of Lester and Ethel Hughes Kimball.

She married Donald Wing in 1950.

She was most recently a resident of Market Square Health Care Center. Mrs. Wing was a long time member of Oxford Chapter 168 Order of the Eastern Star, Stone-Smart American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, the Women's Auxiliary at Stephens Memorial Hospital and a member of the Second Congregational Church UCC.

She is survived by a brother, Ivan Kimball and his wife, Muriel; two sisters, Avis Parslow of Bradenton, FL and Eleanor Robbins of Norfolk,CT; a cousin of Saco, two stepsons, Richard Wing and wife Jan of Mechanic Falls and Keith Wing and wife June of Norway, a daughter-in-law, Dolly Chick White, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Mrs. Wing was predeceased by a son Howard Chick,her husband, Donald, and several brothers and sisters.

Funeral services were held Tuesday the Second Congregational Church UCC, Main Street, Norway. Interment was in Riverside Annex Cemetery, South Paris.

Arrangements are under the direction of Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, Norway.

Barbara Wing
1999-01-29

Barbara Wing, 50, of New Gloucester, died last week at a Portland hospital.

Mrs. Wing was born in Rockland, a daughter of Robert and Bernys Overlock Mattson; she graduated from Waldoboro High School and the Golden School of Beauty. She also attended the University of Southern Maine, Gorham.

She loved snowmobiling, fishing, hunting (she once shot a moose), camping, sewing, cooking, upholstery work and time spent at the family camp in Rockwood.

For 20 years, she was a manager at Unum. Prior to that, she had owned a beauty shop.

Mrs. Wing is survived by her parents and her husband of 23 years, David, all of New Gloucester; three stepsons, Tony, of Hartford, and Robert and Todd, both of New Gloucester; a sister, Mrs. Kurt (Roberta) Tielinen, of New Gloucester; and one grandchild.

Visiting hours were at Wilson Funeral Home, Gray, with burial to be in the spring.

Mr. Donald S. Winslow
1999-06-17

LEWISTON - Donald S. Winslow, 77, of Poland, died Saturday, June 12, 1999, at Central Maine Medical Center.

He was born, Nov. 28, 1921, in Auburn, the only child of Raymond L. and Abbie Cobb Winslow.

He had many interests, including ham radio (W1LER/W1JD), photography, surveying, computers and genealogy.

He was a member of the graduating class of 1939 at Mechanic Falls High School and earned a bachelor's degree in business administration in 1974 from the University of Maine at Orono.

He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II as a radioman 1st class. His service included tours of duty in Cuba and in the Pacific. His decorations include the Navy Good Conduct, American Defense, American Campaign, Asiatic Pacific Campaign, World War II Victory, Philippine Independence and Philippine Liberation medals.

His lifelong career was in broadcast engineering. He first worked at radio stations WTVL and WRKD, and was a pioneer in television broadcasting at WMTW and later retired from Maine Public Broadcasting in 1985 as network chief engineer.

He was a member of Tyrian Lodge, 73 AF & AM of Mechanic Falls, and Dwinal Chapter 28 of Eastern Star, the Mayflower Society Veterans of Foreign War, the Maine Historical Society and the Poland Historical Society.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Wanda M. (Walters); five children, Rodney W. and his wife, Vicki, of Poland, Barbara E. and her husband, John Caron, of Quimby, Richard L. and his wife, Mary, of Carlisle, PA., Carol A. and her husband, Peter Roderick, of Eddington, and Donald J. and his wife, Dora, of Herman; 10 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by twin daughters in 1944 and a step-granddaughter in 1998.

Memorial Services were held on Wednesday, June 16 at the Minot Methodist Church with Interment in Gracelawn Memorial Park, Auburn.

Contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.

Arrangements were under the direction of Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, Mechanic Falls.

Robert Leroy Womer
1998-03-26

Robert L. Womer passed away on Friday, March 20 at home in Southport, exactly one year to the day after his wife.

His ashes will be interred in the Houghton family plot in the village cemetery of Woodhull, Illinois. He was the husband of the late Margaret Jessie Houghton.

Robert Womer was born near Niles, Michigan on June 19, 1909 of farming parents and spent his early years in the farming community of Portage Prairie. He received his elementary school training in the Womer country school. Later his family moved to Niles, Michigan where he attended high school from which he was graduated in 1925. In 1929 he was graduated with honor from North Central College where he majored in physics and mathematics. In 1933 he was awarded the Ph.D degree in physics and mathematics from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.

