Mrs. Mary Arlette Bullis

MECHANIC FALLS - Mary Arlette Bullis, 82, of Mechanic Falls died peacefully Friday May 13, 2005, surrounded by all her loved ones at the Central Maine Medical Center.
She was born in Princeton on September 14, 1922, the daughter of Nathaniel and Amelia Beecher Densmore. She graduated from Princeton High School. During World War II, she was a spot welder in South Portland, where she met her husband, the late Donald G. Bullis. After the war, they were married in 1945. Mr. Bullis passed away in March of 2004.
Mrs. Bullis was always interested in music. She taught music in a Christian kindergarten in Milford, NH for several years. She gave private piano lessons upon moving to Mechanic Falls where she was involved in the music program for many years. She was also an active member of the Pleasant St. Baptist Church in Mechanic Falls. She also was a big part of the musical activities at the church.
She is survived by a son, Donald of Mechanic Falls; two grandsons, Ryon of Mechanic Falls and Daniel of Biddeford and several nieces and nephews.
There are no visiting hours scheduled. A funeral service was held Tuesday, May 17 at 1 p.m. in the Pleasant Street Baptist Church in Mechanic Falls. Interment will be at a later date in the Maine Veterans Cemetery in Augusta. Arrangements are under the direction of Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, 26 W. Dwinal St., Mechanic Falls.

Mr. Emery A. Taylor, Jr.

OXFORD - Emery A. Taylor, Jr., 75, of Oxford died Saturday, September 24 at Central Maine Medical Center. He was born in Oakland on April 9, 1930, the son of Emery A. Taylor, Sr. and Geraldine Swift Taylor Urquart. He graduated from high school in West Paris and took classes in waste water treatment operations. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving in the Korean Conflict, during the Vietnam War and retired after 20 years of service. He later ran an electronics shop in South Paris, worked at Stewart's Canning Co. in South Paris and retired from Ocean Spray in Massachusetts. He was a member of Paris Lodge #94 AF & AM. He loved camping and enjoyed golfing. He was on a bowling league in Massachusetts.
Mr. Taylor is survived by his wife, the former Marie Allen of Oxford; sons, James Taylor of Oxford, Daniel LaBrecque of Lakeville, MA and Gary A. Taylor of Austin, TX; a daughter, Yvette Taylor Lizotte of Oxford; a sister, Louise Flagg of Orange, MA; 10 grandchildren, Eric Taylor, Gary Lizotte, Michael Taylor, Chad Taylor, James Taylor, Jr., Samantha LaBrecque, Michelle LaBrecque, Daniel LaBrecque, Adrian LaBrecque and Maria Burkett and six great-grandchildren, Brittany and Aaron Yarborough and Ethan, Abby, Ashleigh and Kyle LaBrecque. He was predeceased by a son, Steven LaBrecque; a brother, Gerald Taylor and a sister, Eloise Edwards.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, September 29 at 1 p.m. at the Maine Veterans Cemetery in Augusta. Remembrance donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, 1 Main St., Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086. Arrangements are under the direction of Weston Chandler Funeral Home, 230 Main St., Norway.

Mrs. Sylvia Ring Knights

BRYANT POND - Sylvia Ring Knights, 68, died February 1, 2006 at home with her husband and family at her side. She was born in Rumford on July 5, 1937, the daughter of Merle Sr. and Ruby (Hodsdon) Ring.
She attended Woodstock schools and graduated from Gould Academy in 1956. She married Ansel Evans in 1957. She worked as a legal secretary at Whiting and Seguin in Rumford for many years before becoming interested in healthcare services. She helped establish Tri Town Rescue and volunteered as an EMT with them. She retired from Stephens Memorial Hospital where she had worked as a CAN for many years.
She married Clyde Knights in May of 1988. They greatly enjoyed camping and traveling and especially their winter home in Florida. She also enjoyed stamp collecting and doing family genealogical research on the internet.
Mrs. Knights is survived by her husband and best friend, Clyde; two sons, Andy and Robert; brother, Merle; stepchildren, Maryann, James and Valerie and numerous grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at Lakeside Cemetery, Bryant Pond in the spring.
Donations in her memory may be made to Tri Town Rescue Services, P.O. Box 275, West Paris, ME 04289.

