E. Patricia Tibbetts
2003-02-27

E. Patricia Tibbetts, 72, of Murray Hill Road, East Boothbay died peacefully Friday, February 21 at her winter home in Stuart, Florida.

Born February 3, 1931, in Dedham, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of Louise (Maynard) Tibbetts and Robert Tibbetts of East Boothbay. She graduated from Dedham High School, class of 1950.

In 1952 she married Leonard P. Salter of Providence, Rhode Island. After her husband died in a car accident in 1965, she devoted the next 20 years to raising her five children on her own.

Survivors include dear friend and companion, Sandra Brown; sons, Robert, Neil, Eben, Charles, and Bryan Salter, and eight grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held this summer in East Boothbay at a date to be determined.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Patricia's memory may be made to Miles Home Health and Hospice, 42 Belvedere Road, Damariscotta, ME 04543.

Mary B. Townsend
2003-10-02

Mary Burnham Townsend, 92, of Kennebunk, died Friday, September 26 at Bradford On The Common.

Born on March 25, 1911 in Boothbay, she was the daughter of Stephen E. and Jessie Spear Bryer and attended schools here.

In 1934, she married Chester Burnham and they lived in Boothbay until his death in 1975. Later she married Clarence Townsend. He died in Naples, Fla. where they were residing at the time. She continued to live there, and spent summers at Ocean Point, until she moved to Hollis in 1994.

Mrs. Townsend was appointed postmistress of the Ocean Point Post Office in 1938 and served Ocean Point residents until her retirement in 1977.

Survivors include her sister, Hilda Libby of Kennebunk, and several nieces and nephews.

Following Mrs. Townsend's wishes there were no services.

Arrangements are by Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home in Buxton.

Timothy A. Trask
2003-03-13

Timothy A. "Stockie" Trask, 44, of Nobleboro died unexpectedly after a brief illness Thursday, March 6 at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Born in Gardiner on May 1, 1958, he was the son of Gareth G. and Beverly M. (Russell) Trask.

He attended Wiscasset schools and Morse High School in Bath.

Mr. Trask loved basketball and attended most of the local games. He also loved stock car racing and had traveled to almost every track in Maine over the years. He had gone to Wiscasset Raceway since the age of 11. He loved spending time with his many friends.

He was predeceased by a brother, Eric Austin Trask in March of 1969.

Survivors include his parents, Gareth and Beverly Trask of Nobleboro; two sisters, Mrs. Dale (Traci) Rickards of Gray and Mrs. Shawn (Holli) Higgins of Bristol; his grandmother, Mildred Russell of Whitefield; five nieces and one nephew; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visiting hours were held Sunday, March 9 at Mayo & Daigle Funeral Home, 40 Federal Street, Wiscasset. A Funeral Service was held Monday at the funeral home with the Reverend Iris Burnell officiating. A gathering of family and friends followed the service at the Alna Fire Station, Route 218, Alna. Burial will be in Alna cemetery in the spring.

At the family's request, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family to 313 West Neck Road, Nobleboro, ME 04555.

Payson A. Tufts
2003-01-31

Payson A. Tufts, 75, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., passed away Saturday, January 18, 2003 at Sierra Vista Regional Health Center after a valiant fight with cancer. He had been a Sierra Vista area resident for the past 35 years.

Payson was born December 20, 1926, in New Gloucester, a son of Eben and Aileen Tufts. Payson graduated from Pennell Institute in 1945. He married the love of his life, Pauline Pollard, on September 18, 1948. The family lived in Wisconsin, Alaska and Virginia before coming to Sierra Vista with USASTRATCOM in June of 1967.

Payson held a series of progressively higher-level positions during his federal service years. He was most recently employed with the Sierra Vista office of SPARTA, Inc. Payson received the Commander's Award, Meritorious Civilian Service Award and numerous awards for outstanding and exceptional performance. He started GTA, Inc. in 1969, which is still operating in town today.

Payson is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Pauline of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; his sister, Barbara Pollard, of Gray; his mother, Aileen Tufts; sons Charles (Dava) Tufts of California, Ross Tufts of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Payson Tufts, Jr., o f Oregon; daughters Sharon (Tommy) Henson of California, and Elizabeth (Dennis) Wallace of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; brother Gordon Tufts of Nevada; grandsons Matthew and Kevin Wilkinson, and Jeffrey and Robert Tufts: granddaughters Cynthia Wilkinson, Pauline Wallace and Megan and Dana Tufts; and great-grandson Tyler Wilkinson.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Payson's name to the American Cancer Society, c/o Marie Storment, 2160 E. Fry Blvd. St. C5 #343, Sierra Vista, Ariz. 85635.