While attending graduate school he met Margaret Jessie Houghton, and they were married in 1933. In that same year he was employed by Western Cartridge Company (later to become Olin Corporation) where he assisted in organizing and building a research ad development department. After various technical assignments he became an Associate Director for Research and Development at Olin Corporation. In 1954 he resigned to accept the post of Vice President and Technical Director for Speer Carbon Co. of St. Mary's, Penna. After building a technical organization and research laboratory at Speer, he resigned in 1964 to devote his time to personal interests.

From this time on Mr. and Mrs. Womer traveled fairly widely. In 1967 they settled in Arlington, Vermont, spending their winters in Mexico and Central America. In 1974 they established a winter home in Green Valley, and later became year-round residents.

Mr. Womer was a member of a number of technical organizations including Sigma Xi. He was also a member of Sons of the American Revolution. He was active in various church and civic affairs. His hobbies included photography and archaeology.

He leaves a daughter, Susan Womer Katzev who resides in Southport; one sister, Edith Yaw of Niles, Michigan; a brother, Clyde of South Bend, Indiana, and a brother, Dr. Frank Womer of Ann Arbor, Michigan, as well as six nephews and nieces.

The family would be grateful if memorial gifts were directed to Miles Home Health and Hospice, RR2 Box 4500, Damariscotta, Maine 04543.

Natalie Wood
1999-08-20

Natalie Smith Wood, one of Gray's beloved residents, passed away on Saturday, August 14, after a valiant struggle.

Mrs. Wood is survived by her husband, Richard C., two sons, Gary S. and Wayne, a daughter, Wendy Gallagher, and four grandchildren, all of Gray.

She was born in Portland, a daughter of Oscar S. and Rosanna Lysaght Smith.

At her request, there was no funeral. Arrangements were by Wilson Funeral Home, 24 Shaker Road.

Russell M. Woodin
1998-04-16

Russell Mead Woodin, 68, of West Boothbay Harbor died Wednesday, April 1 at his home on McKown Point Road.

Born May 13, 1929 in Montpelier, Vermont, he was the son of Knowlton Mead and Mildred Foster Woodin. He graduated from Northfield High School, Vermont and Bates College as a naval architect.

Mr. Woodin was employed after college at the John Alden Co. and the John Gilbert Co., both naval architect firms in Boston.

He was a member of the Charles C. Dana Masonic Lodge in Georgetown, Massachusetts and was a past grand patron of the Eastern Star, Chapter 213, in Scituate, Massachusetts in the 1960s.

Mr. Woodin worked at General Dynamics in Quincy, Mass. and retired in 1973 to West Boothbay Harbor. At that time he started Woodin and Marean, a naval architectural firm.

He also was a member of the Power Squadron of Maine where he taught boating and safety classes. The passion of his life was the sea and sailing.

Survivors include his two sons, Thomas Woodin of Topsham and Andrew Woodin of Biddeford; one grandson, Benjamin Woodin of Topsham.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, April 11 at the Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor. Rev. Peter Panagore officiated. Arrangements by Simmons & Harrington Funeral Home, Boothbay Harbor.

Ida Mae Woodman
1998-11-12

Ida Mae Woodman, 98, pasted away on Nov. 4 at Fieldcrest Manor, Waldoboro.

Born Feb. 18, 1900, she was the daughter of George and Ada Beal Smalley.

After moving to Everett, Mass., she met and married Thomas Indeison Woodman. They moved to Portland and resided there for a number of years before residing in New York and South Bristol, where they had a summer home.

Ida Mae worked as a cook at the Rockland State Hospital, Rockland, NY, and upon retirement made permanent residency at their home in South Bristol. She was employed at the Thompson Inn in South Bristol, where she was chief cook. She then owned and operated the Kozy Korner Bake Shop in South Bristol.

She was a member of the Senior Citizens Rug club, where she made braided wool rugs, rag dolls, and quilts as well as knitted and crocheted handiworks.

She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas in 1966.

Surviving is one son George Edward Woodman of South Bristol, four grandchildren, Thomas A. Woodman of Rockland, Glen K. Woodman of South Bristol, Lori L. Storer of Damariscotta and Georgia I. Woodman of South Bristol and nine great-grandchildren, Dustin, Sarah, Joshua, Chelsea, Dana, Kyle, Hannah, Diane and Jeremy.

A graveside service will be held at West Bristol Cemetery, Walpole at a time to be announced. Arrangement are through Strong Funeral Home of Damariscotta.

