Hannah M. Peters
1991-2003
DAMARISCOTTA — Hannah Marie Juliet Marjorie Thelma Peters, 11, of Jefferson, died unexpectedly, Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta.
She was born Dec. 27, 1991, in Augusta. She attended The Children's Center in Augusta until 1996 when she entered kindergarten at Laura E. Richards School in Gardiner. She transferred to Jefferson Village School in Jefferson in 1999 and was a much-loved student there.
Hannah was a special child in more ways than one. She touched the hearts of everyone she met with her smile. If you were having a bad day, a "Hannah Hug" and smile always made you feel better. Her smile lit up a room and her laugh was infectious.
Although Hannah could not speak, she "talked" with her smile, eyes, heart and body language. Her kisses were special and hugs were like love incarnate. She was a much-loved daughter, sister and student and will be sorely missed by all who knew her. She loved swimming, clapping people's hands, being read to and watching Joe Cupo and Kevin Mannix on Channel 6.
Hannah was predeceased by her infant brother Jason, her maternal grandmother Marjorie W. Pierson, her maternal uncle Stephen A. Wade and a great-aunt, Ethel Wade.
Hannah is survived by her parents, Linda and Wayne Peters of Jefferson; brother Joshua Peters of Jefferson; maternal grandparents Robert J. Pierson of Jefferson, Melvin G. Wade Sr. of Veterans Nursing Home in Augusta and his wife Harriett Wade of Farmington; paternal grandmother Helen Peters and companion George Vanasse of New Bedford, Mass.; paternal grandparents William Peters and wife Amy of Altona, Fla., and paternal great-grandmother Juliet Murais of Taunton, Mass.; great-great-aunt Sylvia Harriman of Winthrop; great-aunt Nina Mank and husband Sheldon of Readfield; great-uncle Ronald Wade of Winthrop; "Second Mom" Lori Lynn Chabot of Augusta; aunt Melissa Morrill and husband Tom of Windsor; uncles Elton Wade and wife Betty Jo of Litchfield, Melvin G. Wade Jr. and wife Joan of Sidney and Charles Wade of Clinton; aunt Kimberly Wade of Augusta; uncle Thomas Wade and companion Sue McIntyre of Gardiner; aunt Rhona Wade of Wayne; uncle Peter Wade and wife Nancy of Ocala, Fla.; uncle Robert Wade of Augusta; paternal great-aunt Nancy Durham of Taunton; aunt Wendy Peters of New Bedford; aunt Pamela Vaca of Freetown, Mass.; uncle Scott Peters of New Bedford; uncle Dale Peters and wife Kimberly of Ramstein, Germany; paternal cousins Kim Grundy and husband Brian of Berkeley, Mass., Jeff Durham and companion Sharon of Taunton and Jan Kingsbury of Maribista, Fla.; and numerous cousins and friends.
Visiting hours will be 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2003, at Staples Funeral Home in Gardiner. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 12, at Windsor Memorial Baptist Church on the corner of Reed Road and Route 32 in Windsor.
The family of Hannah M. Peters wishes to thank the teachers, staff and students at Jefferson Village School for making our daughter so welcome and loved. We would also like to thank the Jefferson First responders, Delta Ambulance Service and the doctors and nurses at Miles Memorial Hospital for their care of our daughter and sister. We appreciate your kindness in our time of loss.

Catherine Fernald Lawson
1946-2003
WINTHROP — Catherine Fernald Lawson, 56, passed away quietly in her sleep at Heritage Manor in Winthrop on Tuesday, April 8, 2003, with her loving family present.
Catherine was born on Dec. 20, 1946, in Augusta, the daughter of Charles and Margaret Fernald. She attended Cony High School. She lived and worked many years in Falmouth, Mass., and became activities director at several nursing homes.
She leaves behind her mother, a brother in Greeley, Colo., and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be postponed until further notice.

Andrea R. (Hewson) Burg
1948-2003
JEFFERSON — Andrea R. (Hewson) Burg, 54, part-time resident of Jefferson and full-time resident of Topsfield, Mass., died unexpectedly Tuesday, April 2, 2003, in Massachusetts.
Andrea was born on July 22, 1948. She attended schools in Natick, Mass., and Framingham College, and was formerly employed by General Electric and Schweber Electronics until her retirement to become a full-time mother to her daughter, Amanda.
Andrea's love of children was evidenced by her more recent work as a part-time substitute teacher in the public schools and her volunteer work along with her inseparable friend, Robin, as a Girl Scout leader.
She was the wife of James M. Burg and mother of Amanda. She was the daughter of the late Shirley Edwards Hewson and is survived by her father, Charles R. Hewson Sr. She is also survived by her sisters, Sandra Walton of Jefferson and Deborah Benedict of Ormond Beach, Fla.; and brothers Charles R. Hewson Jr. and Mark Hewson, both of Jefferson, and David Hewson of Waldoboro.
She was predeceased by her brother, Peter.
She will be missed by her many nieces, nephews, cousins, her sister-in-law Teresa Hewson, brothers-in-law Frank Walton and Bruce Benedict and friends.
Her hobbies include sewing, quilting, reading, furniture refinishing and, most recently, completing construction and decoration of her home on the shore of Damariscotta Lake.
A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, at St. Giles Episcopal Church, Route 126 in Jefferson. Interment will follow the memorial service at Hall Cemetery, East Pond Road, Jefferson.

