Alice Metivier

RUMFORD - Alice Metivier, 94, formerly of 220 Franklin St., Rumford, died peacefully on March 26, 2009 at the Rumford Community Home, where she was a resident for the last year and a half.

She was born in Rumford, the daughter of Raoul and Ludora Lacroix; and she attended the Rumford school system.

Alice then married Alcide (Kid) Metivier on August 10, 1936. They shared 54 years together.

She is survived by her sons, Armand Metivier and wife, Doris of Jay, Phil Metivier and wife, Cathy of Old Town, and Maurice Metivier and wife, Joanne of Jay; seven grandchildren, Brian Metivier of Jay, Michelle ( Metivier) Knox of Livermore, Sarah (Metivier) Tidwell of Orono, Adam Metivier of Old Town, Nicole (Metivier) Nichols of Jay, Kelly Metivier of Jay, and Michael Metivier of Jay; five great grandchildren, Ashley and Justin Knox, Kaitlyn and Emily Nichols, and Gage Dalton; and Baby Tidwell, who is yet to be born; a sister, Irene Chase of Westbrook and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Kid; a daughter, Renee; two brothers, George Lacroix, and Armand (Buster) Lacroix; and two sisters, Lilian Lavigne and Carmen Lacroix. She will be sadly missed.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Rumford Community Home for the excellent care she received while residing there, as well as the Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, Tammy Bean and Mary Lacroix (Alice's niece) for the special care she received in her last moments. These people were heaven sent.

Bonnie Mowat Fircak

ELIZABETH TWP., PA -- Bonnie Mowat Fircak, 65, of Elizabeth, Twp., PA, passed away on Aug. 28, 2009.

She was born in Rumford, ME on July 2, 1944, the daughter of the late James and Dorothy Bryant Mowat. She was a manager for Family House in Oakland, PA.

She was a member of St. Mark's Church, Liberty Borough, a member and volunteer of TRIO-Transplant Recipient International Organization and volunteer for CORE-Center for Organ Recovery and Education and for Family House.

She is survived by two sons, Michel (Holly) Fircak of West Mifflin and Kevin (Stephanie) Fircak of Painesville, OH; three grandchildren, Shaunna, Samantha and Sara; siblings, Patricia McCusker of Elizabeth Twp., James (Cathy) Mowat of Venice, FL, and Kirk (Barbara) Mowat of Des Moines, IA; and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, Terrence Mowat.

Amy Jean Parent

RUMFORD - Amy Jean Parent, 35, of Mexico, died on June 17, 2010 in Rumford.

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine,

You make me happy when skies are blue.

You never know dear, how much I love you.

Please don’t take my sunshine away.

Amy will always live in the hearts of all who knew her.

She was born Sept. 2, 1974, and is a 1995 graduate of Mountain Valley High School. She was employed at the Hope Association, in Rumford. She served coffee at a Coffee Social every Thursday at the Rumford Community Home. She was a stock clerk at the What Not Shop. She delivered Meals on Wheels. She was a classroom volunteer at Park Avenue School in Auburn. She was a fantastic cribbage player who would take anyone on and won the 2008 WooHoo Cribbage Tournament Championship Plaque. She loved to knit, crochet and hook rugs. She was an avid washcloth maker. She is a Special Olympian. She loved all sports, especially wrestling, baseball, football, basketball and she was an avid bowler. She loved to fish and her casting ability was amazing! She cheered everyone on. She loved the P.E.I. jig. She was the best birthday and major family events calendar manager ever.

Amy is the daughter of Jean M. Blanchard and was predeceased by her father, William Blanchard, of Mexico; and Pepsi buddy brother-in-law, Jeff Jordan .

She is survived by her sister, Sharon Kauffman and brother-in-law, Matt Kauffman, of Auburn; her sister, Bente Jordan and two nieces, Emma Jean Jordan and Anna Rose Jordan of Hope; her brother, Mike Parent and sister-in-law, Lisa Parent, of Mexico; three nephews, Cliff McKinney and family of Auburn, Jonathan Martin of Boston, Mass. and Alex Parent of Mexico; niece, Abby Parent of Mexico; her brother, John Parent and sister-in-law, Nancy Parent; nephew, Jacob Parent and niece, Amelia Parent of Mont Vernon, N.H.; her brother Jim Parent and fiancee, Debbie Boyd, and niece,s Caroline Parent and Elizabeth Parent of Manassas, Va.; and her brother, David Parent and sister-in-law, Lori Parent and nieces, Halee Jandreau and Hannah Davis and nephew Gregory Davis, of Steep Falls! She leaves behind many friends at the Hope Association.

She was so looking forward to her “long vacation” in P.E.I. with her McNevin’s Family.

She used to always say, “I show you what a good time is!”

