Robert M. Palmer

Robert M. Palmer died January 4, 2007, after a brief illness. Mr. Palmer was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and grew up in the suburb of Brookline.

He graduated from Columbia University and served in the U.S. Army.

Most of his career was with the Polaroid Corporation in Cambridge, Massachusetts where he became Director of Corporate Relations. For six years he served the Commonwealth as Chairman of the Governor’s Advisory Committee on Corrections, first appointed by the late Governor Francis Sargent. He left Polaroid in 1981 and after several positions in the field of corporate relations, left Boston and settled in Ogunquit, Maine where he became an active participant in the community.

He joined the York County Coast Star where he wrote a weekly column, “Just Neighbors”.

He leaves a brother, Charles of Wayland, MA, a sister, Judith Muggia of Winchester, MA, and a brother, E. Samuel of Arlington, MA. In addition, he leaves his former wife, Barbara and their son, Robert of Connecticut, daughter, Catherine of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and three grandchildren, Cameron, Erik, and Grant.

Services will be private.

Robert W. Gould, Sr.

Robert W. Gould Sr, age 77 years a resident of the Port Rd Kennebunk, Me and Oakhurst, N. J. died Friday Sept 8 at the Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford, Me. He is the husband of Elaine Baum Gould. They were married for over fifty-five years.

Mr. Gould was born in Portland, Maine July 9, 1929 a son of George R. and Wyonna Strout Gould. He graduated from Deering High School and attended Bowdoin College. He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War and was an instructorat the signal school at Fort Monmouth, N.J.where he ritired after 30 years as the head of New Equipment Training. While working at Fort Monmouth he attended and graduated from Monmouth University with a degree in Physics.

In his youth he worked as a motion picture operator with his Dad and later at the former Brunswick and Eatontown, Drive In Theaters. In addition to his 30 years of Civil Service he always worked on his pasion for inventing and holds one U.S. patent.

He is survived by his wife Elaine Baum Gould of Kennebunk and Oakhurst, N.J. one daughter Wendy L. Gould of Sparta, N.J, two sons Robert W. Gould Jr. of Oakhurst, N.J., Michael W. Gould and his wife Kimberly Gould of Kennebunk.a brother Philip Gould and his wife Trish of Rochester, N.H. Five Grandchildren , Samantha, Mikey, Danny, Jacob and Faith, one niece and two nephews also survive.

Friends may call at the Bibber Memorial Chapel 67 Summer St. Kennebunk Monday evening from 6 to 8 PM. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 Am at the Bibber Chapel with the Rev. James King officiating the service. Interment in Evergreen Cemetery.

Ronette Evershed Stoddard

Kennebunk- Ronette Evershed Stoddard, 54 years, of Grasshopper Lane, died September 14 after a courageous battle with cancer, lovingly surrounded by her family.

Ronette was born July 14, 1952 in Leighton Buzzard, England the daughter of Lawrence and Marguerite Evershed. She has lived in the United States since she was 12 years old.

Ronette was from childhood deeply in love with the natural world, and with the underlying mystery of life and consciousness. She was a passionate advocate on behalf of animals, an ordained interfaith chaplain, and a councilor with an extensive practice, which touched people all around the world. Ronette held her family, her home and gardens, and her friends closely in her heart, and gave unsparingly of love, kindness, and beauty to all.

Her loving husband Dan Stoddard; daughter Mareike Muszynski, 31; sons Morgan Chisolm, 21 and Robin Stoddard, 18, survive Ronette.

Friends may call from 6-8 PM on Tuesday September 19 at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday September 20 at 10 AM at St. Martha’s Church in Kennebunk with Father Laurent LaPlante. Interment will follow in Hope Cemetery.

Russell F. Mountford

Russell F. Mountford 83, a resident of Rollins Lane, Kennebunk formerly of Livingston and Boonton Township, New Jersey and Fairfield, Conn. died Tuesday May 16, 2006 at the Maine Medical Center in Portland of heart failure.

Russell was born in Brooklyn, New York on March 27, 1923 a son of W. Ernest and Helen (Borgenson) Mountford and graduated from Columbia High School the class of 1941 in South Orange, New Jersey.

He proudly served with the United States Navy aboard the USS Riddle DE#185 as a fire control man in the South Pacific during WWII.

He came back from the war and started as a mechanic with the Otis Elevator Co. and then became a salesman in New York City and Stamford Conn. after 38 years with the company he retired.

He was an avid fisherman and he also enjoyed hunting, gardening and sailing.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years Ann Potenzo Mountford of Kennebunk, ME, a son Douglas Mountford and his wife Lorna of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, a daughter Pamela Dempsey and her husband John of Biddeford Pool, ME, two brothers Robert E Mountford of Sebastian, FL and Donald F Mountford of Smoke Rise, NJ, a sister Jene Hopping of Florham Park, NJ and four grandchildren Brooke and Austin Dempsey, Cooper and Skylar Mountford.

A celebration of his life will be held at Huntington Common 100 Common Dr. from 2 to 4 pm on May 25, 2006 and another in New Jersey in July 2006.

Should friends desire a memorial donation may be made to the Destroyer Escort Historical Museum, USS Slater DE-766, P.O. Box 1926, Albany, NY 12201-1926 in Russell Mountford’s memory.

Ruth Eileen Ward, 95yrs, a resident of Norway formerly of Wells died December 24, 2006 at the Norway Rehabilitation Center, Norway.

