Ruby L. Hodgdon

Ruby Lee Hodgdon, 71, of Boothbay Harbor passed away Saturday, January 29 at St. Andrews Hospital after a long illness. born September 6, 1928 in Tazwell, Tennessee, she was the daughter of Grant and Varnie Burk.
Over the years Mrs. Hodgdon worked at the A&P Stores in Maryland, the Kroger Co. and Council on Aging in Florida.
On April 12, 1967, she married George H. Hodgdon in Rockville, Maryland where they resided until 1968. Then they moved to Ormond Beach, Florida where they lived until 1997. After retiring, they moved to Boothbay Harbor, Mr. Hodgdon's hometown.
Mrs. Hodgdon enjoyed being a homemaker and was a wonderful cook. She had a great love for children and animals. While living in Florida she spent a great deal of time sharing her love and kindness with elderly people working with the Council on Aging.
She was predeceased by a brother, Bill Burk of Rockville, Maryland.
Survivors include her husband, George H.; a son, Charles Edward Fawley of Gaithersburg, Maryland; a daughter, Sandra Marie Mader of Gaithersburg, Maryland; a stepdaughter, Beverly Vitale of Bradenton, Florida; a sister, Jeanette Taylor of Middletown, Maryland; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, February 3 at 10 a.m. at the Simmons, Harrington and Hall Funeral Home in Boothbay. Burial will be at the Oceanview cemetery in Boothbay.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Andrews Hospital or the Gregory Wing Nursing Home, St. Andrews Lane, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538.
Stella B. Hodgdon

Stella B. Hodgdon, 85, passed away Friday, November 28, at the Glen Ridge Nursing Home in Augusta.
Born in Edgecomb on April 9, 1918, she was the daughter of John and Lizzie Burnham. She grew up in Edgecomb and graduated from Lincoln Academy in 1936.
On March 17, 1937 she married A. Douglas Hodgdon and together while living in East Boothbay they raised their son John Hodgdon.
During World War II, Mrs. Hodgdon worked at the Rice Brothers Machine Shop in Boothbay Harbor. She also worked at the East Boothbay Post Office between 1944 and 1945. In 1950 Stella and her husband Douglas bought the store at the corner of Rt. 96 and Murray Hill Rd. and ran it as the Hodgdons Market until 1967. After closing the store together they bought the old East Boothbay Post Office and lived in the apartment overhead.
Mrs. Hodgdon was an active member of the East Boothbay Methodist Church for many years.
She is predeceased by her husband, A. Douglas Hodgdon, who passed away, in 1972.
Survivors include a son, John Hodgdon and wife, Judy, of East Boothbay; granddaughter, Melissa Hodgdon of Worcester, Mass.; and one sister, Mary Reeves of Boothbay Harbor.
A graveside service was held at the Evergreen cemetery Monday, December 1 in Boothbay with Al Roberts officiating.

Kathleen Hodgdon

Kathleen Hodgdon, 73, of Trevett, died Saturday, March 10 at Parkview Hospital in Brunswick.
Born September 22, 1927 on Barters Island, she was the daughter of M. Russell and Lucy Greenleaf MacInnis. She grew up and lived here most of her life.
In 1945 she graduated from Boothbay Harbor High School.
Mrs. Hodgdon worked in Connecticut for an insurance company. She loved to travel and follow her husband wherever he worked on construction in the Northeast. She helped her husband "Red" pack worms and run his worm business. She also picked shrimp at Robinson's Wharf in Southport and at Mill Cove in the 1970s. Lastly, she worked picking crabmeat.
She loved gardening, cooking, camping, snailing, fishing,
hunting, baseball, sports and most of all spending time with her family. She was also an avid reader.
She was predeceased by her husband, Philip H. "Red" Hodgdon who died in 1999 and by a sister, Susan Spearin.
Survivors include three sons, Eric and his wife Libby Hodgdon of Trevett, Jeff and his wife Rose Hodgdon of Trevett, and Jon and his wife Debra Hodgdon of Boothbay; a daughter, Stephanie and her husband Frank Wiley of Woolwich; her mother, Lucy MacInnis of Waldoboro; a sister, Colleen and her husband Louis Rego of Trevett; grandchildren, Sarah Hodgdon of Boothbay Harbor, Kate Hodgdon of Trevett, Angelica Hodgdon of Boothbay Harbor, Christopher Hodgdon of Trevett, Amanda, Nathaniel and Jacob Hodgdon, all of Boothbay, Patrick and Megan Wiley of Woolwich, Andrea Wiley of Minot, North Dakota and Gordon Wiley of Buxton; and several nieces and nephews.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date in the spring. Donations may be made in her memory to the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library. Arrangements are by Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home of Boothbay.
Eva L. Holbrook

