June E. Oakes

June E. Oakes, 84, of Boothbay died of cancer at her home on Wednesday, September 12, 2001.
She was born September 25, 1916 in Medway to John and Clara (Lee) York and graduated from Farmington Normal School in 1938.
She married Lawrence A. Oakes and together they raised five children.
Mrs. Oakes was an excellent seamstress who made most of her children's clothes and worked for a time for Campbell Built Products in Boothbay Harbor. From 1962 to 1970, she was employed by the state as a social worker and also helped her husband successfully establish Ace Well Drilling.
She was predeceased by her husband in August 1972, three sisters and one brother.
Survivors include three sons, Harvey and Larry of Boothbay, and Dwight of North Whitefield; two daughters, Norma Pearson and Mary Knapp of Boothbay; two sisters, Alma Butterfield of Florida and Becky Cole of Medway; two brothers, Howard York of Bangor and Kent York of Windham; 18 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held for the family at Evergreen cemetery in Boothbay.

Kenneth R. Orne

Kenneth Rice Orne, 80, died at his home in Boothbay Harbor on Wednesday, April 18 after a brief illness.
Born in East Boothbay on August 21, 1920, he was the son of Adelaide K. and Fred M. Orne At an early age he moved to Southport, attended local schools and graduated in 1938.
Mr. Orne worked at Sample's shipyard until 1941, when he and his "pal" Edwin (Wardy) McKown enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He graduated from Casey Jones School of Aeronautics in New Jersey and was stationed at Stewart Field, Newburg, New York, as an airplane mechanic.
On November 11, 1944 he married Jeannette Dodge.
From 1946 to 1959 he was employed by Silent Glow Oil Burner Co. in Hartford, Conn. as a purchasing agent. He later worked for United Aircraft - Hamilton Standard Division until his retirement in 1969. He and his family returned to Boothbay Harbor at that time and purchased Webster's Greenhouse, and renamed it Boothbay Region Greenhouses. He sold the greenhouse business in 1982 and bought the Harbor Motor Court which he sold in 1984. His love for gardening and landscaping kept him busy; he worked for Flagship Motor Inn and Boothbay Harbor Inn doing maintenance and gardening. He also worked seasonally with the East Boothbay Water District.
Mr. Orne had been an active member of the Harbor Chamber of Commerce and on the board of the Maine State Florist Association. He was a lifetime member of the Masonic Seaside Lodge #144 A.F. & A.M. and a member of the Southport United Methodist Church.
His parents and two brothers Clayton and Albert predeceased him.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Jeannette Dodge Orne; one son, Harold and daughter-in-law Lynn of Southport; one granddaughter, Andrea Jeannette Orne of Damariscotta; one sister, Grace of Brockton, Mass.; and five nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Southport Historical Society, P.O. Box 5, Southport, ME 04576 for landscaping in his memory, or to the Kno-Wal-Lin Home Health and Hospice, Route 1, Newcastle, ME 04553.
Visiting hours and a Masonic Service were held on Saturday, April 21 at Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home in Boothbay. A memorial service was held on Sunday, April 22 at the Southport United Methodist Church. A celebration of his life was held at the Southport Town Hall following the service.

Elsie J. Oulton

Elsie J. Oulton, 56, of Edgecomb died Sunday, April 1 at her home.
She was born August 5, 1944 in Mt. Holly, New Jersey, the daughter of Anthony and Helen Tonari Marinella.
She attended Mt. Holly schools. On January 5, 1963, she married Richard A. Oulton. Mr. and Mrs. Oulton moved to Maine after their marriage, moving to Edgecomb in 1968.
Mrs. Oulton was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with her family. She also enjoyed ceramics.
For many years, she served as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She was a former member of the Rebekahs, the Edgecomb Fire Department Auxiliary and was involved with Girl Scouts.
Surviving, besides her husband of Edgecomb, are two daughters, Elizabeth Berry of Wiscasset and Connie Oulton of North Yarmouth; two brothers, Anthony Marinella and his wife, Mary, of Burlington, New Jersey and William Marinella and his wife, Betsy, of Southampton, New Jersey; two sisters, Mrs. Robert (Florence) Stackhouse and Mrs. John (Helene) Fletcher, both of Mt. Holly, New Jersey; an aunt, Yolanda Roosevelt of Williamstown, New Jersey; and a granddaughter, Rachel Berry.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Alfred and Edward Marinella.
Visiting hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Mayo, Curtis & Hill Funeral Home, 819 High Street, Bath. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 7 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Lincoln Street, Bath. Interment will be later in the spring at Highland Cemetery, Edgecomb.
John "Jack" Oakland

