Leon P. Bean

NORWAY - Leon P. Bean, 63, died Monday, August 16, 1999 at his residence in Norway.
He was born on August 16, 1936 the son of Lawrence and Hattie Irish Bean.
He worked as a farmer for many years, also at Bear Paw Timber and retired from Pleasant Mt. Moc in Bridgton in 1985 due to ill health.
He married Joyce Harmon Johnson Poppell on March 21, 1987.
He is survived by his wife of Norway; two daughters, Tracey Noyes of Bryant Pond and Tammy McAllister of Harrison; two sons, Tony of Machias Port and James of Otisfield; two stepsons, Walter Bean of Oxford and George Poppell of Norway; two granddaughters; two grandsons; several step-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; five sisters, Pauline Norton of South Paris, Elsie Thompson of Bridgton, Mary Millett of Norway, Camilla Mowatt of Oxford, Florence Foss of Minot; one brother, Lyman Rogers of Norway.
He was predeceased by his mother and father; three brothers, James Richards, Perley Bean and Roswell Brown; three sisters, Phyllis Millett, Elizabeth Yeaton and Lillian Edwards.
Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, August 21, 1999 at 2 p.m. at the Elm Vale cemetery in South Waterford.
Arrangements are under the direction of Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, 230 Main St., Norway.
Nelson R. Beane

Nelson R. Beane, 57, of Whitefield, died unexpectedly Sunday, October 25 at his home.
Born in Augusta on September 25, 1941, he was the son of Alton F. Beane and Anita (Roy) Beane.
Mr. Beane was a 1959 graduate of Cony High School of Augusta. He was employed as meat manager of The Market Place in Boothbay Harbor for two years. He was also a self-employed meat cutter d.b.a. Beane's Custom Cutting in Whitefield for many years.
He was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church of Augusta, Eddington Salmon Club, a three-time member of the Pope & Young Club, National Bowhunters Association and the Sportsman's Alliance of Maine.
Survivors include his mother, Anita Beane of Augusta; one son, Dr. Paul Beane of Laguna Beach, Calif.; three daughters, Michelle Weymouth of Buxton, Suzanne M. Beane of Gardiner and Holly L. Carlezon of Columbia, Mo.; his companion, Carolyn A. Murray of Whitefield; three sisters, Delores S. DeMerchant of East Vassalboro, Gloria A. McGuire of Augusta and Linda Beane Nickerson of Windsor; three grandchildren; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 30 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Augusta. Memorial contributions may be made to the Nelson R. Beane Memorial Fund, c/o Michelle Weymouth, RR 1, Box 644 J, West Buxton, ME 04093. Arrangements are by Plummer Funeral Home in Augusta.
Avis Beardsley

LEWISTON - Avis Beardsley, 70, of West Paris died Thursday December 10, 1998, at the Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
She was born on October 31, 1928 the daughter of Lester and Marion Rand Enman. She had lived in Bethel in the thirties and attended local schools.
She later moved to Portland where she married Edwin W. Beardsley in 1953 and he died in 1988.
She was a well known waitress in the Portland area. During the early part of her courageous battle with cancer she still maintained a garden that was admired by many. In her garden she had many bird houses that filled her yard in Casco. Her faithful dog Goldie would always be at her side. Mrs. Beardsley will be remembered by the many children of Portland where her home was an open door and always a home cooked meal.
She had lived in the West Paris area with her daughter and son-in-law, Grace and Al Merrick.
She is survived by two daughters Grace F. Merrick of West Paris, and Merrianne (Beardsley) Pepin of Gray; four sons, Francis of South Portland, Edwin of Gray and twin sons, Mark of Kingman, Arizona, and Matthew of Norway, a sister, Norma Wood of Sumner, a brother, Dana Enman of Bogalusa, LA, 15 grandchildren, four step grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
At the family's request there will be no services or visitation. Arrangements under the direction of the Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, Norway.
Elinore M. Beausang

PORTLAND Elinore M. Beausang, 76, of Oxford died Tuesday August 4, 1998 at Mercy Hospital in Portland.
She was born at Wellsley, MA on December 10, 1921, the daughter of William and Nina Mae Dauley Judson.
She had lived in Oxford for many years.
She married Howard `Bud' Beausang September 27, 1942 and he died on April 29, 1992.
She is survived by one brother, William Corkhum of Rhode Island; one sister, Elizabeth Absher of NY; one daughter, Debbie Medeiros of Massachusetts and one son, Howard R. Beausang, of Massachusetts ; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren, as well as a special friend and companion, Robert Morin of Norway.
Memorial services were held on Sunday, August 16, at the Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, 230 Main St. Norway.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Beausang's memory may be sent to Greater Grace Missions, 5963 Sleepyhollow Rd., Rome NY 03440.
Francis P. Bedard

Francis P. Bedard, 73, of Norway, died Sunday, March 29, 1998, at his residence. He was born in Norway on January 28, 1925, the son of Nazaire P. Sr. and Celina M. Demers Bedard.
He attended Norway Schools. Mr. Bedard faithfully served our country in the US Army during WWII. He married Donna Herrick on October 2,1954. After military service, Mr. Bedard was a lathe operator in local wood mills for years. Later in life, he worked as a night watchman for such companies as Miller Shoe, Brown's Novelty Mill, and Paris Manufacturing. Mr. Bedard was a skilled painter who enjoyed painting pictures with his grandson, Justin.
He is survived by his wife, Donna of Norway; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and David Paradis, of Norway; a grandson, Justin Paradis of Norway; two brothers, Edmond J. of South Paris and Emile of Norway; two nieces, Martha Wiseman of Mechanic Falls and Gemma Robichaud of Lewiston.
He was pre-deceased by a brother, Nazaire P. Jr. and a sister Anna Bedard.
A memorial graveside service will be held in the spring at the Riverside Annex cemetery in South Paris with Rev. Gertrude Decoteau officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, Norway.
Stacy W. Bedard

