Guy "Bud" Messenger
YORK -- Guy "Bud" Messenger, 80, formerly of York and Gorham, Maine, and retiring to Industry, Maine, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2006, at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington, Maine.
He leaves behind his wife, Roberta; two daughters, Marcia Ann Farranti of O'Fellon, Ill., and Bonnie Irving of Gorham; a sister, Jean West of York Beach; several nieces and nephews and stepchildren.
Guy had a TV and radio repair shop on York Street and drove a school bus for many years in York. Later, he worked for Day's Jewelry Store before retiring to Industry, Maine. Bud and Roberta were active in the American Legion and the Special Olympics.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Special Olympics.
Arline V. (Schempp) Ripple
KENNEBUNK -- Mrs. Arline V. (Schempp) Ripple, 91, of Kennebunk, and formerly of West Boxford, Mass., died Thursday, Oct. 5, at the Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford with her daughter by her side.
She was born in Bridgeport, Conn., on Oct. 8, 1914, the daughter of the late Frederick and Amelia (Weckworth) Schempp of Wood Avenue.
A special highlight in her life was being surrounded by all of her family and friends in celebration of her 90th birthday. As a young woman, Arline had an adventurous spirit and her experiences included living and working in New York City. She traveled as a purser on a cruise ship to South America visiting Argentina where her granddaughter, Alicia, spent a year as an exchange student.
As a 35-year resident of West Boxford, with her husband and daughter, Arline, she was an active member of her church and the community. She participated in many of the Second Congregational Church committees and served as deaconess of the church for many years. Arline also enjoyed involvement with her bridge and garden clubs.
Throughout her long, adventurous life, she never lost her love for chocolate, which she shared with her grandson, Alexander. Arline's warm and generous ways, positive outlook and winning smiles endeared her to all. She will be remembered by all.
She was the wife of the late Gordon Stanley Ripple, who died in 2003, and is survived by her loving daughter, Amy R. Morse and her husband, Philip; a granddaughter, Alicia Morse; grandson, Alexander Morse, all of Kennebunkport; five nephews; two nieces; 23 great nieces and nephews; and 20 great-great nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Charles, Frederick and Ernest Schempp.
Relatives and friends attended a memorial service on Tuesday at the Second Congregational Church of Boxford, Washington Street, West Boxford. A private family graveside service took place Tuesday in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Boxford. Mary Ellen Kaminske
KAMINSKE: Mary Ellen Kaminske, 50, of 29 Sunrise Terrace, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2006. The memorial Mass for Mary will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 26 in St. Christopher's Church, 4 Barrell Lane, York, Maine. Burial will be held in First Parish Cemetery, York. Mary Ellen Kaminske
YORK -- Mary Ellen Kaminske, 50, of 29 Sunrise Terrace, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2006, in her home with her loving husband by her side after a courageous two-year battle with cancer.
She was born March 13, 1956, in North Tonawanda, N.Y., daughter of Frank and Barbara (Kelley) Weingartner.
She had worked as a tax analyst for Timberland Company in Stratham, N.H.
She was a member of St. Christopher's Church and active in the youth ministry.
She leaves behind her husband of 27 years, Kevin S. Kaminske; a son, Aaron S. Kaminske of New York City; a daughter, Katelyn E. Kaminske of York; two brothers, Timothy Weingartner of Greensboro, N.C., and Paul Weingartner of Tonawanda, N.Y., and a sister, Karen Engle of Rochester, N.Y.
She was predeceased by her dear sister, Colleen Weingartner. She was a beloved aunt to 12 nieces and nephews and a true friend to all. She loved children with boundless compassion and her dedication to the needs of others was inspirational. The turtle community will forever be indebted to her efforts to guarantee their unrestricted "right of way."
She lived life to its fullest and will always be remembered for her unconditional love and service to others. Mary, "We love you to the moon and back"
Caroline "Cadda" H. Starkey
York, Maine -- Caroline "Cadda" H. Starkey, 84, of 26 Plaisted Road, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2006, in York Hospital.
Born in York, she was the daughter of Dean G. and Florence (Hildreth ) Woodward Sr. She was a graduate of Westbrook Junior College, Class of 1941.