She was a woman of many words. “Go, Yankees!”, “Just trying to tell you in a nice way.”, “Don’t worry about it!”, “You dickless!”, “I beg your pardon.”, “Ooooo my favorite.”, “Alice!”, “Do your walk, do your talk, it’s all about you, brother!”, “I got to make a living for my family.”, “What’s up?”, “Party down, babe!”, “You're going down!”, “You got that old fart pin, Joe!”, “Getting drunk on Pepsi!”, “I’m a Pepsiholic!”, “Pepsi on the rocks.”, “I lost cuz I didn’t have my real partner!”, “I love my brothers and sisters all the same!”, “Just asking in a nice way.”, “You got me all your life.”, “Please forgive me. Give me one more chance.”, “Don’t start.”, “Don’t push it.” “You’re so gorgeous!”, “Ken, Kiss your wife!”, “You're good for my ego.”, “I’ll always be your aunt!”, “I’m the favorite aunt.”, “Oh, my word.”, “I don’t know what I’m gonna do about that.”, “You’re taking up my space.”, “I’m not your hand and foot.”, “What did you have for lunch?”, “What are you doing at work?”, “How many?”, “35! That’s my age!”

She loves everyone just the same. She is an angel smiling down upon us all! Thank you for all you taught us. Thank you to everyone for your love and support. Amy’s family.

Visiting hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at SG Thibault Funeral Home, 250 Penobscot St., Rumford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday at Parish of the Holy Savior. In lieu of flowers, donations in Amy’s memory may be made to the Hope Association, 85 Lincoln Ave., Rumford, ME 04276.

Henry Gerald Brooks

PERU -- Henry Gerald Brooks, 44, of Peru passed away March 25, 2003 at his home after suffering for three years with severe pain.

He was born Aug. 30, 1958, in Rumford, the son of Howard and Gloria (Byron) Brooks. He attended Peru Elementary School and Rumford High School.

He moved to Stafford Springs, CT where he lived and worked for many years. He eventually returned to Maine where his heart really was. He worked construction for Bremco.

He enjoyed working hard, playing hard, the outdoors and motorcycles. He loved his family and friends especially his only niece, Jasmine and one of his nephews, Jacob.

He is survived by his mother, Gloria Ring and her husband, Rod of Greenwood; grandmother, Audrey Byron Porter of New York; two sisters, Wanda and her husband, Thomas Smith of Friendship, and Crystal and her husband, Bob Sorenson of British Columbia; two brothers, Bill of Florida, and Randy and his wife, Kathy of Peru; nephews, Rick and Bryan Barkman, Jim and Bill Greene, and Jacob Brooks and his niece, Jasmine Brooks; many other relatives and friends, including Tim Calden and his cat, Kitty.

He was predeceased by his father; grandfather, Walter Byron; his uncle, Henry Byron; and his wonderful aunt, Bea Putnam.

Vada E. (Glover) Taylor

ST. PETERSBURG, FL -- Vada E. (Glover) Taylor, 76, died on November 27, 2004 at the Northside Heart Institute in St. Petersburg, Florida after a brief illness, with her devoted husband G. Dewey Taylor and her five devoted children at her side. She was a resident of Taggart Road in Rumford.

Born in Newry on February 18, 1928, she was a daughter of the late David and Vada (Hanscom) Enman. She was a graduate of Stephens High School with the Class of 1946.

She worked for SAD #6 in the payroll deptartment and in bookkeeping for over 25 years until her retirement in the early 90's. Upon her retirement she received a plaque for never missing payroll.

She enjoyed traveling and camping trips with her family. She was an avid reader and made wonderful pies. She was a caring and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her family.

She was happily married on December 5, 1946 to the late Verne W. Glover, who died March 4, 1992. She was married on June 2, 2001 to G. Dewey Taylor, who survives of Rumford.

Other survivors include her five children, Anita Parslow and her husband Bob of Dayton, Brenda Edgecomb and her husband, Wayne of Cornish, Cheryl Simonds and her husband, Harold of Buxton, David V. Glover, Sr. and his wife, Laurie of Rumford, and Eric Glover of Buxton; two stepsons, Robert A. Taylor and his wife, Susan of Dixfield, and Lawrence D. Taylor and his wife, Katherine of Peru; 16 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by a brother-in-law, Linwood Glover of Dayton; and two sisters-in-law, Fay Milligan and Estella Glover, both of Rumford; an aunt and uncle, Rodney and Kathy Hanscom of Bethel; and many nieces and nephews

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the Meader & Son Funeral Home, Rumford. Interment will be in the West Ellis Cemetery, Rumford. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Online condolences and shared memories can be expressed at meaderfh@gwi.net.

Eileen J. Goins

BRUNSWICK - Eileen J. Goins, 69, of Brunswick, died on April 7, 2006, at a local hospital.

