Pauline C. Redlon

Pauline C. Redlon, 76 years, of Thompson Road, passed away August 30, 2010 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.

She was born April 6, 1934 in Lyman, ME the daughter of George and Aldia "Mary" Amnotte. Pauline was educated in the Saco school system and graduated from Thornton Academy.

On October 10, 1952, she married Ernest E. Redlon, Sr. of Kennebunk. Pauline and Ernie both worked at Kesslen Shoe and Keuffel and Esser in Kennebunk. Pauline then worked at Pratt & Whitney until her retirement in 1998. Together they raised their seven children.

Pauline is predeceased by her husband Ernest, and their daughter Tammy Folker, her parents and many brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her children Patricia Redlon of Old Orchard Beach, Brenda Spulick, Ernest E. Redlon, Jr., and Amy Redlon, all of West Kennebunk, Mark Redlon of Biddeford and Scott Redlon of Arundel; her sister Rachel Woodbury of Nashua, NH; 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great granddaughter as well as many nieces and nephews across the country.

A celebration of her life was held in her room at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House. Family members and staff shared stories and memories, sang favorite songs, laughed and cried together as they said their goodbyes to Pauline. Per her request, there will be no additional services.

Pauline's family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House for the compassionate support and care given to them and Pauline during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Pauline's memory can be made to the American Heart Association, 51 US Route One, Suite M, Scarborough, ME 04074 and/or Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, 11 Hunnewell Road, Scarborough, ME 04074.

Peter H. Hersey

Peter Hersey, a resident of Kennebunk Beach, ME, died peacefully at Gosnell Memorial Hospice on September 29, 2010. Peter was born in Boston, MA on March 16,1934 a son of Francis P. and Mary M. (Harris) Hersey.
Peter was a graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy and Princeton University , class of 1956 and was a member of Cottage Club. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1958.

Peter was an executive for the family business, Hersey Products Inc., a water meter manufacturer based in Dedham, MA. While working in the company's Los Angeles office, he earned an MBA from the University of Southern California in 1964. He moved to Dover, MA in 1969 with his family. He served on the board of South Boston Savings Bank for several years. After retiring from the family business, he served as the interim president of the bank in 1994.

After retiring, Peter and Judy moved to his family's summer cottage in Kennebunk Beach. Peter was a long-time member of Webhannet Golf Club in Kennebunk Beach, serving as club secretary for 17 years. He also served as treasurer of the Laudholm Trust, and on the boards of the Visiting Nurses Association and Southern Maine Medical Center.

Peter will be remembered by his family and his many friends for his cheerfulness, kindness, conviviality, and fine sense of humor, as well as his love of golf and the Red Sox.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Elizabeth Hatch, in 2007 and by his brother Bill in 1989.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Judy (Hofer), his son, Peter, Jr. of Randolph, MA, and his daughter, Laura and her husband Nicholas D’Aiello, of South Windsor, CT; a sister Nancy Paulson of Greenwich, CT, and his sister-in-law Kathleen Hofer of York, ME. Other family members are son-in-law David Hatch, nephews Nils and Eric Paulson, and Trip, Nick, and Christian Hofer. Peter was a devoted grandfather to Emily and Ben Hatch, and Mary Grace D’Aiello.

Memorial visitation will be held from 4 to 7 PM Sunday October 3, 2010 at the Bibber Memorial Chapel 67 Summer Street Kennebunk.
Memorial service will be held at 11 AM Monday October 4, 2010 St. David's Episcopal Church Route One South Kennebunk.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made in Peter's name be sent to the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, 11 Hunnewell Road, Scarborough, ME 04074.

Peter Reim

Biddeford, Maine

Peter Reim, of Biddeford, Maine was 90 years old when he passed away at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough on the morning of Sunday, April 25, 2010. He was predeceased by his wife Trudi who passed away on May 16, 1971. He is survived by his sister, Brigitte Reim, also of Biddeford; two sons, Berni of West Newfield, Arni and his wife Cathy of Kennebunk; four grandchildren and their spouses, Tracy and Todd MacPhee of Saco, John and Kev Boyd of Old Orchard, Tom Boyd and Kelly Ryan of Old Orchard, Destinie and Daniel Ryan of Duxbury, Massachusetts and 7 great grandchildren.

Peter was born in Stettin, Germany, now Sczcecin, Poland on May 17, 1919. He lived most of his younger years in Riga, Latvia and also attended school there. He served in World War II and emigrated to the United States in 1952. He lived in Little Rock, Arkansas when he first arrived in the U.S. and later lived in New Jersey, Maine, North Carolina, and Virginia before finally returning to Maine.

His family would like to extend sincere thanks to the staff at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough who, with such compassion and understanding, cared for Peter in his final days.

No services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, c/o Hospice of Southern Maine, 180 U.S. Route One, #1, Scarborough, ME 04074; or York Hospital, 15 Hospital Drive, York, ME 03909, Attn: Jud Knox.

Phyllis Redmond Cluff

Goose Rocks Beach, Kennebunkport, Maine

Phyllis Redmond Cluff, 93, of Goose Rocks Beach, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 16 at home where she wished to be.

