James Richardson Jr.

James W. Richardson Jr., 79, of West Bath died Tuesday, July 24.
Born July 13, 1922 in East Holden, he was the son of James Willard and Pauline Maddocks Richardson. He grew up in Portland and graduated from Deering High School.
Mr. Richardson served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and in the Air National Guard during the Korean War.
For over 30 years he was employed by New England Telephone.
He had served as a selectman in West Bath and for many years on the West Bath Planning Board. He was active in the Parent Teacher Association and belonged to the Civil Air Patrol, CB Club, and Computer Club and the American Legion, Charles E. Sherman Post #36 in Boothbay.
He spent his winters in Venice, Florida. He loved camping and playing shuffleboard, winning a gold medal in shuffleboard competition in the Sarasota Senior "Games for Life" in 1999. He was interested in space and loved flying, having had a pilot's license for many years. and also enjoyed working with stained glass.
Survivors include his wife of almost 45 years, Elizabeth (Betty) Giles Richardson of West Bath; his mother, Pauline Maddocks Richardson of Westbrook; two daughters, Patricia Mac Neil and husband William of Sanford, and Jami Kelly and husband John of Biddeford; 6 grandchildren, Michael, Jami and Kristine Mac Neal of Sanford, and Stefan, Evan and Cieva Kelly of Biddeford; two brothers, Neal W. Richardson of Vero Beach, Fla., and Carl Richardson of Windham; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Sunday, July 29 at the Boothbay Playhouse in Boothbay.

Walter C. Ripley

Walter Cony Ripley, 95, of East Boothbay, a retired criminal investigator for the Maine Attorney General's Office who served under five Attorneys General for 20 years, died Friday, November 2 at Chase Point Assisted Living in Damariscotta, where he had lived for the past few months. He had formerly lived at Schooner Cove in Damariscotta, and was a longtime summer resident of Little River, East Boothbay and a native of Augusta. born in Augusta on September 4, 1906, he was the son of Edward Leeman and Alice Wellesley (Cony) Ripley, and was a graduate of both Cony High School and Kents Hill School.
Mr. Ripley was a partner in the Augusta Electrotype Foundary with his uncle, Winfred Jackson. At the start of World War II, Walter worked at the Todd Bath Shipyard in Portland.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was a SeaBee in the Pacific Theater.
He worked for the Maine State Unemployment Commission brief-ly, and then for the Maine Department of the Attorney General. He was past commodore of the former Augusta Yacht Club, and held his marine navigational license. He was an active volunteer for many years at the Boothbay Railway Village. Mr. Ripley had only been ill for the few days prior to his death.
His three wives all died previously: Edwina (Clare) Ripley, Ruby Snelling Ripley, and Olive (Flanagan) Fessenden Ripley. His son, Clare Edward Ripley of Sheepscot died in 1984.
Surviving are his daughter, Wilma (Ripley) Skaggs of Bardstown, Kentucky; his sister, Jane Ripley Morse of Augusta; his daughter-in-law, Beverly (Ripley) Sperry and husband Herbert of Newcastle; his step-daughter, Thelma (Snelling) Taylor of Richmond, Va.; his step daughter-in-law Joyce Peters Fessenden of Winthrop; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces.
At Mr. Ripley's specific request, no public service is planned, and Interment will be private. If desired, memorial gifts are suggested to the Boothbay Railway Village, P.O. Box 123, Boothbay, ME 04537.

Ernest F. Robinson

Ernest F. Robinson, 98, died Sunday, June 24 at Cove's Edge in Damariscotta.
Born September 8, 1902 in Lawrence, Mass., he was the son of Edward and Betsy Wildes Robinson. For the past 36 years he had been a resident of Boothbay Harbor.
Mr. Robinson worked for Bethlehem Steel until his retirement. For 17 years, he enjoyed winters in Florida with his second wife. He was married to Rosa Franz Robinson for many years until her death in 1981.
He was a charter member of the Coastal Club, a member of the Boothbay Baptist Church and a supporter of the Boothbay Region YMCA.
Survivors include his wife Helen Gaw Robinson of Boothbay Harbor; two daughters, Elizabeth Schloss of New York and Mary Becker of Minnesota; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 27 at the Boothbay Baptist Church with Rev. Dan McNutt officiating. Interment was in Evergreen cemetery in Kennebunk.

