Geoff Lucas
Geoff Lucas, 75, died at his home in Scarborough on Monday evening after losing a battle with cancer.
A Newcastle native, Lucas attended the University of Newcastle in England where he earned his degree in Accounting. He then continued his finance studies at the University of Glasgow in Scotland. After coming to America in 1960, he worked in Connecticut before relocating to Maine with his wife and family.
A resident of Scarborough for 33 years, he continued his finance work in the insurance industry and ventured into Real Estate by attaining his Brokers License in 1989. Lucas worked at Wright Express in South Portland for the past five years.
He enjoyed reading and relaxing with his family in Martha's Vineyard. He loved the ocean, and traveled extensively with his wife Ann around Casco Bay, Florida and Virgin Gorda. Ann Lucas, his wife of 42 years, died in November 2002.
Lucas is survived by three daughters, Heather Zachau of Freeport, Carolyn Lucas and Alison McLane both of Somerville, Mass.; four grandchildren; a brother, Eric of Garstang, England; a sister-in-law Hannah; and neices and nephews.
A memorial service was held on Jan. 8 at St. Luke's Cathedral in Portland.

SOUTHWEST HARBOR — George C. Hall, 70, died Feb. 6, 2007. He was born May 25, 1936, in Newcastle, the son of the late George Hall and Eunice Brown Gilley. George graduated in 1955 from Pemetic High School and then joined the U.S. Coastal Geodetic Services, now NOAA, and served two terms in the U.S. Army.

MOUNT DESERT — Dr. James Slater “Robin” Murphy of Deep River, Conn. and Seal Harbor, died Monday, Feb. 5, 2007 peacefully at his home in Deep River, after a long illness. Robin first came to Seal Harbor in June of 1921 at the age of two weeks aboard the JT Morse; he rarely missed a summer on Mount Desert thereafter, even managing a visit of a day or two during World War II while serving in the U.S. Army Chemical Corps.

MOUNT DESERT — Kenneth M. Taylor passed away peacefully Aug. 5, 2007, surrounded by his family. He was born Feb. 15, 1927, in Howland to Pearle C. Chambers and Kenneth Taylor, Sr. of Northeast Harbor. He served in the 29th Infantry Regiment in World War II and in France and Germany in 1945 and 1946. Kenneth was a 50-year member of the Union Local No. 716 Pipefitters/Welders and worked for several companies, retiring from Great Northern Paper Co. in Millinocket after 28 years.

BAR HARBOR — Helena Elaine Gott Higgins, 87, died Aug. 2, 2007 at a Hancock health care facility. She was born March 22, 1920 in Bar Harbor, the daughter of Clyde S. and Vivian (Webber) Gott. She attended Bar Harbor and Southwest Harbor schools and graduated from Pemetic High School and Becker College in Worcester, Mass. Helena worked for the Bar Harbor Public Health & Nursing Association for more than 20 years. She was a member of St. Savior’s Episcopal Church and was active in St. Anna’s Altar Guild.

BAR HARBOR — Marion Shiro Kirshenbaum, 94, died July 26, 2007, at her residence. She was born and grew up in Bar Harbor. After working for the federal government in Baltimore, she and her husband moved back to Bar Harbor where they did catering and baking. Her husband, Jack, worked at Jackson Laboratories and she served for many years as executive secretary to the superintendent of Acadia National Park, where she delighted in telling snowmobilers that the trails were closed.

MOUNT DESERT — Hollis B. “Hoddy” Grindle, 80, passed away on Feb. 6, 2008 at his residence. He was born in Somesville on Aug. 16, 1927 to Chester and Irene (Miles) Grindle. Hoddy worked as a caretaker on estates in Brookline, Mass. and Stamford, Conn. He had wonderful rose and vegetable gardens, and was a talented landscaper. He enjoyed a good story and had a great sense of humor. Hoddy was proud of being a Marine and shared stories of his time in the service. He spent many happy days deer
hunting
with his friends on Long Island in Blue Hill Bay. Hoddy loved woodworking and spent a lot of time in his shop when he retired to Maine. He enjoyed making an elaborate breakfast concoction every morning, and always was dismayed that no one would even try it.

TREMONT — Elizabeth “Beth” Lyons, of Bernard and Port Hood, Nova Scotia passed away peacefully at the Mount Desert Island Hospital in Bar Harbor on Feb. 11, 2008.
