Robert Peterson dies
Robert Edward Petersen, 72, died March 2, 2005.
He was born January 28, 1933, the son of Jens Edward and Clara Louise Hamilton Petersen. He attended local schools.
Mr. Petersen worked for Hansen's farm, the family bakery, "Petersen's Bakery", Table Top Pies and Thomas P. Beal's as a furniture maker.
He was a 23-year member of Gray Post #86 American Legion, a veteran of the Korean War, a 4H teacher for 25 years ands an active member of the New Gloucester Bible Church.
He married Beverly Irene Bragdon on October 25, 1952; they were married for over 50 years. She died in 2003.
He is survived by two sons, Brian Petersen and his wife Diane and Kevin Petersen and his wife Donna; two daughters, Holly Carroll and her companion Michael and Karen Jameson; eight grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; a brother, Peter Petersen; a sister, Dorothy Fortier and husband Fred.
A funeral was held last Saturday at the New Gloucester Bible Church. Committal will be in Gray Village Cemetery
in the spring. Pastor Dan Michaud officiated.

Robert E. Berry
Robert E. Berry, 65, died April 21, 1999 at his home.
He was born in Westbrook, a son of Everett W. and Dorotha L. Smith Berry, and graduated from Pennell Institute in 1952.
Mr. Berry owned Dry Mills Garage during the 1960s. He was an auto mechanic for 33 years at Casco Bay Ford. After his retirement, he became a lobsterman and built a lobster boat with his sons-in-law
He was an avid reader and history buff. He enjoyed
hunting, fishing, gardening and camping. He always helped his children through life's struggles and worked hard to create a happy home for his wife and children. He was loved by his children's spouses as if he was their own dad.
Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Mary Lockard Berry of Gray; four sons, R. Bruce of New Gloucester, Michael R. of Sabattus, Dennis A. of Gray and Scott D. of Gray; four daughters, Glenice A. Prosser of Cundy's Harbor, Jane D. Sherrer of Newport, N.C., Shirley L. Dempsey of Gray and Carolyn A. Martin of Portland; a brother; Albert E. Berry of New Gloucester; two sisters; Anne E. Bucklin of Windham and Judith I. Huff of Gray; 21 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Richard Scribner
Richard T. "Dick" Scribner, 75, of Totten Road in Gray, passed away quietly at his home early Thursday morning, April 8, 2004 following a brief illness.
He was born in Portland on November 30, 1928, the son of Everett Scribner and Florence Toye Whitney.
Dick attended Portland area schools, ending with Deering High School in 1945.
He worked at Rines Brothers and the American Can Company in Portland prior to serving as a military police officer with the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean War.
After returning home from the service in 1957, he started work as a landscaper around the Greater Portland area, and was well-known for his meticulous and beautiful work.
He was a member of the Eagles and the American Legion.
Richard is survived by his wife of nearly thirty years, Betty L. Brown Scribner, of Gray; his sons, Gary J. Scribner, of Gray, and Ricky Scribner Rhoades, of Iowa; his daughter, Sandra J. Scribner Merlim, of Westbrook; and two daughters from a previous marriage, Stephanie Camire, of Exeter, NH, and Nancy Brunet, of South Hampton, NH. He is also survived by four stepchildren:Sandra Spescha, of Windham; Caril Schultz, Satsuma, AL; Melissa Davis, of New York; and Frank Fillion, of South Portland. Also surviving are several grandchildren, including Wayne, Nicole, Tyler, Brandy, Derek, Mark and Jennifer; and two great-grandchildren, Laura and Brooke.
Richard will be sadly missed by all.
It was his request that there be no public funeral service.
Arrangements are under the guidance of Independent Death Care of Maine, Portland.
Robert Clark, former Councilor, passes away

