Keene Service

AUGUSTA — A funeral service for William F. Keene, who died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, was held Monday morning, Jan. 29, at Manchester Community Church, with Rev. Ernest Johnson, pastor, officiating.

His daughter, Donna Rousseau, his son, Todd Keene, and a special friend, Nancy Marshall Holt, offered words of remembrance.

There were representatives from the church, Department of Environmental Protection, Augusta Fire Department, Manchester Volunteer Fire Department, H.O. Bouchard Trucking, Clover Manor Health Care, of Auburn, and Liberty Mutual, of Portsmouth, N.H.

Pallbearers, all retirees of the Augusta Fire Depatment, were Norman Arbour, Norman Hallowell, Richard Raynes, Howard Antworth, Bill Weymouth and Pete Crosby.

The bagpipes were played by David Farr.

Spring interment is planned, in Manchester Forks Cemetery.

Arrangements were by Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta.

Lizotte Service

AUGUSTA — A Mass of Christian burial for Agnes Eva Lizotte, who died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, was celebrated Saturday morning, Feb. 3, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, with Rev. Michael Seavey, pastor, officiating.

Altar servers were Juan Guzman and Conrad Beauregard. Organist was David Stewart and soloist was Michelle Caliandro.

The first reading was given by Theresa Cyr and the second reading was given by Lucinda Long. Taking part in the Offertory Procession were Theresa Cyr and Florence Dulac.

There were representatives from the church.

Pallbearers were Clifford Moulton, Chip Moulton, Dennis Wheelock and Bob Gallant.

Spring burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Manchester.

Arrangements were by Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta.

Geneva G. Anzer

WINTHROP — Geneva G. Anzer, 90, formerly of Winthrop, died peacefully at the Country Manor Nursing Home in Coopers Mills, Thursday, March 29, 2001, where she had resided for the last few years. She had been in failing health for some time.

She was born Nov. 14, 1910, in Millinocket, the second daughter of Raphael and Carmela (Della Mosica) Giannandrea. In 1921 the family moved to Mount Vernon. She was educated in Millinocket and Mount Vernon schools. Later she moved to Winthrop, where she spent most of her adult life, with the exception of a year in the mid-1940s, when she resided with her sister, Eunice Del Piano and her family, in Jersey City, N.J. At that time she was employed by the A&P in their produce warehouse. She was employed at the Winthrop Woolen Mills for a few years upon her return to Maine.

Geneva had a warm sense of humor and a ready smile. She was fond of nature and loved animals, especially her cats. She loved to dance and was a doting aunt to her many nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her sister, Eunice Del Piano, of Jersey City, N.J., and a brother, Herbert Giandrea, of Gardiner, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents, sisters, Mary O'Connor Coffin, of Winthrop, and Myra Guay, of Glendale, Calif., and her brother, Albert Giandrea, of Augusta.

Her former husband, Gilbert Anzer, died Aug. 7, 1973.

Friends and relatives may visit 2-4 p.m. Monday, April 2, at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated, at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 3, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Winthrop, with Rev. Sylvio Levesque, the celebrant. Spring burial will be in Glenside Cemetery.

Ruth Delores Murphy

LEWISTON — Ruth Delores Murphy, 82, a resident of Bog Road, Leeds, died Friday, March 30, 2001, at Central Maine Medical Center, Lewiston, following a brief illness.

She was born in Little Deer Isle, June 17, 1918, the daughter of Russell and Carrie Glaser Haskell, and attended school in Little Deer Isle, New York and New Jersey.

On April 13, 1957, she married Thomas A. Murphy, in Glenburnie, Md. Mr. Murphy passed away Nov. 28, 1985.

She was a member of Leeds Church of the Nazarene, where she also taught Sunday school, and was a member of the Golden Years Club of Monmouth.

Mrs. Murphy was predeceased by a sister, Rozanne Wilkes, in December of 1994.

She is survived by a niece, Delores Cress, of Glenburnie; three nephews, James Wilkes, of Glenburnie, Robert Wilkes, of Gladstone, Va. and Franklin Wilkes, of Hawaii.

Visiting hours are 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 2, at Bragdon-Finley Funeral Home, 707 Main St., Monmouth. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, at Leeds Church of the Nazarene, Leeds. Spring interment will occur in Litchfield Plains Cemetery, Litchfield.

If desired, contributions may be made in Ruth's memory to Leeds Church of the Nazarene, Leeds Jct. Road, Leeds 04263, or Russell Medical Center, Church Hill Road, Leeds 04263.