Ronald F. Roderick

Ronald F. Roderick
Ronald F. Roderick, 59, died Friday, April 13, at his home in Boothbay Harbor.
Born in Skowhegan on May 5, 1941, he was the son of Daniel and Violet Faye Corson Roderick.
Mr. Roderick grew up in Skowhegan and attended Skowhegan High School and the Rhode Island School of Design. He was a caretaker of summer homes in Boothbay Harbor. He enjoyed woodworking, art, sculpture and making boat models, swimming, boating and target shooting.
He was predeceased by his father, Daniel R. Roderick who died in May of 2000.
Survivors include his mother, Violet Faye Roderick of Boothbay Harbor; two sons, Rusty R. Roderick of Kennebunk, and Daniel R. and his wife Nancy Roderick of Brunswick; one daughter, Brandy Roderick of Jackman; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 21 at 11 a.m. at Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, 975 Wiscasset Road, P.O. Box 576, Boothbay, ME 04537 with Rev. Raymond Picard officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen cemetery immediately following.
Donations may be made to the Boothbay Region Ambulance Service, 11 Howard Street, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538 in his memory.

Millicent L. Roeder

Millicent Louise Roeder, 83, of Boothbay Harbor, died September 18 at St. Andrews Hospital.
Born in Brooklyn, New York on September 22, 1917, she was the daughter of David and Susan Fountain Palmquist.
She was a graduate of Sewankak High School in Floral Park, New York. Until 1955 she lived in Nassau County, New York, when she moved to Florida. After the death of her husband in 1982, she moved to Boothbay. She was a homemaker all her live and enjoyed cleaning her house.
While at St. Andrews Village she enjoyed talking to the young ladies and read every word of the Boothbay Register. She enjoyed the crossword game and Bingo at the Village.
Survivors include three sons, Robert G. Roeder of Baytown, Texas, Leslie D. Roeder of Richland, Washington, and Wayne W. Roeder of Anderson, South Carolina; two daughters, Margaret A. Roeder of Largo, Florida and Millie R. Brewer of Boothbay; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in Florida.

Kathleen R. Reed

Kathleen R. Reed, formerly of Edgecomb, died Thursday, December 14 at Winship Green Nursing Center in Bath.
Born in Wiscasset on June 6, 1912, she was the daughter of Everett G. and A. Frances (Dwelley) Brookings.
She attended Wiscasset schools and Morse High School in Bath. For many years she was employed as a traveling nurse for local doctors. During world War II, she was employed at Bath Iron Works. In 1945 she married Richard N. Reed. They lived in Boothbay Harbor where she opened their home as a guest house in the summers. In the 1970s they moved to Edgecomb where she ran garage sales every weekend in the summer months until 1991.
Mrs. Reed was a member of the Boothbay Harbor Methodist Church.
She was predeceased by her husband, Richard N. Reed, in 1991.
Survivors include one sister, Florence M. Connors of Wiscasset; one brother, E. Randall Brookings of Alna; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Frances B. Orr in 1996 and Dorothy H. Pendleton in 1998; and by one brother, Donald W. Brookings in 1948.
A funeral service was held Monday, December 18 at the Mayo & Daigle Funeral Home in Wiscasset, with Rev. Edgar Helms officiating. Burial followed in Ocean View cemetery in Boothbay.

