ROBERTA CATHERINE ROY
DEXTER - Roberta Catherine Roy 70, passed away Feb. 2, 2000 at the Thayer Unit of Maine General Medical Center in Waterville after a brief illness. She was born September 15, 1929 in Dexter, the daughter of Thomas J. and Emily (Nash/Higgins) Johnson. She attended Dexter schools and was employed for many years as a switchboard operator by Bell Telephone Co. in Bingham. She also worked a number of years in production and in the offices of Colt Industries of Hartford, Conn. Since 1984 she was employed at the Dexter Motor Lodge. "Bertie" as she was known by her friends and coworkers, was a hard worker who always made time to listen and lend a helping hand. She had a special place in her heart for all animals, especially her faithful dog Sandy, and Jasper her cat. She took great pleasure in sharing with friends and family the simple, meaningful things of life. In addition to her parents Mrs. Roy was predeceased by her first husband, State Trooper Relsie R. Curtis, Jr. in 1964.

She is survived by her son, Michael R. Curtis and his wife, Wanda of Dexter, as well as two sisters, Lorraine Weeks of Dexter and Isabel Zamarchi and her husband, Anthony of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Also surviving are her granddaughter Michelle Fong her husband Tim, and a great-grandson, Tristan, all of Hope, as well as several nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Roberta's wishes there will be no funeral services or calling hours, however a celebration ofBertie's life will be announced at a future time. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a contributuion in her memory to the Bangor Humane Society, 693B Mt. Hope Ave. Bangor, ME 04401. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Dexter.

GRACE F. CLIFFORD
NEWPORT – Grace F. Clifford, 77, died February 1, 2000, at a Pittsfield hospital after a long illness. She was born March 3, 1922 at Sunderland, VT, the daughter of John and Grace (Russell) Frilley. She attended schools in Dalton, MA and graduated from Dalton High School, Class of 1940. On November 21, 1942, she married Lincoln M. Clifford in New Bern, NC. They moved to Maine with their family in 1956. She was a seamstress at Bangor Mental Health Institute and later served many years as the town clerk for the Town of Hermon. She was an accomplished seamstress, enjoyed many handcrafts, and was associated with the Pittsfield Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Grace and her husband camped and traveled throughout the United States and the Maritimes. She was predeceased by her parents and a son, Mark.

She is survived by her husband, Lincoln and her son and daughter-in-law, John E. and Myrna Clifford all of Newport; 2 grandsons, Alex Clifford of Palermo and Andrew Clifford of Newport; granddaughters, Jennifer A. Clifford of Waterville, Lisa Perry of Oakland and Cheri Smith of Topsham.

Friends may call 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, February 4th, at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 64 Main Street, Newport, where funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. with Elder Howard Larrabee, Sr. officiating. Spring Interment will be in the Pine Tree Cemetery, Hermon. Those who wish may make donations in Grace's memory to a charity of their choice.

ALBERT S. DEANE
MILLINOCKET; Albert S. Deane, 73, husband of Charlene (Rollins) Deane died January 28, 2000 in Titusville, Florida. He was born in Fort Fairfield, May 8, 1926, the son of Lena (Perin) Deane and Glenn Deane. Albert served in the Army in Europe during World War ll. He was a graduate of Guilford High School and Farmington State Teachers College in 1951. He did graduate work at the University of Maine in Orono receiving his Master and CAS degrees. He first taught in South Paris, Maine. Later he moved to Millinocket in 1952 where he taught until his retirement in 1986. During his many years in the classroom he taught History, Civics and Driver Education to several generations of Millinocket youth. He was a member of the Nollesemic Lodge of Masons, DAV, The Maine Education Association, The National Education Association and the First Congregational Church of Millinocket where he served for many years as a Deacon. In retirement he was active in the Katahdin Area Support Group and spent many hours volunteering at Manna in Bangor. His Halloween doughnuts and spaghetti suppers will be greatly missed by the children and adults of the community.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Charlene (Rollins) Deane of Millinocket, his mother Lena (Perin) Deane of Guilford, his mother-in-law Madeline (Bragdon) Rollins of Guilford, five sons, Steven P. Deane of Las Vegas, NV, Beric A. Deane, and wife Terry of Hampden, Terry L. Deane, and wife Gerry of Saegertown, PA, John D. Deane of Gardner, Jay P. Deane, and wife Mary of Carmel, two brothers, Austin Deane, and wife Diane of Guilford and Ronald Deane of Millinocket, six grandchildren, Geoffrey Deane of Bangor, Scott Deane of Saegertown,PA, Jared Deane and Gregory Deane of Gardner, Tristan Deane and Logan Deane of Hampden, and one great granddaughter , Morgan Deane of Hampden.

