Mrs. Thongbai (Pltiya) Allen
OTISFIELD - Thongbai (Pltiya) Allen, 48, of Powhattan Road, died Thursday morning, October 11, 2001, at her home after a long illness.
She was born in Udorn Thani, Thailand, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Swang Poonsiri.
She married John K. Allen on July 12, 1975, in Arlington, MA, after meeting him in Thailand during the Vietnam War.
They moved to Naples in 1975 and purchased a home in Otisfield in 1977.
Mrs. Allen was employed by McDonalds in Windham for six years.
She was an avid lover of the outdoors, spending much of her time in her garden.
Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Linda Allen of Fairfield, CT and Genevieve Allen of Otisfield; her father, Swang Poonsiri of Thailand; her mother and father-in-law, Jean and Kenneth Allen of Litchfield, NH; and several other relatives in the United States and Thailand.
A funeral service was held on Sunday, October 14, at Hall Funeral Home in Casco.
Mrs. Charlotte V. Wyman
NORWAY - Charlotte V. 'Snookie' Wyman, 72, of Norway died Wednesday, October 27, 2004 at Central Maine Medical Center. She was born in South Paris on March 31, 1932, the daughter of Charles and Olive Record Vashaw.
She attended schools in Mechanic Falls and Norway. She married Richard Wyman, Sr. on September 27, 1948.
She had been employed at several area businesses; Norway Shoe Shop, Oxford County Community Services, Cornwall's and Norway Laundry, from which she retired in 1983.
In 1984 she started the Undercover Flea Market on Route 26 in Oxford. She was a member of the North American Camping Association, the local snowmobile club, the Ridge Runners and the Moose Club in Florida.
She enjoyed singing and was in a band and the minstrel shows at the old Opera House on Main Street in Norway. She also belonged to the Norway Art Center. Her greatest accomplishment was that of wife and mother.
She is survived by her husband of Norway; five children, Richard Wyman, Jr. and his partner Carol of Norway, Judy Toothaker and her husband Larry of Oxford, David Wyman and his wife Sandy of South Paris, Thomas Wyman and his wife Carol of Harrison and Jayne Briggs and her husband Steve of Norway; 12 grandchildren, Kim MacFarland, Kevin Wyman, Tricia Johnson, Becki Kimball, Brent Wyman, Joseph Wyman, Josh Wyman, Oldriska Buehl, Miranda Cobbett, Heather Delamater, Jason Briggs and Jessica Briggs; 17 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Priscilla Gammon of NH, Rachel Brisson of South Paris and Eileen Ladd of Florida; two brothers, Charles Farris of Oxford and Larry Farris of Harrison and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by two brothers, Robert Vashaw and Ronnie Farris and a sister, Evelyn Austin.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, October 31 at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, 17 E. Main St., South Paris with Rev. Don Mayberry officiating.
Visiting hours were held at the Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, 45 Main St., South Paris on Saturday evening.
Burial will be at Fore Street Cemetery
in Oxford at the convenience of the family.

Mrs. Maxine A. Bean
NORWAY - Maxine A. Bean, 79, of Norway, died at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway on March 16, 2005 after a brief illness.
She was born at Milton Plantation on June 9, 1925, the daughter of Charles and Myrtle Taylor Clifford.
She was a graduate of Woodstock High School. She had worked for many years at the local shoe shop as a floor supervisor.
She was a member of the Good Sam Campers' Association and the Women's Auxiliary of Locke Mills.
She enjoyed snowmobiling and enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She has lived in the Norway area most all her life. She married Ernest Bean on June 25, 1944.
Mrs. Bean is survived by her husband of Norway; a daughter, Carol A. Richardson of Norway; a sister, Phyllis Lowe of West Paris; a brother, Donald Clifford of Dixfield; three grandchildren, Douglas Craig Richardson of Norway, Pamela Chaplin and Jessica Richardson, both of South Paris and two great-grandchildren, Riley Douglas Chaplin and Bryce Thomas Chaplin, both of South Paris.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 18 at Oxford Hills Funeral Services, 1037 Main Street, Oxford with the Rev. Donald Mayberry of the First Congregational Church of South Paris officiating. Family and friends attended a visitation Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. will be in the spring at the Lakeview Cemetery
in Norway. Arrangements under the direction of Oxford Hills Funeral Services, 1037 Main Street Oxford.
Mr. Clifford H. Gardner, Jr.
ROCKLAND - Clifford H. Gardner, Jr., 85, died Sunday, April 24, 2005, at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Togus after an extended illness.
Born in Brunswick, July 31, 1919, he was one of five children of Clifford H., Sr. and Marion Curran Gardner. After moving to Rockland at a young age, he was educated in local schools. During his high school years, Mr. Gardner worked as a messenger with Western Union and later as a bellboy at the Rockland Hotel.
In September of 1940, he enlisted in the Maine National Guard and served with the 240th Coast Artillery Harbor Defenses, stationed at Fort Williams in Cape Elizabeth.
On June 6, 1943, he married Blanche E. Collins at First Baptist Church, Rockland.
He served during World War II in the South Pacific with the 32nd Red Arrow Infantry Division.
Returning from military service, he lived a brief time in Portland before moving back to Rockland in 1946. At that time he worked with Van Baalens and First National Stores. In 1947 he began employment with Central Maine Power Company, retiring in 1984.
For more than 20 years he operated a custodial service, cleaning many banks and offices in Rockland.
Mr. Gardner's family said that he was a fierce patriot, a fervent prayer warrior and a devoted family man who was always excited to share his faith in his Lord.
