Florence A. Chabot
1915-2003
LEWISTON Florence A. Chabot, 87, of 292 Webber Ave., died Friday, July 25, 2003, at Ste. Marguerite d'Youville Pavilion, surrounded by her family.
Born in Augusta, Aug. 15, 1915, a daughter of Archelas and Philomene Gagne Dostie, she was educated in Lewiston schools. She worked as homemaker as she and her husband raised their family, but she also spent many years employed in the local shoe industry of Lewiston-Auburn.
Mrs. Chabot was a member of Holy Cross Parish, Holy Cross Senior Citizens and enjoyed playing beano, making crafts, puzzles and playing cards.
She is survived by her husband, Robert H. Chabot of Lewiston, whom she married Nov. 9, 1940; three daughters, Doris Ellison-Chabot of West Hills, Calif., Dolores Blondin and husband Gerard of Auburn, and Diane Rioux and husband Robert of Lewiston; eight grandchildren, Scott, Christy, Nicole, Chad, Anthony, Alan, Michelle and Kevin; 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Rose Theriault of Auburn.
She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Cindi; three sisters, Yvonne, Alda and Lilliane; and four brothers, Philias, Adelbert, Adelard and Leo.
Visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, July 28, at the Fortin Group Funeral Home in Lewiston. Funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, at the Holy Cross Church. Committal will be in St. Peter's Cemetery.

Harold N. Olsson
1911-2003
SKOWHEGAN Harold N. Olsson, 92, of Skowhegan, passed away on July 23, 2003, at Eastern Maine Medical Center, Bangor, with his family by his side. His death was due to complications from open heart surgery.
He was born Jan. 4, 1911, in Braintree, Mass., the son of Neil and Irene (Hamilton) Olsson of East Skowhegan and Belgrade.
In 1916, at the age of 5, he took his first seafaring journey with his dad, Capt. Neil Olsson, aboard the sailing ship the S.S. Harvard. He continued his seafaring life with the Merchant Marine starting in 1931 with Standard Oil shipping out of New York. In 1937 he became a card-bearing union member of the Merchant Marine, starting out as an able-bodied seaman, retiring as quartermaster. He served on many merchant ships visiting many ports around the world. Dedication of the sailing ship S.S. Harvard will be in honor of Harold at the Penobscot Marine Museum later this summer.
For many years Harold was the mainstay in the operations of a large dairy farm on East Ridge and Eaton Mountain roads in East Skowhegan. He was an avid dairy farmer and gardener who really enjoyed the serene and peaceful life of country living. At retirement he continued employment at Norwock Shoe Co., in Skowhegan until 1973. He was a member of Notre Dame de Lourdes Church and former member of the Skowhegan Grange. Harold was a warm, gentle, and loving human being and will be sadly missed by his family and all who knew him.
He was predeceased by his wife Delores; twin brothers Charles and Granville Olsson; sisters Monica Olsson, Germaine Frederick, Evelyn Jenkins, Helen Pierce and Molly Bemis.
Harold is survived by a step-daughter, Joan Gilbert-Croteau and husband Robert of Skowhegan; step-son Ronald Gilbert and partner Elaine Nelson of Canaan; a twin brother, James L. Olsson and wife Roberta of Tustin, Calif.; a sister, Muriel M. Doucette and husband Howard of South China; grandchildren, Barbara Belliveau, Craig Belliveau and wife Shelly, Laurie Belliveau, Michelle Gilbert, Monica Gilbert and Mindy Gilbert; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
There will be no public visitation hours. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 10 a.m. Monday, July 28, at Notre Dame de Lourdes Church, Water Street, Skowhegan, with the Rev. Maurice Morin officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Skowhegan.

Ellen Hunter Achorn
1922-2003
WALDOBORO Ellen Hunter Achorn, 81, of Waldoboro passed away Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport.
Ellen was born May 21, 1922, in Berkeley, R.I., the daughter of Matthew and Emily Cottrell Hunter.
She graduated in 1940 from Lewiston High School. She was employed in the office of F.W. Woolworth Co. for three years before moving to Hallowell with her family. The next three years she was employed in the personnel office of Edwards Manufacturing Co. in Augusta. In 1946 she married Philip H. Achorn of Hallowell and lived there 10 years before moving to the Madison-Skowhegan area, where her husband was employed by Depositors Trust Co.
She was a loving wife and mother, dedicating her life to her husband and three fine sons. She was especially proud of her five grandchildren.
She was a volunteer at Fieldcrest Nursing Home in Waldoboro. She was a member of the Redington-Fairview General Hospital Women's Auxiliary in Skowhegan and the Women's Club of Waldoboro. She was also a member of the Old South Congregational Church in Hallowell, and attended the Orff's Corner Community Church in Waldoboro.
She was predeceased by a son, David P. Achorn of Chelsea; and brother David Hunter of Augusta.
She is survived by her husband, Philip H. Achorn of Waldoboro; sons Stephen A. Achorn and his wife, Cathie, of Upton, Mass., Paul R. Achorn and his wife, Suzanne L., of Chelsea; grandchildren Angela and Julie Achorn of Upton, and Bradley, Vanessa and Stephanie Achorn of Chelsea; brothers Matthew Hunter and his wife, Elsie, of Chelsea, Thomas Hunter and his wife, Dorothy, of Monmouth, and Ralph Hunter and his wife, Barbara, of Ocala, Fla.
