Isiah M. Boivin
2003-2003
AUGUSTA Isiah Matthew Boivin passed away peacefully at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta, Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, in his sleep because of SIDS.
He was born Jan. 10, 2003, in Augusta.
His memory will live on in the hearts of his mother, Michelle A. Berryman, and his father, Rayno M. Boivin.
He will be sadly missed by his brother and sister, Caleb and Brandy Boivin, both of Augusta.
He is also survived by his maternal grandparents, Michael and Christine Berryman of Augusta; paternal grandparents Randal Boivin and Karen Morey of Augusta; great-grandmother Mary-Ann Dalbeck of Vassalboro, maternal great-grandparents Marie and Barry Lawson of Augusta, and paternal great-grandparents Maynard and Jennie Boivin of Florida; uncles Randy Boivin and fiancee Laura, Christopher Berryman, Andrew Berryman and Joseph Berryman; aunt Cecilia Berryman; and cousins.
Visiting hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St., Fairfield, where a funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2. A graveside service will be announced in the spring.
Barbara Ellen Crockett
1937-2003
AUGUSTA Barbara Ellen Crockett, 66, of Augusta died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation, Graybirch Drive in Augusta.
She was born in Medford, Mass., Jan. 9, 1937, the daughter of Henry Brown "Brownie" and Alice (Robinson) Crockett.
Barbara attended school in Medford and graduated from Framingham Teachers' College.
She later did course work at Simmons College in Boston, at the University of Maine's Portland and Augusta campuses, at Framingham State Teachers College and at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
Miss Crockett taught home economics in Reading, Newburyport and Middleboro, Mass., and later in Sebago.
She worked for the Maine Department of Education, School Nutrition Program as a consultant until her retirement in 1991.
While working for the state, she was president of the Maine School Food Service Association for several years.
After retiring, Barbara held several part-time jobs, including receptionist at the Augusta YMCA, clerk positions at Down East Candies and Harbor Village Wash and Dry, both in Boothbay Harbor.
She also became active in the Maine Breast Cancer Coalition, of which she was vice president and chairwoman of the education committee and the support services committee.
In 1999, Barbara drove alone in her pickup truck to Florida to see her brother-in-law, Dick Pond, and her sister Betty.
Barbara is survived by her sister, Betty Pond of Ocala, Fla., and Ocean Point; a niece, Jeanne Streets of El Segundo, Calif.; a nephew, Mark Pond of Sterling, Va.; their families; and her cat, Puss.
At her request, there will be a graveside service in the spring in Boothbay.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Cancer Research Foundation of America, 1600 Duke St., Alexandria, VA 22314 or Boothbay Region Humane Society, 27 Atlantic Highway, Edgecomb 04556.

Lorraine H. Gilley
1935-2003
MONMOUTH Lorraine H. Gilley, 67, of Route 135, Monmouth, died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at her home with her loving family by her side after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
She was born in Hallowell, Dec. 4, 1935, the daughter of Pearl and Harriette (Lambert) Whitten.
She attended schools in Gardiner and worked for Lipman Poultry and Chick Orchards.
She joined James Gilley in marriage Nov. 22, 1958.
Among her interests were reading, flower gardening, and most importantly, spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband, James Gilley Sr., of Monmouth; three sons, James C. Gilley Jr. and his companion, Celine Gagnon, of West Gardiner, Gary Gilley and his wife, Kathryn, of Vienna, and Jeffery Gilley and his wife, Peggy, of West Gardiner; two daughters, Donna Tims and her fiancι, Greg Jones, of Buckfield, and Linda Campbell and her companion, Reggie McFarlane, of Lewiston; nine grandchildren; three brothers, Pearley Whitten and his wife, Louise, of Chelsea, Paul Whitten and his wife, Elsie, of Hallowell, and Pearl Whitten Jr. of Gardiner; and four sisters, Margaret Massey of Richmond, Priscilla and her husband, Lawrence Wing, of Winthrop, Pamela and her husband, Roland Kennerson, of West Gardiner, and April and her husband, Lorien Mathieu, of Litchfield.
At the request of the family, visitation and service will be private.
Burial will be in Monmouth Ridge Cemetery, Monmouth, at the convenience of the family.