Genevieve R. Fickett
1913-2003
AUGUSTA — Genevieve Reed Fickett, 90, of Augusta died Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at Coastal Manor in Yarmouth.
She was born in Ellsworth on April 1, 1913, the daughter of Almond and Margaret (Partridge) Reed.
Mrs. Fickett was a member of the National Health Care Association and past member of the National Remotivation Technique Organization and Maine Remotivation Council. She was a Registered Activity Coordinator, serving as Activity Coordinator for Williams Health Care for 12 years, and was past president of Central Activity Coordinators. She was also a member of the Board of Managers at a home for the aged, Riverside Drive, N.Y., for six years, member of the Zonta Club in the Augusta area, serving on the Zonta Board of Directors for two years, and was past president of the Business and Professional Women's Club in Augusta. Other memberships include the Cecelia Club in Augusta, MSEA, and the State of Maine Association of Retirees.
Mrs. Fickett served as organist at her husband's church in New York for nearly four years; was a member of the American Baptist Committee for Creative Art, Maine Chapter; and was a member of Penney Memorial United Baptist Church in Augusta. At one point in her life she was a private-duty nurse in the Portland area. She also taught residents in humanities, art, literature, history and, during conferences at the University of Maine at Augusta, music therapy.
Mrs. Fickett was predeceased by her husband, the Rev. John E. Fickett; her son, John R. Fickett; and a sister, Florence Jude.
Survivors include her daughter, Jean Small and her husband, Francis, of Cumberland; one sister, Mrs. Clarie Moore, of Brockton, Mass., formerly of Lewiston; 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 31, at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta.

Leslie Norman Crooker
1935-2003
RICHMOND — Leslie Norman Crooker, 68, passed away at Brentwood Nursing Center in Yarmouth, on Sept. 14, 2003.
Leslie was born on July 20, 1935, the son of Harry C. Crooker and Doris Briery. He lived in Richmond for most of his life.
He is survived by several brothers and sisters. He is also survived by his four sons, Randy, Robin and Richard Crooker of Bowdoinham and Larry Mosher of Auburn; two daughters, Faith Jones of Topsham and Billie-Jo Brainard of Augusta; and several grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, at 22 East Chestnut St., Augusta.
Maxwell Winter Moulton
2003
PITTSTON — Maxwell Winter Moulton, born June 23, 1908 at the family farm in East Pittston, son of Frank Guy and Florence Blodgett Moulton, died at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003.
He attended Pittston schools and graduated from Gardiner High School. He subsequently received an industrial arts degree from Gorham Normal School in 1933. He thereafter taught in a one-room school in Pittston, and became a school bus private contractor for the Gardiner School District. He also served on the SAD 11 School Board.
He was Town Clerk of Pittston for 40 years, retiring when he was 80. He also served as a notary public and a justice of the peace, performing what he called many "interesting" marriages. He was known as a poultry man, who raised hatching eggs as well as exotic breeds of geese. He was a lifelong member of the Pittston Grange and a past member of Gardiner Lodge AF & AM.
His interests included
hunting
, fishing, gardening and studying Maine history. His favorite author was C.A. Stephens of Norway.
He was predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Sylvia Alexander Moulton, in 1978.
Survivors include sons Alexander and his wife, Dorothy, and Samuel and his wife Lucy, both of Pittston; his daughter, Maxine Heath of Pittston, and his daughter, Cynthia and husband Albert Wescott of Norway; his wife, Ethel Moulton of Pittston; and four stepdaughters; he also leaves many grand, great-grand and great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Marie Leona O'Clair
2003
AUGUSTA — Marie Leona O'Clair died Sept. 19, 2003, in Augusta.
Inadvertently omitted from the obituary was a deceased brother, Robert Cote.
In addition to the surviving relatives listed in the obituary, there are nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild and one great-great-grandchild.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Rev. Richard St. Cyr, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Family Cemetery.

Geraldine F. Pushard
1934-2003
PITTSTON — Geraldine F. Pushard, 69, of Route 26 in Pittston, was born in Randolph on Feb. 7, 1934, a daughter of Merle A. and Margaret Storay Ware.
She passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Her husband, George Pushard, predeceased her on June 13, 2003. Geraldine enjoyed traveling to lawn sales with her husband and being around young people.
Her son, Mark Pushard of Pittston, and her granddaughter, Erin Pushard of Pittston, whom she raised, and several nieces, nephews and cousins survive her.
Visiting hours will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner, where an 11 a.m. funeral service will be held Friday. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Extension Cemetery, Randolph, beside her husband.
Jennie P. Jewell
AUBURN — Mrs. Jennie P. Jewell, 87, a resident of The Sarah Frye Home, in Auburn, died Friday morning, Feb. 18, 2000.
She was born in Auburn, Dec. 27, 1912, the daughter of Joseph F. and Sarah (Cook) Pierce and attended local schools.
Jennie married Leslie P. Jewell, who died in 1961.
She was predeceased by a son, Edward Jewell.
Survivors include a daughter, Florence Jewell Hatcher, of Memphis, Tenn.; a son, David I. Jewell, of Bradenton, Fla.; and four grandchildren, Sarah Hatcher, Timothy Jewell, Pamela Sue Wilson and Connie Fillion.
A graveside service will be held in the spring at Ridge Cemetery, Monmouth.