A memorial service will be held on Sat. Feb. 5th at the First Congregational Church, Millinocket at 2:00 p.m. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers contributions in Albert's memory may be made to the First Congregational Church Furnace Fund. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Guilford.

KAREN A. MCKENNEY
PORTLAND AND PARKMAN, Karen A. McKenney, 45, died unexpectedly at her home in Portland. She was born May 16, 1955 in Dexter daughter of Charles and Annie (Morrison) McKenney. She graduated from Baxter School for the deaf and worked for the Alzheimer's Society in Portland.

She is survived by her parents of Parkman; her twin brother Keith McKenney of Farmingdale; a brother and his wife Kyle and Wendy McKenney of Parkman; a sister Keisha McKenney of Parkman.

Graveside services will be held in the Spring at the Pingree Center cemetery in Parkman. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Guilford.

KENNETH WARREN MILES
GUILFORD, Kenneth Warren Miles, 75, died peacefully Friday, January 28, 2000 at a Bangor hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Orneville July 7, 1924, the son of Clifton and Gertrude (Hall) Miles, Sr. As a young man he graduated from East Corinth Academy in 1943 and attended Higgins Classical Institute. In 1945 he married Winifred Moulton, and for 54 years was her partner in life and deeply beloved husband. For more than 45 years he was a master carpenter and owner of K.W. Miles, Inc. Building Contractors. The many wonderful homes he built in the greater Guilford, Dover-Foxcroft, and surrounding Maine areas will be a long lasting memorial to his craftsmanship and attention to detail. He won numerous building awards and was a member of the Maine Home Builders Association for many years. An active member in the Valley Grange of Guilford for 25 years, he held a number of office positions and was a past Master. In his later years he found great joy as a tender and caring grandfather and great grandfather. His interests included a wide variety of craft projects such as making animal silhouettes from wood and reading western cowboy novels. A student of life, he loved learning and enjoyed topics as diverse as paleontology, archeology, and genealogy.

He is survived by his deeply devoted wife of 54 years, Winifred Miles of Guilford; a son, Dennis and his wife Shirley Miles from Yankton, South Dakota; a son, Steven Miles of Lisbon Falls; a daughter, Kenene Wintle of Manchester, N.H.; a son, Jerris Miles and his wife Glenda Iverson of Yankton, South Dakota; a son, Tallus and his wife Anita Miles of Lewiston; 14 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews.

All who have known him have drawn strength, love, courage, and wisdom from the example of his life. There will be a graveside memorial service at the Lawn cemetery in Guilford later in the spring for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations in his memory to Mayo Regional Hospital, 75 West Main St., Dover-Foxcroft, ME 04426. Arrangements by Crosby and Neal funeral home, Guilford.