Eleanor Wright
1999-01-28

Eleanor Wright, 91, of Rye, New Hampshire died Wednesday afternoon, January 20 at Webster's at Rye in Rye, N.H.

She was the wife of the late Harland F. Wright.

Born in Chelmsford, Massachusetts, July 26, 1907, daughter of the late George A. and Marion (Miller) Byam, Mrs. Wright had been a resident of Rye for the past year and a half, previously residing in Haverhill, Mass., Plaistow, N.H., and East Boothbay.

Mrs. Wright was a comptroller and assistant treasurer at the William E. Bixby Company of Haverhill, Mass., where she worked for over 34 years.

She was a member of the Boothbay Region Garden Club, a former member of the First Church of Christ Church in Bradford, Mass., the Haverhill and Chelmsford Historical Societies, the Leisure Hour Club of Haverhill and the Herb Society of America.

Survivors include two daughters, Janice L. George of Haverhill, Mass., and Marion E. Bates of Reading, Penn.; two brothers, George A. Byam of Chelmsford, Mass., and Lamont Byam of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Edythe Riese of Chelmsford, Mass., and Beverly Byam of Hudson, N.H.; five grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.

Private family services will be held at Elmwood cemetery in Bradford, Mass., with arrange- ments by Simplicity Burial & Cremation Services, 287 High Street, Newburyport, Mass.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Linwood Wright
1999-07-29

Linwood ``Linny" Wright, 67, of Woolwich, died Monday, July 19 at his home.

Born in Bath on September 29, 1931, he was the son of Irving B. and Lura Davis Wright. He attended Bath schools.

As a young man, he worked on the Wing Farm. He then joined the National Guard, serving in active duty.

On August 27, 1965, he married Carlene Auriemme.

Mr. Wright was a locksmith, bending floor at Bath Iron Works Harding Plant for 37 years. He retired in 1998.

He was a member of the American Legion Smith-Tobey Post in Bath, where he was active with the 40/8. He also was a life-member of the Bath Lodge of Elks.

Mr. Wright enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, traveling and spending time with his family and granddaughter. In the 1970s, he also owned racehorses, which he entered in Maine fairs.

He was predeceased by a step-son, Kim A. Auriemme, on November 1, 1972; and a sister, Pauline McNeil, on March 12, 1997.

Survivors include his wife of Woolwich; a stepdaughter, Karla A. Densmore of Wiscasset; two brothers, Irving Wright of Dresden, and Stanley Wright of Woolwich; a sister, Mildred Harkin of Whitefield; a granddaughter, Kimberly A. Densmore of Wiscasset; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, July 31 at 2 p.m. in Old Greenlawn Cemetery, Wiscasset, with an Elks Club and American Legion service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House, 250 Brackett Street, Portland, ME 04102. Arrangements are by Mayo & Daigle Funeral Home, 40 Federal Street, Wiscasset.

Walter D. Wyman
1998-09-17

Walter D. Wyman, 82, East Boothbay of King Philip's Trail and formerly a longtime resident of Belgrade Lakes, died Mon., Sept. 7, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation & Nursing Care at Gray Birce Drive, Augusta.

He was born in Augusta on Feb. 21, 1916, the son of Walter G. Wyman and Edrie H. (Breen) Wyman. He was a graduate of Cony High School in Augusta and business college in Boston.

Mr. Wyman served honorably as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps from Jan. 15, 1942, until his discharge on Jan. 24, 1946. He was a flight engineer and bomber with the 318th Fighter Group. He flew on P51's and P47's in Africa and Italy. He was wounded in Folger, Italy and spend 20 months in hospitals overseas before being located by his family through the Red Cross on Valentine's Day.

Prior to his retirement, Mr. Wyman was employed as an accountant by Peachey Builders for 20 years. He was previously employed as an office manager by Stone & Cooper Fuel Co. and also was employed by Sears, Roebuck & Co.

He was a life member of John MacPherson Chapter of Disabled American Veterans, American Legion Post No. 178 of Waterville, Disabled American Veterans Commanders Club and the National Rifle Association.

He married Ruth Ann Chaput on Oct. 15, 1953. She died Sept. 20, 1993.

Surviving is a son, Jeffrey D. Wyman of Longmont, Col.; a daughter, Claranne Wyman of East Boothbay; a grandson, Darren Basinger of Saco; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

At his request, there were no visiting hours. Committal prayers were offered Friday at Maine Veterans Memorial cemetery Chapel. Arrangements under the care of Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta.