Winona T. Rand

Winona T. Rand, 93 of Southport died peacefully May 26, 2001 at the home of a daughter in Boothbay Harbor.
Born in Orange, Massachusetts, on September 1, 1907, she was the daughter of William and Evangeline Taylor. She graduated from Orange High School and attended the Framingham Normal School.
Mrs. Rand married Roscoe E. Rand, raised a family of four children and worked outside the home most of her life. Her final employment was as a clerk at the Southport Post Office where she had worked many years.
Her hobbies included doing handiwork (quilting, rug braiding, knitting, crocheting, etc) and working in her flower gardens. She was also an avid reader. She attended Southport United Methodist Church and was an honorary member of the Southport Yacht Club.
In later years she made Christmas cookies and invited the great- grandchildren to her home for cookies and cocoa.
Mrs. Rand was predeceased by her husband, Roscoe; two brothers George Taylor and Merton Taylor; a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Barter; a son-in-law George Tibbetts and two grandsons, Edward Tibbetts and Thomas Rand.
Survivors include her four children, Barbara R. Tibbetts of Southport, Roscoe E. Rand, Jr. and his wife Valerie of London, Ontario, Kathleen R. Copland of Boothbay Harbor, and Rebecca R. Poulin and husband Antonio of Jackman; seven grandchildren, Barbara T. Danielson and Dusty Tibbetts both of Southport, Terry Powell of Sparta, Tennessee, Timothy Rand of Boothbay Harbor, Tamera Pitchford of Connecticut, Rebecca Owen of Boothbay and Dr. Nancy Merrill of Skowhegan; two sisters, Elsie Blanchard of West Springfield, Massachusetts and Eleanor Smith of North Hollywood, California; four brothers, Maurice Taylor of Southport, Everett Taylor of Athol, Massachusetts, Lloyd Taylor of Orange Massachusetts and Vernon Taylor of Marietta, Georgia; 14 great-grandchildren; five step-grand children; six great-great-grand-children; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at the Southport United Methodist Church on Saturday, June 2, 2001 at 11a.m. Rev. Dana Beth Wells-Goodwin will officiate.

C. Robert Ratigan

C. Robert Ratigan, 59, of Wiscasset, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 25 at Maine Medical Center.
Born in Lynn, Mass. on May 6, 1942, he was the son of J. Cedric and Priscilla Gaffney Ratigan. In 1960 he graduated from Saugus High School and from the University of Buffalo, N.Y., in 1964 with a degree in Business Administration.
On June 17, 1967, he married Susan P. Allen at the Second Congregational Church in Newcastle.
He entered the workforce as a buyer for Associated Grocers of Maine in South Gardiner. This was followed by 15 years at Gardiner Savings Institution, beginning as a loan officer. He then helped create and later managed the Wiscasset branch of the bank. He returned to the main office as Assistant Vice President.
In 1984, he opened Village Hardware on Water Street in Wiscasset, which he owned and operated for 12 years. After the store closed in 1996, he worked for Ames Supply in Wiscasset.
Mr. Ratigan was a member and former trustee of the First Congregational Church of Wiscasset. He was active in town affairs. He served on the Board of the Wiscasset Health Center as treasurer, chairman of the Appeals Board, trustee and the treasurer of the Wiscasset Public Library and a member and treasurer of the Wiscasset Fire Society, and member of the Wiscasset Yacht Club.
Mr. Ratigan served in the Coast Guard Reserve, and was a member of Bristol Masonic Lodge #74, A.F. & A.M., the Lodge Council Chapter of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, the Kora Temple Shrine in Lewiston, the Gardiner Rotary, Wiscasset Lions Club, and served on the Wiscasset Waterfront Committee.
He had a lifelong special love for Pemaquid Point and the coast of Maine, especially Muscongus Bay to Casco Bay. He greatly enjoyed boating in the Sheepscot River.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Susan Ratigan of Wiscasset; his mother, Priscilla Ratigan of Newcastle and Pemaquid; one daughter, Kerry E. Ratigan of Portland; one son, Kevin M. Ratigan of Ft. Collins, Colo.; one sister, Cynthia M. Ross of Lynnfield, Mass; two nephews, Paul L. Ross of Boston, Mass, and Jonathan C. Ross of Lowell, Mass.
A celebration of his life was held Saturday, September 29 at the First Congregational Church of Wiscasset and Interment at the New Harbor Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mr. Ratigan's name to the Camp Maintenance Fund at Pilgrim Lodge, 103 Pilgrim Lodge Lane, West Gardiner, ME 04345.