RENIE J. MORROW
HAMLIN & LAC ETCHEMIN, QUEBEC – Renie Joseph Morrow, 74, died unexpectedly January 26, 2000 at a Bangor hospital while visiting in his home state of Maine. He was born September 11, 1925 at Hamlin, the son of Joseph and Marie (Doucette) Morrow. He served in the U. S. Marine Corps during World War II and was employed as an inspector with the U. S. Civil Service at Loring Air Force Base in Limestone for 31 years. He retired to Lac Etchemin, where he has resided for the past 14 years. Renie was a communicant of St. Germaine Parish. He volunteered his time freely for the church and community, especially caring for the elderly and handicapped. He entertained many as a one man band, playing his accordion and harmonica.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Margaret (Laplante) Morrow of Lac Etchemin, Quebec; 1 son, Phillip Morrow of Presque Isle; 6 daughters, Theresa Welch of IL, Janet Johnson of Mapleton, Stella Hislop of MT, Margaret Barnum of VA, Marie Andrle of Clifton, and Anne Morrow of Veazie; 4 brothers, Larry and Albert, both of Van Buren, Armand of Hamlin, and Richard of CT; 6 sisters, Janet Martin of Van Buren, Sandra Stone, Aurora Walsh, and Cecile Stanwood all of Florida, Rita Fleming of AZ, and Lorette Groote of NJ; 19 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren.

Friends may call 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. Wednesday at Roland Coutoure & Fils Funeral Home, 231 2nd Avenue, Lac Etchemin, Quebec. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 2:30 P.M. Thursday, February 3rd, at St. Germaine Catholic Church, LacEtchemin. Spring burial will be in the parish cemetery. Local arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Newport. Through the eyes of a grandson: " Grandpa knew everything, and he helped everyone!"

FLORA (JACKSON) NORRIS EMERY
PLYMOUTH & NEWPORT - Flora L. Emery, 83, died January 28, 2000 at a Pittsfield nursing home. She was born May 4, 1916 at Detroit the daughter of Erwin and Aurilla (Reynolds) Jackson. She was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Plymouth. She had been the proprietor of Norris General Store. Flora moved to Newport in 1995.

She is survived by 3 sons, Lewis and wife Lois Norris, Charles and Wife Blanche Norris, all of Plymouth, Linzy and Kristen Norris of Glenburn; 2 daughters, Janet and husband Melvin Waning of Dixmont, Kathleen Shorey of Hawthorne, Nevada; 23 grandchildren; many great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband, Roland Norris, her second husband, Spurlin Emery, and a daughter, Ermine Rines.

There will be no visiting hours. A spring burial and committal service will be held at the family lot, Sawyer Cemetery, Plymouth, with Rev. Robert Emrich Officiating. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Newport.

ROLAND E. STUART
NEWPORT – Roland E. Stuart, 81, died January 28, 2000 at a Pittsfield hospital after a long illness. He was born April 2, 1918 at Newport the son of Roland E. and Florence (Graves) Stuart. He graduated from Newport High School, Class of 1937. On October 28, 1939, he married Maxine Chambers. He was the father of 3 sons, Jon, Ronald and Wayne. Roland was a World War II veteran, entering the U. S. Army in 1944, serving in the Philippines and Japan with the AMERICAL division, returning home in 1946. He was a member of American Legion Post # 105 of Newport. Roland worked at several jobs in Newport. He retired from H. P. Hood Company in 1950. At that time the family started Stuart's Greenhouses and Florist Shop in Newport, which they owned for 25 years. Roland also taught woodworking at Newport High School. He was a member of High Street Congregational Church.

Mr. Stuart is survived by his wife of 60 years who lovingly cared for him throughout his illness. He is also survived by sons, Jon and wife Connie Stuart of Carmel, Wayne of Sangerville; grandchildren, Jennifer Stuart Pis of Miami, Florida, Aaron Stuart of Carmel, Nathan Stuart, U. S. Navy, Jacksonville, FL, Daniel Stuart, U. S. Army, Fort Hood, Texas; one great grandson, Andrew Pis of Miami, FL; a sister, Gail Stuart Wilson of Bangor; a daughter-in-law, Judith Stuart Bowden of Newport, as well as a family friend, Joseph Mancuso; several nephews, nieces and cousins. He was predeceased by a son, Ronald, in 1995.

A memorial service will be held 1 P.M. Sunday, January 30th, at High Street Congregational Church, with Pastor Al Worden officiating. For those wishing to do so, donations may be made in Roland's memory to the LANDSCAPING PROJECT, High Street Church, 16 High Street, Newport 04953. "He fought a Mighty Battle". Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Newport.

