Dennis J. (Joseph) Boudreau
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. —Dennis J. (Joseph) Boudreau, 77, of 1100 Mohawk Trail, died Saturday morning, May 26, 2001, at the Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility of Pittsfield in Massachusetts after his admission the 23rd. Death followed a long chronic illness.
He was born April 29, 1924, in Waterville, Maine, son of the late Richard J. and Lucy (Theriault) Boudreau, attended Waterville schools and in 1941 entered the U.S. Army Air Force when World War II hostilities erupted. He served as a corporal with the 32nd Troop Carrier Squadron, seeing action in the Rome and Normandy invasions, and also served with distinction in the Arno, Northern and Southern France campaigns, the Rhineland/ Ardennes and Central Europe Theatres.
He was an accomplished heavy equipment operator and was employed by various construction companies including the Hutchinson Corporation, RABDAL Co., Ayotte & Galusha Corporation, and Petricca Industries, retiring in 1984.
He was a member of Local 98 of the Operating Engineers of AFL-CIO of Pittsfield. He was a member of the Notre Dame/St. Thomas Aquinas Parish of Adams.
His first wife, the former Marian Gould, died in May of 1963.
Survivors include his present wife, the former Mary I. Maynard, of North Adams, whom he married Sept. 14, 1965; a son, Robert D. Boudreau, of Opa-Locka, Fla.; stepson, Robert R. Ziaja, of Adams; daughter, Ms. Gloria R. Evans, of Pittsfield; two brothers, Herman Boudreau, of Brunswick, Maine, and Dominic Boudreau, of Cranston, R.I.; three sisters, Marguerite Bouchard and Theresa Turlo, both of Winslow, Maine, and Cecile Butler, of Augusta, Maine; three grandchildren, Marianne Ziaja McGrail, of Woodlands, Texas, Mark D. Ziaja and Nicolas Evans, both of Pittsfield; great-grandson, Patrick McGrail.
A funeral was offered May 29 in the Roman Catholic Ritual at the McBride Funeral Home, 6 Liberty St., Adams, MA 01220. Burial followed at the Southview Cemetery
in North Adams.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers contributions be made in his memory to the American Stroke Association through the funeral home.
Diane Demers
MAQUEBEC, Canada — Diane Demers of Lac Megantic, formerly Madison, died peacefully Friday, April 27, 2001, at St. Joseph hospital in Lac Megantic following a brief illness.
She was born Feb. 5, 1910, in Lac Megantic, daughter of Azilda (Payette) and Alfred Pratte. In 1940, she married Joseph Demers. In 1950, they moved to Madison, where they lived until they retired to Lac Megantic in 1976.
Grammy Demers' greatest joys were her children, her grandchildren and her great grandchildren.
She was a communicant of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Lac Megantic and formerly of St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Madison.
Survivors include two sons, Jean and his wife, Jo, of Embden, and Raymond and his wife, Wanda, of Madison; five grandchildren, Jeffrey and his wife, Naomi, of Fort Pierce, Fla., Jay and his girlfriend, Sandra, of Newburgh, Troy, Raymond Jr. and Bruce Demers, of Portland; four great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Germaine Byrns and her husband, Michel, of Lac Megantic, Lucienne Pratte Poulin, of Montreal, and Rita Fontaine and her husband, Alphege, of Sherbrooke; a sister-in-law, Clemence Lessard Pratte, of Lac Megantic, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband, Joe; a brother, Roger Pratte; two sisters, Lena Badeau and Carmelle Rodrigue.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Lac Megantic on April 30 and interment followed at St. Agnes Cemetery
in Lac Megantic. Arrangements were by Jacques & Fils.
Barbara J. Donaldson
SKOWHEGAN — Barbara J. Donaldson, 65, of Skowhegan, died Monday, May 28, 2001, at her home in Skowhegan.
She was born June 3, 1935, in Bristol, N.H., daughter of Ralph P. and Evan (Flanders) Collins, and attended Canaan and Skowhegan schools.
She was married first to Harris Farrand and then to Wayne Donaldson, both predeceased Barbara.
