William Dawson

William Alexander Dawson 79 yrs, a resident of Arundel, ME died Sunday November 16, 2003 at the Southern Maine Medical Center Biddeford, ME after a long courageous battle with cancer.
William was born in Huntly, Aberdeenshire, Scotland on November 10, 1924 a son of Joseph and Eleanor (Simpson) Dawson.
He started early in the newspaper business as apprentice at age 14 at the Huntly Express.
Later, he served in the Royal English Navy from 1943-1946.
He was stationed at Brunswick Naval Air Station.
He became a U.S. citizen in 1949. He worked at the Sanford Tribune for 12 years, the Kennebunk Star for 7 years.
He owned his own business on Main Street in Kennebunk called “Quality Press” for 20 yrs.
He sold his business in 1987 and became the printer for all of MSAD #71 from 1987 to 2002 after 15 years he retired with ill health.
William was a member of Kennebunk and Kennebunkport Chamber of Commerce, York Lodge #22 of West Kennebunk, Scottish Rite Valley of Portland, Kora Shriners of Lewiston was tenor drummer in the Kora Highlanders of Lewiston.
He was a former member of the Kennebunk Rotary Club.
He was predeceased by 2 brothers Norval and Ian, a sister Dorothy and a twin brother Sidney who died at 3 months of age.
He was married to the former Jacqueline Lebel Dawson from 1941 thru 1981 who died in August of 2002.
He leaves his wife of 21 years, Norma (Brand) Allen Dawson of Arundel, a daughter Susan York of Fort Lauderdale, FLA and Saco, Me and a grandson Jason York of Saco, ME. He also leaves 4 step children Mark Allen of Somersworth, NH, Matthew Allen of Santa Clara, CA, Lorraine Allen of Wellington, FLA and Nancy (Dilio) Soule of Kennebunk and five step grandchildren. He also leaves 3 sisters Daisey, Ella, Alice and a brother George Dawson all of Scotland.
Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 8 PM Wednesday November 19, 2003 at the Bibber Memorial Chapel 67 Summer Street Kennebunk, Me where a Masonic Service will be conducted by York Lodge of Masons at 7:30 PM at the Chapel.

Gerhard Ellenberg

Gerhard H. Ellenberg, 63 years a resident of Cole Road West Kennebunk died unexpectedly in Kennebunkport.
Gerhard was born in Germany on April 8, 1940 a son of Rudolf and Selma Carstens Ellenberg. He is a graduate of high school in Germany, and also attended cutlery school there.
He was a chef for the Holland American Cruise Lines for several years moving to Brooklyn, New York where he worked in the CBS Ground Floor Restaurant in New York City for several years. He later worked at the White Hart Inn in CT before moving to Ogunquit, ME where he and Chef Wilhem opened the Hofbrauhaus – Chateau Briand Restaurant. After meeting his wife Karen Wieczorek, they moved to Naples, FL where they opened a restaurant until 1986 when they moved back to Maine. He was then employed by the former Old Grist Mill of Kennebunkport and later worked in several restaurants in the Kennebunk area.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years Karen W. Ellenberg and two sons Erich and Evan Ellenberg all of Kennebunk, two brother Rudolf and Herbert Ellenberg both of Germany , three sisters Helga Briand, Margaret Barz and Renate Klors all of Germany and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 PM Wednesday at the Bibber Memorial Chapel 67 Summer Street Kennebunk where a memorial service will be held 11 AM Thursday at the Chapel.

Agnes Sheldon

Agnes Loretta Sheldon 82 years a resident of Tri City Road Somersworth, NH formerly of Berwick, Me died Monday July 12, 2004 at the Wentworth Douglass Hospital in Dover, NH after a long illness.
She was born in Brookfield Center, CT. on February 21, 1922 a daughter of William Francis and Agnes Camilla (McKenna) Hollace. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Dover.
She was a homemaker for most of her life.
Agnes enjoyed travel and spending time with her family.
She was predeceased by her brother William Hollace and her sister Eleanor Metivier.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years Lester Sheldon of Somersworth, NH., two sons Lester J. Sheldon of Kittery, Me and Lawrence E. Sheldon of Denver, CO. A daughter Doreen A. Rembert of Portland, ME and 5 Grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday July 13, 2004 at the Laing-Bibber Funeral Chapel 36 Rochester Street Berwick, Me.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM Wednesday at the Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Berwick with the Reverend Hilary Cameron officiating.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Berwick, Me.
Amanda A. Goodrich

