Mr. Forrest G. Earle
NORWAY - Forrest G. Earle, 83 of Oxford died Monday morning, March 26, 2001, at Stephens Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Hollis on August 27, 1917, the son of Oliver and Edith Colbeth Earle. He attended schools in Hollis and had been employed as a field man for H.P. Hood Co., Yankee Milk, and Agrimark.
He was a member of Oxford Lodge #18 AF&AM.
He enjoyed golfing, fishing, NASCAR Racing, playing cribbage with his friends and he loved his dogs.
He faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII.
On June 7, 1952 he married Abbie Jane McLaughlin, who died on March 7, 1989.
He is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Karol and Steve Hill of Oxford, and Karen and Kenny Rogers of Oxford; a sister, Alice Trull of Saco and several nieces and a nephew.
Graveside services will be held later in the spring at the Riverside Cemetery, Hollis.
Those who wish may contribute in his memory to Santa Visits Oxford, c/o Lucille Hodsdon, 67 Roberts Rd., Norway.

Mr. Gilbert Charles Pabst
BRIDGTON - Gilbert Charles Pabst, 69, of Bridgton, died Wednesday, March 28, in the Bridgton Hospital.
Mr. Pabst was born on September 2, 1931, in Brooklyn, NY, son of the late Gilbert and Elsa Pabst. He attended Polytechnic University in Brooklyn.
He was an electrical salesman, retiring in 1999 from Metropolitan Electrical in Amityville, NY.
On October 6, 1956, Mr. Pabst married Cynthia Holmes.
He was a member of the Bethapage Masonic Lodge No. 975 in Hicksville, NY, past president with the Farmingdale Rotary. St. Luke's Church in Farmingdale, NY, where he was a church councilman and a youth advisor, and a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in South Paris.
He was a veteran with the US Army, serving during the Korean Conflict.
Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Cynthia; two daughters, Cinday Arnold and her husband George of Marlton, NJ, and Krista Waters and her husband Richard of Kings Park, NY; a son, Gilbert Pabst and his wife Lillian of Bethpage, NY; and two granddaughters, Melissa Georgia Arnold and Emily Anne Waters.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 30, in the Trinty Lutheran Church in South Paris, with the Rev. Thomas Teichmann officiating. Burial will be in Pinelawn Cemetery, Farmington, NY. Arrangements were by Raymond-Wentowrth Funeral Home, Bridgton.
Mr. Norman E. Shaw
Norway - Norman E. Shaw, 69 of High Street, South Paris died unexpectedly Tuesday, July 17, 2001 at Stephens Memorial Hos pital.
He was born in Bridgton, January 17, 1932, the son of Earl and Edith Wentworth Shaw. He attended Bridgton schools and learned the tool and die trade in Torrington, CT.
Mr. Shaw worked for DiElectric a short time and retired from Maine Machine Products in South Paris after 37 years.
He faithfully served his country in the Army during the Korean conflict and was wounded while in Korea and received the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Foster-Carroll American Legion Post 72, DAV, Korean Veterans Purple Heart Chapter and the American Society of Engineers. He enjoyed bird watching and deer
hunting.
Survivors include his wife of 49 and a half years Pauline Blanchette Shaw of South Paris; 2 daughters, Karan Bracy of York and Susan Paradis of Lewiston; a son Randall of Lewiston; a sister Virginia Richardson of South Paris, 2 brothers, Donald of Sunbury,PA and Ronald of Highland, CA; an uncle, Burton Shaw of Harrison; and 6 grandchildren Amanda, Brianna and Courtney St. John, Christopher and Bryan Shaw, and Timothy Paradis.
Mr. Shaw was predeceased by a sister Pauline; 2 brothers, Lawrence and Robert and a granddaughter Allison Shaw.
Family and friends attended graveside services Friday at Gracelawn Memorial Park, Auburn.
Those who wish may make memorial gifts in his memory to the Maine Veterans Home, High Street, South Paris.
Arrangements were under the direction of Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, South Paris.
Mr. Gordon Merrill Ridley
NORWAY - Gordon Merrill Ridley, 74, of West Paris died Friday, October 12, 2001 at Stephens Memorial Hospital.
Born in Lincoln Plantation on September 5, 1927, he was the son of Charles and Blanche Hart Ridley and He had been employed by Landmark Human Resources until retirement in 1998.
He whittled wood, making rifles, handguns and replicas of various farm animals.
He is survived by a brother, Vernon Ridley, of South Paris and a sister-in-law, Lucy Ridley, of Norway.
A memorial service was held on Monday, October 15 at Ledgeview Living Center Chapel, 141 Bethel Road, West Paris.
Mr. Ara O. Goss
WEST POLAND - Mr. Ara O. Goss, 83, of West Poland, died Saturday, November 24, 2001 at his home.
Born in New Gloucester on November 2, 1918, he was the son of Harry and Ruby E. Edwards Goss.
After graduating from Mechanic Falls High School, he worked at the shipyard in South Portland as a welder from 1941-1943. During WWII, from 1943 to 1946, he faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army.
In 1947 he married Mildred L. Libby.
The couple had a devoted life together for forty-nine-and-a-half years on their farm in West Poland before her death in 1996.
Most of his life he managed Goss Hardware in Mechanic Falls.
He was an active member of the Pleasant Street Baptist Church and youth group.
He attended church all his life and served as deacon, Prudential Committee member, and church collector.
For over 50 years he belonged to the Grange and served eight years as a selectman for the town of Poland.
Mr. Goss loved his family and devoted his life to them at the same time he faithfully loved and served his Lord and Savior. He enjoyed gardening and fixing things, and knew a lot about many different things.
Survivors include a son, Thomas A., and his wife, Judy, of Poland and their children, John and his wife Cherryl, Rebecca and Susan Goss; a son, Vernon O., of Poland; a son, Walter S,. and his wife, Sharon, of Mechanic Falls and their children Stephen, Emily, Michael and Sarah Goss; also four brothers, Harold of Poland, William of Zephyr Hills, FL, Paul of St. Petersburg, FL, and Elwood of Gadsden, AL. He was predeceased by a sister, Faith Talbut, and a brother, Julian.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Pleasant Street Baptist Church, Mechanic Falls, with Pastor Stephen Holbrook officiating. Interment was in Highland Cemetery, West Poland.

