Eleanor J. Mitchell
FARMINGTON — Eleanor Jack Mitchell, 99, of Farmington, died Monday, Nov. 13, 2000, at Orchard Park Nursing Care Center, in Farmington.
She was born in Farmington, Aug. 30, 1901, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert R. Jack, and was educated in Farmington schools, graduating in the class of 1919 from Farmington High School.
She graduated from Farmington Normal School in 1921 and received a bachelor's degree in 1959.
In 1925, Mrs. Mitchell married Edgar V. Bump, who died in 1933. In 1952, she married Ray W. Mitchell.
She was a teacher and a principal in Wilton schools for 44 years.
Mrs. Mitchell was a member of Old South Congregational Church, Colonial Daughters Chapter D.A.R., Order of Eastern Star 143, Farmington, honorary member of the Farmington Monday Club, Wilton Book Club, National Retired Teachers Association, Maine State Retired Teachers Association, and Franklin County Retired Teachers Association.
She was predeceased by her son, Jack A. Bump, of Houston, Texas, in 1994.
Mrs. Mitchell is survived by her husband, Ray W. Mitchell; a sister, Isabelle Pierson, of Wellesley, Mass.; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from noon until a 1 p.m. funeral service Friday, Nov. 17 at Adams Funeral Home, 108 Court St., Farmington, with Rev. Deborah Breault officiating. A committal service will be held in Riverside Cemetery, Farmington.
In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations in her memory to University of Maine at Farmington, Alumni Fund, 101 South St., Farmington, 04938.
Andrew J. DesRoche
FARMINGTON — Andrew J. DesRoche, 94, of West Farmington, died Monday, Nov. 13, 2000, at Edgewood Manor Health Care in Farmington, where he had been a resident since December of 1998, following a long illness.
He was born Jan. 12, 1906, at Prince Edward Island, the son of Joseph and Lena (LeClair) DesRoche and was educated in schools there.
Mr. DesRoche married Florence Shepard in November of 1934. She died Aug. 31, 1971. He then married Barbara Childs in 1973 in Farmington.
In 1932, he moved to Farmington, where he had resided since.
Mr. DesRoche owned and operated Andy's Barber Shop for more than 35 years, retiring Dec. 29, 1985.
He was a communicant of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Farmington.
Mr. DesRoche was a past member of Farmington Grange.
He was an ardent fisherman and
hunter
.
Mr. DesRoche is survived by his wife, Barbara DesRoche, of West Farmington; stepson Wendall "Ted" Barrett, of Worcester, Mass.; a brother, Peter DesRoche, of Kingston, Ontario; five stepgrandchildren and several stepgreat-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
At the request of the family there will be no visitation hours.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Middle Street, Farmington, with the Rev. Roger P. Chabot as celebrant. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Farmington.
Arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, 108 Court St., Farmington.
Burton I. Gould
WINSLOW - Burton I. Gould, 67, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Waterville, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Nov. 23, 1933, in Waltham, Mass., a son of James and Maude (Reynolds) Gould I.
He joined the U.S. Air Force and served eight years stationed in Texas.
He was employed by Harris Baking Co. and then was self-employed doing custodial work for many years at various businesses, including the old Boys Club/Girls Club. He was also a bus driver for the Waterville School Dept.
³Burt² had a love for birds and was an avid bird watcher. He also enjoyed World War II airplanes.
He was a member of Bourque-Lanigan American Legion Post 5, in Waterville. He was also a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 905, in Waterville.
Mr. Gould is survived by his wife of 38 years, Dee Gould, of Winslow; two sons, Jeffery Gould, and his wife, Lorretta, of Omaha, Neb., and Mark Gould, of Winslow; two grandchildren, Benjamin and Natasha Gould, of Omaha, who were the light of his life; two brothers, James Gould II, and his wife, Anna, of East Hartford, Conn., and Alfred, and his wife, Ellie, of Waterville; two sisters, Ida Varney, of Winslow, and Mary Veilleux, and her late husband, Richard, of Winslow; many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
There will be no visiting hours.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Monday, Dec. 4, at Notre Dame Catholic Church, Waterville. Committal prayers and interment will take place at 11 a.m. at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Old Belgrade Road, Augusta.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Oncology Department, 149 North St., Waterville 04901, or North Street Playground, c/o Ann Palmer, 46 Pleasant St., Waterville 04901.