Another of Gray's outstanding citizens has passed away.
Robert Clark, an active and well-loved member of the Gray community, died last Saturday at the age of 82.
Clark had been a member of the Gray Town Council, the Gray School Board, the M.S.A.D. 15 Board of Directors and Gray Water District. He had also been an Election Warden and a member of the Greater Portland Council of Governments.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ruth Barton Clark, of Gray; a son, James R. Clark, of New Gloucester; two daughters, Joan R. Fickett, of Gorham, Judith A. Hochstetler, of Groveland, MA; and three grandchildren, Brent Clark, Laurie Hochstetler and Andrew Hochstetler. A grandson, Adam Clark, died in 1988, and his sister, Ethel Bagley, died in 1992.
Richard Randall, Jr., dies
Richard A. Randall, Jr., 38, of Gray, died Sunday, January 22, 2006.
He was born August 3, 1967, in Portland, the son of Richard A. and Virginia Christian Randall.
He attended Gray-New Gloucester High School. Mr. Randall served in the U.S. Marines, and later the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve 1st Battalion 25th Marines, Topsham.
He was well-loved and respected by all family and friends. Always looking for ways to help, he loved all of them in return. Mr. Randall had a strong work ethic and worked for Castle Kitchens, Paul G. White Tile Co. and Rideout & Turner.
He loved fishing, ice fishing, mud runs,
hunting, four-wheeling, camping and snowmobiling. He was, in short, an all-round sportsman who especially loved going to camp in Greenville.
Mr. Randall married Chantelle York in 1990. He is survived by his wife, of Gray; a son, Travis J. Randall, of Naples; two daughters, Rachelle A. and Rianna S. Randall, both of Gray; his parents, Richard and Virginia Randall, Sr., of Gray; his grandparents, Llewellyn A. Randall, Sr., of Westbrook, and Wayne H. Ackerman, of Gray; a brother, William L. Randall, of Gray; sisters Deanna M. Randall, of Gray, and Jeanne A. Randall, of Strong; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Memorial donations may be made to the Maine Wildlife Park, 56 Game Farm Road, Gray, Maine 04039.

Richard Libby, 67
Richard Mellen Libby, 67, a retired data processor for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, died August 18, 2000 at a Lewiston Hospital. He was a longtime Gray resident.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, a son of Mellen Newman and Helen Grace Libby, he spent his childhood in the Washington, D.C., area, and graduated from Saint Johns College High School in 1951.
He served in the Coast Guard for four years as an electronics technician and attained the rank of petty officer first class, sailing on numerous ocean station weather patrols.
He served aboard several cutters, conducting international iceberg patrol, and also search and rescue missions in the North Atlantic within 100 miles of the North Pole.
Mr. Libby was employed by the Janscy and Bailey Engineering firm in Washington, until taking a job with NASA at the Goddard Space Flight Center at the Greenbelt Complex.
He worked as a data processing specialist for more than 26 years and was involved in all manned-flight missions, including Mercury, Gemini, Apollo and the space shuttle program, including the Challenger disaster in 1986.
Mr. Libby retired in 1986. He was a communicant of St. Gregory's Church for many years, serving as a camp counselor when he was a teenager. He was a member of the American Legion in Gray and was past secretary, treasurer and president of the Eagles in New Gloucester. Mr. Libby was a computer enthusiast who liked the challenge of all electrical equipment and toys.
Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Jean M. Libby, of Gray; two sons, Richard Michael of Northvale, NJ, and Joseph Patrick, of Germantown, MD; two daughters, Cynthia Jean Saunders, of Gray, and Jacqueline Renee Fields, of Germantown; 10 grandchildren; one brother, Francis N. Libby, of Royal, Arkansas; and one sister, Grace L. Herbert, of Port Townsend, Washington.
A funeral mass was held last Monday at St. Gregory's Church, Gray. Burial was in Gray Village Cemetery
and Monsignor Robert Lavoie officiated.
Richard Holden Chase
Richard Holden Chase, of Gray, who was born in 1919 in Stoneham, MA, died Monday, July 29, 2002 after a brief illness.
Mr. Chase is survived by his wife, Mary Crossman Chase; three children, Donald, of Gray and Londonderry, NH, Leslie Fumarola, of Gray, and Nancy Archibald, of Gray; three sisters, Virginia Newton, of Nantucket, Pauline Roos, of new London, NH, and Jeanne Knapton, of Hillsboro, NH; seven grandchildren, Richard Holden Chase II, of Gray, Sarah Archibald, of Gray, Dona Chase Herland, of Derry, NH, Thomas Fumarola, Jr., of Plympton, MA, Kristen Fumarola, of Greenfield, NH, Meredith Fumarola, of Plymouth, MA, Emanuel Archibald, of Farmington; and one great-granddaughter, Jamie Lynn Herland, of Derry, NH.
Mr. Chase celebrated his sixtieth wedding anniversary on July 4, with a large gathering of family and friends.
He joined the Navy during World War II, and served in the South Pacific as a Seabee at Bougainville, Guadalcanal and Okinawa. After the war, he moved his family back to Sharon, MA, where he was active as a Deacon in the Congregational Church and as a member of the Sharon Planning Board.
He worked for several major oil companies as an engineer. In 1971, he and his family moved to Maine when he became Manager of Citgo's deep-water terminal in south Portland. He continued in this capacity when Northeast Petroleum acquired the terminal in 1974 until his retirement in 1983.
A memorial service was held at the Congregational Church in Gray on Thursday.
