AUGUSTA
Emilia St. Hilaire – age 94 of Glenridge Dr., and formerly of Washington St., died Saturday, September 14, 2002 at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center – Glenridge, after a long illness. She was born in St. Sabine Canada on September 13, 1908 a daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Morrissette) Dion.
Mrs. St. Hilaire was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church and was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne Society.
She had been employed by Bates Mfg. Co. for 42 years.
Mrs. St. Hilaire was pre-deceased by her husband, Napoleon “Paul” St. Hilaire; a grandson, two great-grandchildren and several brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her son, Paul A. St. Hilaire and his wife Noella of Greene; three daughters, Jeannine St. Hilaire and Therese Karagiannes both of Augusta and Lucille Bechard of Lewiston; a brother, Adelard Dion of St. Sabine, Canada; a sister, Lucia Cote of St. Sabine, Canada; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends may visit on Tuesday from 7-9 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta where members of the Ladies of St. Anne Society are asked to meet at 7:30 to recite prayers for their departed member. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 AM at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Northern Ave., Augusta.
Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery, Townsend Rd., Augusta.

CHELSEA
Theresa M. Tardiff – age 74, of McLaughlin Circle, died August 18, 2002 at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation & Nursing Care at Gray Birch Drive after a long illness. She was born in Augusta, Maine on May 26, 1928 the daughter of Napoleon Breton and Florence (Caouette) Breton.
Mrs. Tardiff was educated in Augusta schools. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the State of Maine for 3 years. She was previously employed by Hudson Pulp & Paper Co., which later became Statler Tissue Co., for a total of 20 years.
Mrs. Tardiff was a communicant of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church of Augusta and a member of the Maine State Retirees Association.
She was a very special Mom, sister and friend. Her love for her children, grandchildren, sisters & brothers will never be forgotten. She was a very caring, thoughtful, strong and amazing person. She always thought of others first and was there when she was needed. Her hobbies included knitting and babysitting.
Mrs. Tardiff was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Victor C. Tardiff, Sr. and a brother, Eugene “Blackie” Breton.
Surviving is a daughter, Lorraine A. Wilson of Belgrade; four sons, Victor C. Tardiff, Jr. of Chelsea, Gerard A. Tardiff, Rodney P. Tardiff, and Michael S. Tardiff all of Augusta; one brother, Richard “Dick” Breton of Chelsea; two sisters, Anita Martin of Augusta and Pauline Pelton of Windsor; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, two aunts, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
There are no public visiting hours scheduled. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM Thursday, August 22nd at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church. PITTSTON
George R. Whitehouse – age 64 of Putnam Mobile Home Park, and formerly of Vassalboro, died Monday, August 19, 2002 at the VA Medical Center, Togus after a long illness. He was born in Lewiston on February 28, 1938 the son of Robert C. and Blanche B. (Roy) Whitehouse.
Mr. Whitehouse was a graduate of Cony High School class of 1956 and had attended Mid State College.
He served in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee, the Army National Guard and Air National Guard for a total of over 20 years.
Mr. Whitehouse had been employed by Bath Iron Works for 10 years. He had previously worked as a Recruiter for the U.S. Army National Guard and a draftsman for the State of Maine – Department of Transportation for over 20 years.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge # 1293 of Gardiner and the American Legion Post # 4 of Gardiner and was a former Mason and Shriner.
Mr. Whitehouse is survived by his wife of 8 years, Anita M. (Veilleux) Whitehouse of Pittston; four sons, Robert C. Whitehouse, II of Waterville, Michael J. Whitehouse of Chesterville, David J. Whitehouse of Florida and George R. Whitehouse, II of New London, CT; four daughters, Dawn A. Thomas of Pittston, Michelle J. Miller of Chelsea, Beth A. Calden and Angela M. Rhoten both of Augusta; a step-daughter, Lori A. Hunt of Sidney; 11 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren and several cousins.
There will be no public visiting hours. A committal service will be held on Monday, August 26th at 11 AM in the chapel at the new Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta.

AUGUSTA, MAINE
Frank J. Alioto – age 80, of Meadow Road, and formerly of Long Island, New York, died December 1, 2002 at MaineGeneral Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 24, 1922 the son of Vincenzo J. Alioto and Maria (Corso) Alioto.
Mr. Alioto was educated in New York and served honorably in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during World War II.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the State of New York Department of Labor for over 40 years in New York City.
Frank was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church of Augusta. He was a man who was very devoted to his family.
