William Eugene Meeks

Wells

William Eugene Meeks, 82, of Wells, formerly of Massachusetts, who resided in Gulf of Bay Park in Inglewood, Fla., during the winters, died Friday, March 19, 2004 at Maine Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

He was born April 6, 1921 in Towns, Ga. He graduated from Tampa High School.

He was a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force Navigator Glider Pilot.

He parachuted from a burning plane and landed on a fence in a field.

During his year in recovery at a hospital, he met his wife of fifty-nine years, Estelle, in Sioux City, Iowa, where she was in the Woman's Army Corp. On Feb. 11, 1945, they married.

He was awarded a Bachelor's Degree in Textile Engineering from Rhode Island School of Design in 1955.

Five of his children were present at his graduation.

He worked in sales at John Hancock Insurance.

He was also self-employed in real estate for thirty years owning Harmony Homes Real Estate for fifteen years and the owner of a grocery store.

He enjoyed golf, loved to square dance, which he did for over thirty-five years, was a past President and Officer of the Yankee Twirlers of Woburn, Mass.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Carolyn Kfoury, a brother and a sister.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years; his sons, William E. Meeks, Jr. of Peabody, Mass. and John W. Meeks and Michael E. Meeks both of Oakland, Calif.; his daughters, Sharon Anaclario of Richmond, Calif., Samantha Legare of Medford, Mass. and Janice Borris of Marmora, N.J. and eleven grandchildren.

Friends may call on Sunday, March 21 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road, Wells.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, March 22 at 11 a.m. at the Chapel.

Yvonne Fortier

Yvonne Fortier 95 years a resident of Pool Road Biddeford formerly of Berwick and Somersworth, NH died Wednesday at the St. Andre’s Health Care, Biddeford, Me after a long illness.

She was born in Somersworth, NH on February 14, 1909 a daughter of Joseph and Lumina St. Laurent Fortier. She attended Somersworth Schools.

Yvonne was employed by the Roberts Shoe Company of Somersworth for over 50 years.

She was predeceased by her parents and her sister Irene Landrey.

She leaves several close freinds.

Visiting hours will be held from 9:30 to 10: 30 Monday April 5, 2004 at the Laing-Bibber Funeral Home 36 Rochester Street Berwick with a Funeral Mass following 11 Am at the Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Berwick with the Rev. Hilary Cameron officiating.

Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Berwick later in spring.

Anita Gunnel Peterson

Anita Gunnel Peterson, age 62, a resident of Coventry Woods, Kennebunk, formerly of Kingston, NH died Sunday, Nov 30, at her home after a long battle with cancer.

Mrs. Peterson was born January 15, 1941 in Sweden, a daughter of Bernt and Kersten Moden.
She was educated in Sweden and licensed as a Registered Nurse before moving to California in 1962. It was there she married her husband Stanley David Peterson November 22, 1963. They lived Colorado until 1971 when they moved to Kingston, NH. Having enjoyed their travels through Kennebunk, they decided to retire here earlier this year. They recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. Mrs. Peterson is a member of the First Congregational Church in Kingston and is very devout in her faith. She was an avid hiker and talented quilter. She enjoyed spending time with her family and especially her grandson.

Anita is survived by her husband of 40 years, Stanley David Peterson; a daughter and son-in-law Carina and Stephen DiNapoli of Ipswich, MA; three brothers Ingemor, Lars, and Mats Moden all of Sweden; a sister Eva Axelson also in Sweden; and her grandson Aaron DiNapoli.

A memorial service will be held in Kingston, NH at a later date.

Arthur (Terry) Garland

Arthur (Terry) Raymond Garland, III - 56

Arthur (Terry) Raymond Garland, III was born on March 13, 1947 in White Plains, New York. Terry passed away suddenly on November 22nd. He was predeceased, just two months earlier, by his wife of 32 years, Linda Patterson Garland, 54.

Terry was the first child of Arthur and June Garland. Arthur, June and Terry resided in White Plains New York until moving to Scotia, NY. His father, Arthur, was a writer and producer for the local television station. Terry attended local schools and was an avid baseball and basketball player.

Terry went south for college, first attending Georgia Military College, where he earned an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration. Terry then transferred to Georgia College and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 1971. Terry entered the Army through an ROTC scholarship in 1971. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1986 with the rank of Captain.

