CHELSEA
Adelaide Webb Perry - age 87, of Ferry Road, died September 25, 2002 at Maine General Rehabilitation & Nursing Care at Glenridge Drive. She was a much loved resident of Maine General for more than three years. Adelaide was born in Caribou, Maine on October 22, 1914, the daughter of Ray and Mary (Gould) Brown. Her family included brother Cecil and sister Natalie and her twin sister Aletta.
Adelaide began her education in Caribou and studied business management at Burnette College in Boston. Mrs. Perry retired from Augusta Mental Health Institute after a 26 year career at AMHI. Mrs. Perry was a member of Green Street United Methodist Church of Augusta. She was active in the Bicentennial Singers, Order of Eastern Star and Maine State Retirees Association.
Her most cherished role in life and, in her view, her greatest contribution was mother and continual support for her four sons. She was the force which created, molded and cherished four men who, for the most part, have had a positive impact on the world. Not many could say that and there are many who knew and cherished her, and many who knew and cherished her sons, who would say "Thank you, Adelaide".
Among her surviving family are her husband of 60 years, James Perry of Chelsea; four sons, Jim and his wife Peggy of Stillwater, Minn., Kermit ("Kit") and his wife Brenda Sawyer of Chelsea, David of Gorham and Dick and his wife Rumiko of Steilacoom, Wash.; her sister, Natalie Nelson of Deerfield, Massachusetts; eight grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
At her request, there will be no public visitation. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

SIDNEY
Oakley C. Philbrick – age 88 of Shepard Rd., died Tuesday, July 16, 2002 at MaineGeneral Medical Center – Thayer Campus in Waterville following a long illness. He was born in Sidney on July 9, 1914 a son of Herbert H. and Winifred (Robinson) Philbrick.
Mr. Philbrick was a U. S. Army veteran, serving during World War II.
He had been employed by the State of Maine for over 15 years in the Liquor Commission and had previously owned and operated Oakley’s Auto body in Augusta.
Mr. Philbrick was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and was a former member of the Lions Club in Augusta.
He was a Registered Maine Guide and loved hunting and fishing.
Mr. Philbrick was pre-deceased by his wife of 62 years, Florence D. (Blouin) Philbrick and four brothers, Ray, Wendell, Daniel and Charles Philbrick.
He is survived by four nephews, Ray Philbrick of Sidney, Robert A. Philbrick of Sidney, Charles Philbrick of Massachusetts and Michael Philbrick of Sidney; a niece, Doris Brown of Augusta; a grandson, Jason N. Foster and his wife Brenda of Marlboro, MA; his companion and caregiver, Elisabeth Michaud and several cousins.
Relatives and friends may visit from 6-8 PM on Monday, July 22nd at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 9 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Western Ave., Augusta. Burial will be held at a later date at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Dr., Augusta.

WINTHROP
Horace Howell “Hoddy” Pierce – age 92, of Old Lewiston Road, formerly of Townsend Street and Pearl Street in Augusta, died Feb. 14, 2002 at Heritage Rehabilitation & Living Center after a long illness. He was born on Dec. 25, 1909 in Livermore Falls, Maine the son of Horace Arthur Pierce and Mary Ann (Howell) Pierce.
Mr. Pierce was a 1929 graduate of Cony High School of Augusta and had been employed by the Augusta School Department for 15 years, retiring in 1974. He was previously employed by Bates Manufacturing Co., Edwards Division for 30 years.
Hoddy was a member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church of Augusta, a life member of the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks, member of Cushnoc Senior Citizens and Maine State Retirees Association.
He was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Hoddy married Anita Cloutier on Oct. 14, 1939. She died on Aug. 15, 1984.
Surviving are two daughters, Joan P. Painter & her husband James of Winthrop and Wanita P. Meagher of Augusta; one sister, Mary L. Vigue of Augusta; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; three nieces and a nephew.
Visiting hours are 2-4 & 7-9 PM Sunday at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant Street, Augusta where members of the Augusta Elks Lodge are asked to meet at 7:30 PM Sunday to offer a prayer service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Monday at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Augusta. Spring burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Augusta. BANGOR
John D. Pinette – age 35 of Grove St., formerly known as Timothy R. Brooks of Main St., Readfield, died unexpectedly Thursday, July 25, 2002 at Eastern Maine Medical Center, Bangor. He was born in Augusta on May 10, 1967.
