Larry A. Robinson
1999-06-10

NORWAY - Larry A. Robinson, 51, died Sunday, June 6, 1999, at Stephens Memorial Hospital.

Born in West Stewartown, NH, on July 23, 1947, he was the son of the late Harry A. and Myrtie J. (Sheltry) Robinson.

He received his education from the Woodstock schools and graduated from Woodstock High School with the class of 1967.

He married the former Ivy Faulkner on May 4, 1968.

A member of the maintenance department at Bethel Furniture for over 40 years, Larry was a resident of Albany for 25 years, coming from Bethel.

An avid fisherman, he enjoyed many other outdoor activities, including hunting, wood crafting and motorcycle riding.

Besides his wife of 31 years, he is survived by a daughter Penny Smith of Andover; two sisters, Beverly Corriveau of Gilead and Judith Tyler of Tilton, NH; four brothers, John Harding of White Plains, MD, William of Albany, Thomas of Buckfield, and Peter of Harrison. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Cody and Cassidy.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 10 at 2 p.m. at the Greenleaf Funeral Home, 37 Vernon St., Bethel.

Private burial services will be held at the family's convenience. Those who wish may make donations in Larry's memory to the American Heart Association, Maine Affiliate, PO Box 346, Augusta, ME 04330-0346.

Winnifred E. Rogers
1999-07-29

Winnifred Ethel Rogers, 95, formerly of Lincoln, Massachusetts and Southport, died July 11 at the Walden Home in Concord, Massachusetts.

Born in Dorchester, Massachusetts on December 23, 1903, she was one of six daughters of the late John Hugh and Annie Haines Rogers.

For over 60 years the Rogers family resided at their year-round home ``Rogerlea" on Sandy Pond Road in Lincoln, and for more than 80 years the Rogers family has summered at their cottage ``Idlewild" on Strout Road, Southport Island.

For several years Miss Rogers was employed at the Lincoln, Massachusetts Post Office.

Survivors include two sisters, Evelyn Rogers of Lincoln and Southport, and Edith Rogers Miller of Dearborn, Michigan; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.

Anita C. Rogers
1998-05-14

SOUTH WOODSTOCK Memorial Services for Anita C. Rogers will be held on Saturday, May 16 at 3 p.m. at the Andrews Funeral Home, South Woodstock.

Interment will follow in the Wayside cemetery located in West Paris.

Bruce W. Rosenberg
1998-06-04

LEWISTON Bruce W. Rosenberg, 39, of Rosenberg Road, West Sumner, died Sunday, May 31, 1998, at Central Maine Medical Center, Lewiston, as a result of injuries sustained at his home. Mr. Rosenberg was born June 8, 1958, in Norway, the son of Eino and Beverly (Norton) Rosenberg, who survive him. He was educated in the South Paris schools, and graduated from Oxford Hills High School in 1977. A millwright by vocation, he had been associated with International Paper, Jay, in that capacity for the past 10 years. Prior to that he was associated with Rosenberg & Rosenberg, of South Paris, a logging company. Mr. Rosenberg was a member of the Hungry Hollow Snowmobile Club, and an avid fisherman. He spent many hours fishing locally, as well as in the Chamberlain Lake area, off the coast of Maine, and King Salmon fishing in Alaska.

Besides his parents, he is survived by a daughter, Lindsey Renee Rosenberg, of West Paris; a sister, Shelley Rosenberg/Aboud, of Covington, KY; two brothers, Kevin, of Sumner and Randy of South Paris; his fiancee, Alison Libby, of West Sumner, and her children, Libby and Josh Foster of South Paris: a sister-in-law: Debbie Rosenberg; and four nieces, Tara, Tanya, Tami, and Sara.

Funeral services will be held at the Paris Hill Baptist Church, Thursday, June 4 at 1 p.m. Interment will be in the Forbes Cemetery, West Paris. Friends who wish may memorial contributions in Bruce's memory to: Make-A-Wish Foundation of Maine, 126 Mystic Ave. Rockport, ME 04856. Andrews Funeral Home, Bryant Pond, is in charge of arrangements.