Surviving is his wife of 56 years, Amelia (Radtka) Alioto of Augusta; two sons, Frank J. Alioto, Jr. and his wife Barbara of Los Gatos, CA and Paul J. Alioto of Old Forge, NY; two daughters, Bernadette Alioto of Augusta and Mary Catherine Alioto and her husband Larry Donahue of Richmond; one brother, Joseph Alioto of Yorktown, NY; one sister, Sister Joseph Dolores of Amityville, NY; three grandsons, Justin Formisano of Augusta, Frank Alioto III and Luke Alioto, both of Los Gatos, CA; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visiting hours are 2-4 & 7-9 PM Wednesday Dec. 4th at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant Street, Augusta, Maine. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM Thursday at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. Spring burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Manchester.
AUGUSTA
Gilda M. Allen – age 78, of Glenridge Drive and formerly of Washington Street and Oxford Street Ext., died January 24, 2003 at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation & Nursing Care at Glenridge Drive after a long illness. She was born in Augusta, Maine on June 9, 1924 the daughter of Joseph Veilleux and Anna (Quirion) Veilleux.
Mrs. Allen was a homemaker in her own home for most of her life, but she was employed by Hallowell Shoe Co., Gardiner Shoe Co. and Bates Manufacturing Co. for several years.
Gilda was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and St. John the Baptist Union of America Conseil Jeanne D’Arc.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers: Henry, Napoleon, Lionel and Alfred “Shorty” Veilleux and two sisters: Christine Beaudoin and Joffrine Rodrigue.
Surviving are three sons, Larry Allen of Sherbrooke, P.Q., Canada, Steven Allen of Augusta and Robert Allen of Portland; one daughter, Susan McCrimmon of Whitefield; two brothers, Joseph Arthur Veilleux and Aime Veilleux, both of Augusta; one sister, Theresa Bean of Augusta; 9 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins as well as two special friends: Linda Breslin of Winslow and Diane Gilbert of Augusta.
There will be no public visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Monday, January 27th at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Spring burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery, Augusta.
SIDNEY
Norman J. Beaulieu – age 73 of Middle Rd., died unexpectedly Saturday, November 23, 2002 at MaineGeneral Medical Center – Augusta Campus. He was born in Van Buren on May 3, 1929 a son of Joseph and Roseanna (Beaulieu) Ayotte.
Mr. Beaulieu was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church and was a U.S Army Veteran serving during the Korean War.
He had been employed for the State of Maine Bureau of Public Improvements for 25 years, retiring in 1991 and had previously worked at Taylor Shoe Co.
Mr. Beaulieu was pre-deceased by a brother, Albert Ayotte.
He is survived by a brother, Edward Ayotte of Van Buren; a sister, Roseanna Ayotte of Sidney; 2 nieces, Lisa Lajoie and Sue Cyr; a nephew, Michael Ayotte; 4 grandnieces, 3 grandnephews and several cousins.
Relatives and friends may visit Monday from 7-9 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at noon at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Northern Ave., Augusta. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery, Townsend Rd., Augusta in the spring.

AUGUSTA
William J. Bell, Sr. – age 78 of Tasker Rd., died Friday, November 22, 2002 at Maine Medical Center, Portland, following a brief illness. He was born in Fort Fairfield on May 14, 1924 a son of Charles and Lucy (Cote) Bell.
Mr. Bell had been a union construction worker for over 15 years and had previously worked for several shoe companies.
He was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and was a U.S. Army veteran who served during World War II.
Some of his hobbies included ice fishing, cards, bowling, hunting, 4-wheeling, his many trips to Foxwoods in Connecticut and gambling.
Mr. Bell was a member of the Augusta Elks Lodge, Augusta Eagles and the Calumet Club and was a former member of the American Legion and Am. Vets.
He was predeceased by his wife of 29 years and mother of his children, Nonie G. (Scoggin) Bell; a second wife and long time companion, Patricia Stevens; and several brothers and sisters.
He is survived by a son, William J. Bell, Jr. and his wife Bonnie of Chelsea; two daughters, Lucy-Ann Bell, Roy and her husband Philip N. Roy, Sr. of Sinclair and Betty L. Brann of Augusta; three brothers, Philip Bell of Augusta, Robert Bell and Richard Bell both of Windsor; three sisters, Gertrude Sanford of Augusta, Annie Giroux of Chelsea and Lucille Burns of Maryland; eight grandchildren, Philip N. Roy, Jr., Peter S. Roy, Robin J. Dostie, Jennifer G. Campbell, William J. Bell, III, Scott, Ryan and Travis Brann; six great-grandchildren, Jacob P. Roy, Devin and Riley Campbell, Michayla and Corbin Dostie and Alyssa Bell; several aunts and uncles and many nieces, nephews and cousins and his ever present cat, “Poker”.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Western Ave., Augusta. Burial will be in Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Dr., Augusta.