She was born in Needham, MA on May 12, 1916 to Clarence Arthur and Alberta (Cassidy) Redmond. She came to Maine in 1931 and graduated in 1933 from Kennebunkport High School with 10 other graduates.

Phyllis married Donald Nelson Cluff on February 12, 1934. They made their home at Goose Rocks Beach and had three daughters, Ellie, Pat and Donna.

Phyllis worked in the food service and hospitality industry. She worked at Allen’s by the Sea for many years (which is now The Tides Inn at Goose Rocks Beach). Over the years, she helped open up, clean and close down cottages at Goose Rocks Beach for numerous families, plus help with meals and bookkeeping. She was the cafeteria manager at Consolidated School in Kennebunkport for 20 years and now her granddaughter Bert is a “lunch lady” there.

Phyllis worked and volunteered for many years at Camp Waban in Sanford, Maine, which was an extended family for her. She was very passionate about what they stood for. She worked at the Shawmut Inn in Kennebunkport in several departments. She so enjoyed her work there. Phyllis loved the people she worked with and for and the guests she met over the years.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 159 of Kennebunkport and the 8 and 40.

Phyllis was a devoted bird lover, feeding them year round and doing bird counts. She loved to play beano and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox.

Phyllis always remembered the times she got to spend at the Port Hole in Mt. Abram and the group trips she went on. She would say that those people knew how to enjoy life, have fun and laugh.

She will be greatly missed.

Phyllis was predeceased by her husband Donald in 1967, her daughters Ellie Moulton in 1993 and Pat Welch in 2007; her siblings Arthur Redmond in 2002, Ruth Phillips in 2008 and Clare Whitten in 2009; and grandson Justin Chabot.

She leaves behind her daughter Donna Lee Cluff of Buxton, her sister Beryl Bilderback of Cape Porpoise, her son-n-law James Welch of Kennebunk; her grandchildren Bert (Roberta) Austin and her husband Michael of Cape Porpoise, Michael Moulton and his wife Barbara of Brownfield, Ruth Ann Lovejoy and her husband Leon of Kennebunk, Donna Welch of Kennebunk, Thomas Welch and his wife Caryl of Hampton, NH and Jeffrey Welch of Melbourne, FL; her great-grandchildren Mike Austin of Cape Porpoise, Matthew Moulton of Old Orchard Beach, Heidi Lovejoy of Topsham, Sasha Cassidy and Dylan Lovejoy of Kennebunk, Thomas J. Welch and Jacob Chabot of Hampton, NH.

Her family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at Southern Maine Medical Center, St. Andrés Nursing home, her doctor Charles Parent, Judy, Sue and Pat of the Kennebunkport Town Nurses, all the staff at Seal Rock Health Care and everyone from Beacon Hospice for all you did and the compassion you showed Phyllis throughout the years and especially these last four months. Bless you all!

Visiting hours will be on Monday, April 19, 2010 from 6-8PM at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk. A private graveside service will be held at Arundel cemetery where she will be buried alongside her husband.

Should friends desire, donations in Phyllis’ memory can be made to Camp Waban Association, 5 Dunaway Drive, Sanford, ME 04073.

Ralph N. Strickland, 83, of Wells, died on December 22, 2008.

A graveside service with Military Honors will be held at 10 AM on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at the Southern Maine Veterans cemetery on Stanley Road in Springvale, ME.

Rawlston Erwin Clark
March 20, 2010
Biddeford, Maine

Rawlston Erwin Clark, 87, of Alfred Road, died Saturday, March 20, 2010 at his residence. He was born in Kennebunk on November 12, 1922, the son of Roscoe and Ethel M. (Page) Clark. He was educated locally and was a life long resident of Kennebunk.

In 1942, Rawlston enlisted in the US Navy, and served as a coxswain aboard LST 375. He saw action in Northern Africa and Salerno, Italy.

After his discharge from active duty in 1945, he returned home to Kennebunk, where he met and, on November 13th, 1949, married the love of his life, the former Dorothy Brooks. Together, they raised 4 children and enjoyed 54 years of marriage until her death in 2004.

Rawlston worked for many years as a Finishing Carpenter, specializing in cabinet making. In later years, he produced many, many birdhouses and feeders. He also enjoyed fiddling around in his workshop. Rawlston loved going to the beach, an almost daily ritual which he enjoyed together with Dorothy. He would stop by Deering Lumber on a regular basis, just to see what might be on sale, to see what others were buying, and to offer his advice and expertise to anyone who might happen by. Rawlston always had a story to share, no matter the subject. He will be fondly remembered in and around town for the red trucks he always drove.

In addition to Dorothy, he was predeceased by a daughter, Ethel Walker, in 2009.

Survivors include three daughters, Edith Thomas of Sanford, Barbara Decelles and her husband Roland of Biddeford, Carol Jamison and her husband Charles of Saco; his son-in-law Warren Walker of Arundel; and many, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

There are no calling hours. A graveside service with military honors will be held on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in Pine Grove Cemetery, West Kennebunk, where he and Dorothy will be buried together. Arrangements are in care of Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk.