DIXFIELD - Stacy W. Bedard, 60 of Paris Hill Road,South Paris died unexpectedly Monday, November 3, 1998, while at work in Dixfield.
He was born in Sumner,June 16, 1938 the son of Joseph and Isabel Farris Bedard.
He attended school in Sumner and in his younger years worked as a farmer and logger.Since 1971 he has worked as a truck driver for United Timber in Dixfield.He enjoyed spending time with his family,camping, boating, fishing and the pleasure he gave to the community with his many Christmas displays.
Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Patricia McAlister Bedard of South Paris; his mother, Isabel Bedard, of Sumner; a son and daughter-in-law, Stacy Jr. and Debbie of Canton, two stepdaughters, Debra and her husband, Dennis Poland and Cathy and her husband, Sheldon Morgan all of Woodstock,three grandsons, Caesar Morgan, Heath Poland and Sandon Morgan, one granddaughter, Brandy Poland;, four brothers Joseph of Hartford, Leroy of Auburn, Lenny of Hartford and John of Sumner; six sisters and their husbands, Yvonne and Clifford Bragg of Hartford, Pauline and Robert Noyes of Buckfield, Caroline and David Yates of West Paris, Arlene Bedard of Sumner, Shirley Bennett of Buckfield and Kathy Laughton of Sumner.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Weston-Chandler Funeral Home,45 Main Street, South Paris with Interment in Riverside Annex Cemetery. Mrs. Carrie S. Belanger

NORWAY- Carrie S. Belanger, 75, of Oxford died Sunday, January 16, 2000 at the Norway Rehabilitation and Living Center.
She was born in Oxford on May 28, 1924, the daughter of John Herbert and Isabelle Thurlow Ellsworth.
She was educated in Oxford schools. She had worked for many years as a foreman in the spinning department at Robinson Manufacturing in Oxford.
She married Irving Kippy Clifford Belanger in 1939 and he died in 1977.
She is survived by a son, Barry of Auburn; three grandchildren, Denice Belanger, Brett Belanger and David Cummings all of Oxford; three great-grandchildren, Jordan and Shauna Cummings and Kelsey DeBlois.
She was predeceased by a son, Bruce in 1991.
A gathering for Family and Friends was held at the home of Denice Belanger on Tuesday, January 18, 2000.
Services will be held in the spring at a time and date to be announced. Donations in Mrs. Belangers memory can be sent to either the Oxford Rescue or the Women's Auxiliary.

Roderic N. Bell

Roderic N. Bell, 72, of Route 1 in Wiscasset, died Monday, August 31 at Maine Medical Center in Portland.
Born in Corinna on July 5, 1926, he was the son of Norman A. and Inza (Proctor) Bell. He graduated from Corinna Union Academy in 1944 and attended Husson College for four years.
On June 27, 1947 he married Ethel Knowlton and in 1952 they moved to Wiscasset.
Mr. Bell worked for Northern Electric in Brunswick until 1971 when he co-owned and operated Coastal Electric, retiring in 1984.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #54 of Wiscasset and the Masons in Wiscasset. He enjoyed camping with his family, fishing, gardening, snowmobiling, farming and spending time at his camp in Liberty.
Survivors include his wife of fifty years, Ethel Bell of Wiscasset; one son, Jim Bell and his wife Dutchy of Wiscasset; one daughter, Nancy Spinney and her husband, Ron of Southport; one brother, Roland N. Bell of Fairfield; one sister-in-law, Ruth Bell of Corinna; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Spinney, Mark Bell, Heather Bell and Jennifer Spinney; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Bell was predeceased by one brother, Ronald V. Bell in 1992; and one grandson, Jason Spinney in 1983.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 4 at Greenlawn cemetery in Wiscasset.

John Benedetto

NORWAY John Benedetto, 87, of Norway died Sunday July 5, 1998, at the Norway Rehabilitation and Living Center.
He was born in Wakefield on May 28, 1911, the son of Antonio and Donato Palmerino Benedetto. He was educated in Wakefield schools. He had worked at B.E. Cole, Francine, and Miller shoe companies in the local area.
He was a member of Saint Catherine of Sienna where he had served as an usher for many years, Knights of Columbus, Sons of Italy, Blue Army, and the CC Camp in Bridgton.
Mr. Benedetto enjoyed doing volunteer work in the community. His cooking was enjoyed by all.
He has lived in the Norway area most all his life. He married Josephine Scappaticci on October 28, 1939.
He is survived by his wife of Norway; several nieces and nephews and he was predeceased by a brother, Domenick.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Wednesday July 8, at Saint Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church in Norway with Fr. Lawrence Conley as Celebrant. Interment was in the Norway Pine Grove cemetery in South Paris. Donations in Mr. Benedetto's memory may be sent to Saint Catherine of Sienna or to the Blue Army of Our Lady of Fatima, P.O. Box 976, Washington, NJ 07882-9913.