Arrangements were by Hatfield Funeral Home, 830 S. Highway 92, Sierra Vista, Ariz.

Beverly Taylor
2004-04-16

Beverly Marie Taylor, 73, of Mayall Road, died Easter Morning, April 11, at Mercy Hospital after suffering a stroke.

She was born in the Little Falls area of Gorham at the home of her parents, Frank and Aurilla Saunders Morton. She was a graduate of Gorham High School. After her marriage toWilliam A. Taylor in 1949, she moved to Windham, where she spent most of her life.

Mrs. Taylor worked at Blue Cross Blue Shield for several years, and at Northeast Bank. She retired in the early 1970s.

She was active in her church, town politics and the Republican Party. She and her husband were members of the North Windham United church of Christ Church prior to their move to Gray, where they became members of the First Congregational Church UCC.

Bev was always there for those in need, helping wherever she could. She enjoyed traveling, cooking and, most of all, time spent with family and her dog, Sam. Her biggest joy was her grandchildren. She was an extraordinary person who touched many lives. She will forever be in the hearts of her husband of 55 years, Bill; her three children, Kathleen Farrell, and her husband, Fred, of Gray; Kenneth Taylor and his wife, Susan, of New Gloucester, and her youngest daughter, Joan Hodgdon, of Gray; as well as her grandchildren, Stacey and Bill Taylor, Matthew and Kathy Hodgdon and Fred Farrell.

She leaves behind her sisters, Ethel Quatrucci, ofWindham, Winnifred Robichaud, of Westbrook, and Beth Dusty, of Windsor Locks, CT; brothers, Dr. Keith Morton, of Raymond, and Donald Morton, of Windham, of Windham; and many loved nieces and nephews.

A graveside service was held Thursday at Smith Cemetery, in Windham, with Rev. Douglas Hedstrom officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to First Congregational Church, UCC, 11 Yarmouth Rd., Gray ME 04039.

The Taylor family would like to thank the staff of Mercy Hospital for their kind and loving care.

Elizabeth R. Taylor
2004-01-22

Elizabeth Ruby Taylor, 96, of Hartford, Conn., Bloomfield, Conn., and Boothbay Harbor, widow of L. Henry Taylor, died Sunday, January 18 at Seabury Retirement Community. Mrs. Taylor was a longtime resident of Hartford, Conn. and a member of Broadview Community Church.

She was born and grew up in Walla Walla, Washington where she graduated from Whitman College, class of 1928. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. After graduation she studied library science and worked in libraries and book stores in Walla Walla, Cambridge, Mass., and Hartford, Conn., including the Trinity College library.

Mrs. Taylor and her husband Henry were active in Hartford Public High School activities and were great outdoors people, teaching camping and canoeing many summers in Ontario, Canada and in New Hampshire. They enjoyed many extended retirement seasons at Sprucewold in Boothbay Harbor.

Survivors include a daughter, Katharine T. Hoff and her husband Roger S. Hoff of Trenton, N.J.; a son, Frederick H. Taylor and his wife, Judith W. Taylor of Vernon, Conn.; five grandchildren, Douglas C. Taylor, Theodore H. Jobes, Jane E. Houle, Benjamin F. Jobes and Jill K. Taylor; and four great-grandchildren.

Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Whitman College, The Whitman Fund, 345 Boyer Avenue, Walla Walla, WA 99362-9912 or to the Memorial Fund, Broadview Community Church, 45 Oliver Street, Hartford, CT 06106.

James C. Thomas
2004-09-02

James C. Thomas, 73, of Wiscasset, formerly of Boothbay Harbor, died Wednesday, August 25 at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick from prostate cancer.

Born December 22, 1930 in Haddonfield, N.J., he was the son of Osborne and Mary Harner Thomas. He grew up in Haddonfield, N.J. and graduated from Haddonfield Memorial High School in the class of 1949.

Mr. Thomas attended the University of Pennsylvania and was drafted into the Army where he served as a medic during the Korean War. After the war he graduated with a B.S. degree from University of Pennsylvania. He also received his Masters degree at Rutgers University.

For many years he was a Marine Biologist working for the Department of Fish & Game in New Jersey, Department of Fish & Game in California and lastly at the Department of Marine Resources in Boothbay Harbor. He was the senior scientist who directed the Lobster Research Project at Department of Marine Resources. In 1983, he retired and in 1987, he moved to Wiscasset.

