Florence A. Ellsworth Brooks
1999-08-12

WINCHESTER, MA - Florence A. Ellsworth Brooks, 65, of Burlington, MA, formerly of Quincy, MA, died on Friday, August 6, at Winchester Hospital after a long illness.

She was born in Cambridge, MA, educated in Boston public schools, Girls High School, and was a graduate of Massachusetts State Teachers College, where she received her BA degree.

She was an elementary school teacher in the Cambridge public schools for 13 years and belonged to the Massachusetts Teachers Association. She had resided in Burlington for 30 years.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary A. Brooks of Burlington; a son, Albert Jr. and his wife Wendy of West Paris; a grandchild, Cordell J. of West Paris and a sister Mary Ellsworth of Quincy, MA.

She was predeceased by her husband Albert J. Brooks.

A funeral mass was celebrated at St. Margaret's Church in Burlington on Monday, August 9. Burial was at St. Joseph's cemetery in West Roxbury, MA.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Doyle-Lane Funeral Home in Burlington.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association of Middlesex County, 5 Mountain Road, Burlington, MA 01803.

Mrs. Erma P. Brewer
2000-02-10

LEWISTON - Erma P. Brewer, 77, of Poland Spring died Sunday morning, February 6, at Russell Park Manor.

She was born in Portland, on October 1,1922 the daughter of Virgil and Eva Morrill Libby.

She attended school in Poland and graduated from Mechanic Falls High School.

For 17 years she worked for New England Telephone as an operator in the Lewiston office.

Mrs. Brewer was a member of the Poland Community Church and when it reorganized in 1947, she was a charter member. She was a 60 year member of Sabbathday Lake Grange, Pomona, State and National Grange.

She enjoyed knitting afgans, socks, hats and mittens and playing crossword games.

On June 15,1957 she married Daniel Brewer who died September 19,1984.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Ken Brewer, of Poland Spring; a sister, Mildred Brainerd of Auburn; a granddaughter, Erin Brewer, of Poland Spring, one nephew and four nieces.

Mrs. Brewer was predeceased by a brother, Ralph Libby.

Visiting hours were held Tuesday at the Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, Mechanic Falls where a funeral was held Wednesday. Spring Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Poland.

Those who wish may make memorial gifts in her memory to Poland Community Church, Maine Street, Poland, ME 04274.

Rick Brickel
1999-05-27

Rick Brickel, 50, died Sunday, May 16 at his home in Brandon, Florida under the care of Lifepath Hospice, after a battle with lung cancer.

A native of Buffalo, N.Y. and born April 14, 1949, Mr. Brickel moved to Tampa from the Fort Lauderdale area in 1974.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Mary and Les Davis of Jensen Beach, Fla.; three brothers, Brian and wife Polly, Bob and wife Pat of Buffalo, N.Y. and Don and his partner, Gary Daniels of Eureka Springs, Ariz.; one sister, Becky and husband Joe of Buffalo, N.Y.; his life partner, Rick Dill, and adopted parents, Dick and Louise Dill of Southport.

A memorial service was held Saturday, May 22 at the Chapel at St. Joseph's Hospital.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lifepath Hospice, 3010 W. Azeele Street, Tampa, Fla. 33609.

Arrangement were by Florida Mortuary Funeral and Cremation Services.

A. Lee Bridges
1998-09-24

Arthur Lee Bridges, 69, of Boothbay Harbor died Wednesday, September 16 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Togus.

Born December 29, 1928 in Embden, he was the son of Vinal and Bertha (Lane) Bridges.

Mr. Bridges graduated from Bingham High School in 1947. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and graduated from leadership school. While in the Army, he was a guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Washington, D.C. He served in Korea as an artillery specialist on the front line. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Presidential Unit Emblem, National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal with Two Bronze Stars, United Nations Service Medal, and the Korean Presidential Unit Citation Badge.

