She first came to Ocean Point in 1906 to stay at her grandparents' summer cottage on Shore Drive and later spent as much time as possible in her husband's family cottage which was one of the first summer cottages built by Anna's father-in-law, Elmer Newbert, who developed much of Ocean Point in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

Upon her graduation from Smith, she became an elementary school teacher in Philadelphia. Throughout her life she drew upon and put into practice her progressive philosophy regarding children's minds and their education.

When her father became ill with Parkinson's disease, Anna returned to her parents' home in Massachusetts to care for him until his death in 1946. She then married her childhood sweetheart, John Newbert, and they resided in Augusta and Ocean Point until his death in 1961. Anna was active throughout her life in various Unitarian churches and for many years has been an active member of the Midcoast Unitarian Universalist Fellowships in Edgecomb whose members she considered her extended family.
