Leland W. Goodwin
1998-07-16

Leland W. Goodwin, 78, of Boothbay Harbor, formerly of Gill, Mass., died Monday, July 6 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Togus, Maine.

Born in Florence, Mass., he was the son of Francis Leroy and Gladys (Harriet) Goodwin.

He served in the Air Force during World War II and was a Pearl Harbor survivor.

Mr. Goodwin lived in Gill, Mass. for many years and in Boothbay Harbor the last 16 years where he was active in the American Legion and V.F.W. Most of his life he was self-employed in sales.

Survivors include a son, Scott Goodwin and his wife, Sarah, of Kent, Conn.; two sisters, Avid Jenkins of Bernardston, Mass. and Charlotte Hubbard of Windsor Locks, Conn.; and a grandson, James McMahon Goodwin.

A committal service was conducted in the Fr. Leonard LeClair Chapel of the Maine Veterans Memorial cemetery on Thursday, July 9. Burial followed in the Veterans Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the care of Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home in Augusta.

Courtney M. Gosline
1998-03-26

Courtney Michelle Gosline, 16, died at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta on Friday, March 20 after a one-car accident on Old Stage Road, Wiscasset.

She was the daughter of Nancy Bond Gosline and Phillip Gosline of Woolwich.

A junior at Wiscasset High School, she was interested in sports, photography and music and worked many summers at the Montsweag Flea Market in Woolwich.

She leaves her parents; a brother, Justyn Michael Gosline; her maternal grandmother, Alice Willard Bond of Wiscasset; her paternal grandmother, Lorena Sylvia, and her paternal great-grandmother, Lulu Weber, both of Westport, Massachusetts; paternal step-grandmother, Helen Gosline of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; three aunts, Carolyn Bond Davis of Lisbon Falls, Barbara Wallace of Westport, Mass., and Dee-Ann Chartier of Tacoma, Washington; and four cousins.

The funeral was held at the Wiscasset High School auditorium on Wednesday, March 25.

Burial will be at Grovers cemetery in Woolwich later this spring.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Courtney M. Gosline ER Fund at Gardiner Savings Bank, Wiscasset, or to the Coastal Humane Society.

Sandra M. Gouin
1998-06-04

NORWAY - Sandra M. Gouin, 51, of Norway died Monday, June 1, 1998, at her residence in Norway. She was born in Lewiston on December 24, 1946, the daughter of Ovila and Mildred Kimball Morrissette.

She was a graduate of Oxford Hills High School. She had worked as a waitress at Barjo's Restaurant and local shoe shops. She had lived in the Norway area most of her life.

She is survived by one son, Vaughn M. Gouin of Norway; one daughter, Angela Dawn Gouin of Oxford; one brother, Alfred of California; three grandchildren, Richard and Lexy Gouin and Carley Dodge, all of Oxford.

At the family's request there will be no funeral or visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, Norway.

Lawrence Gove, Sr.
1999-02-04

Lawrence Winfield Gove, Sr., 79, Whitefield, died Jan. 25 at Maine General Medical Center in Augusta.

He was born in Windsor, a son of Leslie W. and Eva Lowe Gove. He had lived in Whitefield for the past 17 years.

Mr. Gove was a second generation upholsterer for more than 50 years, following his father.

His hobbies included carving, cooking, and canvas painting and, in recent years, he was known as "Tacker" among his citizens band radio friends.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Simone Blouin Gove of North Whitefield; two daughters, Mrs. Dennis (Theresa) McKenney of Palermo and Mrs. Timothy (Shirley) Hopkins of Windsor; five sons, Robert Gove and Richard Gove, both of Windsor, Lawrence Gove, Jr. of Pittston, and Leroy Gove and Daniel Gove, both of Whitefield; two sisters, Shirley Varney of Windsor and Barbara Quirion of Waterville; two brothers, Lyle Gove of Orlando, Fla., and Sherwood Gove of Glastonbury, Conn.; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A service was held Jan. 28 at Gray and Pratt Funeral Home, Windsor; the Rev. Warner Howard officiated. Burial followed in Resthaven Cemetery, Windsor.

Elizabeth Gamage Gove
1999-06-24

Elizabeth Gamage Gove, 96, died June 18 at the home of her son, David Gove, in Shelbyville, Ky.

She was born April 22, 1903 in South Bristol to Everett and Elizabeth Poole Gamage.

She married Kenneth G. Gove of Boston, Mass., on June 12, 1926.

Mrs. Gove is survived by two sons, William Gove of Williamstown, Vt., and David Gove of Shelbyville, Ky.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Susanne C. Grady
1999-03-04

Susanne C. Grady, 25, died Feb. 11 at the Elizabeth Levinson Center in Bangor after an extended illness.

She was born May 21, 1973 in Augusta, the daughter of Randall and Sandra Lamb Grady. She attended the Mid State United Cerebral Palsy School, the Jefferson Village School, the Brewer Regional Program, and was a graduate of Bangor High School.

She was a member of the Corinth United Methodist Church.

Besides her parents of Charleston, she is survived by her maternal grandmother, Martha Lamb of Gardiner; her paternal grandparents, Errol and Joyce Clark of Jefferson; several aunts, uncles, and cousins, and a special friend, Pamela Shean of Vista, Cal. She was predeceased by her brother, James.

A memorial service was held March 2 at the Corinth United Methodist Church; the Rev. Michael Pike officiated. Arrangements were by Thompson Funeral home, Corinth.

Memorial donations may be made to Operation Liftoff of Maine, P.O. Box 201, Bangor 04402-0201.

Dolores B. Graham
1999-08-26

Dolores Betty Graham, 54, of Lewiston died at home surrounded by the love of her family on Aug. 15 after a long illness.

