Leland A. Hunt
1903-2002
RANDOLPH — Leland A. Hunt, 98, formerly of School Street, Randolph, died Saturday morning, March 30, 2002, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care at Gray Birch.
He was born in Randolph, April 26, 1903, the son of Freeman F. and Blanche May Corson Hunt.
Leland had been employed at Maine Central Railroad for many years, retiring in 1956. He married Mary Hazel Collins in Gardiner on July 6, 1972.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Hazel on July 6, 1972; and his sisters, Ruth Reed in 1987 and Pearl Moore.
Survivors include his sister, Virginia Moulton of Augusta; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
At his request, there will be no visiting hours. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 5, at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery
in Randolph.
William 'Bill' Jackson Jr.
1919-2002
WASHINGTON — William "Bill" V. Jackson Jr., 82, of Washington, died at the Maine Veterans' Home in Augusta, Monday, April 1, 2002.
He was born in Charlestown, Mass., Oct. 12, 1919, a son of William Sr. and Hazel (Peasley) Jackson.
He was the husband of Lillian (Chapman) Jackson.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and served as a construction machine operator in the battles of the southern Philippines.
He received the Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Campaign Ribbons and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one bronze star.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 09437 of Washington.
He is survived by one son, George Jackson and his wife, Ann; three grandchildren, Jennefer Jackson, Rebecca Jackson and Samuel Jackson, all of Fairfield; one brother, Merle Jackson of Pittston; and one sister, Frances Hawes of Washington; many nieces and nephews, and a special grandnephew, Rocky Wheelock.
He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Lillian; a daughter, Lavonne Jackson; and two brothers, Clifton Jackson and Merrill Jackson.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 4 at the West Washington Cemetery
in Washington, with the Rev. Glen Metzler officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Maine Veterans' Home, Cony Road, Augusta 04330.
Arrangements are in the care of Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, Gray Chapel, Windsor.
Paradis service
AUGUSTA — A Mass of Christian burial for Merilda Paradis, who died Saturday, March 30, 2002, was celebrated Tuesday morning at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Rev. Richard St. Cyr, pastor, officiating. Altar servers were Norman Aube and Gerard Morrissette. Organist was David Stewart and soloist was Arthur Pare.
The first reading was given by a stepdaughter, Joan Houghton and the second reading was given by a stepgrandson, Mark Fortin. Taking part in the offertory procession were nieces, Jeannine Albert, Jeanne Quirion and Rita Lachance. A eulogy was given by a stepson, Patrick Paradis.
There were representatives from the church, Ladies of St. Anne Society, St. Paul Cursillos, Le Club Calumet, Frank X. Pomerleau's, Jackie Arbour Beauty Salon, Kennebec County government and officials from the state.
Honorary pallbearers representing the Ladies of St. Anne were Joan Breton, Germaine Lessard, Rita Dostie and Carmelle Gregoire.
Active pallbearers were stepgrandsons Scott Paradis, Steve Paradis and Mark Fortin, and nephews Richard Paradis and Bill Paradis and Pete Brunelle.
Burial will be in the spring at St. Augustine Cemetery, Townsend Road, Augusta.
Arrangements were by Plummer Funeral Home, Augusta.
Glenn H. Tinsley
1947-2002
AUGUSTA — Glenn H. Tinsley, 55, of Capitol Street Extension, died unexpectedly March 31, 2002, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta.
He was born in Anna, Ill., Feb. 15, 1947, the son of William and Hazel (Daley) Tinsley.
Glenn attended schools in Anna, Ill., and entered the Army, serving in Vietnam. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Medal of Good Conduct. He worked for Elgin Carpet Sweeper Co. in Elgin, Ill. for 14 years and later worked for Anchor-Hocking in Danville, Ill.
He married Phyllis Pruitt in Danville on June 18, 1993. They had lived in New Hampshire, South Carolina and later moved to Maine. Glenn was well known in Augusta as a generous and caring person, who was always willing to lend a hand.
He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis J. Tinsley of Augusta; a son Timothy Tinsley of Carpentersville, Ill.; his stepsons, Bruce E. Caldwell Jr. of Royal Palm Beach, Fla., Ronald Caldwell of Henniker, N.H., and David Caldwell of Weare, N.H.; a stepdaughter, Tracy Pruitt of Veddersburg, Ind.; six brothers, Loil Tinsley of Cape Guardeau, Mo., Ferrell Tinsley of Danville, Robert Tinsley of Jacksonville, Ark., Harold Tinsley of French Settlement, La., Frank Tinsley and Ronald Tinsley both of Mounds, Ill.; four sisters, Maryann Adams of Cairo, Ill., Diana Honkla and Brenda Tinsley, both of Danville, and Linda Tinsley of Anna; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
There will be no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday April 5, at the First Baptist Church of Hallowell with Pastor Peter Inchcombe, officiating.

