Mrs. Corinne L. McLaughlin
TURNER - Corinne L. McLaughlin, 94, of Turner, died peacefully at her home on Friday, November 12, 2004, after an extended illness.
She was born in Bowdoinham on February 14, 1910, the daughter of Gertrude and Leonard Lermond. She was educated in the Gorham schools and graduated in 1929 from Gorham Normal School, now the University of Southern Maine, with a Life Teaching Certificate.
Her first teaching assignment was in the town of Turner, whereupon she met her future husband, Ronald C. McLaughlin. They were married on August 23, 1933 and resided in Turner for the remainder of their lives.
She started her teaching career in one-room schools located in both Turner and East Buckfield and then went on to teach in various elementary schools, also located in Turner. She retired in 1972 with a total of 27 years. She thoroughly enjoyed her teaching profession and especially helping her students achieve success in their educational pursuits.
In addition to her teaching career, she also helped her husband, Ronald, in the operation of his finishing mill.
To her, one of the greatest accomplishments of her life was raising her family. She was a very devoted mother and extremely proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. McLaughlin was a founding member of the Turner Village Mother's Club, held various offices in the Order of the Rebekahs, belonged to the Maine Retired Teachers Association, the Maine Education Association, National Education Association-Retired and the Maine Association of Retirees.
Survivors include two sons, Clifton and his wife Elke of Villanova, PA and Sheldon and his companion Lois Franklin of Turner; one daughter, Sharon Bremner and her companion Clifton Ledger of Turner; four grandchildren, Martha Butcher and David McLaughlin of Turner, Clifton McLaughlin Jr., of Berwyn, PA and Kendall Bremner of Lewiston and six great-grandchildren, Kayla, Kristen and Kacie Butcher, Derek and Scott McLaughlin all of Turner and Grace McLaughlin of Berwyn, PA. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Ronald, who passed away on January 22, 1991; two sisters, Dorothy Kimball and Gladys Cargill; two brothers, Paul and Clayton Lermond; a daughter-in-law, Rhoda McLaughlin and a great-grandson, Brett Ronald McLaughlin.
Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family. Public memorial services will be held at the Turner Village Church on Saturday, November 20 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Nate Colson officiating. Mr. Chester Vernon Adams
STONEHAM - Chester Vernon Adams, 75, of Stoneham, died unexpectedly at Stephens Memorial Hospital, Norway, on December 5, 2004.
He was born in North Lovell on March 31, 1929 to Jesse and Bessie (Flint) Adams. He worked for many years for Dwight Grover in his sawmill before he moved to Center Lovell and was caretaker for many homes, some of which he still cared for. He was past president of Kezar Lake Sportsmen's Club and worked for many years on the original Lovell Old Home Days and the annual Chicken Barbeque. He loved to hunt and fish and spent many years as a Maine Guide, as did his father and brothers. He was a very active member of the Lovell Lion's Club and the World's Fair Association. He always attended or contributed to the benefit suppers and was quick to offer to drive people to appointments or just the store. Most days you would find him working on his huge wood piles or delivering truckloads of wood. In the winter he enjoyed selling bait and talking to his early morning customers. His biggest wish was "that people would just get along, enjoy each other and once in a while, tell a little joke". His favorite poem was "The Man In The Mirror". He enjoyed his Wednesday night poker games in his garage and was delighted when the Red Sox finally won! He loved going to Country Sundays and playing cards with his wife Betty and whoever cared to join in. He loved all of his children, grandchildren, and his cat Gi-Gi and was greatly entertained by them all.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Tuttle Adams of Stoneham; his daughters, Cheryl Adams-Callen and her husband Rod of Stoneham and Dorene Adams and husband Dave Gillerlain of Keene, NH; grandchildren, Shelly Bennett Mathias of Stoneham, Crissy Millett Josselyn of Manchester, NJ, and Nicholas Lausier of Keene, NH, and five great-grandchildren, the sixth to be born in March.
He is also survived by three loving stepchildren, Debbie Merrill and her husband Woody of Harrison, Jerry Tuttle and his wife Patty of Bridgton and Ken Tuttle of MA, and grandchildren Nathan, Eli, Melissa, Joshua, Elizabeth, Jade, Jasmyn, and Levi and two great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife Shirley Littlefield Adams in 1977, his parents and all of his brothers and sisters Paul, Ernest, Winfield, Arthur, and Howard Adams, Marion Smith, and on December 4 this year, Eunice Grover. Chester was the last on the "Adams Cannonball."