She was employed by Norrwock Shoe and MedWed Shoe Co. in Skowhegan for many years. She also was employed as a cook for the Whittemore Restaurant and for the Candlelight Restaurant in Skowhegan.
She was a past member of the Sandy River Grange in Mercer and worked with the Senior Citizens in Mercer. She enjoyed fishing,
hunting, camping, gardening and going for walks.
Survivors include one daughter, Marlene Anderson, of Skowhegan; a sister, Edith Shalnoff, and a niece, Marion Redford, both of Whitefield, N.H.
She was predeceased by a brother, William DeWitt.
A graveside committal service will take place at 1 p.m. Monday, June 4, at the Sunset Cemetery
in North Anson followed by a celebration of her life at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Centenary United Methodist Church, Dr. Mann Road, Skowhegan, with the Rev. Steve Bascom officiating. Arrangements are by Smart & Edwards Funeral Home in Skowhegan.
G. Jefferson Harris
MADISON — G. Jefferson Harris, 63, passed away unexpectedly at his home on the Russell Road in Madison, Monday, May 29, 2001.
He was born Jan. 26, 1938, in Portland, son of George M. Harris and Isabella (Gatten) Harris. Jeff had resided in Madison and Skowhegan since 1958.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Marlene (Burkhart) Harris; son, Matthew E. Harris and his wife, Melissa, of Hanover, Pa., and a daughter, Gretchen L. Harris, of Rockland; two brothers, Stephen Harris, of Portland, and Eric Harris, of Kittery; five sisters, Virginia Crim, of Gaithersburg, Md., Ellen Cranford, of Savannah, Ga., Linda Petrell, of Milford, Catherine Harris, of Skowhegan, and Alana Shaw, of Athens.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Mitchell Harris, William Harris, and James Harris.
Jeff was an elder in the Skowhegan Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses and enjoyed studying the Bible with numerous residents in the Somerset County area. He enjoyed walking in the woods, gardening, reading vintage Westerns, biking and many outdoor activities. He was an accomplished folk and bluegrass guitarist and made an album of folk music as part of the duo "The Two Brothers" in the 1960s.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, U.S. Route 201-N, Madison. There will be no visiting hours.
Gertrude A. Meader
OVIEDO, Fla. — Gertrude A. (Dubay) Meader, 84, of 3924 Neele Palm Place in Oviedo, died Thursday, May 17, 2001.
She was born in Anson, Maine, Sept. 17, 1916, the daughter of Joseph Dube and Rosanna Cote, of Anson.
She was a retired administrative supervisor at Rensellaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y., and moved to central Florida in 1996.
She is survived by her son, James P. Hilton, of Oviedo; grandchildren, Elizabeth A. and Ian G. Hilton, of Oviedo, and Geoffrey W. Hilton, of Dingmans Ferry, Pa.
A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 4, at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Madison, Maine. Arrangements are by Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home in Oviedo.
Marion S. Rosenthal
BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. —Marion S. Rosenthal, 72, a longtime Waterville resident in Maine, who moved to Boynton Beach in 1985, died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, after a short illness at the JFK Medical Center in Atlantis, Fla.
She was born March 31, 1929, in Portland, Maine, the daughter of Max and Esther (Whitney) Serlick, and graduated from Deering High School in Portland, class of 1947. She trained in Boston, and Lewiston, Maine, to be a laboratory technician and was employed in doctor's offices in Waterville.
She married Phillip M. Rosenthal, Oct. 26, 1952, and the two settled in Waterville.
Marion was employed by the Kennebec Valley Regional Health Agency helping conduct lead screening at clinics and in the field. She also assisted at times in the office at Ace Tire Co., a company founded by her husband.
She participated in the community theater in Waterville, appearing in 1968 in a production of Neil Simon's "Come Blow Your Horn." She was active in duplicate bridge.
Marion did volunteer work, including at the Kennebec Valley Mental Health Agency. She was a past president of the Beth Israel Synagogue Sisterhood in Waterville and in Boynton Beach was a member of Temple Torah.
She was predeceased by a sister, Rita Long.