After the Korean War Mr. Bridges became a Maine State Trooper for approximately two years, following which he drove for Greyhound Bus Lines for nearly 10 years.

In 1951, Lee married Jane Nixon of Madison.

He moved to El Segundo, Calif., and was employed in the security division of the Areo Space Corporation. In 1970 he came back to Maine and was employed as manager of Executive Airlines at the Waterville Airport.

His wife Jane (Nixon) Bridges died in April of 1970.

He married his second wife, Beatrice ``Bea" Hunnewell of Bingham, in November of 1970.

Executive Airlines went out of business in December of 1974, and Mr. Bridges became employed by United Airlines in California for approximately six years. In 1980 he moved to Geneseo Ill. and was employed with a travel agency and started his restaurant career. In 1985 he moved back to Maine and took over management of the Country Lodge Restaurant in Embden. He later became manager and chef of the West Harbor Resort in Boothbay Harbor, retiring in 1992.

Survivors include his wife, Bea E. Bridges of Boothbay Harbor; three children, Cathie Buechler of Geneseo, Ill., Gary Bridges of East Moline, Ill., and Neal Bridges of East Boothbay; six grandchildren, Justin, Jacob, Sarah, and Kalen Buechler, Robert and Jena Bridges; a brother, Vinal Bridges Jr. of Skowhegan; three sisters, Francine Barry of West Forks, Merlene Gourde of Solon, and Priscilla O'Neil of St. Louis, Mo.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 17 at Giberson Funeral Home on River Street in Bingham.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a memorial contribution to Togus VA-NHU #73, Building $207, Augusta, ME 04330. Attn. Coleen Friese.

Louise Briggs
1998-11-19

NORWAY - Louise Briggs, 90, of Buckfield died Sunday,November 15, at Stephens Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Buckfield,October 20,1908, the daughter of William H. and Myrtle F. Churchill Tucker. She attended school in Buckfield and married Gerald Briggs, February 10,1927; He died January 5,1981.

She was a homemaker and cared for her mother and mother-in-law during their final days. She crocheted baby jackets and booties for Harmony House and other companies. In her younger years, she enjoyed music and often played the piano. She always had plants and tended her vegetable and flower gardens. She attended the Paris-Hill Bible Church for many years.

Survivors include two sons, Glendon and his wife Muriel, Harley and his wife Laila, all of South Paris; three grandchildren, Stephen Briggs of Norway, Vivian Jean Glover of Hebron, and Beverly Gilpatric of Oxford; three great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Bertha Tucker, of West Paris and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, Ray, Harry and Nelson Tucker.

Funeral services were Wednesday at the Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, South Paris. Interment was in Riverside Annex Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial gifts in her name to Paris Hill Bible Church, 398 Paris Hill Road, South Paris or Buckfield Rescue.

Mason D. Brower
1998-07-09

Mason Darby Brower, 64, of Pratt's Island, Southport and Carversville, Penn., died peacefully in her sleep on Monday morning, July 6.

Born January 23, 1934 in Jacksonville, Florida, she was the daughter of James Barrington Darby and Hariet Dix Mason Darby.

Mrs. Brower attended Lee High School in Jacksonville and the University of Florida. She was married on December 15, 1956 to Frank Willard Brower Jr. in Jacksonville where they lived for 8 years. She was active in social work and as a Grey Lady at Duval Medical Center in the early years of her marriage. She moved to Bucks County, Penn. in 1965 where she raised her family and was active in charity work, youth activities, and the church at Trinity Episcopal in Solebury, Penn. For the past 10 years, she was the owner of Country Locations Unlimited, a company that offered unique properties for advertising photographic shoots.

Mrs. Brower started vacationing with her family in Maine in 1972. She and her husband bought their Pratt's Island home in 1992. She was active in church at All Saints By-The-Sea on Southport and at St. Andrews in Newcastle. A member of the Southport Yacht Club, the Southport Society, Round Top for the Arts, and Maine conservation groups, she devoted herself to her family, her friends and her garden.

