RUTH ELIZABETH STEWART
ST. PETERSBURG, FL, PITTSFIELD & ETNA – Ruth Elizabeth Stewart, 90, died February 19, 2000 at Carrington Place Rehabilitation and Nursing Home in St. Petersburg, Florida. She was born November 23, 1909 at Etna the daughter of Augustus and Minnie (Buzzell) Loud. She lived most of her life in Pittsfield.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Albert Stewart, her three children, Virginia Gniffke, Marion McCue and Frederick Stewart, and her sister, Marie Sedgwick.

She is survived by her second husband, Samuel Buzzell of St. Petersburg, Florida; her brother, Maynard Loud of Newport; a special niece Maggie Anders of St. Petersburg, Florida; 2 step-daughters, Maxine Finnemore of Newport, and Ethel Lishness of Pleasant Ridge; her daughter-in-law, Joyce Stewart of Otis and St. Petersburg, Florida; 14 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside committal services will be held in the spring at the Village Cemetery, Pittsfield, with Rev. Edward Jaworski officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the church of one's choice. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Newport.

MERLE W. BITHER, SR.
TROY & NEWPORT - Merle W. Bither, Sr., 83, died unexpectedly February 19, 2000 at his Route 9 residence in Troy. He was born January 25, 1917 at Linneus the son of James and Alta (Outhouse) Bither. He attended Linneus schools and moved to the central Maine area after marrying the former Maxine Bates. He was employed for many years at the Fred Ward farms in Thorndike. He retired in 1991 as the night boiler operator at the Ethan Allen plant in Burnham. He was a member of Harvest Moon Grange, a member of the Loyal Rebekahs, and Odd Fellows Lodge # 126.

He was predeceased by his wife Maxine, a son Gary, a brother Waldo, and sisters, Janis and Dorothy.

He is survived by 3 sons, Merle Bither, Jr. of Palmyra, David Bither of Jackson, and Chester Bither of Troy; a daughter, Janet Bither of East Wilton; 1 brother, Charles Bither of Reedsport, Oregon; 3 sisters, Emma Sanders of Houlton, Mildred Carlisle of Albany, La., and Hazel Emanuel of Shreveport, La.; 6 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call 6-8 P.M. Thursday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 64 Main Street, Newport, where funeral services will be held 1 P.M. Friday, February 25th , with the Rev. Elizabeth Sullivan officiating. Spring burial will be in the Village cemetery in Linneus. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Odd Fellows Lodge # 126, c/o Mr. Kenneth Clements, Monroe, ME 04951.

NANCY L. CHOLEWA
DETROIT – Nancy L. Cholewa, 58, died February 15, 2000 at a Pittsfield hospital. She was born January 3, 1942 at Norwich, CT the daughter of Wesley and Margaret (Salisbury) Webster. Nancy was a devoted and loving wife and mother.

She is survived by her husband, Stanley J. Cholewa of Detroit; 1 son Anthony Cholewa of Summerton, SC; 2 daughters, Linda McCarthy and Patricia Pearman, both of Detroit; 2 brothers, David Webster of Jewett City, CT, and Roger Webster of Slidell, LA; 3 sisters, Shirley Pattavina of Cromwell, CT, Barbara Holmes of Jewett City, CT, and Thelma Gatten of Clermont, FL; 5 grandchildren. She is remembered by other friends and relatives. She was also predeceased by a brother Arthur.

At her request, there will be no services at this time. Private services will be held in the spring. Donations may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, 52 Federal Street, Brunswick 04011. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Newport.

ALICE L. TODD
GUILFORD, Alice L. Todd, 88, died Feb. 12, 2000 at a Dover-Foxcroft nursing home. She was born Mar. 9, 1911 in Guilford, daughter of Oliver and Dianna (Brown) Russell. She was married to Glendon D. Todd on Apr. 12, 1928, who predeceased her in 1979. She devoted her life to raising her family.