Amanda A. Goodrich, 59, a resident of Bruce Lane, Berwick, died Friday, July 23, 2004 at her home after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Augusta, Maine on December 8, 1944, a daughter of Wilber P. and Gertrude M. (Fisher) Spencer. She was a graduate of Berwick High School.
Amanda was employed by Rubb Building Inc. of Sanford until her illness. She was also a homemaker, mother, and grandmother.
She was a selectman for the Town of Berwick for one term, a member of the Order of Eastern Star of South Berwick, and also a member of the First Parish United Church of Christ in Somersworth, NH.
She was a loving grandmother who enjoyed yard sales, four-wheeling, and
hunting and fishing at her camp in Seboeis, ME with her husband and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Bruce E. Goodrich of Berwick; two sons, Ralph E. Goodrich and his wife Kelly, and Bruce P. Goodrich and his wife Daphne, all of Berwick, ME; two daughters, Amanda A. Ouellette and her husband Jeff of Alabama and Angeline M. Lessard and her husband Jayson of Berwick, ME; five brothers, Wilbur Spencer of Waterboro, ME, Carlton Spencer and his wife Lynn of Rollingsford, NH, Barry Spencer and his wife Clarine of Berwick, ME, Raymond Spencer and his wife Marion of North Berwick, ME, and Nathan Spencer and his wife Janet of Shapleigh, ME; one sister, Gertrude Spencer of Berwick, ME, and 11 grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visiting Hours will be held from 3 to 6 PM, Sunday, July 25, 2004 at Laing-Bibber Funeral Chapel, 36 Rochester Street, Berwick, ME.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 PM on Monday, July 26th at the First Parish United Church of Christ, 176 West High Street, Somersworth, NH with Rev. Mark Rideout officiating.
Private burial will be in Evergreen cemetery in Berwick, ME.

Ann Rimmer Fales

Ann Rimmer Fales died on Friday, June 18, 2004, following a lengthy illness. She was 73 years old.
Born in Liverpool, England, Ann was the daughter of Charles and Dorothy Rimmer. Her family moved to Boston just prior to the outbreak of World War II. Ann graduated in 1948 from Miss Porter’s School in Connecticut.
After a brief marriage to Dean Fales, Jr., Ann worked for many years in retail businesses in Manchester, Massachusetts and in New York City. In 1973, she took up residence in Kennebunkport, Maine where she owned and operated Cape Arundel Inn for many years.
It was typical of her that she became deeply interested and active in Kennebunkport’s life and governance serving on the Zoning Board of Appeals, the Cape Arundel Neighborhood Association, and the Parson’s Way Trust Committee. She was also a loyal and supportive member of Kennebunkport’s Historical Society and Conservation Trust, and of the Kennebunk River Club.
Ann leaves her sister, Betsey Scarborough; her brother, Charlie Rimmer; and eight beloved nieces and nephews.
Her family will hold a memorial service on Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at 3 PM at St. Ann’s Church, Ocean Avenue, Kennebunkport, Maine to which her friends are warmly invited.
Her wish is for the support of a favorite charity, in her memory, in lieu of flowers.

Anna Xydelis, age 95 years, a resident of the Kennebunk Nursing and Rehabilitation Center formerly of Wells died Friday at her residence after a lengthy illness. She was the widow of Demetrois Xydelis who died in 1968.
She was born in Athens, Greece Nov. 7, 1908 a daughter of George and Irene Zermalias. She attended School’s in Greece.
She was a homemaker for most of her life.
Anna is survived by one son George Xydelis of Israel and one daughter, Irene Minaoakis of Wells, Me. Two Grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held 10 AM Tuesday June 15, 2004 St. Demetrois Church Saco, Maine with Fr. Basil officiating. Interment in St. Demetrois Cemetery, Biddeford, Me.
Arlene Fairweather