Mrs. Ruth Baker
SOUTH PARIS - Ruth Barker, 86, died May 24, 2002, in South Paris.
She was born in Amenia, New York on June 21, 1915, the daughter of George and Adelaide (Burlians) Mastin.
Mrs. Barker had been a homemaker most of her life. In her earlier years she loved to hike in the woods as well as caning chairs and doing crafts.
Several nieces survive her. Her husband Arthur Barker predeceased her in 1991.
At Ruth's request, there will be no public services.

Miss Edwina M. Parsons
HARTFORD - Edwina M. Parsons, 53, a resident of Hartford died Monday, July 29, 2002 at Victorian Villa Nursing Home following a lifelong illness.
Born in Rumford on November 30, 1948, she was the daughter of Edwin M. and Dorothy Brown Parsons. She received her education in the Canton schools and graduated from Buckfield High School in 1967.
She worked for a time at Coopers Orchard in Buckfield during apple picking season and in her youth, she was a member of the Busy Workers 4-H of Canton.
Miss Parsons enjoyed driving her own car on short trips when her health allowed. She loved concerts, traveling to Florida and was a passionate music listener.
She is survived by her mother of Hartford; a sister and her husband, Virginia and Rocky Libby of Hartford, a brother and his wife, Stanley and Natalie Parsons of Norway; three nieces, Kerri and Jessi Libby and Tanya Silver; a nephew, Todd Parsons and a grandniece, Kristine Silver. Her father predeceased her on August 1, 2000.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, August 1 at Pine Grove Cemetery
in Canton. Arrangements were by Finley Funeral Home, Livermore Falls.

Mr. Robert L. Talbot
NORWAY - Robert L. Talbot, 74, of Norway, died Sunday, Sept. 29 at Market Square Health Care Center.
He was born in Salem, MA on May 2, 1928, the son of Edmond and Marie-Louise Dube Talbot. He attended Saint Joseph's Grammar School, graduated from Salem High School in 1947 and attended Burdette College. He was Deputy Sheriff of Essex County, MA and Deputy Superintendent of the Lawrence Jail and House of Corrections, retiring in 1983.
Mr. Talbot is survived by his children, Robert, Jr. of Driggs, ID, Thomas of Norway, Kathryn of Kensington, NH, Stephen of Madison, NH, Timothy of Chocurua, NH, and Robin of Norway; his former wife of 35 years, Barbara Talbot of Chocurua, NH; three brothers, Ted, Don and Paul; and six grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial was held at St. Catherine of Sienna in Norway on Wednesday, Oct. 2. Interment followed at Lakeview Cemetery
in Norway. Arrangements were under the direction of Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, Norway.
Mrs. Jane L. Stewart
POLAND - Jane L. Stewart, 71, of Harris Hill Road, Poland died Friday, November 22, at Market Square Health Care Center after a long fight with Multiple Sclerosis.
She was born in Lewiston, January 16, 1931 the daughter of Carroll and Margaret Benson Hooper. She attended Leavitt Institute in Turner and had worked in area shoe shops including Continental Shoe in Lewiston. Multiple Sclerosis took away her ability to work, but it didn't prevent her from remaining busy and welcoming family and friends into her home. She enjoyed gardening, often canning what her garden provided. She spent much time playing cards, completing word searches, listening to music and reading.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth of Poland; a daughter, Suzanne of Dover-Foxcroft and Poland, a sister, Barbara Knight of Windham and a niece. She was predeceased by her parents, a brother, Gene Hooper and an infant son.
At Mrs. Stewart's request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers those who wish may make memorial gifts in her name to Market Square Health Care Center, South Paris. Arrangements are under the direction of Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, 26 West Dwinal Street, Mechanic Falls.
Mr. Richard Stephen Jones
NORWAY - Richard Stephen Jones, 73, of 7 Water Street in Norway passed away Friday, March 28 at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Keene, NH on January 15, 1930, the son of Stephen and Iva Record Jones. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and served 15 months in Korea with the 51st Battalion Army Signal Corp. He recently received his Republic of Korea Service Medal.
He was employed for 30 years at the former A. C. Lawrence Leather Co. in South Paris. He was an avid
hunter and fisherman. He was a member of the Stone-Smart Post #82 American Legion in Norway, the V.F.W. Post 9787 in South Paris, the East Stoneham Congregational Church and the local historical societies.
Mr. Jones is survived by his wife of 50 years, the former Marilyn McAlister of Norway; two daughters, Wanda Ryerson of Norway and Vicky Ferrell and her husband Jerry of Rock Hill, SC; two grandsons, Charles "Chuck" MacDonald, Jr. of Fort Mill, SC and Zachary Ryerson of Norway and a goddaughter, Deanna Merchant of Norway.
Funeral services were held on Monday at 2 p.m. at the East Stoneham Congregational Church with Rev. George Frobig officiating. Interment will be later in the spring at Hillside Cemetery
in East Stoneham.
Family and friends called at the Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, 230 Main St., Norway on Sunday evening 6-8 p.m. Floyd-Harlow VFW 9787 conducted memorial services at 6:30 p.m.