Marjorie L. Davis Corbin

RANDOLPH — Marjorie Louise Davis Corbin, 87, formerly of Water Street in Randolph, and a resident of Parkview Nursing Home in Livermore Falls, where she received excellent care, passed away peacefully Friday, Oct. 19, 2001, at the Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington.

She was born April 6, 1914, in Weeks Mills, daughter of Arthur Sr. and Elizabeth (Nickless) Davis.

Her husband, Elmore S. Corbin, died July 28, 1996. Her two daughters, Gertrude Tarr, died Nov. 17, 1960, and Irma L. Bickford, died March 18, 1997. Her granddaughter, Tina Sevigny, died Jan. 6, 1979. Her two brothers, Kenneth Davis and Arthur F. Davis Jr., and her sister, Evelyn Slocumb, also predeceased her.

Survivors include her son, Roger S. Corbin and his wife, Cathy, of Livermore Falls; her daughter, Lorna E. Spencer and her husband, Bob, of Wilton; nine grandchildren, Michael Tarr, Cheryl Tarr Adams, Russell Bickford, Edward Bickford, Lori Rondyke, Donna Fischer, Jill Ferland, Lori Shink, Robbie Spencer; a special nephew, Theodore Erving; 12 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild, due Jan. 2002, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, at the Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner, where a funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22. Burial will follow in the family lot at Maple Grove Extension Cemetery, in Randolph. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association, Maine Chapter, 86 Pleasant Hill Road, Scarborough 04074; or Parkview Activity Fund, Parkview Avenue, Livermore Falls 04254.

Elinor Kimball Woodcock

LEWISTON — Elinor Kimball Woodcock, 88, formerly of Spring Meadow Road, North Monmouth, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at the Russell Park Manor Nursing Home, where she had been a resident for the past week.

Born in Edgartown, Martha's Vineyard, Mass., Dec. 22, 1912, she was the daughter of Francis and Orea Cox Kimball. Educated locally, she graduated from Edward Little High School in 1931.

On June 27, 1936, she was married to Frederick C. Woodcock Jr. He passed away Aug. 29, 1980.

She was employed for several years as a dental assistant by Drs. Archer Jordan and Franklin Chase, and later worked as a stitcher for Bates Mfg. Co. until her retirement in 1975, at which time she moved to North Monmouth. She belonged to Lewiston Senior Citizens, BDW Watershed Association, Horizon 55, and she was an avid bowler.

She leaves two sons, Frederick C. Woodcock III, and wife, Anita, of Lewiston, and George W. Woodcock, and wife, Judy, of Tyler, Texas; a sister, Madeline Rowe, of Farmingdale; three grandsons, Frederick C. Woodcock IV, Scott Woodcock, and Sean Woodcock; a granddaughter, Heather Woodcock, two great-grandsons and three great-granddaughters.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are in the care of Albert & Burpee Funeral Home, Lewiston.

Ada J. Evans

GARDINER — Ada Julia Evans, 94, formerly of West Hill Road in Gardiner, died Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, at Robinson's Health Care Facility in Gardiner.

She was born in Somerville, Mass., June 20, 1907, the daughter of William and Clara (Williams) Reynolds.

She was a member of Christ Church Episcopal in Gardiner and the Rebekahs.

She is survived by six daughters, Patricia Tuttle, and her husband, Gerry, of Augusta, Shirley Sinclair, and her husband, Robert, of Winthrop, Janice Pushard, and her husband, Paul, of Augusta, Nancy Pare, and husband, Grant, of Gardiner, Judy Moody, of Auburn, Rhonda O'Mara, of Hampton, N.H.; two sons, Ronald (Bud) Evans, of Litchfield, and Robert Evans, of Fitchburg, Mass.; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, in the family lot at Mount Hope Cemetery in Augusta. Arrangements are under the care of Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner.

Pauline M.J. Poulin

AUGUSTA — A Mass of Christian burial for Pauline M.J. Poulin, who died Monday, Nov. 19, 2001, was celebrated Saturday morning at St. Augustine Catholic Church with the Rev. Raymond Lagace, OFM, officiating. Altar servers were Romeo Tardiff and Patrick Jean. The first reading was given by a niece, Donna Emery, and the second reading was given by a nephew, Richard "Ricky" Poulin. The Responsorial Psalm was read by a brother, Alphonse Poulin. Taking part in the Offertory Procession were great-nieces and great-nephews, Michael Poulin, Alyssa Brochu, Andrew Emery and Ashley Wellman.