Douglas W. Hardy
1915-2003
AUGUSTA Douglas W. Hardy, 87, of Augusta, died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation in Augusta.
He was born in Weld, Feb. 2, 1915, the son of Ronald and Theo (Collins) Hardy.
Douglas attended Wilton Academy. He married Hazel (Holman) Hardy on Dec. 14, 1935.
He worked for many years at Bass Shoe in Wilton and then later at Douglas Aircraft in California.
During World War II he attended bomb disposal school in Aberdeen, Md., after which he was sent to Iran and Egypt.
After the war, he managed Har-Co Sporting Goods in Augusta.
When the store closed, he went to work for the Maine Liquor Commission, working as a store manager in both Wilton and Farmington until his retirement.
In his spare time, Douglas enjoyed golf,
hunting
, fishing, gardening and talking to people.
Mr. Hardy was predeceased by his wife, Hazel, in 2000.
He is survived by two sons, Spencer Hardy and his wife, Barbetta, of Westbrook, and Malcolm Hardy and his wife, Frances, of Greene; five grandchildren, Thomas, Joshua, Andrew and Kimble Hardy, and Karin Kelley; one stepgrandson, Aaron Stasulis; and one great-grandchild, Kasey Kelley.
A graveside service will be held in the spring at Pine Grove Cemetery
in Belgrade.

Robert A. McFee
1939-2003
LITCHFIELD Robert A. McFee, 63, of Plains Road, passed away peacefully at his home Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, surrounded by family.
He was born in Richmond, Aug. 31, 1939, the son of Earl and Catherine (McBurnie) McFee.
Bob was served in the armed forces. After completing his tour of duty, he returned to Maine and became a truck driver for the Wadleigh Oil Co., where he worked for 20 years, retiring in 2001.
Robert was a member of several organizations, including the Gardiner Post 4, American Legion; Veterans of Foreign Wars; and the Gardiner Eagles. Bob enjoyed anything with the outdoors, especially fishing and camping.
Bob was predeceased by his parents and his wife, Elaine Robbins McFee.
He is survived by daughters Lisa McFee of Litchfield and Tina McFee of Lewiston; sons Robert McFee Jr. of Litchfield and Earl McFee of Richmond; companion Lorraine Thibodeau of Litchfield; and grandchildren Connor Elwell, Terra Getchell and Michael Gallagher, all of Litchfield.
Services will be held at Litchfield Plains Baptist Church on Tuesday, February 4, at 11 a.m., with Pastor John Hall officiating.
A tribute will be offered from the Gardiner Eagles Club.
Burial will be in the spring at Litchfield Plains Cemetery.

Ira F. Dole
1913-2003
AUGUSTA Ira Frederic Dole, 89, died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta.
He lived on Fairview Avenue in Augusta for 46 years prior to his move to Granite Hill Estates in 2000.
He was born in Brewer, Aug. 21, 1913, a son of Eugene Morris Dole and Minnie (Floyd) Dole.
He was graduated from Bangor High School in 1932 and the University of Maine at Orono in 1936 with a degree in civil engineering.
In 1939 in Bangor, he married Dorothy Nealey, who predeceased him in 2001.
He worked for Central Maine Power Co. for 33 years and retired in 1978.
He was a trustee of South Parish Congregational Church and a member for 50 years and sang with the Lamplighters, a local singing group.
He enjoyed his large family, gardening, tennis and woodworking, and he was an ardent, loyal, but frustrated Red Sox fan.
He was devoted to his dogs, Newfoundland and others.
He is survived by three daughters, Nancy Curtin and her husband, Richard, of Sanibel, Fla., and West Gardiner; Judith Byers and her husband, John of Sanford, N.C.; and Jean Goodwin and her husband, Tom, of Naples, Fla.
He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Jill Goodwin Brown, Amie Goodwin Guindon, Scott Goodwin, Petty Officer 1st Class Geoffrey Byers, Andrew Byers, Dana Curtin Granados, Richard Curtin Jr., Andrew Curtin, Karen Curtin Voorhees, Kathryn Curtin, Brian Curtin and Elizabeth Curtin Hayes; and 12 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Floyd Dole of Bangor.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Josephine Baron Whyte
1914-2003
ROCKVILLE, Md. Josephine Baron Whyte, 88, passed away peacefully Jan. 20, 2003, after a long battle with cancer.
She is survived by her daughter, Shelley Clark and son-in-law Rod of Maryland; and two sisters, Frances Greeley and husband, Robert, of Gardiner, and Stella Theberge and her husband, Guy, of Lewiston, as well as seven nieces and a nephew.
Josephine was born in Lewiston, Nov. 8, 1914.
She graduated from Lewiston High School in 1932 and moved to Washington, D.C., in the early 1940s to begin a career with the federal government. For most of her 88 years, she was very active in her community and a tireless fund raiser for various charitable organizations: The Good Samaritan Society, The Ladies of Charity and St. Ignatius Parish.
A memorial Mass was held Jan. 25 in Maryland, and on Feb. 16 another Mass is scheduled at St. Joseph's in Gardiner.
She will be laid to rest next to her parents, Lawrence and Magda Brown, and brother Stanley in the spring at Mount Hope Cemetery
in Lewiston, Maine.