Arlene E. Coombs Fairweather, age 87, formerly of Kennebunk and Springvale, died Friday, April 9, 2004 at Goodall Hospital in Sanford.
She was born in Kennebunk on November 30, 1916, the daughter of Curtis and Eleanor Drown Coombs.
She attended Kennebunk schools and graduated from Kennebunk High School in 1935.
Following her marriage to Clayton (Smokey) Fairweather they moved to San Diego, CA where she spent most of her adult life and worked for Aero Dynamics in San Diego.
After her husband passed away in 1998, she moved back to Kennebunk.
She was a friendly and cheerful person and loved her gardening and camping.
She is survived by two sisters, Ruth Knight and Frances Bowen both of Kennebunk; three nephews, Wayne Bowen and his wife, Pamela and William Bowen all of Kennebunk, and Troy Bowen of Wells.
A private graveside service will be held at Hope Cemetery.

Barbara Sheldon

Barbara P. Sheldon, age 86 of Island Beach Road, died Monday, April 19, 2004 at Maine Medical Center in Portland.
She was born in Watertown , MA a daughter of Lester G. and Doris Donaghy Phelps.
She graduated from Watertown High School and Simmonds College in Boston.
Barbara worked as a dietician at New England Memorial Hospital in Stoneham, MA.
She was an avid Bridge player and enjoyed quilting. She was also a member of the Kennebunk Senior Center.
Her husband, Kenneth Sheldon died in 1969.
She is survived by two sons, Jeffrey of Tyngsboro, MA and Brian of San Jose, CA; two daughters, Nancy Miller of Port Charlotte, FL and Susan Gross of Kennebunk; and nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Services will be private.

Margaret Ina Emery

Margaret Ina Emery, 99, of South Berwick, Maine, died after at a short stay at the Mark Wentworth Home in Portsmouth, NH, on Friday, June 11, 2004.
Ina was born on October 1, 1904, in Worcester, VT. the youngest child of Charles Dodge and Sarah Herron who were early farmers in Worcester for many years. Ina lived a happy childhood on the farm with numerous brothers and sisters around and attending local schools and graduating from Worcester High School.
She worked as an Administrative Assistant at the Vermont State Department of Agriculture retiring in 1963.
In 1920, she was married to Ronald Demell. She gave birth to her first daughter, Laura in 1922. Her second daughter, Margaret “Peg”, was born in 1923.They lived for many years in Montpelier. She was predeceased by Ronald in 1952.
In 1954, Ina married William Emery, who also worked at the Vermont. Department of Agriculture. Together, after retirement, they traveled around every state in the United States. She was predeceased by William in 1968.
For many years, Ina was the organist in the Methodist Church in Worcester, VT.
In 1985, Ina moved to South Berwick, ME to live with her daughter Laura.
At the age of 86, she found great joy in watercolor painting and produced a prolific number of beautiful paintings over a 12-year period. She also became a member of the United Methodist Church in Berwick acting as President of the Berwick United Methodist Women Association.
Throughout her long life, Ina loved the out of doors and never tired of walking and exploring nature and working in her beautiful garden.
Ina is survived by her daughter Laura; six grandchildren, Joanna Carey and Christopher Briggs of Northampton, MA; Margaret Carey of South Berwick, ME; Ellen Clark and her husband Tom of Dover, NH; John Carey and his wife Barbara of York, ME; Christopher Carey of Somersworth, NH; and Ann Carey Sinden and her husband Gary of Elliot, ME; eight great-grandchildren Scott Carey, Benjamin Clark, Jacob Carey-Rand, Liam Carey-Rand, Matthew Carey, Hana Carey, Nathan Sinden and Emma Sinden.
Calling hours are on Sunday, June 13, 2004 from 1-3 PM at Laing-Bibber Funeral Chapel, 36 Rochester Street in Berwick, ME. The funeral service will be held on Monday, June 14 at 11 AM at the United Methodist Church, 37 School Street in Berwick, ME.
Interment will be in Montpelier, VT. at a later date.