Mr. Thomas enjoyed watching sporting events, boating, hunting, fishing, golfing, traveling and working in his vegetable garden. He especially enjoyed the activities of his twin granddaughters who were the joy of his life. He predeceased by his brother, Robert O. Thomas.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Frieda K. Thomas of Wiscasset; one daughter, Dawn K. Thomas and her husband Francis Lorello of So. Portland; two grandchildren, Maureen K. Lorello and Dilyse T. Lorello of So. Portland;four nieces and four nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, September 3 at the Boothbay Harbor Congregational Church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 1 Main Street, Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086, or Hydrocephalus Association, 870 Market Street, Suite 705, San Francisco, CA 94102 . Arrangements are under the care and direction of Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home in Boothbay.

Roy A. Thomas Sr.
2004-07-15

Roy A. Thomas Sr., 80, of Crisfield, Maryland, died Wednesday, July 7 at McCready Memorial Hospital in Crisfield, Md.

Born October 2, 1923, he was a son of the late Preston and Matilda McCready Thomas. He was a retired custodian at Rubberset Corp. in Crisfield, and he worked many years as a forest ranger for the State of Maryland at many parks on the Eastern Shore.

A U.S. Army World War II veteran, Mr. Thomas was a member of Crisfield V.F.W. No. 8274 and Crisfield Church of God.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Naomi Griner Thomas of Crisfield; seven children including Sonia Soler and her husband Ray of Boothbay; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; seven brothers; five sisters; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 10 at Crisfield Church of God, with Interment with military honors performed by the U.S. Army in Crisfield V.F.W. Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent to Lower Somerset County Ambulance & Rescue Squad, LSCARS, P.O. Box 405, Crisfield, MD 21817.

Stanley G. Thompson
2004-01-08

Stanley G. Thompson, 78, died Monday, January 5 at Togus Veterans Hospital.

He was born March 11, 1925 in Wiscasset, the son of Ervin and Arneita West Thompson. He grew up in Wiscasset and graduated from Wiscasset High School.

He worked at A&P grocery store in Gardiner for over 30 years. He later worked at the Tugboat Inn in Boothbay Harbor as a maintenance worker until he retired.

He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U. S. Army. He was a member of the American Legion.

He enjoyed building his bird feeders, napkin holders and banana holders that he sold all over the state. He also enjoyed cooking his peanut butter fudge.

He was predeceased by his wife, Gloria Albert Thompson.

He is survived by a son, Robert M. Thompson of Boothbay; a daughter, Bernice Bagnaschi of Meriden, Ct.; sisters, Ruthina Clark of Edgecomb and Dorothy Speed of Wiscasset; grandchildren, Robert Michael Wallace of Boothbay, Nicholas John Wallace of Boothbay, and Michelle Sansoucie, Jessica Sansoucie and Edward Bagnaschi III all of Meriden, Ct.

A committal service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, January 12 at the Maine Veterans Mt. Vernon Road cemetery in Augusta. Rev. Stephen Tolander will officiate. Arrangements are under the care of Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, Boothbay.

Kendrick B. Tibbetts
2004-10-07

Kendrick B. Tibbetts, 89, of Southport, died Monday, September 29 at St. Andrews Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Jean S. Tibbetts, to whom he had been married for 54 years.

Born in Keene, N.H. on September 12, 1915, he was the son of Merrick S. and Marion B. Tibbetts of Friendship and Searsmont.

He was a graduate of Bentley College in Boston, and later of New York University Stern School of Business earning his CPA. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as a first lieutenant.

After the war, he joined Charles F. Rittenhouse & Company in Boston as an accountant then was later transferred to New York City in 1946. He joined the Broadway Congregational Church in New York, where he served as church clerk. There he met Laszlo "Pip" Simonyi, who introduced him to his daughter Jean. Ken and Jean were married at the church July 29, 1950.

After a 24-year career in public accounting he joined Heidelberg Eastern Inc., makers of fine art printing presses.

In 1973 Mr. and Mrs. Tibbetts retired to the Southport home that had been in the Simonyi family since the mid-1940s. Retirement didn't last long as they opened the gift store "Two's Company" in Boothbay Harbor, a fixture at 45 Commercial Street from 1973 to 1984. After selling the store they retired to country living.

Survivors include his wife, Jean S. Tibbetts; two daughters, Mary W. Tibbetts, MD of Morton Grove, Ill. (Eugene Maslana), and Jean H. Tibbetts, MD of Bangor (Richard Lenz, MD); three grandchildren; one brother, Merrick S. Tibbetts Jr. of Rumson, N.J. A sister, Dorothy T. Small preceded him in death.

Friends and neighbors are welcome to join the family at a memorial service to be held at the Tibbetts' home "Pip's Bluff" on Southport, Saturday, October 9 at 2 p.m.

In Mr. Tibbetts' memory, donations may be sent to St. Andrews Hospital, Boothbay Harbor.

Arrangements are under the direction of Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, Boothbay.