Mr. Pinette was a graduate of Maranacook High School.
He had been employed at the Big Apple in Waldoboro and was formerly employed at Burger King in Augusta.
Mr. Pinette was pre-deceased by his friend and long time companion, Leonard Pinette.
He is survived by his mother, Janice (Jensen) Brooks of Augusta; a brother, Michael G. Brooks of Augusta; two sisters, Debbie Bowman and Sherry Brooks and her husband Michael Lenko all of Augusta and several nieces, nephews and cousins including a special nephew, Shaun E. M. Brooks of Augusta.
There will be no public visiting hours. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
PORT ORANGE, FL
Jeannette Poisson – age 81 of Crane Point Dr., and formerly of Bangor, died Tuesday, August 13, 2002 at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach, FL. She was born in St. Quentin, Canada
on September 5, 1920 a daughter of Fortunat and Elizabeth (Bouchard) Guerrette.
She was a home maker for most of her life and was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Port Orange, was on the Our Lady of Hope Council of Catholic Woman and the Church’s Arts and Crafts group.
Mrs. Poisson is survived by her husband of 61 years, L. Paul Poisson of Port Orange, Fl; a son, Paul W. Poisson of Machias, ME; three daughters, Diane Gerrish of McKinney, TX, Louise Penta of Boston, MA and Dolores Harmon of Atlanta, GA; a brother, Armand Guerrette of Augusta, ME; four sisters, Dorothy Pelletier of Homosassa, FL, Vida Bourque of Winslow, ME, Theresa Michaud of Winslow, ME and Laurette Arbour of Augusta, ME; 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
There will be no public visiting hours in Maine. A committal service will be held on Wednesday, August 21st at 1 PM in the Chapel at the new Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta, ME.

AUGUSTA
Beatrice V. Pomerleau – age 86 of Northern Ave., and formerly of Washington St., died peacefully Friday, September 13, 2002 at her home following a brief illness with her family by her side. She was born in Augusta on August 30, 1916 a daughter of Ernest and Josephine (Poulin) Pare.
Mrs. Pomerleau had been a proud homemaker for most of her life. She had been employed by Hazzard Shoe Co. for many years and previously worked for Taylor Shoe and Hallowell Shoe Co.
Mrs. Pomerleau was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church.
She was a loving mother and grandmother, spending most of her life taking care of others. Her hobby was her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild.
Mrs. Pomerleau was pre-deceased by her husband, Arthur T. Pomerleau in 1979 and five sisters, Josephine LaVallee, Roselia Violette, Merilda Poulin, Mary Rose Fortin and Mary Blanche Burchell.
She is survived by two sons, Maurice Pomerleau and his wife Alberta of Sidney and Arthur “Sonny” Pomerleau and his wife Claire of Augusta; three daughters, Joan Gregoire and her husband Donald, Lorraine Doyon and her husband Val and Beatrice Tondreau and her husband Norman all of Augusta; three brothers, Alphonse Pare, Robert Pare and Paul Pare all of Augusta; 2 sisters, Rita Glidden of Vassalboro and Madeleine Sanborn of Augusta; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren a great-great-grandchild and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Augusta
Mrs. Marjorie A. Pray, 79, beloved wife of Waldo E. Pray of Famingdale died Monday at Maine Veterans Home in Augusta after a long illness.
Mrs. Pray, formerly of Portland and Cumberland Foreside, was born in Brighton, Mass. the daughter of Thomas J. and Margaret (MacDonough) Day on August 18, 1922.
The family lived in Newton Highlands and Qunicy, Mass., before returning to the Greater Boston area following her graduation from Qunicy High School.
Mrs. Pray and her husband moved to Portland following their marriage in 1946.
She was employed as a switchboard operator at the Guy Gannett newspaper in Portland where her husband was a member of the editorial department. She also served as cashier for the Portland Water District and later as a secretary at the First National Bank. In 1969 her husband joined the public relations services of Central Maine Power Co. and the family moved to Farmingdale.