She had worked as a bookkeeper for Dale Motors and later worked as a real estate agent for the Woodward Agency.
She was a member of the First Parish Congregational Church, the National Association of Realtors, a longtime member of the Girl Scouts and a member of the York County Genealogy Society. She was also a charter member of the Mockingbird Club.
She leaves two daughters, Sally L. Starkey-Woodbury of Carrabassett Valley, Maine and Deborah A. Scates and her husband, Kerry N. Scates of South China, Maine; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Woodbury of York, Derek Scates of Somers Point, N.J., and Jennie Williams of Gardiner, Maine; two great-grandchildren, Keenan R. Woodbury of York and Hayden P. Thompson, of Shiprock, N.M.
Her husband of 57 years, Raymond H. Starkey died in 1999. She was also predeceased by a brother, Dean G. Woodward in 2003, a sister, Abby Raynes in 1993 and a grandson, Josiah T.C. Woodbury in 1994.
The funeral service for Mrs. Starkey was held Friday, Oct. 20 in the First Parish Congregational Church, 180 York St, York, Maine. Burial will follow in First Parish Cemetery, York. Charles André d'Entremont
d'Entremont -- Charles André d'Entremont, 86, of Meadowview Lane in York, died on Sept. 14, 2006, at York Hospital. A memorial service will be held Friday, Sept. 29, 2006, at 11 a.m. at the First Parish cemetery in York. McKAY -- Doris E. Mowbray McKay, 92, of Plant Memorial Home, Washington Street, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2006, at a Brunswick hospital. Visiting hours were held at Mayo, Curtis & Hill Funeral Home, 819 High Street, Bath, on Tuesday. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at United Church of Christ Congregational in Bath. Burial will follow at Oak Grove cemetery in Bath. Charles André' d'Entremont Sr.
YORK -- Charles André d'Entremont Sr., 86, of Meadowview Lane in York, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2006, at York Hospital.
Born in Portsmouth, N.H., he was a son of Simeon A. and Annie Elizabeth (Phillips) d' Entremont and he graduated from R.W. Traip Academy with the Class of 1938. Following graduation he served his country as a member of the United States Coast Guard as the captain of a landing craft, which landed during four European invasions, during World War II.
He met and in 1951 married his loving wife of nearly 51 years, Charlene (Downes) d'Entremont, and together they made their home in York and raised their family.
Charlie served his community as a RFD carrier for the United States Postal Service for more than 30 years in Kittery Point. He enjoyed outdoor life,
hunting, fishing and especially enjoyed time spent flying his plane into northern Maine.
He is survived by his son, Charles A. and his wife, Peg d'Entremont, of York; a granddaughter, Kate and her fiancé, Jeff Spaulding; a brother, the Rev. Robert d'Entremont; two nieces and two nephews.
Hazel A. (Marston) Hodge
YORK -- Hazel A. (Marston) Hodge, 89, of 29 Brave Boat Harbor Road, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2006, in Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
She was born in York, the daughter of Orrin and Ethel J. (Voudy) Marston, and had lived here all her life. She belonged to the Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall in Kittery for many years and also loved animals.
She leaves her husband of 63 years, William J. Hodge; several nieces and nephews; and her dog, Brandy. A niece; a nephew; four brothers, Lester, Russell, Gordon and Louis Marston; and a sister, Lilea MacDonald, predeceased her.
A funeral service took place on Monday, Sept. 18 in the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Road, York, Maine. Burial followed in First Parish Cemetery, York. Memorial contributions may be made to the N.H. SPCA P.O. Box 196 Stratham, N.H. 03885.
William McKinney
FLORIDA CITY, Fla. -- William C. McKinney, 81, died peacefully in his sleep in the early hours of Sunday, Aug. 20, 2006.
He lived in Florida City, Fla., and he kept his boat in the Florida Keys.
He fought hard and played hard. A decorated veteran of World War II, Bill still kept abreast of his shipmates. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 10211 in Key Largo. Bill successfully fought merkel cell cancer this past year and he was proud of his diploma from Yale Cancer Center in New Haven, Conn.
A successful businessman in York, Boston and Framingham, Mass., Bill was in retirement in Florida for almost 30 years.