Visiting hours will be 6-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, at Hall Funeral Home, Waldoboro, followed by a reception at Broad Bay Congregational Church, next to the funeral home. The Rev. Robert Bellows will officiate. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, in the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road in Augusta.
In memory of Ellen and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Beth M. Paige
1961-2003
AUGUSTA Beth M. Paige, 42, of Littlefield Drive, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, at Mid Coast Medical Center in Brunswick following a long illness.
She was born in Auburn, Wash., on Aug. 11, 1961, the daughter of Charles J. and Rose M. Thompson Dillman. She attended local schools there.
Beth loved to play games, especially bingo and yahtzee. She did many different types of crafts, and was a real Star Trek fan. She loved traveling and had visited almost every state.
Her favorite time was spent with her family, whether it was during the holidays, family picnics or just being together. She was a member of the Eagles Club in Washington.
She is survived by both her parents in Washington; two daughters, Shelley A. and her husband, Herbie E. Burnham, of Southport, and Sherrey A. Paige of Augusta; two sisters, Marlene L. and her husband, Craig A. Tibbetts, of Bowdoin, and Kelly R. Stone of Augusta; three brothers, Charles J. Dillman of Washington, Burma E. Shaver of Washington, and Shawn A. King of California; one grandson, Clarence A. Burnham of Southport; several nieces and nephews.
At the family's request there will be no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 1, at the David E. Desmond Funeral Home, 638 High St., Bath, with the Rev. Dan Coffin officiating. Burial will be private.
Robert Henry Pettengill
1910-2003
NORTH MONMOUTH Robert Henry Pettengill, 93, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, at Heritage Rehabilitation & Living Center in Winthrop.
He was born in Leeds on March 14, 1910, the son of Irving H. and Mary Louise (Robinson) Pettengill.
Mr. Pettengill was a graduate of Monmouth Academy, class of 1929. He was one of the first milkmen to collect bulk milk in Leeds, Wales, and the surrounding areas. He later worked as a carpenter for many years before farming and raising chickens.
Mr. Pettengill was a friend and constable to many of the children growing up in the area. He held positions as deputy sheriff, assistant chief for the Monmouth Fire Department, and president of the Monmouth Fair for many years. He was a 78-year member of the Monmouth Grange, a member of the National Rifle Association, Sportsman's Alliance of Maine, and a life member of Monmouth Fish & Game.
An avid outdoorsman, Mr. Pettengill enjoyed
hunting even into his senior years, having tagged his first moose at the age of 78. One of his favorite things to do was to take his family and friends on cruises in his party barge.
Mr. Pettengill was predeceased by two sisters, Pauline Chretien and Amy Cooper.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruby Pettengill of North Monmouth; a son, Robert Howard Pettengill and his companion, Sherry, of North Monmouth; a sister, Phyllis Critcherson, of Pawcatuck, Conn., and Zephyrhills, Fla.; two grandchildren, Robert Allen Pettengill and his wife, Dawn, of North Monmouth and Rebecca Fortier of Sabattus; two great-grandchildren, R.J. Pettengill of North Monmouth and Cody Fortier of Sabattus; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visiting will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 29, at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 2, at Monmouth Ridge Cemetery, Ridge Road, Monmouth.
Mildred A. Wood
1927-2003
FARMINGDALE Mildred A. Wood, 76, of Riverview Drive, went to be with her Lord Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, after a long illness.
She was born on Jan. 3, 1927, a daughter of Percy and Hattie Albee.
Millie was a loving mother, wife and grandmother. She was a faithful member of the Chelsea Praise and Worship Center.
She loved cats and dogs. She enjoyed painting, coloring, crocheting and knitting.
Millie is survived by her husband of 46 years, Harry F. Wood of Farmingdale; two sons, William P. Wood and his wife, Lisa, of Hallowell, and Benjamin F. Wood and his wife, Kathleen, and their dog Baxter, of Fairfield; five grandchildren, James, Joshua, Elizabeth, Patrick and Crystal.
Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner. Burial will be in the Chadwick Hill Cemetery, South China. A gathering of family and friends will be held following the services at the Chelsea Praise and Worship Center, Route 17, Chelsea.
David Crosby
AUGUSTA David Crosby, 71, of Manley Street, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta.
He was born May 30, 1928, in Dexter, son of Clarence and Helen (Foss) Crosby, and graduated from Cushing Academy in Hadley, Mass., and Nichols Academy in Northampton, Mass.
An Army veteran of the Korean War, he was a purchasing agent for Shreve, Crump & Lowe in Boston, and later for Thomas Machine Co. in Bangor.
Together with his wife, he owned and operated Crosby Bed & Breakfast in Augusta. He then was employed by the state Department of Motor Vehicles (commercial division) until retiring in 1995.
He was a member of the Universalist-Unitarian Church in both Dexter and Auburn. He was a member of American Legion Post 53 and Penobscot Lodge 39 AF&AM, both in Dexter.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce J. Crosby, of Augusta; son, Mark David Crosby, of Augusta; daughter, Ann Crosby Chase, of Larchmont, N.Y.; his sister, Isabella Shipman, and husband, Wayne, of Wolfeboro, N.H., and brother, Charles J. Crosby, and wife, Barbara, of Natick, Mass.; two grandchildren, Elliot and Evan Chase, both of Larchmont; sister-in-law, Carol Gregory, and husband, Howard, of East Falmouth, Mass.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visiting hours will be held from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service Monday, Feb. 28, at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta, with the Rev. Calvin Dame officiating. Spring burial will be held at Mount Pleasant Cemetery
in Dexter.
