C. Madelyn Kearney
AUGUSTA C. Madelyn Kearney, of Congress Street, died Thursday, June 1, 2000, at Veterans Administration Hospital, Togus.
She was born in Stockton Springs, the daughter of Harry S. and Katheryn S. (Hooper) Kearney.
She attended Bangor schools and was a graduate of Ellsworth High School.
Madelyn also graduated from Providence Bible Institute, and received a bachelor's degree, from Barrington College, and a master's degree, in social work, from Indiana University. Madelyn also did a post-graduate fellowship at Rehabilitation Institute of New York, sponsored by Association for the Aid of Crippled Children.
In her younger years, she was supply pastor for several rural Maine churches.
She served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, as a chauffeurette for the Maritime Commission, and later joined the WAVES.
Madelyn was employed by the state of Maine, as a social worker, for many years, and had worked at several private agencies, including Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation, in New Hampshire, Home for Little Wanderers, in Waterville, and had last worked at Veterans Administration hospital, Togus, until her retirement in 1980.
She is survived by two brothers, Harry N. Kearney, and his wife, Louise, of Caribou, and Harold M. Kearney, and his wife, Marie, of New Sharon; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no visiting hours.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 5, at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Bucksport.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans Travel Services, Veterans Administration Hospital, Togus 04330.
Susan G. Gilbert
BELFAST Susan Gene Gilbert, 47, of Belfast, died Thursday morning, June 1, 2000, at Eastern Maine Medical Center, in Bangor, after a brief illness.
She was born Oct. 21, 1952, in Augusta, the daughter of Eugene L. Mooers II and Ruby L. Fisher.
She attended Gardiner Area High School and received a degree in nursing from University of Maine at Augusta.
Sue was a practicing nurse at Eastside Rehabilitation Center, in Bangor. She was proud of her nursing service given over the years throughout the state of Maine.
Sue was a member of Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband, Lee Gilbert, of Belfast; sons, Shawn McLaughlin, of Brewer, Daniel McLaughlin, of Farmingdale, Christopher McLaughlin, of Orono, Matthew McLaughlin, of Gardiner, and their father, Stephen McLaughlin, of Gardiner; and a granddaughter, Makayla McLaughlin, of Bradford. She will be remembered by close friends and relatives.
Sue's family invites family and friends to celebrate her life from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, June 2, at Veilleux Funeral Home, 8 Elm St., Waterville.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 3, at the funeral home with the Rev. Bruce Hudson officiating. Burial and committal service will follow, at Oak Grove Cemetery, Gardiner.
Tyler C. Allen
HALLOWELL Tyler Cooper Allen, 16 months, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, May 30, 2000.
He was born Jan. 28, 1999, in Augusta, the son of Curt and Pamela (Whitaker) Allen.
Tyler was a sweet and happy boy, with big blue eyes, who loved his blankie and pacifier. He also enjoyed riding in the car and playing outdoors.
He was an absolute joy to everyone he was around and will be very sadly missed by all.
Tyler is survived by his parents, Curt and "Pam"; a brother, Chad; and a sister, Laura, of Hallowell; grandparents, Stanton and Donna Whitaker, of Augusta, and Charles and Rebecca Allen, of South China; great-grandmothers, Elizabeth Allen, of Blue Hill, and Edna Zanella, of Bradenton, Fla.; an aunt, Diane, and her husband, Scott Smith, of Hudson, N.H.; and uncles David, and his wife, Jennifer Whitaker, of Presque Isle, and John, and his wife, Andrea Allen, of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and several cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 3, at Hope Baptist Church, Route 202, Manchester.

Richard Dostie
AUGUSTA Richard "Dick" Dostie, 71, of Boothby Street, died Wednesday evening, June 28, 2000, at MaineGeneral Medical Center-Augusta Division, after a long illness.
He was born July 16, 1928, in Augusta, the son of Adelard and Roseanna (Guennette) Dostie.
Mr. Dostie was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church.
He had been employed for 10 years at Dunkin' Donuts, as truck driver. He had also been employed as a custodian by the state in the State Office Building and at E.E. Taylor Shoe Co. as night watchman. For several years, he was employed as cemetarian for St. Mary's Old and New Cemeteries.
He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War, having served on the USS Forrest Royal.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Florence (Gilbert) Dostie, of Augusta; three daughters, Sharon Pearl, of Augusta, Tanya Hanson and her husband, Ben, of South China, and Rosemarie Smith and her husband, Jeremiah, of Monmouth; seven grandchildren, Richard Pearl, Shawn Pearl, Joshua Smith, Angelica Pearl, Travis Austin, Chad Austin, and Shannon Austin; five great-grandchildren, Kyle Richard Pearl, Alesha Marie Pearl, Trevor Austin, Eric Austin, and Nikki Austin; and an aunt, Cecile King, of Augusta.
Friends may visit 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, June 30, at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Monday, July 3, at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Burial, with military honors, will follow, at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Old Belgrade Road, Augusta.