She is survived by three sons, David Todd of Athens, Russell Todd and Andrew Todd both of Guilford; eight Daughters, Glendine Ward, Loretta Sanders and Vyrona Cowette all of Skowhegan, Lillian Lake of Augusta, Cecile Race of Dexter, Hope Waye of Benton, Dianna Davis of Parkman and Sylvia Cross of Guilford; 34 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two grandsons. Allen Ward and Cody Todd, a sister, Mildred McEwen, a half sister, Jane Kerr and a half brother James Ducette; two sons in law, Lea Ward and Pastor Donald Waye.

Friends may call Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 21 Oak St., Guilford. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Wednesday at the Funeral Home with Rev. Gerald Swetnam officiating. Spring burial will be in the Lawn cemetery in Guilford.

E. KENNETH ALBAUGH
NEWPORT – E. Kenneth Albaugh, 92, died February 11, 2000 at his Pleasant Street residence. He was born March 22, 1907 at Baltimore, Maryland, the son of Edward and Emma (Knott) Albaugh. He was an ordained Episcopal priest, a school teacher, a Licensed social worker and counselor, and had been a self-employed licensed electrician until 1998. He was a member of St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Palmyra, had been an Active Literacy volunteer and was a former member of the Newport Public Library board. He served on several boards for the Town of Newport and had been the town Code Enforcement Officer for many years. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all who knew him.

Ken is survived by his wife, Beatrice "Bea" (Folsom) Albaugh of Newport; 1 son Edward and his wife Jean Albaugh of S. Weymouth, Mass.; 1 daughter, Ruth Donaldson of Newport; 5 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; one great great grand-daughter. He was predeceased by a grandson, David McKenzie.

Funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Tuesday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 64 Main Street, Newport, with the Rev. Janet McAuley, Vicar of St. Martins Parish. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 A.M. until the time of services. Spring burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Newport. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Red Cross, Pine Tree Chapter, 12 Stillwater Avenue, Bangor 04401.

RAY H. ADAIR
PLYMOUTH – Ray H. Adair, 82, died February 10, 2000 at a Bangor healthcare facility. He was born January 7, 1918 at Cloverdale, New Brunswick, the son of Herbert And Annabelle (Crab) Adair. Ray retired from the Maine Department of Transportation In 1983.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian (Gustin) Adair of Plymouth; one child, daughter Constance and her husband Andrew Sanborn of Plymouth; 1 brother, Paul Adair of Fredericton, New Brunswick; 1 sister, Pearl McQuairrie of Hartland, New Brunswick; 3 grandchildren, Rob Sanborn, , Corey Sanborn, and Bethany Sanborn Thrift ; 4 great grandchildren; as well as several nephews and nieces.

Friends may call 6-8 P.M. Tuesday, February 15th, where funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Wednesday with The Rev. Ginger Walker officiating. Spring burial will be in the family lot, Sawyer Cemetery, Plymouth. Donations may be made to his memory to family or to the Abundant Life Church, 263 Texas Avenue, Bangor 04401.

RICHARD L. BITTNER
PALMYRA – Richard L. Bittner, 60, died unexpectedly February 10, 2000 at a Pittsfield hospital. He was born October 25, 1939 at New Haven, Connecticut, the son of Richard L. and Louise (Heenan) Bittner, Sr. He graduated from Guilford, CT High School and served in the U. S. Navy as a Machinist's Mate during the Bay of Pigs invasion off the coast of Cuba. He was a licensed Blacksmith. He also owned and operated a small engine sales and repair business on Route 2 in Palmyra. He and his wife also owned and operated Enchanted Valentine Gift Shop in Palmyra. At the time of his death, he was the machinist at CarQuest on Main Street in Bangor. He enjoyed woodworking, building and racing stock cars, motorcycles, mud racing and drag racing. He enjoyed his family and friends and was a member of the Grange since age 14. He was currently a member of Eastville Grange in East Newport.

He is survived by his wife, Mary (Frey) Bittner of Palmyra; his mother, Louise Bittner of Newport; 2 sons, Brett and Luke, both of Connecticut; 6 daughters, Beth Lombard of CT, Jill Bittner of Texas, April Stupak of New Hampshire, Renee Stupak and Carrie Stupak, both of Bangor, and Maralee Jernigan of Clifton; 11 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his father in 1982.