There were representatives from the church, Kennebec Savings Bank, St. Mary's of the Assumption Catholic Church and Le Club Calumet. Honorary pallbearers representing Le Club Calumet were Harry Roy, Valmond Beaudry and Norman R. Veilleux. Active pallbearers, all nephews, were Richard Poulin, Norman Poulin, Chad Bolduc, Steve Garand, Pat Garand and David Poulin. Burial was in the Holy Family Cemetery where the Rev. Lagace offered the committal prayers. Arrangements were under the direction of Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta.

G. Bradford Brown

OAKLAND — G. Bradford Brown, 64, of Oakland, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center at Togus.

He was born in Waterville, April 11, 1937, the son of George L. and Alice (Manter) Brown. Bradford graduated from Lawrence High School of Fairfield, class of 1955, and attended Kents Hill School. He earned a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Maine at Farmington and did graduate work at the University of Maine at Farmington and the University of Hartford in Connecticut.

He taught school in Connecticut and in Waterville.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam and was a member of the Bourque Lanigan Post American Legion. He was also a former member of the Oakland-Sidney United Methodist Church.

Surviving is a special friend, Beverly Wrigley of Oakland; a cousin, Elizabeth Abbott and husband, Linwood, who have been a great help to Bradford for the past several years; and several other cousins.

At his request there will be no visiting hours or funeral service. Following cremation, burial will be at the Lake View Cemetery in Oakland. Arrangements are in the care of Wheeler Funeral Home in Oakland. Contributions in Bradford's memory may be made to the Oakland Public Library Renovation Fund, c/o Carol Cooley, Librarian, 18 Church St., Oakland ME 04963.

Dr. Robert Loring Ohler

AUGUSTA — Dr. Robert Loring Ohler, 85, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at the Maine Veterans Home in Augusta.

He was born Feb. 28, 1916, in Newton Center, Mass. He grew up in Newton Center, where he was active in scouting and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Newton High School in 1933, from the University of Maine Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in forestry in 1937, and from Harvard Medical School in 1941. While in college and medical school, Bob began a long time association with the Appalachian Mountain Club working as a hutman and later as hut master at several of the AMC huts in the White Mountains. In 1988, at the age of 72, he climbed up to Madison Spring Hut to participate in the hut's centennial celebration, representing hutmen of the 1930s.

He married Priscilla Farrar Arnold of Milton, Mass., Dec. 24, 1939. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific as Chief Medical Officer aboard the destroyer, the USS Orca. He retired from the Naval Reserve in 1976 with the rank of captain, having served as chief medical officer at the Naval Reserve Unit in Augusta for a number of years. Following his active naval service, Dr. Ohler was assistant chief of medicine at the Veterans Administration Hospital in West Roxbury, Mass.

In 1950 he moved to Maine to become chief of medicine at the Togus Veterans Administration Hospital (VAMROC) and later served as chief of staff. Among the innovations he brought to Togus was a poison control center for the area.

In 1972, he married Ernestine Dumais after the death of his first wife. Following his retirement from Togus in 1977, he worked at the Belgrade Health Center, for Medical Care Development of Augusta, and later in private practice in rheumatology. He continued his connection with Togus as a consultant.

Dr. Ohler was one of the founders of the Family Medical Institute and was the first Chairman of the Board of the Maine Veterans Home. He was also a fellow of the American College of Physicians. His non-medical interests were numerous. He was longtime president of the Kennebec Valley Girl Scout Council. He was active in the Abnaki Outing Club and led an annual trip to Baxter Park for many years. He loved Mt. Katahdin and was a member of the Baxter Park Advisory Committee. He was a 40-year member of the Augusta Kiwanis Club and was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Winthrop.

He is survived by his wife, Ernestine Dumais Ohler, of Augusta; a son, Jeffrey Ohler and his wife, Patricia, of Auburn; a daughter, Priscilla Penny Markley and her husband, Reed, of Manchester; and three grandsons, Nathan Ohler of Atlanta, Ga., Nicholas Ohler of Ithaca, N.Y., and Keith Markley of Bridgeton.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Western Avenue, Augusta, with the Rev. Mike Gendreau celebrant. Burial will be held in the spring at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Livermore Falls. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made either to the American Alzheimer's Association, Maine Chapter, 163 Lancaster St., Suite 160B, Portland ME 04101-2406; or to the University of Maine Alumni Association, PO Box 550, Orono ME 04473-0550.