Survivors include her husband of Boynton Beach; a sister, Harriet Kahn, of Waban, Mass.; two sons, Larry Rosenthal, of Cherry Hill, N.J., and Jeffrey S. Rosenthal, of Boca Raton, Fla.; two grandchildren, Elana and Ari Rosenthal, of Cherry Hill.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 31, at the Beth Israel Memorial Chapel in Delray Beach, Fla. Burial will follow at the Eternal Light Memorial Gardens in Boynton Beach. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1599 Clifton Road NE, Atlanta GA 30329.
Delbert P. Welch
MADISON — Delbert Philip Welch, 83, of Madison, died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at the Maplecrest Rehabilitation and Living Center in Madison.
He was born July 9, 1917, in Anson, son of Arthur K. and Eliza V. (Jackson) Welch, and graduated from Madison High School, class of 1936. He had lived most of his adult life in Anson, where he worked the family farm on the Horseback Road for many years. He then was employed at Waugh's Auto Body Shop in Madison until his retirement.
Survivors include his brother and family, Maurice and Bertha Welch, of Anson, Susan Welch, of South Portland, and Robert and Shirley Welch, of Asheville, N.C.
Friends and relatives may call from 12:30 p.m. until the 1:30 p.m. funeral Saturday, June 2, at the Giberson Funeral Home, 40 Maple St., Madison. Interment will be held at the East Cemetery
in North New Portland.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a memorial contribution to a charity of their choice.
C. Ross Buzzell
AUBURN — C. Ross Buzzell, 80, a resident of 480 Minot Avenue in Auburn, a Past Grand Master of Masons in Maine, died suddenly Tuesday evening, Aug. 7, 2001, at his home.
He was born in China, Maine, Dec. 14, 1920, the son of Charles Leslie and Bertha May (Jones) Buzzell, and attended China schools, graduating from Erskine Academy in 1938. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was employed as a machinist with Maine Central Railroad, retiring in 1980.
He married the former Ruth Emery, March. 11, 1943.
A well-known Mason, he was a member of Sebasticook Lodge 146 AF & AM in Clinton and a member of The Scottish Rite Valley of Augusta. He was elected and Installed as Most Worshipful Grand Master of Masons in Maine in 1982. A member of The York Rite Bodies, he was elected and installed as Most Excellent Grand High Priest of The Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Maine in 1984. He was coronated a Sovereign Grand Inspectors General 33rd degree in 1978. He was a member of Fireside Chapter Order of Easter Star, Eusebius Conclave 3 Red Cross of Constantine, Knight York Cross of Honour-Pine Tree Priory 65.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Buzzell, of Auburn; a son, Leslie E. Buzzell and his companion, Joanne, also of Auburn; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a sister, Verda Knowlton of Augusta.
A Masonic memorial service conducted by the Sebasticook Lodge 146 of Clinton will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, from The Auburn Masonic Hall, 1021 Turner Street, Auburn. Newton B. Crowe
SKOWHEGAN — Newton B. "Newt" Crowe, 91, of West Front Street and a longtime former resident of Gorham, died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, at a Skowhegan health care facility.
Born in Norridgewock, the son of Solomon and Bertha (Irving) Crowe, he attended Norridgewock schools, graduating from Norridgewock High School. He served in the U.S. Marines between World War I and World War II.
Newt was employed at Swift & Co. as a meat cutter, retiring in 1965. Following his retirement, he went to work for the Maine Turnpike Authority as a toll collector.
He was a 50-year member of the Independent Order of The Odd Fellows of Gorham, as well as a member of the Cantons, which is the military branch of the Odd Fellows. He was a 20-year member of the Gorham Fire Department, member of the Eagles Club and the American Legion, both of Westbrook.
His wife, Irene E. Tracy Crowe, died in 1990.
Survivors include four sons, Linwood S. Crowe of Hampton, N.H., Milford D. Crowe of Port Aransas, Texas, Gary W. Crowe of Sidney, and Dennis P. Crowe of Gorham; one daughter, Sandra E. Warren of Norridgewock; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Road, Windham, where a funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the family lot at Eastern Cemetery, Main Street, Gorham.