Rosenberg services
1998-06-11

Funeral services for Bruce W. Rosenberg, 39, of Rosenberg Road, West Sumner were held Thursday afternoon at the Paris Hill Baptist Church, with Reverend Russell Lane officiating. Interment was in the Forbes Cemetery. Serving as bearers were Jim Russell, Paul Hucksam, Rick Allen, Frank A. Damon, III, Ryan P. Jack and Barry L. Norton. Arrangements were under the care of the Andrews Funeral Home.

Officer Robert A. Ross
1999-05-06

SOUTH PARIS - Officer Robert A. Ross, who was retired from the Rumford Police Department, 88, died Tuesday, May 4, 1999, at the Maine Veterans' Home in South Paris, where he had lived the past two years. He was a lifelong resident of the Rumford area.

He was born in Rumford on August 8, 1910, the son of Alfred and Sadie (Ayotte) Ross, and had attended Rumford schools.

During WWII he served as an Army Sgt. With the 677th Port Company, 382th Port Battalion, from April 21, 1942 to Sept. 25, 1945, which included overseas duty in Tunisia, Algeria, French Motorco, Rome-Arno, Southern France, Naples, Foggia and the Rhineland.

He had served as a patrolman for the Rumford Police Department for over 25 years until retirement in 1970.

He was a communicant of St Athanasius-St John Church, a member of Napoleon Ouellette Post # 24, American Legion and a former member of the Rumford Maine lodge 862, B,P.O.E.; He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing,

He was married in Rumford, Maine on Nov. 15, 1941 to the late Julia Murphy who died in Rumford, on Dec. 3,1977.

Survivors include a daughter Mrs Richard (Patricia) Bernard of Portland; two sons Robert A. and his wife, Joyce, Ross, Jr., USAF Retired of Groton, N.Y., Alex E. and his wife, Annete, Ross of Rumford, Me.; five grandchildren, David and Ann Bernard of Portland, Alex E. Ross, Jr. of Broomfield, Colorado, Chris and Jason Ross of Rumford.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, May7 at St Athanasius-St. John Church, Rumford. Interment will be in St John Cemetery, Rumford.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 6, at the Meader & Son Funeral Home. 3 Franklin St, Rumford. Donations may be made to the Maine Veterans' Home, 477 High St., South Paris, Me. 04281 in his memory.

Visitation at 7 p.m. Thursday of the American Legion, VFW, DAV, Posts and Auxiliaries.

Elsie E. Rowe
1998-09-24

SOUTH PARIS - Elsie E. Rowe, 92, of Oxford died Thursday September 17, 1998, at the Market Square Health Care Facility in South Paris.

She was born in Greenwood on December 26, 1905, the daughter of Daniel and Sadie Smith Paine. She was educated in Greenwood and Oxford schools. She had been a home maker and had lived in the Oxford area most of her life. She married Elmer Rowe who died in August of 1987.

She is survived by one son ,Stanley Rowe of Oxford; two daughters, Irene Kimball and Nellie Pike both of Oxford; a sister, Bertha Johson of Oxford; numerous grandchildren, as well as great and great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Fred Rowe, in 1986.

Graveside services were held Saturday September 19, at the Riverside Annex cemetery in South Paris. Donations in Mrs. Rowe's memory may be sent to the Oxford-Otisfield Rescue PO Box 173 Oxford, Maine 04270. Arrangements were under the direction of Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, Norway.

Jack A. Rowland
1999-02-18

RUMFORD - Jack A. Rowland, Jr., 29, died on Friday, February 12, 1999, following a long battle with cancer, at his home in Rumford with his mother and father at his side.

He was born in Norway on January 23, 1970, the son of Jack and Janice (Gautreau) Rowland.

Shortly after graduation from Rumford High School with the class of 1988, Jack enlisted in the Navy. He completed boot camp in Great Lakes, Illinois and fire fighting school in San Diego, California. He was then assigned to the USS Cape Cod in San Francisco, California.

After discharge from the Navy, Jack came home for a brief stay before heading west. He lived and worked in California, Colorado, Montana, Oregon, and Washington as a construction worker.