Funeral services for Richard Bittner will be held 10:30 A.M. Monday at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 64 Main Street, Newport, with Rev. Stephen Nute officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-8 P.M. Sunday. Donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

HAROLD E. SAWYER
RIPLEY & BROOKSVILLE, FLORIDA - Harold E. Sawyer, 69, died February 9, 2000 at a Brooksville, Florida hospital. A native of Ripley, he moved to Florida 4 years ago. He served in the U. S. Marine Corps and was a Korean War veteran. Harold retired from Dexter Shoe Company and was a member of the Ripley United Methodist Church. He was a devoted father and grandfather. He was predeceased by 3 brothers, Maurice, Ralph and Stanton Sawyer.

He is survived by his wife Alta, of Ripley and Brooksville, FL, a daughter Annette Sawyer of Arlington, MA, daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Tony Calkins of Stonington, CT, Lori and David Tweedie of Parkman; brothers Richard and Arnold Sawyer, both of Ripley; grandchildren, Matthew Calkins of Stonington, CT, Rose and Daniel Marsh of Arlington, MA, Ann, Meagan and Brianna Tweedie, all of Parkman.

Services will be held in Brooksville. A graveside committal Service will be held in the spring at the family lot, West Ripley Cemetery. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Newport.

ROBLEY E. FERNALD
EXETER—Robley "Bob" E. Fernald, 70, died unexpectedly February 5, 2000, at a Bangor hospital. He was born May 1, 1929 at Somerville, NJ, and was raised in Vineland, NJ, the son of Walter Everett and Sadie Ellen (Whiting) Fernald. Bob owned and operated his own construction company for 25 years and later worked as a machinist for General Electric Co. of Bangor, retiring in 1991 after 16 years. He served in the U. S. Army. He loved playing golf, spending time with family and friends and was a member of the Exeter Full Gospel Church.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Geraldine (Stevens) Fernald of Exeter; a daughter, Robin Broden of New Ipswich, NH; 2 sons, Robert Fernald of Hampden and Steven Fernald of Bangor; 7 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild.

Friends may call 7-9 P.M. Monday, February 7th, at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Chapel, Exeter Road, Corinna, where funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Tuesday with the Rev. Chris Faloon officiating. Spring Interment will be in the North Newport Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association, P. O. Box 346, Augusta, ME 04332-0346. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home.

JOSEPH W. TRUE
GARLAND – Joseph W. True, 75, died February 6, 2000 at a Pittsfield healthcare facility. He was born July 10, 1924 at Garland, the son of Joseph H. and Eva (Wallace) True. He was a resident of the Sebasticook Health Care Facility for 16 years. He was past chairman of the Resident's Council and participated in all activities and church services at the facility.

He is survived by 2 sisters, Gretchen True of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Charlotte Somers of Tucson, AZ. He was predeceased by 2 sisters, Wilda Robichaud and Jennie Miller and a brother, Benjamin True.

Friends may call 5-6 P.M. Tuesday, February 8th, at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 61 Main Street, Dexter, where funeral services will be held at 6 P.M. with Marc Willey officiating. Spring Interment will be in the Maplewood Cemetery, Garland. Memorial donations may be made to the Sebasticook Health Care Patient Activity Fund, 33 Leighton Street, Pittsfield, ME 04967.

FLORA L. THOMPSON
NEWPORT – Flora L. Thompson, 55, died February 3, 2000 at a Bangor hospital following a long illness. She was born June 12, 1944 at Calais the daughter of Ernest and Rita (DeChene) Geroux. She graduated from Woodland High School, Class of 1962. Flora was a communicant of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Pittsfield. She had been the cheerleading coach at Woodland High School and also at Nokomis Regional High in Newport. Flora will be remembered as an outdoors person, enjoying camping and traveling, especially spending time in Florida. She loved the camp on Big Indian, was very fond of animals, and was a talented bowler. Flora was an avid sports mom for Nokomis, following her children's athletic endeavors, her husband's coaching, and his Basketball, Soccer and Track teams. She served many years as a track official timing running events at Colby College, UMO, and regional state track meets for Nokomis, the Penquis League and the PVC. She was a devoted mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Richard M. Thompson, Sr. of Newport; her mother and step-father, Rita and Ronald Wallace of Baileyville; 2 sons, Richard, Jr. and his wife Rose Thompson of Glenburn, Gary and his wife Katherine Thompson of USAF, Texas; 2 daughters, Lisa and husband Rock Oliver of Lincoln, Vanessa and Gerry Lincoln of Dixmont; 1 brother, Robert and wife Maxine Geroux of Calais; 7 grandchildren, Amber & Noelle Lincoln, Zachary, Nathan and Nicholas Thompson, Hayleigh and Joel Oliver; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father Ernest Geroux, and a sister, Eda Chambers.

