Kenneth L. Packard
DIXFIELD -- Kenneth L. Packard, 77, of Dixfield, died unexpectedly at his home on Dec. 31, 2010.
He was born on Oct. 18, 1943, in Somerville, MA, the son of Hezikier and Grace (Glover) Packard. He was educated in Massachusetts schools and attended a year at Tuft’s University.
Mr. Packard worked as an electrician.
He is survived by cousins.
Spring Interment will be at the Riverside cemetery in Dixfield.
Claire Marie Michaud Richard
RUMFORD -– Claire Marie Michaud Richard, 80, of Knox Street, Rumford, passed away after a long decline with Alzheimer’s on July 25, 2011 at the Rumford Community Home, with her loving husband and family by her side.
She was born in Lewiston on December 19, 1930 to Louis Philippe and Albertine (Bonenfant) Michaud. She attended Lewiston schools and graduated from Lewiston High School Class of 1949, Commercial Course and took her first art lessons there. She received her certificate as a Clerical Stenographer in June of 1951. She had worked at L. P. Michaud Grocery Store in Lewiston. She loved music, flowers and making beautiful things, but she truly loved her family.
In 1952, she married Alyre J. Richard and moved to Rumford. She was a full time mother who used her artistic creativity to entertain her children, help them with their homework and beautify her home. She, with her husband, instilled a do-it-yourself ethic in their children. After her children were grown, she was able to devote more time to art. She took more lessons and created many beautiful paintings, mostly gifts to family and friends. She eventually taught art lessons and passed along her knowledge to others.
She was a communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior, St. Athanasius–St. John Church and volunteered her time and talents for many years. She had been very active in the church teaching baptism classes, serving as a Eucharistic Minister, working on altar decorations and flowers and active in Mother Riviere. She was a long time member of T.O.P.S.
She is survived by her husband; her sister, Lucille Higgins; her sons, Maurice, Raymond, and Emile Richard; her daughters, Pauline Hahn, Elaine Boyd and Christine Reed; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents; two brothers, Raymond and Gaston “Slim” Michaud; and her daughter, Venise Van Tassel.
A special thanks to her “Family” at the Rumford Community Home and to the staff at Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. on Thursday at Parish of the Holy Savior, St. Athanasius–St. John Church, Maine Avenue, Rumford. Interment will be at St. John Cemetery, Rumford. Friends are invited to call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Meader & Son Funeral Home, 3 Franklin St., Rumford. Constance M. Stevenson
ALTON, NH -- Constance M. Stevenson, 83, of Alton, New Hampshire went peacefully into the arms of her Lord Jesus on June 24, 2011 at her home surrounded by family and friends.
She had been declining in health for a long period of time.
Connie was born on May 8, 1928 in Rumford, the daughter of Elizabeth (Allen) Tyler of East Concord, NH. She spent most of her childhood with her maternal grandparents, Harvey and Violet Allen of Mexico.
She graduated from Mexico High School in 1946 where she was a clarinetist in the concert band. In 1977, she graduated from New Hampshire Technical Institute with a degree in counseling.
Mrs. Stevenson was married on July 26, 1946 at the East Congregational Church in East Concord.
Early in her career, she was employed by WKXL in Concord, NH where she performed as salesperson and host of the weekly "Connie Stevenson Show," only the second woman in New Hampshire to have a live talk show format. She was hostess for International House of Pancakes in Manchester, NH for several years and then went on to be a leader in Alcoholics Anonymous, instrumental in establishing many new units throughout New Hampshire. She was a self-taught graphic artist known for her primitive painting, tole work, and lampshade design. She was the owner/artist of The Village Lamp & Shade Shop in Alton and distributed works throughout Nova Scotia, Canada, Maine, and New Hampshire.
Connie and her husband, Bob, established "Stevenson's Dairy Bar" in Alton, which served the area for several years. After receiving her degree in counseling, Mrs. Stevenson went on to work for NH State Hospital, Burbank House, Amethyst as alcohol abuse counselor, Manchester Mental Health and Carroll County Impaired Driver Intervention Program until her retirement in 1987.