It was at college where Terry and his future wife, Linda met on a blind date. They dated for three and one half years before marrying in 1971. The love they had for each other was deep, and Linda’s recent passing was heart wrenching for Terry.

Terry’s parents owned a cottage at Goose Rocks Beach where the family summered every year. Many of Terry’s childhood memories involved Goose Rocks Beach, and these memories drew Terry to this area with his wife, Linda in 1973.

Terry worked as a Mortgage Officer at Kennebunk Savings Bank for 6 years before being employed as a State Manager and Assistant Vice President of Commonwealth Land Title Insurance Company for over 10 years. After Commonwealth, Terry was involved in various business ventures before retiring recently.

Terry and Linda had two children, Jinny in 1978 and Todd in 1981. Terry found great pleasure being with his children and was an attentive and loving father. His children and wife were his life. He thoroughly enjoyed watching Jinny and Todd’s sports competitions. The family had many memorable boating excursions in the search for marsh heather. Goose Rocks Beach continued to hold a special place in Terry and Linda’s heart. It was a special place they frequented with their children and a place where they found peace.

Terry was involved throughout the years in various clubs and organizations. He was a past member of the York Rotary Club, American Cancer Society and the Town of Arundel planning board. Terry was an instrumental person in the group that brought Little League to the Kennebunks. Terry coached all the Little League Baseball and Basketball teams that Todd played on through grade school. Terry found great pleasure coaching children and bringing the opportunity of Little League to this area.

Terry was a kind and loving person who would do anything for his family. He was an avid sports fan, baseball card collector, and enjoyed music. Terry loved playing the drums, which he took up in high school, and continued to play quite regularly. Terry, Todd and Jinny occasionally played together; both Terry and Todd on the drums and Jinny on the tenor saxophone. Terry was in his glory during these jam sessions.

Terry is survived by his daughter, Jinny Garland Sass of Dade City, Florida; a son Todd Garland of Cape Porpoise; a brother Fred Garland of Ogunquit; a brother Peter Garland of Harrisburg, PA; many family members and friends.

A service will be held on Saturday, November 30th at 3:00 PM at the Church on the Cape in Cape Porpoise. In lieu of flowers, donations in Terry’s name may be sent to: Kennebunk-Kennebunkport Little League, P.O. Box 1116, Kennebunk, ME 04043

Brenda Anita Powers

Brenda Anita Powers, 62, of Pool Street, Biddeford died Monday at the Southern Maine Medical Center.

Brenda was born December 3, 1940 in Biddeford, Maine, the daughter of Frank and Gladys Hilton. She graduated from Biddeford High School.

Brenda is remembered by many as the owner of Half-Pint Daycare.

She enjoyed spending time with all the children and their families.

Brenda also enjoyed spending time with her own family.

She was a devoted wife to Edmond. Brenda also enjoyed antiquing.

Brenda was predeceased by her son, Alan Hall, and her sister Gloria Perry.

She is survived by her husband Edmond; two brothers, Dennis and Bruce Hilton; and nine sisters, Sharon Jackson, Sheila McMahon, Rebecca Valencia, Nancy Burns, Donna Jellison, Sandra Spicer, Robin McDonald, Tammy Hilton, and Terry Baird; many nephews and nieces.

Friends may call at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk on Thursday, November 13, 2003 from 6 to 8 PM. A memorial service will be held at Christ Church on Dane Street, Kennebunk on Friday at 11 AM with the Reverend Steve Hastings presiding. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Kennebunk.

Evelynn H. W. Bennett

Evelynn H. W. Bennett, 85 years a resident of Green Valley, Arizona formerly of Kennebunk, ME and Haverhill, MA. died Nov. 19, 2003 after a brief illness. She was the widow of William R. Bennett, Jr.

Mrs. Bennett was born in Haverhill, MA the daughter of W. Fred and Mildred Hodgdon Wildes.

She attended Haverhill Schools and Graduated from Katherine Gibbs School, Boston, MA.

Evelynn loved gardening and Traveling especially in the West, Canadian Rockies and the Pacific Northwest.

She was predeceased by her husband William, a brother Ralph Wildes in 1993.

Private Memorial Services were held.

George Perreault

George H. Perreault 52 years a resident of Cranberry Meadow Road, Berwick died Sunday November 9, 2003 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Biddeford, Me. on April 2, 1951 a son of Wilfred R. Perreault and Coronna LaPanne Thibeault.

