Maureen Dale Harnden, age 68, of South Portland, Maine, died Friday, May 28, 2004, at Maine Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born February 26, 1936 in Boston MA the daughter of Daniel and Roberta (Sherburne) Baker.

She attended Cambridge schools and graduated from Wakefield High School.

She moved to New London, CT and lived there for 10 years before moving to Kennebunk to be closer to her family.

She was employed as a Comptroller at Components, Inc. in Kennebunk for over 25 years.

Maureen then decided to further her education by attending the University of Southern Maine as an Art and Library Science major.

She also worked at Walmart as a sales associate for over 6 years.
A real movie buff, Maureen also enjoyed reading, her flower garden, feeding and watching the birds and spending time with her family.

She is predeceased by a son Kevin R. Harnden in 1989.
She is survived by one son Keith R. Harnden and a daughter Kim Laurel Taylor of Industry, ME

Two sisters Diane P. Emery of Arundel and Margie R. Nickerson of Belfast, Maine

Seven grandchildren Erin A., Nathaniel R., Nicholas J. and Sarah E. Taylor, Gregory, Kevin and Sean Harnden.

Private Interment will be at Evergreen cemetery in Kennebunk, Maine

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1 Main Street, Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086-1246.

Maurice E. Drew

Maurice E Drew 76yrs a resident of Arundel, passed away Thursday, December 11th, 2003 at his home in Arundel, ME.

He died peacefully, surrounded by family and beloved pets, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Maurice was born on July 17, 1927 in Dover, New Hampshire the son of Herbert L. and Lavena Drew.

The family later moved to North Kennebunkport, ME where Maurice attended Kennebunk High School.

During WWII, he joined the Merchant Marines and served aboard a Liberty ship throughout the South Pacific.

Maurice married Pauline Johnson on April 20, 1946.

He worked with his father in Lumbering operations and was employed by Profenno Construction Company and Maine Building Specialties of Portland.

He later worked for Overhead Door Company of Portland, Maine and Portsmouth, New Hampshire for 34 years until his retirement in 1995.

He served proudly as a firefighter with the Arundel Volunteer Fire Department for many years and was active as a member of the local Boys Scout.

Maurice enjoyed Hunting, Fishing and working in the woods. He managed his own wood lot, providing his family with a constant supply of firewood and more recently lumber, which he milled himself. He took great pleasure in tending to the Maintenance of his home and property.

Maurice also cultivated many vegetable gardens over the years.

Maurice was predeceased by his parents and his brother Donald L. Drew.

Maurice is survived by his wife of 57 years Pauline Johnson Drew of Arundel, two sons Richard E. Drew of Otisfield, Maine and Kenneth R. Drew of Portland, Maine, his sister Eleanor Garnett of Arundel. Two granddaughters Brittany Madore and Chelsea Bundy both of Otisfield, ME and a great-granddaughter Goldie Madore also of Otisfield, ME. He leaves behind countless friends and neighbors as well as many nieces and nephews and extended family members. Maurice will be sadly missed by all of us who knew him.
His family extends their gratitude to the staff of Beacon Hospice, who skills and compassion helped make Maurice’s journey a dignified one. We also wish to thank all other healthcare professionals who provided support along the way.

Visiting hours will be held from 6 to 8 PM Monday December 15th, 2003 at the Bibber Memorial Chapel 67 Summer Street Kennebunk.
Graveside service will be held 3 PM Tuesday December 16th, 2003 at the Arundel Cemetery, North Street Kennebunkport, ME.

Should friends desire memorial donation may be made to the American Cancer Society 1 Main Street Suite 300 Topsham, Maine 04086 in Mr. Drew’s memory.

Melville J. Ellis

Melville Joseph Ellis, 89, of Huntington Commons died July 3, 2004 at Southern Maine Medical Center after a brief illness. He formerly resided in Pennsauken and Cape May, N.J.

He was born January 4, 1915 in State College, PA, the son of Ernest J. Ellis, Manchester, England and Jane E. Brown of Kidderminster, England.

He married Kathryn Van Dyke Richardson on July 18, 1933; she predeceased him in 2001 after 68 years of marriage. His son, M. James Ellis of Newport Beach, CA, died in 2002 at the age of 59.

After graduating from Camden High School in 1933, he attended The Warten School of the University of Pennsylvania which prepared him for a long career in the insurance industry. He worked his entire business life as an agent for Loyal Protective Life Insurance Company in Boston. When retired, he became a licensed Real Estate Broker and during World War II he served in the New Jersey State Guard.

While living in Pennsauken, N.J. he was involved in many civic organizations, serving as President of the Lyons Club, Warden of the Vestry of Grace Episcopal Church, and on several committees for the Episcopal Diocese of N.J.