Eva L. Holbrook, 100, died Oct. 21, 2002 at the J.M.L. Care Center in Falmouth, Mass.
She was the wife of the late Edward S. Holbrook who died in 1971. They had been married for 45 years. He had been the Treasurer for the Town of Holliston, Mass. and Mrs. Holbrook served as Assistant Treasurer.
Born in Northbridge, she was the daughter of the late Percy and Edith (Seaver) Houghton. She was a teacher in the public school system.
Mrs. Holbrook had been a member of the Order of Eastern Star Myrtle Chapter #33 in Holliston and active with the First Congregational Church of Holliston.
Following her retirement she moved to Boothbay Harbor for 20 years where she operated a rooming house and was a member of the Coastal Club. Mrs. Holbrook made her home with her daughter in Pocasset, Mass. since 1991.
She is survived by her daughters Sue Long and her husband Charles of Pocasset, Mass. and Jane Stratton of Yarmouthport, Mass.; 5 grandchildren, Burt, Betsy, Matthew, Debra and Kristin; and 17 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held Friday, Oct. 25 at 11:00 a.m. at the Chesmore Funeral Home, 854 Washington St., Route 16, Holliston, Mass. The Rev. Timothy Benson, pastor of the First Congregational Church of Holliston will officiate. Burial will follow in the family lot in Pine Grove cemetery in Northbridge. A calling hour will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the funeral service.

Tanna Smith Holden

Tanna Smith Holden, 53, of Pelham, N.H. died July 19, 2003 at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Mass.
She was the wife of Frank J. Holden who survives her and with whom she celebrated her twenty-second wedding anniversary on Aug. 17, 2002.
Born in Groton, Mass. on June 17, 1950, she was the daughter of Evelyn (Brown) Smith of East Boothbay.
A graduate of Lynnfield High School, she received her bachelor of arts degree from Green Mountain College in Vermont. Mrs. Holden continued her graduate studies at Endicott College.
She worked as a preschool teacher at the Merrimack Valley Montessori School in Salem, N.H. for many years. She was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Pelham and was also a member of SERRV.
Besides her husband and mother, she is survived by a son, Christopher S. Holden, a student at the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, and a daughter, Alissa Holden, a sophomore at Central Catholic High School, both of Pelham; a sister, Cheri Smith of Northwood, N.H.; two brothers, Rick Smith of Kettle Falls, Wash. and Glenn Smith and wife Beth of Blackstone, N.H.; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
A funeral service was held Wednesday, July 23 at the First Congregational Church of Pelham, followed by private burial.

