Paul H. Groves
RUMFORD - Paul H. Groves, 63, died on May 16, 2010 at the Rumford Hospital.
Paul had resided at the Muskie Building on Congress Street, Rumford.
He was born October 27, 1946 and had attended schools in Brooklyn, New York and college in New York.
Paul had worked as the manager for the Men’s Shelter for the Mentally Impaired in Portland for several years. He enjoyed spending time with his friends.
He had no close relatives surviving, but had a close friend Peter Musso of Greenwood, Maine.
At his request there are no services.
Frances Nevel
RUMFORD — Frances Nevel, 85, of Andover, surrendered her life here on earth for eternal life on July 2.
She was born at home in New Sharon to Walter and Pearl McHugh on Nov. 30, 1924. She married and was widowed at 23. She then married Paul Nevel on Oct. 4, 1952.
They owned and operated the Maine State Motor Court Cabins and Restaurant in New Sharon and then owned Nahmakanta Lake Wilderness Camps in Millinocket for almost 30 years.
She loved to laugh, life, family and friends. Everyone who crossed her path loved her and she loved them. She could make a friend in a moment's time. Her passing will create a void in many lives.
She leaves behind her husband of 57 years, Paul; stepson, Bruce and wife, Pam; sons, Barry and wife, Robin and Kerry; favorite daughter, (only daughter) Lana Fyrberg and beau, George Lozier; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Ryan, Jillian and Jasmine; and two great-grandchildren, Isaac and Aaron and a baby due in December.
"Let your spirit soar to heaven on a warm summer breeze. Your presence will surround us through the sun, moon, trees. Your journey here is over, a new one begins. We love you and will miss you, you're in good hands now, Mum."
Adelard G "Ducky" Cayer
FARMINGTON -- Adelard G. "Ducky" Cayer, 77, of Andover, died peacefully on April 6, 2003, at the Franklin Memorial Hospital with his family beside him. A lifelong resident of the area, he resided on the Wentzell Road, Andover.
He was born in Rumford on July 13, 1925, the son of George and Josephine (Tousignant) Cayer. He graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford with the Class of 1943.
He was a veteran of the U.S.Army Air Corp during World War II, earning the American, African and Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbons and a Victory Medal after flying numerous missions over the European Theater. He served with the 15th Army Air Corp B-24 Liberators as a Radio Operator/Gunner in the 781st Bombardment Squadron (H), 465th Bombardment Group stationed in Pantanella Airfield Italy from 1944 to 1945.
Adelard retired in 1987 from the Boise Cascade Paper Group, Rumford Mill as a Quality Control Forman after 43 years of service.
Since his retirement Mr. Cayer, better known as "Ducky" to all his family and friends, was very active in the Ellis River Riding Club in Andover where his humor will be missed by all members who knew him.
Mr. Cayer was a Registered Maine Master Guide for over 50 years. He was known for his extensive knowledge of and love for the outdoors. He was an accomplished expert in the field of firearms and ammunitions. Ducky shared his legacy with many.
Ducky was instrumental in handing down his lifelong outdoor traditions to many friends and family, especially his granddaughters whom he helped become avid outdoor girls, hunters and shooters.
He was married in Rumford on July 30, 1950 to Gloria T. Arsenault, his beloved wife of 53 years, who survives of Andover. Other survivors include two daughters, Deborah Cayer and her husband, Matthew Bean of Andover, and Sharon Perkins and her husband, James of Cornish; a son, George Cayer and his wife, Lori and their two daughters, Larissa and Hillary Cayer, all of Rumford
He was predeceased by a daughter, Sandra Cayer; and three sisters, Georgette, Regine , and Irene of Rumford.
At the families request, private services will be held at the families convenience. Interment in the spring at St. John Cemetery, Rumford. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1 Main Street, Suite 300, Topsham, Me. 04086-1240 in his memory.
Helen D. Cox Smith
LEWISTON -- Helen D. Cox Smith, 77, of Canton, died on Dec. 16, 2004, at the Central Maine Medical Center, in Lewiston.
She was born, Sept. 15, 1927 in Rumford Point, a daughter of George and Estella Howard (Elliot) Donahue. She attended Roxbury and Canton schools, graduating in 1945.
In 1944, she married Emery Cox. He died in 1967.
She remarried on Apr. 5, 1969 to, Daniel Smith in Canton. They made their home in Canton until moving to Chesterville in 1988 and later moving back to Canton in June of this year.
Mrs. Smith worked at Brindis Leather in Canton and later in local shoe shops.
She was a member of the Canton Baptist Church, serving as the pianist for several years. She was also a member of the Canton Mother's Club and enjoyed camping, reading and her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Dan of 35 years; a daughter, Jackie Conant and her husband, Norris of Canton; two brothers, Howard Donahue and his wife, Gloria of Peru, and William Donahue and his wife, Gayle of Grotin, CT; six grandchildren, Pamela Fleury, John Conant, Tony Conant, Daniel Cox, Andy Conant, and Erin Cox; four great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Linda Cox of Peru; and sister-in-law, Maxine Palmer of Dixfield.
She was predeceased by a son, David on Sept. 27, 2000; and a brother, G. Preston Donahue on April 8, 1971.
Phyllis Emma Jordan
RUMFORD - Phyllis Emma Jordan, 84, of Dixfield, died on April 21, 2006 at Rumford Hospital.
She was born, Dec. 27, 1921, in Mexico, a daughter of, John E. and Agnes (Easter) Wilson. She attended schools in Dixfield.