He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Rockland and for the past several years was an active member of West Rockport Baptist Church; the Veterans of Foreign Wars Rockland Memorial Post #2499 Post and Winslow-Holbrook-Merritt American Legion Post No. 1, Rockland.
Besides his wife of 61 years, Mr. Gardner is survived by three sons, John Gardner and his wife Linda of South China, Reverend James Gardner and his wife Rebecca of Houlton and Joel M. Gardner, Sr. of Niceville, FL; one daughter, Janet Shaw and her husband James of South Paris; six grandchildren, Jonathan and Sarah Gardner, Tiffany, Jared and Benjamin Shaw and Joel M. Gardner, Jr.; one great-grandchild, Sawyer and several nieces.
Visiting hours were held from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, April 29 at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. A Celebration of Mr. Gardner's Home-Going was held at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 30 from the West Rockport Baptist Church, Park Street. The Reverend James Gardner officiated. Interment followed in West Rockport Cemetery.
Mr. Marshall W. Dresser
HARRISON - Marshall W. Dresser, 61, of Harrison died Monday, January 23, 2006 at Stephens Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Norway on September 14, 1944, the son of Wyman M. and Ida Belle Severance Dresser.
He lived at the family homestead all of his life. He attended Harrison schools and graduated from Norway High School.
He faithfully served his country in the U. S. Navy.
He was a carpenter, employed by S.A.D. 17 in the maintenance department for 17 years and also worked at the Harrison Transfer Station.
He was a third generation caretaker at Oakdale Cemetery. He enjoyed local youth and adult baseball and softball as well as playing bocce ball.
In 2005 Harrison merchants' team gave him an award for being their "Biggest Fan."
He liked tractors, cribbage and racing and was an animal lover.
Mr. Dresser is survived by two brothers, Roy of Harrison and Bruce of Norway; a sister, Beverly Whitman of Norway; nieces and nephews, Gerry Dresser and his fiancee Stacey Raymond of Bolsters Mills, Charlotte Bolduc of Arlington, MA, Bonnie Pedersen and her husband John of Whitefield, Tony Whitman and his wife Barbara of New York and Sheila Ernst and her husband Steve of Maryland and 11 grand-nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Donald and David.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 28 at Weston- Chandler Funeral Home, 230 Main St., Norway. Remembrance donations can be made to the Harrison Historical Society, P. O. Box 294 Harrison, ME 04040 or a charity of your choice.
Mrs. Leola Paine Chapman
MECHANIC FALLS - Leola Paine Chapman passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Wednesday, June 11, 2008.
She was born and raised in Mechanic Falls, the daughter of Charles and Christie Hunt Paine. She graduated from Mechanic Falls High School. After graduation she worked in Washington, DC for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. She went on to work at Marcal Paper Mill in Mechanic Falls then worked at and retired from WMTW TV station. She attended the Advent Christian Church in Mechanic Falls.
She married Robert W. Chapman, III on July 1, 1946. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life. Not only was she called Nana by her own family, but by any child that had the pleasure of being part of her life. She was known for her empathy, compassion and sense of humor, and her willingness to help anyone in need.
Mrs. Chapman is survived by her son, Robert Chapman IV and his wife Janis of Brunswick; daughters, Cathi Smith and her husband Ralph and Sonia Chapman Schnopp all of Mechanic Falls; a son-in-law, Thomas Herrick of Mechanic Falls; seven grandchildren, Stacia Chapman Gorey, Robert (Bo) Chapman V, Maya Chapman, Tisha Smith and Tobey Smith, Heath Herrick and Ashley Herrick Edwards; seven great grandchildren with one on the way; one great-great-granddaughter; a brother-in-law, Bill Libby of Mechanic Falls; a sister-in-law, Barbara Davis of Oxford and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert in 1993: a brother, Lawrence and five sisters, Louise, Leahtene, Leida, Luella and Lorraine.
Graveside services will be held on Sunday, June 22 at 2 p.m. at Gracelawn Memorial Park in Auburn.
Arrangements are under the direction of Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, 26 W. Dwinal St., Mechanic Falls.
Mr. Dale Everett Smith
BETHEL - Dale Everett Smith, 47, of Bethel, died unexpectedly on March 16, 2005.
He was born in Norway on June 20, 1957, the son of Lewis and Janice (Stearns) Smith. He was educated in local schools and had worked as a NELMA lumber grader and scaler most of his life, having worked for Smith & Son Lumber of Bethel, L.E. Davis Lumber of Bethel and for the past 18 years with White Mountain Lumber, retiring in December of 2004 to pursue his lifelong dream of going to Cosmetology school. At the time of his death he was attending Bernard's Cosmetology School in Lewiston. He was an avid NASCAR fan, an avid
hunter, fisherman, snowmobiler, ice fisherman and bow
hunter. He also owned and operated "Morning Star Maple," making maple syrup. He was a one-of-a-kind husband and father.
He is survived by his mother of Bethel; his wife of 26 years, Linda (Hamel) Smith of Bethel; one son, Jeremy Smith of Gilead; three daughters, Audrey Thibodeau of New Mexico, Amanda Curtis of Greenwood and Candi Smith of Bethel; one brother, Jeffery Smith of Los Angles, CA; four grandchildren, Felecia Curtis and Akayla Curtis both of Greenwood, Dakota Smith of Gilead and Logan Whitney of Bethel and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours were held at his residence on Saturday, 3-4 p.m., with a funeral service following at 4 p.m. with Keith Hamel officiating.
Memorials in Mr. Smith's name are requested to Linda Smith, P.O. Box 83, Bethel, ME 04217 to set up a scholarship for hair design in his name.