The Ellis’ resided for over 50 years during the summer and retirement in Cape May, N.J. As one of the founders of the Harbor Sailing Club of Cape May, he secured the Charter for the Corinthian Yacht Club of Cape May. He served as the first Commodore of the New Corinthian. He was in the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary and warden of the Vestry of the Church of the Advent. Mr. Ellis was a member of the Merchantville Masonic Lodge, Crescent Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. of Trenton and Cape May County Shrine Club. They moved to Kennebunk, Maine in 2000 and were members of St. David’s and St. Ann’s Episcopal Church.

He is survived by his daughter, Marjorie Ellis Downes and son-in-law John A. Downes of Kennebunk Beach, Maine; a daughter-in-law, Jacquie Ellis of Newport Beach, CA; grandchildren, Michael Ellis Downes of Kensington, NH; Kathryn Downes Miller and her husband Douglas H. Miller of Woodstock, VT; Lauren Ellis Sipelis and her husband Vitas Sipelis of San Clemente, CA; Leigh Ellis of San Francisco, CA; Rebecca Ellis Broderick and her husband Andrew Broderick of Basalt, CO; Jaimee Ellis of Irvine, CA; and great grandchildren, Elizabeth Ellis Miller and Kathryn Winslow Miller of Woodstock, VT.

Service and Interment will be Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at 11 AM at St. David’s Episcopal Church Memorial Garden. Donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Association, Inc., 163 Lancaster Street, Suite 160B, Portland, Maine 04101-2406.

Miriam Bond

Miriam Andersen Bond of Biddeford, passed away Thursday, May 6, 2004 at Kennebunk Nursing Center.

She was the beloved wife of Robert Wedger Bond with whom she shared 59 years of marriage.

She is survived by her devoted children; Bruce Bond of Rochester New Hampshire, Nancy Doyle and her husband Richard of Brookline Massachusetts, loving grandchildren; Justin and Sarah Bond and Darren Doyle, her sister, Audrey Reigel of North Carolina and her brother, James Andersen, Jr. of Delaware, and 11 cherished nieces and nephews.

She was born in Wood-Ridge, New Jersey and resided for many years in Darien, Connecticut before moving to Biddeford in 1986.

She was active in many area organizations including the Seacoast Garden Club.

A memorial service will be held at The Church on the Cape, 3 Langsford Road, Kennebunkport, May 10 at 2:00.

Donations in her memory may be made to Southern Maine Medical Center (SMMC), Attn: Development Office, PO Box 626, Biddeford, ME 04005.

Paula Wheeler

Paula Faustina Isabella Wheeler died peacefully on Sunday July 11, 2004.

She was born on Feb. 26, 1914, the daughter of Jeanne and Hugo Branca of Switzerland and Florence, Italy.

An avid gardener, Paula would frequently collect roadside wild flowers and cultivate organic gardens. She loved gourmet cooking, and would often entertain others with her cuisine. A closet poet, she wrote of things that matter with passion and clarity.

She and her devoted husband, Bruce P. Wheeler, owned and operated the Essex River House Motel in Essex, MA. Later, they moved to Kennebunk to retire.

She leaves her son, guy Ellard Frank of Richmond, VA; her nieces, Bonnie, Carol and Barbara; her nephew Lad; and countless loving friends.

She has entered the Kingdom of Heaven to enjoy Christ.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 17, 2004 at 11a.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 2 Lord Street, Kennebunk.

Pauline Coombs

Pauline Ernestine Coombs, age 78 of Pleasant Street, died Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at her residence.

She was born in Kennebunk on August 4, 1925, the daughter of Ernest F. and Mary L. Lamontagne Coombs.

Pauline was a housekeeper all of her life.

She is predeceased by two brothers, Roger F. Coombs and Rodney H. Coombs, and a half brother, Raymond F. Coombs.

Surviving are a half sister, Ola Maguire, of Kennebunk; a niece, Mrs. Roscoe (Connie) Tarbox of Lyman; two great nieces, Lisa Andrews of Naples, and Amy Tarbox of Wakefield, NH; a great nephew, Marc Tarbox of France; one great great niece and two great great nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 11a.m. Friday, July 23, 2004 at Hope cemetery in Kennebunk with Rev. Sally Lucas officiating.

Philip L. Stevens

Philip Lyman Stevens, the son of Pendleton Stevens of Kennebunk and the late Alix Loree Stevens, died unexpectedly on June 19, 2004 in San Diego, Calif.

He was born on Sept. 22, 1965 in New Jersey and lived there until 1978 when his family moved to California.

He graduated from Grant High School in North Hollywood, Calif. and entered the U.S. Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton, Calif. in 1983.

He received training as an air traffic controller and was stationed at Yuma, Ariz. until his discharge in 1987.

He graduated from the San Diego State University in 1992 with a degree in business administration and was employed as a traveling auditor for Foodmaker. He preferred outdoor work so he created Crystal Clear, a pool maintenance and repair business in the San Diego area.