She was born on December 14, 1911 in Goffs, Nova Scotia the daughter of William John and Elsie Ann (Meagher) McMichael.

She attended Franklin, MA schools and was employed for J.J. Newbury CO. as a sales clerk for many years.

She was the wife of Late Reverend Edward E. Ward, former pastor of the Kennebunk Baptist Church. While she was living in Kennebunk, she was employed at the Scottish Corner in Kennebunkport for several years.

She was a member of the Kennebunk Baptist Church for over 40 yrs.

She was the sister of the late Harold, Roy, Basil and Grant McMichael, Blanche Fleming, Marion Fleming, Ethel Wood and Della Parker.

She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great- grandchildren

She is survived by her son Gilbert Ward of Chesterville, Maine and her daughter Janice Randlett of Westwood, MA, 5 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held from 10 to 11 AM Saturday December 30, 2006 at the Bibber Memorial Chapel 67 Summer Street Kennebunk.
A Service of Celebration will be held at 11 AM at the Chapel with the Reverend James King officiating.
Interment will be in Ocean View cemetery Wells.

In lieu of flowers, Donation may be made in Ruth’s memory to the Norway Rehabilitation and Living Center 29 Marion Avenue, Norway, Maine 04268.

Ruth Frances Douglas

Mrs. Ruth F. (nee Weiler) Douglas, 83, of Kennebunk, retired director of communications for Ratheon Company’s Wayland, Mass., plant, died at the Southern Maine Medical Center, Biddeford, on Thursday, after a long illness.

Born in Boston, Mrs. Douglas was the daughter of Mr. And Mrs. William Weiler and was a graduate of Jeremiah Burke High School and Chamberlain Junior College. She was an enthusiastic ballet dancer and figure skater in her younger years and an ardent animal lover throughout her life. She was an executive for Ratheon for 30 years. Before moving to Maine when she and her husband, George A. Douglas, retired, Mrs. Douglas lived in Wayland.

She is survived by her husband, a son, George A. Douglas III, three nieces, Mrs. Francis Healey, Mrs. Charles Golden, Mrs. Stephen Barrett, all of Braintree, and two nephews, William Weiler of Plymouth, Mass and Edward Weiler of Braintree.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk, ME 04043.

Sherman C. Bonney, Jr.

Sherman C. Bonney, Jr., 75, of Cat Mousam Road, died Saturday afternoon, July 29, 2006 at Southridge Rehabilitation and Living Center following a brief illness. He was born in Monmouth, Maine on April 14, 1931, the son of Sherman C., Sr. and Freda Mae (Slauenwhite) Bonney. He attended Monmouth schools, and earned an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice and a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from the University of Maine at Augusta.

He proudly served his country in the US Air Force during the Korean and Vietnam eras, retiring in May 1968 after 20 years of service.

He married Charlotte Mae Coombs in 1974.

Sherman served as Chief of Police for the towns of York Beach, Kennebunkport, and Winthrop, Maine from September 1968 through December 1978. He earned his Chief of Police certification from the Maine Criminal Justice Academy, and was also certified by the Maine Department of Public Safety. He was a life member of the Maine Chiefs of Police Association and the New England Association of Chiefs of Police.

He retired from Federal Civil Service in January 1993 as an Electronics Technical Representative for the United State’s Navy’s Naval aviation Engineering Service Unit (NAESU) detachment, Marine Corps Air Station, Beaufort, South Carolina with thirty two years combined federal service.

Sherman was a member and Past Master of Ocean Lodge No. 142, AF&AM, Wells, Maine; member of Royal Arch Masons, Murray Chapter No. 33, Kennebunk, Maine; member of Scottish Rite Bodies in the Valley of Portland, Maine; member of KORA Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. Provost Corps, Lewiston, Maine.

He was Past Commander of American Legion Post 9, Beaufort, SC; member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 8760; member of AMVETS Post No. 70; and a life member of Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 12. Additionally, he was a member of the Parris Island Golf Club, MCRD, Parris Island, SC.

Survivors include:
his loving wife of 32 years, Charlotte Bonney of Kennebunk
2 surviving children: Carolyn Freda Bonney-Viger of Turner, Maine
Beverly Jean Bonney-Black of Jacksonville, NC
7 grandchildren

There are no visiting hours. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. If desired, memorial donations may be made in his name to:

Suzanne H. 'Sandy' Leffler

Suzanne H. (Sandy) Leffler, 70 years, passed away suddenly on Saturday, August 19, 2006 at Maine Medical Center following a brief illness.

She was born on July 8, 1936 in Mamaroneck, NY, the daughter of Nathan and Betty Hinck. Sandy grew up in Mamaroneck and in Danbury, CT and received her college degree at Bridgeport University.

In 1958 she married Walter Leffler and they had two children, Nancy and Walter, Jr.

Sandy had a successful career in the jewelry profession, designing and repairing estate quality jewelry. She retired in 1999.

She was an active volunteer, doing work for Southern Maine Medical Center, Laudholm Trust, and the American Diabetes Association.

Sandy was an avid reader and had a great passion and knowledge of art and antiques. She will be most remembered for her love of family and friends, and always derived joy from giving to others.

Surviving her are her husband of 48 years Walter; daughter Nancy Mikulich and her husband Marc; son Walter Jr. and his wife Pam; and granddaughters Valentina and Natasha Mikulich.

A memorial service will be held at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road, Wells, ME on August 22 at 1 PM.