On Nov. 5, 1938, she married, Milford Jordan in Jay. They resided in Dixfield where she worked as a homemaker to her husband and family.
She enjoyed the time she was able to spend with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting and working in her gardens.
Phyllis is survived by three daughters, Janice Jackman and her husband, Harold of East Livermore, Marcia Byron and her husband, Earl "Buddy" of Rumford and Becky Thibodeau and her husband, Bernie of Rumford; 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; one brother, Eugene E. Wilson and his wife, Helen of Auburn; a step-brother, Joseph Huston and his wife, Betty of Raymond; a step-grandson. She was predeceased by her husband, Milford on Oct. 28, 2004; two sons, Obed M. and William M. Jordan; a grandson, William M. Jordan III; half sisters, Verna Adams, Thelma Lane, Evelyn Richards, Ellen Wilson and Hattie Dubois; a half brother, Carroll Wilson.
Memorial graveside services will be held at Saturday, April 29, at the Riverside cemetery in Dixfield.
John R. 'Dick' Harris
RUMFORD - John R. "Dick" Harris, 55, of Knox Street, Rumford, died on Jan. 31, 2007 at the Hospice House in Auburn.
He was born in New London, CT on June 26, 1951, the son of Raymond and Kathleen ( Scott) Harris. He graduated from the Old Lyme High School in Old Lyme, CT.
Dick worked at the Turbo Products in Ivoryton, CT as a press operator until retirement in 1993 due to illness.
He was married in Chester, CT on Feb. 25, 1978 to the former Cynthia G. Davis, who survives of Rumford.
Other survivors include a daughter, Kristen Harris of Rumford; two sons, John Harris and wife, Lindsey of Jacksboro, TN, and SPC Dennis Harris, U.S. Army, who served in two deployments to Iraq and wife, Maranda of Rensselaer Falls , NY; six grandchildren, six sisters, Sharon Dinger of Vincent, AL, Kathleen Wayne of Deep River, CT, Laurie Harris of Port Richey, FL, Carolyn Harris of Orlando, FL, Vera Maloney of Dover, DE, Roxanne Rude of Rich Lake, WI; two brothers, Raymond Harris of Ivoryton, CT and Mark Harris of Dover, DE; and many nieces and nephews.
He will be greatly missed by his cousins, Debbie and Chris Brown, and many new friends. The family would like to thank Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice and their workers, The Hospice House in Auburn and staff, for their care and comfort.
At his request, services will be held at the families convenience in Connecticut.
John J. O'Leary Sr.
RUMFORD - John J. O'Leary Sr., 76, of Swain Road, passed away on March 25, 2009 at his residence following a brief illness, with his loving family at his side.
He was born in Mexico on Nov. 14, 1932, a son of Daniel L. and Lucille (Swett) O'Leary. John was educated in Mexico schools and was a graduate of Mexico High School Class of 1952.
He went to work for Oxford Paper Company in 1953 and retired on June 30, 1993 with 40 years of service, retiring as a # 12 paper machine operator.
John was a communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, where he enjoyed spending time with his friends at the Friday night jams. He loved
hunting, fishing, and camping with his family.
John treasured the many winters spent with his beloved wife, Pauline in Steinhatchee, FL. He also loved playing cribbage and other card games.
Surviving are his children, John J. O'Leary, Jr. and wife, Sheryl of Rumford, Anne Clifford and husband, Arthur of Rumford, Patricia Drakus and husband, Walter of Andover, Kevin O'Leary and wife, Diane of Rumford, Philip O'Leary of Mexico, and Marcia Surette and husband, Thom of Rumford; two sisters, Elinor Patrie of Rumford, and Marylou Doyle and husband, Christopher of Atlanta, GA; 14 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Pauline; a son, Louis O'Leary; a great-grandson, Lucas Vining; four brothers, Donald, Ives, Gordon and Gerald; and two sisters, Dorothy Hosie, and Geraldine Lambert.
Jean B. Perry
SACO - Jean B. Perry, 83, of Rumford passed away on June 25, 2010 at Seal Rock Healthcare in Saco.
She was born on November 24, 1926 in Peru, a daughter of Glendon and Ethlyn Kidder Babb.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Peter J. Perry of Rumford; two daughters, Janet P. Leach and her husband, John of Greenland, NH, and Nancy P. Letellier and her husband, Kevin of Saco; and one granddaughter, Jenifer M. Horvath.
Privates services will be held a later date.
Richard J. Bolduc
RUMFORD -- Richard J. Bolduc, 82, of Maple Street in Rumford, died on April 5, 2003 at the Rumford Hospital surrounded by his family and friends.
He was born in Augusta on September 18, 1920, a son of Phillip and Florida (Poulin) Bolduc. He was educated in Augusta schools but had been a resident of the Rumford area community since 1939.
Mr. Bolduc was a Military Veteran having served his country during WWII in the United States Army and achieved the rank of Corporal prior to his honorable discharge. Following his time in the service, he worked 34 years in the Rumford Mill first for Oxford Paper Co. then for Boise Cascade until his retirement.
On May 29, 1999, he married Ann Delisle Biggar. He was a member of the Elks Club and also the Knights of Columbus. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing cards.
He leaves his, wife Ann of Rumford; five step-daughters, Judy Coleman of York, PA, Janet Dwyer and husband, Tom of Bangor, Joan and husband, Don of Orlando, FL, Joyce Tremblay of Lewiston, and Jane Barriault and husband, Ron of Windham; 14 grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Evelina Delisle of Rumford; two sisters, Cecile Reed of Augusta and Pearl Wing of Hallowell; and several nieces and nephews.