She was born March 15, 1945 in Vassalboro, daughter of Lawrence and Doris (McDaniel) French, and attended area schools.

Dolores was a wonderful lady to those who knew her well. Her sense of humor was ever-present even in times of sorrow. She was a homemaker most of her life who loved her crafts, reading and helping others. She will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered, by her family and many friends. She was predeceased by her mother in 1955.

Survivors include two daughters, Arlita Heikkinen of Augusta and Lisa Smedburg and husband Harry of Fairfield; two sons, Richard Witham Jr. and wife Bonnie of Augusta, and Edward Witham of Somerville; two sisters, Virginia Brann and husband Cecil of Somerville, and Patricia Parrett and husband Nick of Clinton, Md.; a brother, Laurice French of Somerville; her father, Lawrence French of Windsor; seven grandchildren; three nieces, five nephews and several cousins; her ex-husband and companion, Richard Witham Sr. of Lewiston; and two close friends, Fern Leslie of Mass. and Trudy Gerrier of Augusta.

At her request there will be no visiting hours or funeral service.

A small service to celebrate her life was held at Sand Hill cemetery Aug. 19, followed by burial. Arrangements were by Gray & Pratt Funeral Home in Windsor. Donations may be made in her name to Sand Hill cemetery Assn., c/o Virginia Brann, treasurer.

Harland Graham
1998-12-17

SOUTH PARIS - Harland Graham, 76, of Bridgton died Saturday December 12, 1998 at the Maine Veterans Home.

He was born in Bridgton on February 5, 1922, the son of Perley and Mable Tibbets Graham. He attended Bridgton schools.

He married Caroline Adams who predeceased him in 1959.

Mr. Graham proudly served our country during World War II in the Philippines. He also served in the Civilian Conservation Corps prior to World War II as well.

He worked as a self-employed mason for most of his life. He was a member of the American Legion in Naples. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Mr. Graham is survived by a daughter, Carol Bolduc of Auburn; a son, Perley Graham of Waterford; a brother, Clifton Graham of Gardiner; three grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

At the request of the family there are no services scheduled at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, Norway.

Eva E. Granger
1999-12-02

Eva Elizabeth (Giles) Granger, age 80, of Edgecomb, formerly of Mystic, Conn., died Friday, November 19 at the home of her daughter in Noank.

Born in Boothbay on September 8, 1919, she was the daughter of Winfield Eleazer Giles and Marion (Stover) Giles. Raised in Boothbay and Southport, she attended local schools and was a 1940 graduate of the former Farmington Normal School where she received her teaching degree.

Her distinguished teaching career in the Boothbay Public School System began in 1941, teaching kindergarten through 4th grade before she was assigned to 4th grade classes exclusively. She retired from teaching in 1963.

Later that year, she moved to Mystic where she operated a boarding house before returning to Maine upon her husband's retirement in 1978. She returned to the area to be closer to her children in July of 1998.

While a resident of Mystic, she was a communicant of St. Patrick Church where she served as Eucharistic Minister. In that capacity, she assisted with the Catholic masses at area convalescent centers. She was also a member of the St. Mary Frances Circle, Daughters of Isabella where she was instrumental in fund-raising activities. She was also a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Boothbay Harbor and the Retired Teachers of Maine Association. She was active with the Edgecomb Extension Group, and a former member of the Whaler's Camping Group, North America Family Camping Assn., and Good Sam. She also enjoyed gardening and the ocean.

On August 24, 1992, she married Francis Douglas Granger in Boothbay. Mr. Granger died in 1993.

Survivors include her daughter, Honore E. Feeney of Noank, with whom she recently made her home, and Helena "Tina" Biggins of Voluntown; a brother,

Irving Giles of Boothbay; a sister, Lillian Page of Wiscasset; three grandchildren, five step-grandchildren; two great-grand-children and five step-great-grand-children. She was predeceased by a brother, Philip Giles and a sister, Barbara Blackman.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Boothbay Harbor, on Saturday, December 4 at 11 a.m. Interment preceded in St. Patrick Cemetery, Old Mystic, Conn. Arrangements are by The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic. Memorial gifts in Mrs. Granger's memory may be made to the Eva E. Granger Scholarship Fund, (to be awarded to a Boothbay Harbor area graduating student pursuing an education in teaching), c/o Honore E. Feeney, 30 Elm Street South, Noank, CT 06340 or Hospice of Southeastern Connecticut, PO Box 902, Uncasville, CT 06382.

Alfred E. Granger
1998-07-09

Word has been received of the death of Alfred E. Granger of Cape Coral, Florida on April 1 of a stroke.

Born in Randolph, Mass. on October 22, 1928, he was the son of the late George and Eva Kelley Granger. He attended schools in East Boothbay and Boothbay Harbor.

He moved to Meriden, Conn. after a stint in the Marine Corps and moved to Cape Coral, Fla. after his retirement from the electric company.

Mr. Granger was an active member of the Catholic Church.

He was predeceased by seven brothers, George II, Lawrence, Francis, George III, Donald, Frederick and Thomas; and a sister, Lottie May.

Mr. Granger is survived by his wife, Joan; two sons, Alan Leonard and Gary George, all of Meriden, Conn.; one daughter, Linda, of Cape Coral, Fla.; two brothers, John James of Fremont, Calif. and Burton Paul of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; three sisters, Barbara Fossett and Florence Robinson of Boothbay Harbor and Lilla Courtney of San Antonio, Texas; one aunt, Martha Kelley Boudreau of Boothbay Harbor; two granddaughters; two grandsons; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was cremated and interned at Cape Coral, Fla.