Robert G. Johnson
WAYNE Robert Gage Johnson, known to family and friends as "Cap", was killed in an automobile accident, on Tuesday, June 27, 2000.
He was born March 27, 1927, in Newtonville, Mass., the son of William Fred and Ruth (Benson) Johnson. He grew up the brother of four siblings, and attended Pinkerton Academy and University of New Hampshire, graduating with a degree in English.
Cap served in the Air Force during the Korean War, stationed in Japan for three years. Following his discharge from the service, he met and married his wife, Carolyn Hescock, of Rochester, N.H. Together they raised three daughters, and enjoyed a rich family life.
He was a distinguished salesman by trade, employed by Nashua Corp. and Georgia Pacific. During this time, he received many awards highlighting his outstanding performance.
Mr. Johnson settled with his family in Wayne in 1967, and began to establish himself as an important member of the community. He served on the Wayne School Board, and was an adult literacy volunteer, a board member of Ladd Recreation Center and was a valued and loved volunteer at Wayne Elementary School.
He was a friend and companion to all, and will be sadly missed.
After his retirement, he pursued his love for woodworking and people by creating unique custom-crafted wood products in his shop in Wayne and distributing them throughout the state. He also enjoyed gardening, cooking, music, wildlife and reading.
One of his greatest and most treasured pleasures in life was the pride that he took in his immediate family, as well as the family he had developed for himself within the community.
He was predeceased by a sister, Barbara Walker, of Skowhegan.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, of 46 years, Carolyn, of Wayne; three daughters, and their families, Tena, and her husband, Dale Hinds, and their children, Andrew, Katie, and Jonathan, of Wayne, Kim, and her husband, Curtis Spencer, and their children, Christina and Casey, of Wayne, and Kris, and her husband, Rick West, and their children, Robert and Allyson, of Cape Elizabeth; two brothers, and a sister, Bill Johnson, of Salem, Peter Johnson, of Farmington, N.H., and Phyllis Kuligowski, of Farmington, N.H.; several nieces and nephews; and countless friends and acquaintances.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 8, at Wayne Community Church. A reception to celebrate his life will follow at his home on Coolidge Road, in Wayne.

Keith R. Foster
COCONUT GROVE, Fla. Keith R. Foster, 64, of South Bay Shore Drive, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at his home.
He was born June 2, 1936, in Augusta, Maine, the son of Russell and Madeline (Barton) Foster. He attended Williams School and was a graduate of Cony High School, class of 1954.
He graduated from the University of Maine at Orono, majoring in history and political science, and received a bachelor's degree.
Mr. Foster joined the U.S. Army in 1954, serving in Seoul, Korea, and was honorably discharged in 1956.
He had been employed as an executive with Hornwood Corp., of Wadesboro, N.C., and had since lived in Auburn, Maine, and Coconut Grove.
Mr. Foster was predeceased by his son, Michael Foster, in 1991, and a brother, Philip Foster, in 1997.
He is survived by his daughter, Michelle F. Paterson, her husband, Andrew, and their child, Nicole, all of Hubbardston, Mass.; two brothers, David A. Foster, and his wife, Marguerite, of Madison, Conn., and Thomas E. Foster, and his wife, Karen, of Augusta; his longtime friend and companion, Deborah Booth, of Coconut Grove; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends may visit 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13, at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 14, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, St. Andrew's Street, Augusta. Burial and committal prayers will follow, in Rest Haven Cemetery, Route 32, Windsor, Maine.

Carl F. White
AUGUSTA Carl Fowler White, 89, of Augusta, died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, at Augusta Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Feb. 25, 1911, the son of Frank Ruel and Effie (Fowler) White.
He married Muriel Hyacinth Jones, Nov. 21, 1928, and moved to Augusta in the summer of 1929.
Carl worked as a laborer most of his life. He worked at Bath Iron Works during World War II.
Mr. White was predeceased by his wife of 67 years on Nov. 11, 1995, a brother, Ruel White, a sister, Grace Douglas, and a sister, Mildred Littlelfield.
He is survived by two daughters, Madeline Wilhelmsen, of Brunswick, and Lillian Dayett, of Tavares, Fla.; a son, Raymond White, of Lakeland, Fla.; a brother, William White, of Bucksport; two sisters, Doris Treen, of Attleboro, Mass., and Marguerite Garnett, of Hallowell; a grandson, Everett Wilhelmsen, of Livingston, N.Y.; a granddaughter, Cheryl Smart, of South Carolina; two great-grandsons; two great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14, at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta. Burial will be in Forest Grove Cemetery, Augusta.