Since that time, Connie divided her time between her summer home in Canada and Alton where she continued to paint.
Connie is survived by her brother, William Tyler of Greencove Springs, FL; her sons, Robert P. Stevenson of Tilton, NH and Craig S. Stevenson of Alton; and her grandsons, Ryan Stevenson, Christopher Stevenson and Richard Stevenson.
She is predeceased by her husband, Robert B. Stevenson; an infant son; her mother; her stepfather, Roger Tyler of East Concord; and her sister, Barbara Bachelder, of Pembroke, NH.
Services to be announced at a later date. Burial will be at Pine Grove Cemetery, Concord, NH.
Kareen Ann Poulin Clohosey
RUMFORD -- A Mass of Christian Burial for Kareen Ann Poulin Clohosey of Rumford, was celebrated on May 27, 2011 at St. Athanasius – St John Church, with Fr. Phil Tracy as celebrant.
Alter Assistant was George Gionet. Organist was Mark Belanger.
Music selections included: “Be Not Afraid,” “Because the Lord is My Shepherd,” “Fly Like a Bird,” and “Let There Be Peace of Earth.”
Readings were given by her daughter, Jennifer Sylvain and grandson, Justin Richards. Eulogy was given by her daughter, Karri Clohosey.
Gift presenters were her grandchildren, Patrick and Liam Higgins.
Interment was at St. John Cemetery, Rumford. A reception followed in the Parish Hall of the Church.
Arrangements were under the care of the Meader & Son Funeral Home, Rumford.
Kathleen F. Allen Gilbert
PERU -- Graveside services for Kathleen F. Allen Gilbert of Gulf Port, FL and formerly of Mexico, were conducted on July 23, 2011 at the Demerritt Cemetery, with Pastor Carol Stevens officiating.
A reception followed at the home of Belle Child on the Mineral Spring Road in Peru.
Arrangements were under the care of the Meader & Son Funeral Home, Rumford.
Timothy A. Frost
LEWISTON -– Timothy A. Frost, 69, of 3rd Street in Dixfield, died unexpectedly on Sept. 7, 2011 at CMMC in Lewiston.
He was born in Rumford on November 29, 1941, a son of William F. and Iola (Ellis) Frost. Tim was employed with Stowell McGregor Saw Mill in Dixfield for many years.
He was a member of the Dixfield Fire Department for over 40 years and was a member of the LeParesseux Snowshoe Club. Tim enjoyed fishing, sitting on his bench in front of his home and buying scratch tickets.
He also loved spending time with the girls at Towle’s Corner Store.
Surviving are four brothers, Dexter Frost of Carthage, Morton Frost and wife, Sandra of Mexico, William Frost and wife, Rose of Dixfield, and Terrance Frost and wife, Carolyn of Dixfield; two sisters, Sharon Lee and husband, Steven of Weld, and Linda Hinkley of Andover; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; and two sisters, Priscilla Lee and Sandra Martin.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to the doctors and nurses at CMMC for the wonderful care given to Tim.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Greenwood cemetery in Dixfield with Rev. John Gensel officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Tim’s memory may be made to the CMMC Special Care Unit, 12 High St., Lewiston, ME 04240.
Bert W. Knox
CARTHAGE -- Bert W. Knox, 44, of Carthage, died unexpectedly on August 3, 2011 in Carthage.
Bert was born December 25, 1966 at home in Livermore Falls. He lived most of his life in Carthage.
He married his lifelong sweetheart, Sherry Hutchinson on October 26, 1985. He ran his own business-- Knox & Sons Light Trucking & Excavation.