Mrs. Pray was an active member of St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Gardiner and for many years served as a volunteer at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta. The Kennebec Valley Regional Health Agency honored Mrs. Pray in 1988 with an award for significant service to the community as a senior volunteer.
During W.W. II, Mrs. Pray was active in the USO in the Boston area where she met her husband who was an Army Air Corps cadet, training at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. They were married following his return from China at the end of W.W. II. They resided in Portland and South Portland before purchasing a home in Wildwood Park, Cumberland Foreside where the family lived until 1969.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Pray is survived by three daughters, Margo Ann Pfauser and her husband John of Sanford, Fla., Carol Brook and her husband Gregory of Midway Utah, and Walda Jean Gallant and her husband David of Westbrook; six grandchildren William Young of Winter Springs, Fla., Andrew Young of Houston, Tx., Jason Gallant of Long Beach, Ca., Meghan Gallant of Gilbert, Ariz., and Shauna and Christopher Brook of Madison, WI. Two great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons; a brother Alan Day of North Acton, Mass. and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held at the Plummer Funeral Home 16 Pleasant Street, Augusta, Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday morning at 10 from ST. Joseph’s Catholic Church Gardiner followed by Interment at the New Maine Veterans Memroial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.
CHELSEA
Marie Leona Sirois – age 71 of Hemlock Ridge Rd. died Tuesday, July 30, 2002 at her home after a long illness. She was born in St. Andre-de-Restigouche, a logging town on the southern part of the Gaspe Peninsula in the Province of Quebec, Canada on April 1, 1931 a daughter of Joseph and Marie Blanche (Lamontagne) Goupil.
Mrs. Sirois was a home maker for most of her life but had worked for 11 years at the Augusta Convalescent Center.
She was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church and was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne Society and St. Paul Cursillo’s.
Mrs. Sirois was pre-deceased by her husband of 42 years, Joseph P. Sirois; a son, Roland Sirois; two daughters, Blanch Sirois and Geneva Sky Raven and a sister, Patricia Goupil.
She is survived by four sons, Norman J. Sirois of Lebanon, Maurice Sirois of Chelsea, Raymond Sirois of Tennessee and Pierre Sirois of Augusta; seven daughters, Joanne Deschaine of Grand Isle, Reina Dennis of Gardiner, Therese Peasley of Pittston, Elizabeth Cote of Florida, Cecilia Taylor of Pittston, Bernadette Thibodeau of Dexter and Celine Goupil of Canada; a brother, Donald Goupil of Canada; four sisters, Sister Geneva Goupil, Julia Goupil, Gemma Goupil and Renee Goupil all of Canada; 30 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends may visit on Thursday, August 1st from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta where members of the Ladies of St. Anne Society are asked to meet at 3 PM and members of St. Paul Cursillo’s are asked to meet at 3:30 PM to offer prayers for their departed member. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 9 AM at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Northern Ave., Augusta.
Burial and committal prayers will follow in Holy Family Cemetery, Townsend Rd., Augusta.

ROME
Theresa P. Smith – age 72 of Rt. 27 passed away Sunday, July 7, 2002 quietly at home after a long and courageous battle with cancer with her husband of 51 years, Richard, by her side. Theresa was born in Augusta on October 5, 1929 the daughter of Wilfred and Lucienne (Giroux) Boucher.
She attended Augusta schools, graduated from Cony High School and has lived in Rome for the past 20 years.
Theresa loved the solitude and the beauty of the outdoors. One of her favorite places was her camp on Moosehead Lake where she shared many happy times with her family.
Theresa was pre-deceased by her only child, Francis D. “Frankie” Smith, who passed away tragically in an automobile accident in 1969 and by her father, Wilfred Boucher.
She is survived by her husband, Richard J. Smith of Rome; her mother, Lucienne (Giroux) Boucher of Augusta; three brothers, Harold Boucher and his wife Sandra, Vincent Boucher and his wife Linda and William Boucher all of Augusta; an aunt, Muriel Giroux of Augusta and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends may visit today from 2-4 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta where a funeral service will be held at 9 AM Tuesday. Burial will follow in Holy Family Cemetery, Townsend Rd., Augusta.