He wished to have no visiting hours but there was a graveside service Wednesday, December 8, at the North Lovell Cemetery
followed by refreshments at the North Lovell Grange. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Lovell Lion's Club, c/o Cliff Hill, 2065 Main St., Lovell, ME 04051. Wood Funeral Home of Fryeburg was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Sharon Heald
POLAND - Sharon Heald, 57, of Poland died Saturday May 14, 2005 at Central Maine Medical Center.
She was born in Norway on May 11, 1948, the daughter of Linwood and Mary Austin Fitts. She was a graduate of Oxford Hills High School. Mrs. Heald worked as a CNA and was a loving mother and housewife. She was a member of the American Legion in Mechanic Falls. She loved crafts, traveling, and mining.
Mrs. Heald is survived by three daughters, Rebecca Reece of Oxford, Sirena Goddard of Poland, and Cheryl Pressey-Lash of Damariscotta; a son, Thomas Fitts of Poland; a brother, Dale Fitts of Poland; a sister, Sandy Lawrence of Auburn; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside memorial service will be held on Monday, May 23 at 1 p.m. in the Highland Cemetery
in West Poland. Arrangements are under the direction of Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, 26 W. Dwinal St., Mechanic Falls.
Mrs. Shirley Dullea Weirauch
CHEYENNE, WY - Shirley Dullea Weirauch, 72, of Cheyenne, WY, died September 13, at United Medical Center-West.
The daughter of Kenneth and Marion Leland Dullea of "Millettville," Norway, she was born July 25, 1933. She graduated from Norway High School in 1951, and served a tour of duty for the United States Air Force at Kirkland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, NM, where she met and married her husband, Charles Weirauch on June 30, 1956.
Mrs. Weirauch and her husband Charlie made their home for 36 years in Cheyenne, WY. She retired after 25 years of service in the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Her last position was the IRS Wyoming Taxpayer Education Coordinator. Among her many volunteer activities, she worked as an IRA VITA volunteer and served in AARP, the Retired Senior Volunteer program, the Coalition of Agencies Supporting the Elderly and CROP Walk. Through AARP Mrs. Weirauch served as instructor and counselor for the Tax-Aide Program, coordinator of the Community Council, secretary of the National Senior Spelling Bee Board, coordinator of the Senior Shred Identity Theft Project and was in charge of many other activities undertaken by the Council.
She was an active member of the Positive Living Breakfast Club, past member of the Wyoming Council on Economic Education, a member of the YMCA and a contributor to the YMCA Active Older Adult newsletter. She never refused the opportunity to serve others.
Mrs. Weirauch was a loving, caring wife, mother and grandmother and friend who always had a smile on her face and never had an unkind word to say about anyone. Her love and friendship were unconditional and she had a great sense of humor. When she walked into a room, it was like an explosion of sunshine. She enjoyed playing the piano, spending time with her family and friends and traveling. She frequently came back to her Norway roots to spend time with her brother Kenneth "Skip" Dullea and with her favorite cousin, Pat Pulkkinen of South Paris.
Mrs. Weirauch is survived by her husband Charles Weirauch; four daughters, Kathy Hamilton and husband of Laramie, WY, Laurie Hildahl and husband Ken of Seattle, WA, Toni Weirauch and husband Bryan Godfrey of Washington, DC, and Patty Weirauch of Cheyenne; a son, Chuck Weirauch of Loveland, CO; a stepdaughter, Pam and husband Robby Robinson; a brother, Kenneth Dullea of Norway; three grandchildren, Ian Hamilton and Cole and Katie Hildahl; two step-grandchildren, Jamie Robinson and Trina Lester and two step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial services were held at the Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes in Cheyenne. Friends may donate to the American Diabetes Association in Mrs. Weirauch's memory.
Mrs. Barbara Williams
HEBRON - Barbara Williams, 68, of Hebron died Sunday, October 16 at Market Square Health Care Center.
She was born in Rumford on October 5, 1937, the daughter of Leroy and Ruth Noyes Burgess. She graduated from Canton High School in the class of 1955. She was devoted to her family and her husband of 49 years, Lester A. Williams, Jr. She loved being a grandmother.
Her joyous and fun-loving spirit, her compassion, understanding and generous nature endeared her to her extended family and friends, especially to her nieces and nephews. She was the "family photographer" and a cook who generously shared her gift.