Anne Mae Weeks
1936-2002
VASSALBORO — Anne Mae Weeks, devoted wife, mother and grandmother, died April 2, 2002, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta, with friends and relatives at her side. Her death came after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 65. She was a resident of the Weeks Road in Vassalboro.
Mrs. Weeks was born in Gardiner, June 5, 1936, the daughter of Lewis Patrick and Mildred (Michaud) Patrick. She was educated in Gardiner and Augusta schools.
She had been employed as a dietitian by the Augusta School Department for 22 years. She was previously employed by Shaw's Supermarket, Aubauch Shoe of Brunswick and Ames Textile of Richmond.
Anne was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church of Augusta, past president of American Legion Post 132 Auxiliary, past president of Kennebec Valley Trail Riders Snowmobile Club and a member of the Chris Luber Club.
She had volunteered at Lakewood Manor Nursing Home in Waterville for several years.
Anne was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Lewis Patrick Jr.
Surviving are her husband, Ronald A. Weeks of Vassalboro; one son, Wayne L. Weeks and his wife, Nancy, of Vassalboro; one daughter, Rhonda K. Picard and her husband, Robert, of Vassalboro; four brothers, Frederick Patrick and his wife, Mary, of Augusta, David M. Patrick and his wife, Suzanne, of Whitefield, Frank Patrick and his wife, Marie, of Pittston, and Chandler Patrick and his wife, Kathy, of South Gardiner; her stepmother, Muriel Patrick of South Gardiner; six grandchildren, Amanda Weeks, Robbie Picard, Sheena Weeks, Randy Picard, Rona Weeks and Wayne Weeks II; one great-grandson, Damian Little; two aunts, Adeline Leister of New Hampshire, and Christine Patrick of Farmingdale; one uncle, Bill Buker of Gardiner, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visiting hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, April 4, at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Augusta. Burial will follow in the new Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.

Elinor L. Bangs
1915-2002
AUGUSTA — Elinor L. Bangs, 86, of Sewall Street died Sunday, July 28, 2002, in Gastonia, N.C.
She was born in Pawtucket, R.I., Dec. 9, 1915, the daughter of Fred and Jessie Haley.
Elinor was a licensed practical nurse at the Augusta General Hospital. She and her husband, Edward, moved to Arizona and attended Miracle Valley Bible College, receiving her doctorate in religion. She then went to work as a missionary, traveling to many areas to preach the Gospel, including much of Canada
, Mexico and the United States.
She was predeceased by her husband, Edward Bangs, in 1998.
She is survived by a daughter, Enid Murray of East Winthrop and North Carolina; a foster daughter, Roseanna Swan of East Winthrop and North Carolina; her nieces, Marsha Pykare of Monmouth and Margaret Pettengill of Augusta; her nephews, Ernest Bangs Jr. of Augusta and Mark Bangs of Old Town; and a grandnephew, Joshua Pykare of Monmouth.
Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Sunday, August 5, at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Stuart Hilton will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Grove Cemetery, Augusta.

Lucienne A. Boucher
1909-2002
PORTLAND — Lucienne A. Boucher, 93, of Ocean Avenue, formerly of Church Hill Road in Augusta, died July 30, 2002, at Cedars Nursing Care Center in Portland after a brief illness.
She was born in Augusta, Feb. 6, 1909, the daughter of David Giroux and Clara (Busque) Giroux.
Mrs. Boucher was educated in Augusta schools and, as a young woman, had been employed by Edwards Manufacturing Co. for several years. She was a homemaker in her own home for most of her life.
Mrs. Boucher was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church. Lovingly referred to as "Memère" by all who knew her, she had a strong commitment to her family, to whom she devoted her entire life. Her family was always a source of comfort and strength for her, and she will be sadly missed.
Her husband, Wilfred E. Boucher, died May 5, 1965. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Theresa P. Smith, July 7, 2002; a grandson, Oct. 31, 1969; and nine brothers and eight sisters.
Surviving are three sons, Harold Boucher and his wife, Sandra, of Augusta, Vincent Boucher and his wife, Linda, of Augusta, and William Boucher of Vassalboro; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a son-in-law, Richard Smith of Rome; a sister-in-law, Muriel Giroux of Augusta; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visiting hours are 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, August 2, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Seavey, pastor of St. Andrew's Catholic Church, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Augustine Cemetery.