Bill was predeceased by his only wife, Marie "Sis" McKinney, of York Harbor; his mother, Irma Bridges McKinney of Kittery; his sister, Bertha McKinney Wright of Wayland, Mass.; and his father, William C. Sr. of York Harbor and Waltham, Mass.
Bill leaves an enormous void in the lives of his family and, equally as important, in the lives of the fabulous friends who mourn in his wake. Funeral arrangements are private. A celebration of Bill's life will be held somewhere in New England next summer.
Merton G. Moulton
KITTERY -- Merton G. Moulton, 79, a longtime resident of Norton Road in Kittery, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2006, at Edgewood Center in Portsmouth, N.H., where he had made his home for six years.
Born on Feb. 25, 1927, in Billerica, Mass., he was a son of David and Myrtle (Davis) Moulton. He attended schools in Wells, while growing up in Moody.
Following high school, he served his country as a member of the United States Navy from 1945 to 1947. He was employed for 34 years as an engineer at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.
In 1994, he and his wife relocated from their home of many years on Norton Road in Kittery to Meetinghouse Village where they enjoyed their home and friends until 2000, when he made the move to Edgewood Center in Portsmouth.
Mr. Moulton enjoyed membership in the Ocean Lodge AF & AM in Wells and KORA Temple Shrine in Lewiston. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed mowing his lawns, music,
hunting and cooking as well as bingo. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his family: son, David Moulton of Thailand; daughters, Cathleen and her husband, Boone Posey, of Bruce, S.D., Michele and her husband, Stephen McCarthy, of Portsmouth, N.H., and Melissa and her husband, Jeremy Carlson, of LaGrange, Ky.; stepsons, Russell and his wife, Diane Belleville, of Boca Raton, Fla., Frank and his wife, Catherine Belleville, of Kittery; stepdaughter, Cheryl and her husband, Charles White, of Kittery; stepson, Dennis Belleville of Lebanon, Maine; and a stepdaughter, Annette and her husband, William Roberts, of Epping, N.H.; grandchildren, Bert, Taylor, Alex, Tanner, Travis, Aliesha, Megan, Andrew, Scott and Craig; and many nieces, great nieces, great and step grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Evelyn Lewington; his first wife, Joan (Holmes) Moulton; his wife, Billie Joanne Moulton; and a stepson, Kenneth Belleville.
A funeral was held on Monday, Sept. 18, 2006, at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, ME 03904. Donations may be made in his memory to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104-2396. Arrangements are entrusted to the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home of Kittery.
Doris E. Mowbray McKay
BATH -- Doris E. Mowbray McKay, 92, of Plant Memorial Home, Washington Street, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2006, at a Brunswick hospital.
She was born in Glenwood, Maine, on Feb. 28, 1914, a daughter of Norman and Florence (Nolan) Mowbray.
She graduated from Wytopitlock High School and on Nov. 11, 1932, and she married Burleigh L. McKay in Portsmouth, N.H. She was employed at Bath Memorial Hospital in Bath, First National Store in Bath and Congress Sportswear in Bath, retiring in 1976.
She was a past worthy matron and a grand representative of Order of Eastern Star, a member of Winter Street Congregation Church and later United Church of Christ Congregational where she served on several committees.
She enjoyed ceramics, knitting, crocheting and sewing and for several years did clothing alterations.
She was predeceased by her husband, Burleigh L. McKay, on April 28, 1997, and two brothers, Donald Mowbray and Ivan C. Jenkins.
She is survived by two daughters, Jean Ford Dolan of York and Carolyn "Callie" Witham and her husband, Mert, of Bath; one sister, Louise M. Seppala of Gloucester, Mass.; five grandchildren, Wendy Witham of Bath, Cindy Bennett of Petersham, Mass., Julie McDermott of Bath, Tim Ford of Shorewood, Minn., Tom Ford of Sidney, N.Y., and Beth Holdridge of Easton, Pa.; 12 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Andrea R. (Cilley) Murphy
MURPHY -- Andrea R. (Cilley), 51, of Brookline, formerly of Weymouth, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2007. A funeral service was held on Thursday, Jan. 25, at the First Church (Congregational) in Weymouth Heights, with the Rev. Gary Blume, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Dover.