ROBERT E. COLBATH
CORINNA – Robert E. Colbath, 78, died January 26, 2000 at the Maine Veteran's Home in Bangor. He was born February 4, 1921 at Exeter the son of Ervin and Mabel (Ordway) Colbath. He was a Staff Sergeant in the Army during World War II. He retired as a metal fabricator from Fay-Scott Machine Shop in Dexter. He was a member of Pacific Lodge AF & AM, Exeter, the Order of The Eastern Star, NRA, and the VFW. An avid hunter and fisherman, he was also a life member of the North American Hunting Club.
He is survived by 3 children, Patricia Dority of Florida, Stephen Colbath of Levant, Dwight and wife Jolene Colbath of Corinna; the children's mother, Marjorie Colbath of Florida; one brother, Raymond Colbath of Portland; 2 sisters, Kathryn Hartwell of Stetson, and Joyce Bush of Hudson; 5 grandchildren, Michele Hewitt and husband Dennis, Mike Dority, Dwight Jr., Stephen Jr., and Jennifer Conway; 5 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his companion, Mildred Carson.
Friends may call at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Chapel, Exeter Road, Corinna, from 3-4 P.M. Sunday, where services will be held at 4 PM with Rev. Dianne Danielson officiating. Spring Interment will be in Chamberlain Cemetery, Exeter.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association, 122 State Street, Augusta,ME 04330. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral chapel.

WARREN A. FOSS
ATKINSON AND GUILFORD - Warren A. Foss, 86, the son of the late Charles A. Foss Sr. and Annie (Thayer) Foss, passed away on Jan. 26, 2000. He was born Sept. 5, 1913 in Dover-Foxcroft. Warren served in World War II from 1941-1945 serving two and a half years in the South Pacific. He was also a member of the Conner Trafton Post #119 in Guilford. He was self-employed most of his life as a woodsman in Guilford. He was predeceased by a brother, Everett T. Foss; sisters Evelyn Foss and Dorothy Dee.
He is survived by a sister, Martha Easley of Corinna and Zephyrhills, FL; Ruth Cantin of Lewiston; a brother, Charles A. Foss Jr. of Guilford; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Graveside services will be in the spring at the Gray cemetery in Dover-Foxcroft. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Guilford.

CLIFFORD E. HIGGINS, SR.
CORINNA – Clifford E. Higgins, Sr., 69, died January 27, 2000 after a long illness. He was born August 2, 1930 at Presque Isle the son of Clarence and Grace (Condon) Higgins. He served in the U. S. Marine Corps and had been employed as a weaver at Eastland Woolen Mill in Corinna. He was also a self-employed woodsman and vegetable farmer, selling fresh produce from his farm stand.

He is survived by one son, Clifford E. Higgins, Jr. of Corinna; 4 daughters, Jean Nelson of Hartland, Barbara Criss of Bangor, Wendy Bechard of Keene, NY, and Cheryl Curtis of St. Albans; a sister Hazel Howe of Palmer, MA; and a ½ brother, Richard Higgins of Hartland; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will also be remembered by special friends, Ralph and Mattie Woodbury, and Evelyn Reeks. He was predeceased by daughters, Carol Littlefield and Winonia "Muffy" Higgins.

At his request there will be no visiting hours or funeral services. Spring Interment will be in Morses Corner Cemetery, Corinna. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Chapel, Corinna.

BESSIE E. WORSTER
DEXTER, Bessie E. Worster, 92, died January 26, 2000 at a Dexter Health Care facility. She was born December 1, 1907 in Springfield, daughter of Howard and Daisy (Smith) Worster. She attended schools in Springfield and lived most of her life in Lincoln. She was predeceased by a son Kenneth in 1987 and her husband Erastus V. Worster in 1990. She attended Newport Full Gospel Church.