MANCHESTER
C. Peter Blouin – age 77, loving husband and father, of Augusta, Manchester and Naples, Florida died quietly with wife and family from complications from leukemia on January 2, 2003, at his home on Lake Cobbossecontee.
He was born on February 12, 1925 in Augusta, son of Calix and Mimi Blouin.
While attending Staunton Military Academy, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where, as a sergeant. He served as a night fighter radar operator for Squadron 521 on Okinawa, Ryukyu Island and other Pacific Islands. He was a rifle marksman and a sharp shooter. Following his service for his country he returned to SMA and graduated. He attended the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.
He was owner of Blouin Motors, a Chrylser-Plymouth-Dodge dealership in Augusta for almost fifty years. He acquired the Huyndai franchise in 1991. His many long-time faithful employees enabled him to pursue his long-time love of flying. He learned to fly under the GI Bill at Maine Instrument Flight School in 1947. He became a captain of Northeast Airlines and later Delta Airlines. After thirty-two years of flying, he retired as a captain of an L1011 jumbo jet based in Miami. Appointed by Governor Reed, he was chairman of the Maine Aeronautics Commission and was responsible for the expansion of the Portland International Jetport. He also served on the board of directors of the then Augusta General Hospital.
He enjoyed sailing and spent many years on Penobscot Bay, sailing from the Camden Yacht Club. He also enjoyed boating on Lake Cobbossecontee from early childhood all through his life, sharing that enjoyment with family and friends. An avid golfer and member of the Augusta Country Club, he could be seen playing with his regular foursome many times a week as well as with his wife and children. He was known for his putting, especially when money was involved. He was also a formidable card player, winning his last game of hearts against his children just before Christmas.
He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-five years Mary (Duke) Blouin; sons Terry Blouin and wife Kathleen Casasa of Portland, John Blouin and wife Cricket of Manchester and Paul Blouin and wife Linda of Augusta; daughters Barbara Jackson and husband Greg of Kennebunk and Charlotte Shaw and husband Jay of York; 12 grandchildren Ben, Kathryn, Hunter, Pierce, Peter, Kathleen, Jillian, Alex, Reid, Cole, Sam and Leslie.
Visiting hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 PM Monday January 6th at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant Street, Augusta. A funeral service will be at St. Marks Episcopal Church, 9 Summer Street, Augusta on Tuesday, January 7th at 2 PM.

AUGUSTA
Laura M. Breton – age 83, of Glenridge Drive and formerly of Riverside Mobile Home Park, died December 12, 2002 at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation & Nursing Care at Glenridge Drive after a long illness. She was born in St. Martin, P.Q., Canada on August 24, 1919 the daughter of Anselme Fontaine and Eva (Gregoire) Fontaine.
Mrs. Breton was a homemaker in her own home for most of her life, but had been employed by area shoe manufacturers for several years.
She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and the American Association of Retired Persons.
Mrs. Breton had five brothers and sisters and she was the last surviving member of her family.
Surviving is her husband of 65 years, Doria E. “Jimmy” Breton of Augusta; one son, Norman E. Breton and his wife Nancy of Augusta; one daughter, Joan Wood and her husband James of Boothbay Harbor; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
There are no public visiting hours scheduled. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:00 AM Monday, Dec. 16th at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Spring burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery. PITTSTON
Rowena M. Chadwick – age 88 of Nash Rd., died Tuesday, January 7, 2003 at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care at Graybirch Dr. following a long illness. She was born in Pittston on May 14, 1914, a daughter of Moody and Amy (Patriquin) Beckwith.
Mrs. Chadwick attended Pittston schools and was a member of Winter St. Baptist Church in Gardiner and Greater Grace Bible Church in Gorham.
She was a homemaker for most of her life and was active in the Pittston Fair Association, the Eastern Star of Dresden and the Merry Menders Sewing Club.
Mrs. Chadwick was pre-deceased by her husband, Lawrence J. Chadwick, Sr.; a brother, Walter Beckwith and a sister, Jeannie Beckwith.
She is survived by two sons, Lawrence J. Chadwick, Jr. and his wife Ann and Robert E. Chadwick, Sr. and his wife Shelley all of Pittston; a daughter, Theresa A. Foye of Pittston; three sisters, Florence Seigars of Bath, Alice Tillotson of Pittston and Leona Campbell of St. Petersburg, FL; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends may visit on Saturday, January 11th from 9-10 AM at the Winter St. Baptist Church, Winter St., Gardiner where a funeral service will be held at 10 AM with Pastor Bob White officiating. Burial will be in the spring at Pine Grove cemetery in Dresden.