Friends may call 6-8 P.M. Sunday, February 6th, at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 64 Main Street, Newport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 A.M. Monday at St. Agnes Church, Pittsfield, with Rev. C. James Martel officiating. Burial will be in the spring. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 52 Federal Street, Brunswick 04011. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home.

BRIDGET RAE ANDERSON-BURKE
MONSON, Bridget Rae Anderson-Burke, 15, received her wings on Feb. 3, 2000 at Charles A. Dean Hospital in Greenville after an accidental shooting. She was born Jan. 5, 1985 in Bangor. She was a freshman at Foxcroft Academy in Dover-Foxcroft.

She is survived by her parents, Chris and Jason Smith of Monson and Danny and Dawn Anderson of Glenburn; three brothers Broc and Damean of Monson and Todd of Glenburn; grandparents; Carl and Gail Burke of Guilford, Stewart and Rose Smith of Monson, Mike and Linda Seger of E. Holden, Larry and Barbara Robinson of Surry, Donna Vainio of Guilford, Richard and Marilyn Coulombe of Old Town, great grandparents Les Andrews of Sangerville and Lucille Smith of Monson; aunts and uncles including a special aunt, Sandra Burke of Dover-Foxcroft and special friend Jesse.

Friends may call 6-9 PM Saturday at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Oak St., Guilford. A graveside service will be held in the spring at the Lakeroad cemetery in Monson. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Bridget Rae Anderson-Burke Angel Fund c/o Dexter Regional Federal Credit Union, Hudson Ave., Guilford.

JANE CHURCH
GUILFORD, Jane Church, 67, died Feb. 3, 2000 at a Bangor hospital. She was born Nov. 1, 1932 in Exeter RI, daughter of Claude and Mary (Pelchat) Thornley. She devoted her life to being a good wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband, Roland G. Church of Guilford; four daughters, Penny Nicholas of Conn., Sue Estes of Bangor, Bette and her husband Dick Carson of Guilford and Donna and her husband Ken Harmon of Abbot; a son Rusty Church of Guilford; two brothers, Tom and his wife Peg Thornley of RI and Richard and his wife Pam Thornley of Dover-Foxcroft; a sister, Dot and her husband Mark Getchell of Guilford; 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call 6-8 PM Sunday at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Oak St., Guilford. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Monday at the funeral home with Rev. David McLeish officiating. Spring burial will be in the Lawn cemetery in Guilford.

ANASTASIA M. HAMLIN
MILO - Anastasia M. Hamlin, 100, wife of the late Harry W. Hamlin, died Feb. 2, 2000, at a Millinocket hospital. She was born Feb. 22, 1899, in Albert City, New Brunswick, Canada, the daughter of Luke V. and Anastasia (Duffy) McNulty.

She is survived by a daughter, Geraldine McManus of Truro, Nova Scotia; four grandchildren, George E. Nelson of Millinocket, Roland M. Davis of Raymond, N.H., Dawn L. Burrell of Millinocket, Karen Awad of Kissimmee, Fla.; seven great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren; a niece, Ann Louise Oulton of Montreal, Quebec; a nephew, Vincent Duffy of Hopewellhill, New Brunswick. She was predeceased by a daughter, Irene Levensalor.

Friends are invited to call 3-5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at the Lary Funeral Home, Milo. Spring burial will be in the family lot in Evergreen Cemetery.