Raymond C. Thyng

Arundel, Maine

Raymond C. Thyng, 86 years, a resident of Limerick Road, Arundel died peacefully at his home, Wednesday, December 23, 2009 surrounded by his family.

He was born April 11, 1923, the fourth sibling of 16 children of Grover C. and Virgie N. (Newcomb) Thyng.

He graduated from Kennebunk High School and served in the US Army during WWII where he was stationed at Ft. Ord in California. After the war, he was employed by the former Christensen Ford of Kennebunk as a mechanic for over 20 years, then he worked for Andrews Enterprises for several years. After his retirement, he worked at odd jobs and small engine repair at his home.

Raymond enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the York Lodge of West Kennebunk and Odd Fellows and Rebekahs of Kennebunk where he was a 50 year member and a past Grand Master of Maine in 1995

Mr. Thyng was predeceased by his wife Mildred (Andrews) Thyng; two brothers Clarence and Donald Thyng; four sisters Lillian Mathews, Evelyn Court, Betty Lovewell and Phyllis Smith and by his son-in-law Raymond Bolduc.

He is survived by his son James Thyng and his wife Debbie of Arundel; one daughter Janice Bolduc of West Kennebunk; four grandchildren, Tasha and Joshua Thyng and Anthony and Eric Bolduc and his wife Alicia; one great-grandchild, Libby Bolduc; three brothers John Thyng of Kennebunk, Sherman Thyng of Lyman, Robert Thyng of FL; four sisters Pauline Morrill of Waterboro, Barbara Burns of Alfred, Ruth Andrews of Kennebunk and Gloria Foss of FL and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visiting hours will be held from 6-8PM Sunday, December 27, 2009 at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk with an Odd Fellows and Rebekah Service being held at 7:30. A funeral service will be held at 11AM Monday, December 28, 2009 at the chapel. Interment will be in Arundel Cemetery.

Richard Henry “Rich” Lee

Richard Henry “Rich” Lee, 64, of Royal Heights, died Saturday, April 3, 2010 at Southern Maine Medical Center following a battle with cancer. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on August 31, 1945, a son of James Emery and Florence G. (Curtin) Lee. He grew up in Merrimack, MA, then moved to California. He lived in Alaska for a few years before returning to the East Coast, and had many adventurous stories about his life there.

Rich was introduced to his future wife, Jeannette, by her sister with whom he worked. They were married on March 15, 1968 and enjoyed 42 years together.

Rich was employed as an inspector at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, retiring after 25 years on the job. In his retirement, he worked part time at the Xtra Mart in Wells.

Rich enjoyed computer games, crossword puzzles, a good game of cribbage, and the New England Patriots. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus (3rd degree), and the Elks Lodge.

He was predeceased by his 2 brothers, James Lee, Jr., and Robert E. Lee.

Survivors include his loving wife Jeannette of Wells; 2 sons, Scott Lee and his wife Melanie of Saco, and Michael Lee and his wife Holly of Fort Devens, MA; his daughter, Andrea Lee of Melrose, MA; 2 sisters, Johannah Eubanks of NC, and Patricia Gifford of OH; and 4 grandchildren.

Calling hours will be on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road, Wells. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Parish/St. Mary’s Church, 236 Eldridge Road, Wells. Burial will follow in Ocean View Cemetery, Wells. Arrangements are in care of Bibber Memorial Chapel.

Robert Ernest Messinger

Robert Ernest Messinger, 78 years of Kennebunk passed away Friday, January 1, 2010 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House after a long illness.

Robert was born December 7, 1931 in Ayer, Massachusetts, the son of George E. and Sarah (McGrath) Messinger.

He was a graduate of Everett High School, class of 1951. Robert served in the Korean War in the United States Air Force.

He was a past president of the Boston Chapter of the American Society of Professional Estimators, a Masonic member of the North Reading Lodge A.F. & A.M., and North Reading DeMolay, and a past member of the Union Congregational Church of North Reading, MA, serving on many committees. Robert was also active in the North Reading Little League.

Robert enjoyed traveling, spending time with family, his grandchildren, and his many friends.

He was predeceased by a grandson, Ryan J. Messinger, a brother George E. Messinger, Jr., and a sister Rowena Doucette.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Geraldine (Larson) Messinger of Kennebunk; two sons Craig Messinger and his wife Jennifer of Raymond, ME and Jeffrey Messinger of Phoenix, AZ; a sister Beverly Miller and her husband Frederick of Lansing, MI; one granddaughter Meghan Messinger; two grandsons, Alex and Eric Messinger of Phoenix, AZ; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial visitation will be held Friday, January 8, 2010 from 6-8PM at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk with a Masonic service held at 7 PM with the North Reading Lodge members. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 11AM at the Wells Congregational Church, Post Road, Wells with Rev. Herbert Henry officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Robert’s name can be made to the Wells Congregational Church, PO Box 759, Wells, ME 04090; or to Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, c/o Hospice of Southern Maine, 180 U.S. Route One, #1, Scarborough, ME 04074.