Mr. George E. Currier, Jr.

SOUTH PARIS - George E. Currier, Jr., 74, of South Paris passed away Monday, June 12, 2006 at the Norway Rehabilitation and Living Center where he had resided for the past three years. He was born in North Norway on June 4, 1932, the son of George E. Currier, Sr. and Mammie M. (Cummings) Currier. He attended schools in North Norway. He worked many years for A. C. Lawrence Leather Co. in South Paris until the company closed, at which time he went to work for Poland Spring Bottling Co. driving forklift. He was employed there until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting, working with his steers and he never missed the Fryeburg Fair, but his true love was his wood pile. He spent many hours operating his beloved John Deere bulldozer pushing wood.
Mr. Currier is survived by two sons, David J. Currier, Sr. and his wife Vicki of Oxford and Patrick Hussey of West Paris; a daughter, Shari D. Whitman and her husband Toby of West Paris; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren with one more due to arrive shortly; a brother, Glen R. Currier and his wife Bonnie of Nevada and a sister, Marie Dyke and her husband Howard of North Norway. He was predeceased by his parents; two sisters and a daughter, Bonnie S. Henderson in 1993.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 17 at 1 p.m. at Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, 45 Main St., South Paris with interment to follow at Riverside Annex Cemetery in South Paris. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m.

Mrs. Verna R. Chadbourne

BRIDGTON - Verna R. Chadbourne, 75, of Bridgton, died on August 12, 2006 at the Maine Medical Center in Portland. She was born in Naples on November 21, 1930, the daughter of Albert and Addie (Meserve) Ridlon.
She was employed at Pleasant Mountain Moc in Bridgton for over 30 years before her retirement. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and reading. She was an avid NASCAR fan, especially Jeff Gordon. Her true joy in life was having her home always open for family and friends; she called her home the "free cafe" for everyone to come and enjoy coffee and homemade cookies.
Mrs. Chadbourne will be greatly missed by her surviving children, John Seavey, Jean Campbell, David Seavey, Janet Seavey, Janice Larson and Robert Seavey; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Raymond-Wentworth Funeral Home, 8 Elm Street, Bridgton on Thursday evening, August 17 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, August 18 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Norman Rust officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Hills Annex Cemetery, Bridgton.
The family suggests, for those who wish, donations in Mrs. Chadbourne's memory be made to the Kidney Foundation of Maine, P.O. Box 1134, Portland, ME 04104.

Mr. Leaton E. Sumner

GREENWOOD - Leaton E. Sumner died quietly Wednesday, September 20, 2006 at home with his family around him. He was born September 29, 1913 in South Paris, the son of Floyd and Minnie (Pike) Sumner. He was educated in West Paris Schools and worked as a mill worker most of his life.
Mr. Sumner is survived by two sisters, Madeline Violette and Rita Whichelow; 11 children, Samuel Sumner, Elisabeth Cadrette, Floyd Sumner, Lois Abbott, Leaton "Skip" Sumner Jr., Linda Wade, Kathleen Polley, Mary Jean Connell, Alrick Sumner, Susan Kemp and Viola Pierchorowicz, 31 grandchildren and 46 great- grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Myrtle Allen Sumner; two daughters, Barbara and Bertha Sumner and a brother, Richard Sumner.
Visiting hours were held at the Andrews Funeral Home, South Woodstock on Friday evening, September 22 from 6-8 p.m. Graveside funeral services were held at the North Paris Cemetery on Saturday, September 23 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Linda Kimball officiating.
Memorials in Mr. Sumner's memory are requested to either the American Cancer Society, Maine Division, Inc., 52 Federal Street, Brunswick, ME 04011 or to the American Diabetes Association, N.E. Division, 163 Lancaster St., Portland, ME 04101.