Mrs. Williams is survived by her husband of Hebron; son, Michael Williams of Rockland; son, Bryan Williams of Cape Coral, FL and his children, Dominique and Brett and a brother, Ronald Burgess. She was predeceased by a son, James L. Williams and a brother, Robert Burgess.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 20 at 10 a.m. at Weston Chandler Funeral Home, 45 Main St., South Paris with interment to follow at 2:30 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery

Mr. Jim M. Bowie
OXFORD - Jim M. Bowie, 52, of Oxford died unexpectedly at Stephens Memorial Hospital on Saturday, December 10. He was born in Lewiston on April 23, 1953, the son of Winfield, Jr. and Sarah Harkins Bowie. He attended schools in Poland and Auburn and faithfully served his country in the U. S. Army. He married Kathleen Foss on December 2, 1972.
He had been proprietor of Bowie & Girlz Repair and Autobody in Oxford. For many years he worked for various NASCAR Race teams. He was also well known as a NASCAR and PASS race official. He loved family cookouts. He was a loving father and grandfather, always making everyone laugh.
Mr. Bowie is survived by his wife of 33 years, Kathleen of Oxford; his mother and father of Ireland; sons, Kris and his companion Tammy Rice and Scott all of Oxford; daughters, Molly Palmer and her husband Jeremy of Mechanic Falls and Meghan and her companion David Toothaker of Oxford; grandchildren, Kris, Katie and Kaven Bowie all of Oxford and Brianna Palmer of Mechanic Falls; brothers, Mike Bowie of Poland and Sean Bowie of Kennebunk and a sister, Trisha Taylor of Ireland.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, December 14 at 10 a.m. at Weston Chandler Funeral Home, 26 W. Dwinal St., Mechanic Falls. Family and friends called at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.
Mrs. Elsie A. Towne
SOUTH BRIDGTON - Elsie A. Towne of South Bridgton, died January 1, 2006 at the Bridgton Health Care Center, surrounded by her family. She was the widow of Norman P. Towne, who died December 31, 2000, with whom she shared 60 years of marriage.
Mrs. Towne was born May 19, 1917 at Naples. She was the daughter of Fred A. and Signe Johansson Treadwell, attended schools in Naples, and was a graduate of Bridgton High School. Mrs. Towne had been an active member of South Bridgton Congregational Church for many years where she was involved in the Kings Daughters, the Missionary Society, and the Silver Cross Guild. She chaired the church's mission selection committee for many years and was involved in fundraising suppers for the benefit of the church's mission and Silver Cross Guild projects.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Sadie Packard. She is survived by her four children, Norma Towne Clayton and her husband John of West Chester, PA; Kenneth H. Towne and his wife Kathy, John E. Towne and his wife Loretta and Gerald A. Towne and his wife Carol, all of Bridgton. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Burial will be private. A memorial service is being planned for July at the South Bridgton Congregational Church. Contributions in her memory can be sent to the South Bridgton Congregational Church, P.O. Box 621, Bridgton, ME.

Mr. Neil Wadsworth Ward
OTISFIELD - Neil Wadsworth Ward, 78, of Bolsters Mills died Saturday, January 21, 2006 at the Maine Veterans' Home in South Paris after a long illness.
He was born in Harrison on July 25, 1927, the eldest son of Norman F. and Celia (Witham) Ward.
He attended Harrison Elementary School and Bridgton Academy.
He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during W.W.II aboard the aircraft carrier, the U.S.S. Tarawa, as a gunner, stationed at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
After the war, he took flying lessons and obtained his pilot's license.
Mr. Ward and his father then started Ward's Auto Body Shop, which they ran for several years.
He also worked at Wilner Wood Products in South Paris; the South Portland shipyard, as a welder; for Edward Tarbox of Harrison as a school bus driver, and as a carpenter for Roy Meserve of Casco.
He established his own building and remodeling business, which he ran for many years until his health forced his retirement.
Mr. Ward was a very kind, generous and loving man who enjoyed being with family and friends, listening to music, dancing, and watching Western movies.
He regularly attended concerts at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School where he delighted in watching his step-granddaughter perform.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel (Smith) Ward of Bolsters Mills; two sons, Ronald Ward of Portland and Matthew Ward of Brunswick; two daughters, Anne Ward and Vicky Edwards, both of Harrison; a stepson, William Hill of Colebrook, NH; a stepdaughter, Bonnie Iwans of Norway; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; five step-grandchildren; four brothers, Phil Ward of Lovell, Arthur Ward of Essex Jct., VT, Richard Ward of Bridgton and Dennis Ward of Old Orchard Beach; four sisters, Norma Allen of Bridgton, Vivian Andrews of Anderson, NC, Beverly Brown of South Paris and Betty Ward of Harrison.
At Mr. Ward's request there will be no services. A celebration of his life will be held in the spring at the time of his burial.