He was a loving and caring person who would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He was known for his great sense of humor, smile and outgoing personality. He thought the world of his family and especially loved spending quality time with his beautiful grandchildren. He was a family man who enjoyed outdoor activities.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry (Hutchinson) Knox of Carthage; children, Dustin Knox and girlfriend, Samantha, Cody Knox and girlfriend, Kristen, Lindsey Knox and boyfriend, Dillon, all of Carthage; adopted son, Nick McGrane of Old Town, and many children he took under his wing as his own; three brothers, Kenny Flagg, Sidney Flagg, and Teddy and Wanda Flagg, all of Carthage; three sisters, Kathy and Leo Turner of Carthage, Lydia (Ruthy) Hutchinson of Canton, and Stella and Louie Blanchard of Rumford; five very special grandchildren, with one on the way; and several other family members.
He is predeceased by his parents, Emma and Theodore Knox; stepfather, Floyd Pulk; and sister, Florence Provencher.
He will be sadly missed by numerous friends and family members that meant the world to him.
Ellery P. Turner Sr.
LEWISTON -- Ellery P. Turner Sr., 77, passed away on Aug. 6, 2011 at the Central Maine Medical Center.
He was born on Sept. 24, 1933, the son of Mary Porter Turner and Ora Turner.
He was the husband of Phyllis J. Turner. They were married on Nov. 28, 2006.
He is survived by his children, son, Ellery P. Turner, Jr. and his friend, Millie Harrington, daughter, Barbara Turner Tibbitts and her husband, Robert Tibbitts and their two sons, Cody M. Turner and Gary Tibbitts, James P. Turner and his wife, Tammie and their children, Makayla Emery and Alexis Rae Turner, and Thomas Turner (deceased); step-daughter, Elizabeth Hamel and her husband, Fred; step-sons, Quentin Breton, Donald Breton and Victor Breton; many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; brothers, George Turner, Rex Turner (deceased) and C.V. Tad Turner (deceased); and ex-wives, Doris Nelson Turner, Mary-Ann Donahue Melville (deceased) and Hazel Thibodeau Holden Jackson.
Lee Stephen Lawler
RUMFORD -– Lee Stephen Lawler, 92, died on July 4, 2011 surrounded by loved ones at Rumford Community Home.
He was born in Cambridge, MA on March 26, 1919, a son of Stephen Lawler and Ann Hines Lawler. Lee graduated from Stephens High School Class of 1938, and attended Bowdoin College.
He was in active duty from 1941 to 1945. He was a Rifle Squad Leader and Staff Sgt with Co. B 103rd Infantry Division and served with the 43rd Division. Lee was fighting back Japanese invaders in four Beach Head Campaigns in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater, Guada Canal, Northern Solomon Islands, New Guinea, and Luzon, in the Philippines.
He was awarded eight medals plus Sharp Shooter and Bayonet Medals, the American Defense Medal, the Efficiency Honor Medal, the World War II Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with Four Stars, the Bronze Star for Honorable Service, and a Purple Heart for a physical wound he received in combat during the entire war.
From late summer and into fall of 1940, many of the area’s young men enlisted in the 103rd Regiment of the Maine National Guard, with the knowledge that the 103rd would soon be “called up” for a one year tour of duty with the U.S. Army. On February 24, 1941, the 103rd was mobilized and inducted into the US Army 43rd Infantry Division. To all of these men, our gratitude, each of them symbolized a story of courage, and devotion to duty.
Lee was married to Katherine Gautreau in 1947. He was a member of Parish of the Holy Savior, the American Legion, and the VFW.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Katherine M. (Gautreau) Lawler of Mexico; children, Elayne Lawler and husband, Gary Gallant of Andover, Lee Ann Lawler-Don and husband, Tim of Mexico, and Kathleen Tozier and husband, Gary of Roxbury; a son-in-law, Randall Doiron of Rumford; a brother, Kenneth Lawler and wife, Caroline of Roxbury; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents; and a daughter, Linda Doiron.
Anna M. Swan
SOUTH PARIS -- Anna M. Swan, 80, passed on Feb. 4, 2011 at Market Square Healthcare in South Paris.
She was born in Rumford on Aug. 11, 1930, the daughter of Iva and Harold Barnett. She graduated from Mexico High School.