She was born in Rumford on March 6, 1937, a daughter of Wallace and June Richards Bowden.

She worked as an administrator for the U.S. Civil Service for many years, including positions with the Central Intelligence Agency in Washington, DC and Supervisor of Shipbuilding in Bath.

She was a solitary, gentle person who required very little to enjoy life. She enjoyed the company of her dogs and cats who brought much meaning to her life. She also displayed dogs at shows around the country.

She is survived by two cousins, Norman and Jean Richards of Pueblo, Colorado; a sister in law, Barbara Bowden of Oklahoma; and a close friend, Sally Alexander of Wiscasset.

She is predeceased by her son, John Goins; and two brothers, Richard and Park Bowden.

Leonard James Regan

PORTLAND - Leonard James Regan, 90, of Portland, died peacefully on August 1, 2009 at his home surrounded by his large and loving family.

He was born on May 18, 1919, in Portland, a son of Charles P. and Mary E. (Gillis) Regan. He attended local schools, and graduated from Cheverus High School. Leonard furthered his education at the Shaw?s Business College.

During World War II, Leonard served for forty-five months as a Sergeant in the 77th U.S. Army Division Company A 302nd Engineer Battalion, deployed in the Pacific, participating in five amphibious landings.

Upon returning from the service, Leonard and his brother Frank joined their father in his business, creating C.P. Regan and Sons Sand and Gravel. He was a lifelong communicant of St. Patrick?s Church, a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus 293 Msgr. Houlihan Council, the V.F.W. Deering Portland, and the Irish American Club. Leonard was proud to live in Libby Town his entire life.

Leonard married his sweetheart, Mary M. Gallant, who waited for him to return from service in the Army. They were happily married, and would be celebrating their 63rd wedding anniversary on August 24, 2009. The joys

of his life were his wife, daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He shared the love of life with family and friends. Leonard enjoyed growing tomatoes, visiting with family and friends, and Red Sox and Sea Dogs games.

Besides his wife of Portland, he is survived by daughters, Marie and her husband, Norm Charleston of Rumford, Ann Regan of Steamboat Springs, CO; a son-in-law, Wayne Hedrick of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; daughters, Dorothy

Regan, DMD, and her husband, David Driscoll of Standish, Patricia Regan of Portland, Barbara and her husband, Gary Hogg of The Woodlands, Texas, Rita and her husband, Robert Travis of Windham, and Teresa Regan of Portland; 13 grandchildren, Kristin and husband, Adam Parys, Kevin Charleston and wife, Jennifer, Peter Hand and wife, Naomi, Stephanie and husband, Gareth Osborn, Matthew and Keith Hedrick, Joseph, Elizabeth and Marc Regan, Neal and Caroline Hogg, Robert and Sean McDonough; great-grandchildren, Ben and Emily Charleston, Maxx Parys, and Aspen and Fletcher Hand; sisters-in-law, Alice Regan Sr. Muriel Gallant, MM, Teresa Moreland and her husband, Leon, and Dorothy Ellison; brothers-in-law, C. Edwin Gallant and wife, Gloria, and Francis Gallant and wife, Ellin; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Leonard was predeceased by a daughter, Joan Regan Hedrick; his brother, Francis ?Frank? J. Regan; and a brother-in-law, Gerald Gallant.

The Regan family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Stephanie at Dr. Aronson?s office, the healthcare providers at Hospice of Southern Maine, and all who cared and visited during the last few months.

Family and friends are invited to attend a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday at St. Patrick?s Church, 1342 Congress St., Portland. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Leonard?s memory may be made to St. Patrick?s Church, 1342 Congress Street, Portland, or to the charity of your choice.

Arlene B. Swett

DIXFIELD -- Arlene B. Swett, 94, of Dixfield, died upon arrival at the Emergency Room of the Rumford Hospital, Rumford on Sept. 8, 2009.

She was born July 27, 1915, in Carthage, a daughter of Erlon and Harriet (Savage) Berry. She graduated from Dixfield High School and Bliss Business College.

On June 29, 1941, she married Clayton Swett. They enjoyed 64 years of marriage. He predeceased her in 2005.

For many years, she was employed as a bookkeeper for Ralph L. Clarke Plumbing in Rumford and later for Hudon Furniture Co. in Rumford.

Her favorite hobby was reading and her most precious time was spent in the company of her family.

She is survived by a daughter, Priscilla Sayce of Dixfield; two sons, Clayton Swett, Jr. of Dixfield and Jeffrey Swett of Florida; foru grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and she was awaiting the birth of a seventh; two sisters, Dorothy Mason of Carthage and Lucile Bradbury of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her folks; her husband; two siblings, Wendell Berry and Beatrice Johnson; and a great-granddaughter, Kaylee Swett.