In April 1998, in Everett, Washington, Jack was diagnosed with cancer. He was treated with radiation and chemotherapy from May to September at Providence General Hospital in Everett, WA. In October he returned to Maine to be close to family and for continued treatment at Mercy Hospital in PORTLAND - and Mary Hitchcock Hospital in Lebanon, NH.

Jack was an accomplished skier and horseback rider. He loved music, animals, mountains and the outdoors.

He leaves behind many friends in Rumford and many more across the country. He was comforted by dear friends in the Rumford area (Tammy, Neva, Kenny and many others to numerous to list) and by two special friends, Dr. James Congdon and Ginger Long Alles of Everett, WA.

They stayed in touch and buoyed him through his long battle. He loved and was loved; he will be sorely missed.

Jack has a large extended family uncles, aunts, and cousins. He knew them all until the end and their visits, sympathy and support were deeply appreciated.

Surviving are his parents of Rumford; a step-father, Dwight Mills, of Rumford; three brothers, Jason Rowland and Dustin Mills, both of Rumford and Vincent Rowland of Haverhill, NH; a nephew, Tucker Rowland of Rumford, and his paternal grandfather, Mervin Rowland of Sumner. He is also survived by his step-grandparents, Lee and Mary Mills of Locke Mills.

His maternal grandparents, Fred and Irene Gautreau, and paternal grandmother, Fern Rowland, predeceased him.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, Feb. 14, at the Locke Mills Union Church. Officiating at the service were the Rev. Deborah Jenks and Ms. Linda Kimball. Serving as bearers were Carroll J. Gautreau, James Gautreau, Rick Thorton, Dwight L. Mills, Vincent Rowland, Jason S. Rowland, and Dustin Mills.

Those who wish may make donations in Jack's memory to their favorite charity.

Arrangements were under the care of Andrews Funeral Home, South Woodstock.

Arthur E. Roy
1998-12-17

ABINGTON, MA - Arthur E. Roy, 73, of Abington, MA, a retired truck driver, died Tuesday, December 8, 1998. at home after a lengthy illness.

He was the husband of the late Rachel A. (Newell) Roy.

Born in Norway, he was a graduate of Norway High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He received the Good Conduct Medal, American Theatre Campaign Ribbon and the European African-Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Ribbon. He had made his home in Abington for the past 45 years.

Prior to his retirement in 1988, Mr. Roy had been a truck driver for Andrews and Pierce of Abington and worked for Shaw's Supermarkets. He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local No. 653 and a life member of the Abington VFW Post 5737 and the Abington American Legion Post No. 112.

An avid golfer, he was a member of the Brockton Country Club.

He is survived by three daughters, Patricia A. McCarthy of Abington, Marie A. Roy of Riverview, FL and Pamela J. Rowell of North Weymouth; a sister Barbara R. Ward of East Hartford, CT; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday, December 11 at Quealy & Son Funeral Home in Abington. Burial was in the VA National cemetery in Bourne.

Elizabeth P. Russell
1998-10-08

Elizabeth "Betty" P. Russell, 75, died Oct. 2 at Midcoast Hospital, Brunswick.

She was born in Malden, Mass., a daughter of Robert F. and Dorothy Preston Boyd, and attended Melrose, Mass., schools.

After business school, she worked in Washington, D.C., where she met and married Winfield P. Russell.

After the war they lived mostly in New England, and for the past 25 years they made their home in Dresden, owing to the influence of her husband's early school years in Bath.

A happy homemaker, she was a busy correspondent with friends and relatives alike.

Mrs. Russell was also involved with the Dresden Historical Society.

Surviving are her husband of 55 years; two sons, Dana of Bath and Alan of Portland; a daughter, Jacqueline McKeen of Dresden; two brothers, Donald of Melrose and Kenneth of Reading, Mass.; three sisters, Louise Hollett of Newport, Ore., Mildred Farnsworth of Derry, NH, Robert Casper of Arlington, Mass.; and six grandchildren.

A funeral service was held Oct. 6 at the Days Ferry Congregational Church in Woolwich. Burial followed in Forest Hills cemetery with the Rev. Mr. Stanley Johnson officiating.

Arrangements are by the Kincer Funeral Home, Richmond.