She is survived by a son, Cecil Worster of NH, a daughter and her husband, Lois and Cecil Reed of Dexter, a daughter-in-law Wynona Worster of NH; a brother, Vaughn Worster of Florida; a sister Frances Coleman of Bangor; nine grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Fri 6-8 PM at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main St, Dexter. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Sat at the Newport Full Gospel Church with Rev. Jeffrey Barker officiating. Spring burial will be in the Lincoln Cemetery.

NELLIE M. WASHBURN
DEXTER, Nellie M. Washburn, 77, died January 24, 2000 at a Dexter Health Care facility. She was born November 2, 1922, in Cambridge, daughter of George and Nellie (Duplissy) Davis. She attended Dexter Schools and was a member of the Charleston Pentecostal Church. She was predeceased by her husband Aimon P. Washburn.

She is survived by 2 sons and their wives, Lloyd and Madeline Washburn of Dexter and Wayne and Rose Washburn of Ripley; 3 daughters and their husbands, Joyce and Charles Getchell of Dexter, Ruth and Delbert Norsworthy of ipley and Elaine and Kenny Smith of E.Corinth; a step son and his wife Earlen and Shirley Washburn of Skowhegan; a sister Mary Rosenberg and a brother, George Davis both of Maryland; two half sisters of New Hampshire; eleven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She will be remembered by special friends, Sister Church, Gaylene Bean, Marilyn Storman and Germaine Poulin.

Friends may call Wednesday 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main Street, Dexter. Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. Ronald Libby officiating. Spring burial will be in the Chadbourne cemetery in Harmony.

RONALD R. FARMER
PLYMOUTH – Ronald R. Farmer, 68, died January 24, 2000 at a Pittsfield hospital. He was born October 21, 1931 at Lubec the son of Galen and Jane (Vantassel) Farmer. He was a self-employed carpenter, and had also worked for many years as a caretaker in Scarborough.

He is survived by one son, John and his wife Wanda Farmer of Plymouth; one brother, Norman Farmer of Orono; 5 sisters, Minnie Ross of Machias, Nina Rice of Campobello, Thelma O'Connell of California, Edna Cline of Calais, and Mildred Guthrie of New Hampshire; 5 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild. He will be sadly missed by his family. He was predeceased by brothers Almon and Sidney Farmer.

Funeral services will be held 1 P.M. Thursday, January 27th, at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 64 Main Street, Newport. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon until the time of services. Spring burial will be in the family lot, Sawyer Cemetery, Plymouth. The family would like to thank Healthreach Hospice for all that they have done to assist Ronald and his loved ones in his final days. Those wishing to do so may make donations in his memory to Healthreach Hospice, 212 Main Street, Waterville 04901.

GEORGIANNA L. HARTFORD
DEXTER – Georgianna L. Hartford, 93, wife of the late Chester L. Hartford, died January 22, 2000 at a Dexter healthcare facility. She was born March 19, 1906 at Providence, Rhode Island the daughter of Alexander and Emilia (Tremblay) LaBree. She moved to Presque Isle in her early years, where she met and married Chester in May, 1921. The couple moved to Dexter shortly thereafter. She was a communicant of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Dexter, and was also a member of St. Anne's Guild and the Daughters of Isabella. Georgianna was a member of the Dexter Golden Age Club, AARP, and the Dexter Grange. She spent many years raising and nurturing dogs and cats at her Gould Avenue kennels. Her animals went to homes throughout the State and beyond. She also enjoyed gardening and caring for her home.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by 5 brothers, Auriel, Leo, Lawrence, James, and Adrial; 3 sons, Lewis, Leo, and Roger; her sister Pearl; and son-in-law, Vincent Pisano. Her sister, Adeline Merrill died January 22, 2000 also.

She is survived by 4 sons, Chester and wife Joan of Garland, Arnold and wife Constance of Corinna, Ronald and wife Doris, and Arthur, all of Dexter; 1 daughter, Genevia Pisano of Brookfield, CT; 27 grandchildren; 59 great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be private. A Mass of Christian Burial for Georgianna and Adeline will be celebrated 10 A.M. Tuesday at St. Annes Church, Dexter, with Rev. George Beaudet officiating. Spring burial will be in the family lot, Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter.