Mr. Dennis Raymond Swan

SOUTH PARIS - Dennis Raymond Swan, 80, of South Paris, died at Stephens Memorial Hospital on Sunday, November 26, 2006.
He was born in Greenwood on April 3, 1926, the son of Dennis and Lillian (Keen) Swan and was educated in local schools. He had worked as a boiler operator at Gilbert Manufacturing for many years and was a former Postmaster for the Town of Greenwood. He also had worked for "Pete" Andrews, manufacturing caskets.
He was a veteran of the Army serving during WWII, a member and former Post Commander of the American Legion in Locke Mills, a member of the Locke Mills Union Church and A.F. & A. M. and OES of Bryant Pond. He was a former Boy Scout leader, an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed camping and singing. He was especially fond of old time dancing and loved cats.
Mr. Swan is survived by his fiancee Sylvia Clark of Greenwood; five sons, Thomas Swan and his fiancee Susan of Manchester, Michael Swan of Lewiston, Steven Swan and his fiancee Gail Aiken of South Paris, Timothy Swan and his fiancee Shirley Parsons of Oxford and Dennis Swan of Sanford; five daughters, Sharon Frost and her husband Steve of Hampden, Dorothy Brown and her partner Paul Leathers of Auburn, Marjorie Bartlett and her husband Gary of Hanover, Julie Whitman and her husband Jim of Greenwood and Shellie Swan of West Paris; one sister, Louisa Noyes of Bryant Pond; 21 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Jerry Swan in 1979; one brother, Keenie Swan and one sister, Lelia McAllister.
At Mr. Swan's request, there will be no funeral services. Memorials in his memory may be made to the Locke Mills Union Church, Greenwood, ME 04255.

Mrs. Evelyn L. Mains

OTISFIELD - Evelyn L. Mains, 74, of Poplar Ridge Rd. died Monday morning, February 19, 2007 at the Bridgton Health Care Center after a battle with cancer.
She was born in Sebago on June 28, 1932, a daughter of Stanley and Victoria Skillings. She enjoyed flowers, hummingbirds, crafts, crocheting and her two dogs.
Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Reginald Mains; her three sons, Kenny Mains and Tina Smith of Leeds; Donald and his wife Joyce of Ossipee, NH and Larry Mains; her daughter, Janet Arris and her husband Robert of Sumner; her sister, Phyllis; four brothers, Milton, Ernest, Richard and Clifford and her four grandchildren whom she loved very much.
Visiting hours were held Wednesday at Hall Funeral Home, Casco where a funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 22.

Mr. Roger L. Swallow

KITTERY - Roger L. Swallow, 65, of Kittery died Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at Market Square Health Care Center in South Paris, where he had resided for the past two months.
He was born in Norway on April 30, 1941, the son of Perley and Arlene Tunney Swallow. He graduated from Paris High School in 1959 and went on to Portsmouth Naval Shipyard where he graduated from Apprentice school and worked as a pipefitter. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Following his tour of duty he returned to the Shipyard where he held an office job until his retirement at the age of 52. He worked at the shipyard for 34 years.
He loved camping and enjoyed children. He was a member and past president of the NAFCA, member and past president of the Pine Tree Chapter #33, and a member of the Palm Tree Chapter #27 in Florida. He was also a member of the '49ers and other chapters. He wintered in Florida and camped in Maine in the summer. He once belonged to a bowling league in Portsmouth, NH. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Mr. Swallow is survived by four sisters, Patricia Smart and husband Owen of Bridgton and Florida, Sharon Martel and her companion Norman Smith, Jr. of Oxford, Perlene Mecervier and her companion George May of South Paris and Nancy Kimball and her husband Don of Oxford. He was predeceased by his parents and a niece, Denise Mecervier.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 31 at 2 p.m. at Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, 45 Main St., South Paris with spring interment at Riverside Annex Cemetery in South Paris. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Donations in his memory may be given to a charity of your choice.