John "Jack" Oakland, 72, died unexpectedly on March 19 at his home in Boothbay Harbor.
Born February 6, 1930 in East Providence, Rhode Island, he was the son of Lemyra and Lawrence Oakland. He was a graduate of East Providence High School and joined the U.S. Navy in 1948 serving our country through 1979. During his service he served on two minesweepers which were built at Sample's Shipyard in Boothbay Harbor. It was while stationed in Boothbay Harbor that he met and married Lorraine (nee Holmes). He was later stationed in California where the couple's first child, Patti Ann was born. Thereafter, they returned to Boothbay Harbor and raised their family which included Paul and Lynn.
Upon retirement from the Navy, Mr. Oakland worked as an auto mechanic in various garages. He was employed by Brewer's Boatyard, David Lovejoy, and as a pipefitter at Bath Iron Works. He also served with the Boothbay Harbor Police Department.
He was very active in the community coaching little league, umpiring local baseball and softball games. He was a charter member of the Boothbay Region Ambulance Service, Past Commander of the American Legion, and very active in other community services.
He was a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church and had served many terms on the Parish Council.
He married Sharron (nee Pinkham) Bennett in 1988.
He enjoyed camping, woodworking and carpentry and especially spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Lorraine (nee Holmes) Oakland; and one grandson John F. MacDonald.
Survivors include his wife, Sharron Oakland of Boothbay Harbor; two daughters, Patti Ann Bushnell of Bedford, Mass. and Lynn MacDonald of Standish; one son, Paul R. Oakland of Dresden; two stepsons, Larry Bennett of Boothbay Harbor and Scott Bennett of Boothbay; grandchildren, Matthew A. Bushnell of Bedford, Mass., Sara Bushnell of Bedford, Mass., Samantha Oakland of Dresden, Joseph MacDonald of Standish, Ryan Bennett of Boothbay Harbor and Scott Bennett of Boothbay; four brothers: Lawrence Oakland, Jr. of Riverside, Rhode Island, Joseph Oakland of Barnard, Vermont, Eugene Oakland of Palm Harbor, Florida and Richard Oakland of Connecticut; one sister: Margaret Veresko of Warwick, Rhode Island.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 23 at 2 p.m. at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 82 Atlantic Avenue, Boothbay Harbor. A graveside service was held in Evergreen Cemetery, Boothbay. A reception followed at the American Legion Hall on Industrial Park Road, Boothbay.

Luke R. Ouellette

Luke R. Ouellette, 22, of Boothbay Harbor, died Thursday morning, December 5 at Miles Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
The son of Gayle Tipa Ouellette and Ronald R. Ouellette, he was born May 13, 1980 in Brunswick.
He attended Boothbay Harbor schools and worked several years, both as a landscaper and more recently a carpenter, in this region. He loved being outdoors and working with his hands. He had a lifelong passion for fishing and four-wheeling.
Mr. Ouellette leaves his mother of Boothbay Harbor; his father of Caribou; his stepfather, Steve Doherty of Boothbay Harbor; two brothers, Daniel G. Bryer of Southport and Joshua Dylan Ouellette of Boothbay Harbor; and his paternal grandmother, Maryline Ouellette.
He was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Lois E. Tibbetts.
Calling hours were held at the Strong Funeral Home in Damariscotta on December 10 and 11.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the St. Mary's Hospital Addiction Rehab in Lewiston or Mercy Hospital Addiction Rehab in Portland, in Luke's memory.
Marjorie E. (Flanders) Oteri

Marjorie E. (Flanders) Oteri, of Gray, ME and Malden, MA. Wife of the late Charles P. Oteri, beloved mother of John J. Oteri and his wife Christine of Melrose, MA, and Stephen C. Oteri and his wife, Rebecca of Andover, MA. Grandmother of Matthew and Daniel Oteri, Timothy and John Oteri, passed away. She also leaves many close family and friends. Interment will be in the Village Cemetery, Gray, ME, on Saturday, April 26 at 11:00 A.M. Donations may be made to the Massachusetts Audubon Society, 208 South Great Road, Lincoln, MA 01773.
Duane M. Orne

Duane "Dane" M. Orne, 81, passed away Wednesday, December 3 at the Maine General Hospital in Waterville after a brief illness.
Born in Boothbay Harbor on March 23, 1922, he was the son of Everett C. Sr. and Daisy Hatt Orne.
As a young man Mr. Orne worked in the local shipyards. Later he worked for the U.S. Bureau of Commercial Fisheries at McKown Point, aboard the Phalarope and Rorqual. He worked at the NOAA under the Sea & Shores Fisheries Lab, retiring from the State of Maine Department of Marine Resources. After retiring, he pursued his lifetime career of lobster fishing in Linekin Bay and the surrounding Islands.
Mr. Orne enjoyed
hunting, fishing and sightseeing locally.
He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Lymon Orne and Everett Orne Jr.; and two sisters, Virginia Leavitt and Ruth "Tootie" Farmer.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Cynthia H. Orne of Boothbay Harbor; five children, Jane Orne Murphy and husband, Pat, of Wiscasset, Julie Orne Ricker and husband, Tom, of Augusta, Jean Orne Labbe and husband, Robert, of Westbrook, Joy Orne Andrews of Columbus, Ga., John C. Orne and wife, Cathy, of Edgecomb; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Saturday, December 6 at the Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home in Boothbay. Pastor Glen West officiated.

Patricia Ossenfort

Patricia Ossenfort passed away peacefully at the Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick Saturday, November 22.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts May 24, 1931, she was the daughter of Stanbrough and Berdina Wadsworth Fernald.
In 1949 she graduated from Beaver Country Day School in Massachusetts. She went on to Mary Washington College and then transferred to Ohio University graduating in 1953 with a degree in Liberal Arts.
For many years she worked in Boston in the advertising field.
On August 20, 1977 she married Walter Ossenfort and made their home in Boston.
After retiring, Mrs. Ossenfort moved to Brunswick and lived in the area for five years. In January 2000 she and her companion Dallas Edwards moved to Boothbay Harbor to be near family and friends. They lived at the St. Andrews Village .
Mrs. Ossenfort was elected President of the St. Andrews Village Book Club and assisted with the St. Andrew Monthly Newsletter. She was a member of the St. Columba's Episcopal Church in Boothbay.
A memorial service will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Newton's in Newton, Mass. Friday, December 5 at 2 p.m. with a burial following. A memorial service will be held at the St. Columba's Episcopal Church in Boothbay Saturday, December 6 at 1 p.m.