A back injury prevented him from continuing the work that he enjoyed and most recently he was employed by Prudential Life Insurance Company.

In August 2003 he married Gina Jacob.

They were involved with their church where he studied and taught classes on the Bible and they felt supported by their faith and church community.

He loved the California weather and casual lifestyle.

He enjoyed walking his dog on the beach, mountain biking, skiing, and restoring his old Porsche.

He was very bright and an avid reader with an amazing vocabulary and mind full of interesting trivia.

He had a quick wit with a penchant for giving useful but humorous gifts.

His mother died in 1980.

He is survived by his wife Gina (Jacob) Stevens of San Diego, Calif.; friend and former wife, Michelle Chaney Lobo of Escondido, Calif.; his father, Pen and stepmother Dorothy, a brother, Edwin and one sister, Alice, all of Kennebunk; a brother, Mark, sister-in-law, Anne, nephews Zach and Max, of Lexington, Mass.; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends from all over the United States.

A service to celebrate his life will be held Saturday July 17 at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Route 1, Kennebunk.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his memory to Sweetser for its Adult Community Services, 50 Moody St., Saco, ME 04072.

Philip R. Davis

Philip R. Davis, age 77, resident of Shadagee Rd. Saco, formerly of Kennebunk, died Thursday at his home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He is the husband of Sarah “Sally” (Russell) Davis.

Mr. Davis was born January 27, 1927 at his home in Calais, ME a son of Warren H. and Janie L. (Robinson) Davis.

Following his graduation from Calais High School, he served as a Boatswain’s Mate in the US Navy during WW II earning the Victory Medal.

He was then employed by the Calais Light and Power Company for 16 years and later a supervisor for Milliken Brothers Electric Supply Company.

Mr. Davis moved to Kennebunk in 1963 where he was employed by Kennebunk Light and Power as General Manager and later Superintendent through the mid 1980’s.

After retiring, Phil and his wife wintered in New Port Richie, FL for several years.

He was a past member of the Calais Fire Department, Kennebunk Rotary Club, a member of Arundel Yacht Club, York Lodge AF & AM, Maine Consistory 320 Valley of Portland, Kora Shrine Center – Lewiston, Me.

Member and former Director of York County Shrine Club, Kora Moped Unit, Portsmouth and Palm Harbor Barber Shop Quartet, SPEBSQSA, Elks Lodge in Biddeford-Saco and Sun Coast Aerie in FL.

He enjoyed fishing, boating, his cottage in St. Stephens, N.B. and especially spending quality time with his family.

Mr. Davis is predeceased by his brother Charles Warren Davis and a sister Helen Robertha Marraty.

Mr. Davis is survived by his wife Sally of 56 years, four daughters, Janet H. Davis of Canton, MS, Mrs. Gordon (Joyce) Mailman of Saco, Mrs. Roland (Joy) Eon of Saco and Jill E. Farley of Biddeford, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and many special nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St, Kennebunk on Monday June 21, from 6-8 PM.

A Masonic service by York Lodge will be held at 7pm. Funeral service will be held at the Bibber Memorial Chapel Tuesday at 11 AM with the Reverend Lewis Flagg officiating.

Interment will be in Calais Cemetery, South St., Calais at 12 noon on Wednesday.

Priscilla Galeucia

Priscilla Galeucia, 75, a resident of Moody passed away on Wednesday, July 14, 2004 after a courageous struggle with cancer.

She was born in York on March 16, 1929, a daughter of Harold and Gladys (Hilton) Gowen.

She worked as a bookkeeper at Ocean National Bank for many years. She later worked at the Ogunquit Trading Post.

She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star – Priscilla Chapter of Wells, Me..

Mrs. Galeucia loved quilting and knitting.

She was predeceased by her husband, Gordon E. Galeucia, Sr. in 1987 and a son, Bruce in 2002. She is also predeceased by a brother, Carroll Gowen and a sister, Margaret Brewster.

She is survived by a son, Gordon Galeucia, Jr. and his wife Diane of Cypress, TX; two daughters, Pamela Card and her husband Frank of Moody and Paula Card and her husband Richard of Belgrade; a brother, Robert Cady of Moody; 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by her family and her longtime friend and companion, Edwin Littlefield

Visiting hours will be held from 6 to 8 PM Friday July 16, 2004 at the Bibber Memorial Chapel 111 Chapel Road Wells with the Eastern Star services will be held at 7 PM.

Funeral service will be held at 2 PM Saturday at the chapel with the Reverend David Clark officiating. Interment will be in First Parish Cemetery, York, Maine.

Should friends desire memorial donation may be made to the American Cancer Society of New England One Main street Suite 300 Topsham, Maine 04086-1246 in Mrs. Galeucia’s memory.

The family would like to thank to the Beacon Hospice Care staff for their professional care and kindness extended to Mrs.Galeucia.