Louis P. Holladay III

Louis Philippe Holladay III, 91, of West Boothbay Harbor died suddenly on Monday, December 15 at his home.
Born October 9, 1912 in Buffalo, N.Y., he was the son of Louis P. Holladay Jr. and Gertrude Beckwith Holladay. He was married to Julie Libby of South Portland and previously to the late Sally Ramsdell Moot, also of Buffalo, N.Y.
Mr. Holladay grew up in Chestnut Hill near Philadelphia, Penn. where he graduated from The Penn Charter School, excelling in both sports and academics. After graduating from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a degree in chemical engineering, he worked for 31 years at the E. I. DuPont DeNemours Company, Wilmington, Del. in the electrochemicals department. Upon his retirement in 1966, he and his former wife moved to Maine. Avid tennis players, bridge players and sailors, Lou and Sally established Holladay Marine to pass on their love of sailing to hundreds of unsuspecting landlubbers. The "Captain" loved to engage his protgs one-on-one with a "lobster pound" full of anecdotal stories and technology. Mr. Holladay established himself early on as an authority on sailing and navigation, beginning with family racing on the Chesapeake Bay and crewing as a navigator in the Newport to Bermuda Race for many years. He was also a certified instructor for the Wilmington Power Squadron. In Wilmington, he was co-founder and first president of the Skating Club of Wilmington and past president of the Wilmington Symphony for 10 years prior to its becoming the Delaware Symphony.
Survivors include his wife, Julie; his sister, Meredith H. Field of Wilmington, Del.; a half sister Letitia Reeves of Tumwater, Wash.; four children, Becky Dickinson and Louis P. Holladay IV, both of Wilmington, Del., Susan Righter of Buxton, N.C., and J. Breck Holladay of New Harbor; nine grandchildren, five great- grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
A gathering of friends and family will be held on Friday, January 2 at 1 p.m. in the library on Southport Island near his home. In addition, a memorial event will be held in Maine in the late spring to commemorate his life and that of his children's mother.

William M. Holman

William M. Holman, 63, died at his home in Madison, N.J. on October 20. He also had a home at Spruce Point in Boothbay Harbor.
Born in Springfield, Mass., he was the son of John and Susan Holman. He also lived in Wadsworth, Ohio and Chico, California during childhood, and later moved to Short Hills, N.J. He graduated Pingry class of 1957, then attended Lehigh University and New York University.
Mr. Holman was employed at C.J. Devine from 1959 to 1963, at Merrill Lynch in New York City, 1963 to 1980, at E.F. Hutton in N.Y.C., 1980 to 1987, at Nomura Securities in N.Y.C., 1987 to 1990, and at Langdon Ford Financial Group in East Hanover, N.J., 1990 to 2002.
He was a member of the Municipal Bond Club of New York and Sigma Phi fraternity.
Survivors include his wife, Jane (Steane) Holman of Madison, N.J.; his children, Christopher A. of Cambridge, Mass., Gordon M. of Portland, Andrew C. of Somerville, Mass., Whitney H. Bauer of Middletown, R.I., William M. Holman Jr. of Lake Forest, Ill., and Lindsey H. Swift of St. Louis, Mo.; his parents, John and Susan Holman of Maplewood, N.J.; a brother, John W. Holman Jr. of Oregon and New York City; nine grandchildren; and four nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held October 24 at the Chatham Township Presbyterian Church in Chatham Twp., N.J. Arrangements were by William A. Bradley and Son Funeral Home.

David M. Holmes

David Mitchell Holmes, 69, of Boothbay Harbor died Sunday, February 29 at St. Andrews Hospital.
Born February 9, 1935, he was the son of Faunce and Rena Thelma (Pennington) Holmes. He attended local schools and was a self-employed carpenter for many years.
He was predeceased by a brother, Samuel; a sister, Mary; and two granddaughters, Rebecca Lynn on September 8, 2000 and Meghan Nicole on January 21, 2003.
Survivors include his daughter, Rhonda Weymouth, and her husband Brian, of Manchester, N.H.; and his long-time companion, Evelyn Hyson of Boothbay Harbor.
At his request and the request of the family, there will be no funeral service.
Robert W. Holmes

Robert Wallace Holmes, 80, of Boothbay died Monday, February 4 in Portland.
Born September 20, 1921 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, he was the son of Thomas Wallace Holmes and Carrie Holmes of Elgin, Illinois.
He was a graduate of Elgin High School Class of 1939. In 1941, he enlisted as a cadet in the U.S. Naval
aviation Corp, and served in World War II and Korea as a Naval Aviator.
On Marcy 3, 1945, Mr. Holmes married Dorothy Anne Juby, in Elgin, Illinois, March 3, 1945.
Survived include his wife, Dorothy Holmes; two sons, Eric W. and Pamela Holmes of Ava, Illinois and Steven R. and Susan Holmes of Friscoe, Texas; and one grandson, Michael and Santana Holmes of Dallas, Texas.
He will have a sea burial.