Lois C. Phillips
AVON - Lois C. Phillips, 74, died Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, at her home in Avon, following a long illness.
She was born in Avon, June 4, 1926, the daughter of Leslie and Thelma (Orbeton) Campbell.
Lois married Andrew Phillips Sr., June 12, 1949.
She worked at Forster¹s Mill, retiring in 1988.
Lois was a member of Rebekahs. She started the first Alcoholics Anonymous group in Phillips, having the first meeting in her home in 1973.
She was an avid crafter, doing tatting, crocheting, knitting, painting, toll painting, and puzzles, both crossword and jigsaw. She also enjoyed her flower garden and watching birds at the feeders.
Lois was predeceased by six brothers, Donald, Robert, Seyward and Harland Wilcox, and Frank and Everett Spencer; a son-in-law, Gary Arsenault; and a granddaughter, Katrina Arsenault.
Mrs. Phillips is survived by her husband of 51 years; two sons, Leslie, and his wife, Karen, of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and Andrew Jr., and his companion, Shelly Abbott, of Phillips; two daughters, Mrs. Leigh (Terisa) Mitchell, of New Vineyard, and Mrs. Ethel Arsenault, of Kingfield; eight sisters, Mrs. Jessama Bourgoin, of Auburn, Mrs. Edward (Josephine) Gilchrist and Mrs. Harriet Haines, of Avon, Mrs. Malcolm (Moxa) Ridley, of Damariscotta, Mrs. Patricia Weeks, of Whitefield, Mrs. Elizabeth Attwood, of Lewiston, Mrs. Homer (Lillian) Julian, of Lakeland, Fla., and Mrs. Muriel Moores, of Clinton; three brothers, Charles Moody, of Middletown, Conn., John Moody, of Avon, and Gaylon ³Jeep² Wilcox, of Dallas Plantation; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, at Adams Funeral Home, Main Street, Phillips. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, at United Methodist Church, in Phillips, with Rev. Norman Boulay officiating. Interment will be in Mile Square Cemetery.

Drusilla L. Ordway
MADISON - Drusilla L. Ordway, 74, of Madison, died Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, at Maplecrest Rehabilitation and Living Center, Madison.
She was born Dec. 10, 1925, in Corinna, the daughter of Ralph and Marjorie (Bryant) Drew.
She was married to Earl Ordway, who died in 1987.
She was a member of Madison United Baptist Church, and the Philathea Club.
Mrs. Ordway was predeceased by two brothers and a sister.
She is survived by a daughter, Marjorie Clukey, of Skowhegan; two sons, David Paine and Donald Paine, both of Madison; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
There will be no visiting hours.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, at Forest Hill Cemetery, Madison, with the Rev. Cecil Jones officiating.

Brice M. Greenleaf
SKOWHEGAN - Brice M. Greenleaf, 97, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at Woodlawn Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Skowhegan.
He was born in Starks, Sept. 24, 1903, the son of Clyde and Bertha (McLaughlin) Greenleaf, and was educated in Starks schools.
Brice was married to Phyllis Nutt, who died Oct. 12, 1980.
He was a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 43 years, retiring in 1972.
Mr. Greenleaf is survived by three daughters, Jeanette Weber, of Gardiner, Virginia Hayden, of North Anson, and Rachel York, of Skowhegan; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
There will be no visiting hours.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, at Athearn Cemetery, Anson, with the Rev. Kevin Brooks officiating.

James W. Edwards
WATERVILLE - James W. Edwards, 56, of Waltham, Mass., formerly of Lexington, Mass., died unexpectedly Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, at Waterville, from complications of diabetes mellitus.
He was born June 30, 1944, in Winston Salem, N.C., the son of Ralph W. and Charis (Brown) Edwards.
James was a graduate of Boston Architectural Center.
He was employed by Sasaki Associates in Watertown, Mass., and later became a partner in the architectural firm, Livermore-Edwards Associates.
Friends knew him as an accomplished sailor, photographer, woodworker and fisherman.
He leaves his loving companion, Elaine Blair; his former wife, Sally (Howe) Edwards; and two sons, Simon, of Springfield, Mass., and Casey, of Savannah, Ga.
Visiting hours are from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, at Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Road, Lexington, Mass. Interment will be private.
Donations in his memory, may be made to the Diabetes Foundation, 149 Madison Ave., NY., N.Y.