She worked at Diamond Match and Penley's factory and later became a CNA, working days at Penley's mill and Ledgeview Nursing Home at night.
She was a member of the W. Paris Baptist Church, the Franklin and W. Paris Grange. Anna was a Girl Scout leader and enjoyed reading, the water, fishing, and baking for friends and made a good many excellent pies. Everything she did, she did with all of her heart.
She is survived by her son, David Gammon and his wife, Brenda of Peru; her daughter, Tammy Stevens and her fiance, Rick of Lisbon; a sister, Sally Hartford of Eliot; a daughter-in-law, Theresa Gammon; her grandchildren, Amy Gammon of Farmington, Julie Carlow of Peru and Ben Gammon of Strong, Klye and Elijah Gammon of Chesterville, Cassidy and Dylan Pelchat of Lisbon; five great-grandchildren, and a special cousin, Bertha DeHass of W. Paris.
Anna was predeceased by her son, Zacheus Gammon last December; her parents; and her siblings, Muriel, Grace, Geraldine, Richard, and Thomas, Herman.
As per Anna's request, there will be no services.
Thank you to Norway Rehab and Living Center and all the staff. In her words they were "my home and family."
Judy Collette Holland
REGION -- Judy Collette Holland, passed away on December 6, 2011 after a short illness, with her husband and sister Linda by her side. born April 10, 1961 to Edmond and the late Anita Collette, Judy attended Rumford area schools. While living in Maine, she worked out of her home as a daycare provider. She later worked in medical offices in Florida before opening a mail order business with her husband.
She is survived by her sons, Dustin Kidder of Colorado, and Samuel Barber and fiance, Liz Lussier of North Paris; her husband, Jody of Florida; her father, Edmond and stepmother, Carol of Lewiston; her sisters, Linda Martineau and her husband, Eddy of Florida, Lisa Barrieau and her husband, Tim of Rumford, Colleen Collette of So. Paris; stepsisters, Laurie Soucy and her husband, John of Rumford, Julie Plummer and her husband, Mark of Hermon, Pam Hockenbrocht of Saco and Tina Beaulieu of Waterboro; a stepbrother, Frank Hockenbrocht and his wife, Kathy of NewYork; and many special aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins.
She was predeceased by her mother, Anita; grandparents Willie and Laura Collette, and Samuel and Cora Huckins; and an infant son.
A Memorial mass will be held at the Holy Savior Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
Iona Pease Yeaton
EAST WILTON -– Iona Pease Yeaton, 88, of East Wilton, passed away at home on Sunday August 7, 2011.
She was the youngest of five children born to Guy W. and Florence (Haley) Pease on August 16, 1922.
On May 6, 1939, she married Howard Lewis Yeaton Sr. He passed away on May 11, 2007. They had been married 68 years.
Iona worked for 15 years at Forster Mfg. Co. in East Wilton. She was a member of the Forster Bowling Team and also belonged to the East Wilton Christmas Club.
She also enjoyed knitting, cross stitch, word puzzles and reading. After her husband Howard retired, they enjoyed taking trips to California, Florida, Tennessee and Alaska.
Iona enjoyed her entire family and was most proud that all 15 grandchildren graduated from Mt. Blue High School. She has a lot of memorabilia clipped from the local newspapers about all whom she loves.
She is survived by a son, Howard Lewis “Lou” Yeaton, Jr. and Roberta of East Wilton; daughter, Anne Y. Beisaw of Strong; 15 grandchildren, Rhonda deWildte of Wilton, David Beisaw and Kelly of Wilton, Dennis Beisaw and Deirdre of Jay, Jeffrey Beisaw and Cindy of Wilton, Kevin Beisaw of Jay, Robert Beisaw and Mandy of Farmington, Alan Beisaw and Andrea of East Wilton, Mary Anne Havtan and Yaron of Kefar Saba, Israel, Catherine Iona Stahura and Douglas of Aiken, SC, Michele Catinella and Frank of Ft.