He graduated from Dover HS in 1969 and Concord Tech College and University Of Southern Maine.

He was a quality control engineer for Heidleburgh Web System.

Mr. Perreault was a member of the Berwick Fire Dept. from 1979-1986, a pilot of the Strawberry Patch RC of Sanford, ME, and a member of the Folk Group for the Our lady of Peace for 24 yrs.

He enjoyed his family, fishing, camping, flying, his music and guitar.

He was predeceased by his father Wilfred Perreault and sister, Delina Sewall, and brother-in-law, Frank Sewall.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Christine Turmelle, his mother Coronna Thibeault, two sons George Jr. and Thomas W. and one daughter Elisabeth A., all of Berwick, nephew Frank Sewall & wife Renee, two children Madison and Jordan, nephew Jerry Lanoie wife Kelly and one child Hanna Michelle, niece Delina Bilodeau her husband Norman, niece Michelle Foster, Auntie Delina Perreault, sister-in-law Carmen Leary, brother-in-law Ralph and David Turmelle, “His Rosy” and “His buddy – Paul Lanoie”

Several nieces, nephews, aunts uncles and friends.

Visiting hours will be held Tuesday November 11, 2003 from 6:00 – 9:00, PM at the Laing – Bibber Funeral Chapel 36 Rochester Street, Berwick, ME.

Funeral Mass will be held 11AM Wednesday, November 12, 2003 at the Our Lady of Peace, Berwick.

Interment will be in St. Michael cemetery Rollinsford NH.

James Leo Doherty, 84, of Kennebunk died Friday at the Maine Veteran’s Home in Scarborough surrounded by his family.

James was born Lowell, Massachussetts on May 14, 1919 the son of Francis and Mary Geary Doherty.

After graduating from Lowell High School, James went on to earn his college degree by attending both Lowell Community College and Boston University.

James served our country during World War II in the U.S. Navy.

After leaving the Service, James worked for the U.S. Government in Washington D. C. in the Department of Commerce as a manager.

James was an active member of St. Martha’s Church.

James enjoyed his family and traveling.

He was always involved in some kind of community service.

He is predeceased by his brother, Francis Doherty.

He is survived by his wife, Estelle; his son and daughter-in-law, James M. and Denise Doherty; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa F. and Marc Brown; and two grandchildren, Austin and Abaigeal.

A funeral mass will be held Monday, November 17 at 11 AM at St. Martha’s Church in Kennebunk with Father LaPlante presiding.

Joseph Chesnel, 90, resident of Bradford on the Common, formerly of Deer Run Drive, Wells, died November 22, 2003 in Kennebunk.

He was born in Springvale, Maine on December 7, 1913, the son of Elzear and Eva (Bernier) Chesnel.

He graduated from Sanford High School.

After moving to Connecticut, he was employed at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford for 36 years: he retired in 1978 and returned to Maine.

He was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Helen (Moore)Chesnel, and two sisters and one brother.

He is survived by one daughter, Linda Santoro of Annapolis, Maryland and two grandchildren.

Private service will be held Tuesday at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, Wells.

Interment will be in Ocean View Cemetery, Wells.

Marie L. Sevigney

Marie L. Sevigney a former resident of Candlewood Lane in Moody, Maine died Tuesday, November 25, 2003 at The Kennebunk Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Marie was 92 years old and the widow of Albert J. Sevigney who died in 1993.

Marie was born on September 3, 1911 in Biddeford Maine.

She was the daughter of Alphonse and Amaryllis Cote and attended the Biddeford schools.

Marie and her husband Albert owned the Bellevue House of Wells Beach and operated it until their retirement in 1975.

They were active in the business and social community and enjoyed ballroom dancing at the former Wells Beach Casino often winning awards.

Marie was an active communicant of St. Mary’s Church of Wells, Maine and a member of The Women’s Altar Sodality.

She is survived by her son Leonard Sevigney of Wells and her daughter Diane Jandebeur of Ogunquit, Maine.

Three grandsons and two grand daughters will remember her as a loving and sweet grandmother.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:00 P.M. on Friday November 28, 2003 at St. Mary’s Church on Eldridge Road in Wells, Maine.

Reverend Joseph Ford will officiate and Interment will be in Ocean View cemetery in Wells, Maine