Survivors include her husband, Frank Willard Brower Jr. of Pratt's Island and Carversville, Penn.; her four sons, Frank Willard Brower III of McKinney, Texas, Barrington Darby Brower of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, Hamilton Merrick Brower of New York City and Christopher Hilyard Brower of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; five grandsons; two granddaughters; a grandchild to be; a brother, Michael Darby of Lake Burton, Georgia; six nephews and nieces; her two dogs and two cats.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, July 18 at All Saints By-The-Sea on Southport at 10 a.m. with the Reverend David Anderson of Trinity Episcopal Church, Solebury, Penn. presiding. A second memorial service will be held in her home church in Pennsylvania in October at a time to be announced.

Memorial donations in Mrs. Brower's name may be made to the Phoenix Fund,Trinity Episcopal Church, Solebury, PA 18963; or to her favorite charity, AMFAR (American Foundation for AIDs Research), at 733 Third Ave., N.Y., N.Y. 10007.

Capt. Sherman Brown
1999-08-05

Captain Sherman C. Brown, 75, of Boothbay, died quietly at his home on Saturday, July 31.

Born in Stillwater, Maine, on October 4, 1923, he was the son of Walter and Velma Haskell Brown. He was a graduate of Bucksport High School and joined the Merchant Marines in 1943 and graduated from Kings Point Academy.

Capt. Brown raised his family and worked in Bucksport, he sailed for the next 28 years on tankers, supertankers and container ships, culminating his career as captain. He returned to his home in Boothbay where he lived for the next several years. He enjoyed shaping his land around him, as evidenced by the exposed ledges, large pond, many rock walls and the sweep of his rock garden. His love of music was expressed through his participation in the Boothbay Harbor Methodist Church Choir and local theatre group productions.

Capt. Brown was predeceased by his wife, Madeline ``Theo" Brown.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda B. Redman and her husband Frank of N. Charleston, South Carolina, and Jennifer L. Brown of Boothbay; one sister, Joanne Clough and her husband Harold of York; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends and relatives shared thoughts and memories of days past on Tuesday, August 3 at his Morrison Hill Farm home, Route 27 in Boothbay.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Boothbay Harbor Methodist Church Organ and Choir Fund, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538, or to Kno-Wal-Lin Hospice, 170 Pleasant Street, Rockland, ME 04841. Arrangements were by Simmons, Harrington & Hall, Route 27, Boothbay.

Robert S. Brown Sr., Peter E. Brown

Father And Son Graveside Memorial Service

A graveside memorial service will be held for Robert S. Brown Sr., who died December 6, 1997 and his son Peter E. Brown, who died in 1983, on Saturday, June 20 at 11 a.m. at Decker cemetery in Southport. Father Royal Parent will officiate.

Arrangements are by Simmons & Harrington Funeral Home.

Thomas E. Brown
1999-11-04

Thomas Ellis Brown, 37, of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Niantic, Conn., died Wednesday, October 27 in Columbus.

Born in Boothbay Harbor on July 19, 1962, he was the son of Eleanor Harrold Brown of Niantic and Dwight E. Brown of Beauford, North Carolina.

For the past seven years he has lived in Columbus. He was raised in Niantic and attended East Lyme High School. Mr. Brown was employed as a computer technician for Wang Global of Billerica, Mass. and was formerly employed at Norwich Plate Glass, in Conn., and Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics in Groton, Conn. He married Pamela Jean Abbott on December 23, 1993 in East Liberty, Ohio.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by a daughter, Katherine Brown of Niantic; a sister, Janet Brown of Niantic; and his maternal grandmother, Florence Harrold of Boothbay Harbor.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, November 2 at the Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, Lake Avenue, Niantic. Burial followed in Union Cemetery, Niantic.

Memorial donations may be made to East Lyme High School, Thomas E. Brown Scholarship Fund, Chesterfield Road, East Lyme, CT 06333.
