Anna E. Williams
BINGHAM — Anna E. Williams, 88, of Bingham, died Sunday, June 4, 2000, with the same peace and dignity with which she was born, surrounded by her family and surrounded by love at the Somerset Rehabilitation & Living Center in Bingham.
She was born March 26, 1912, in Bingham, daughter of Roy M. and Carolyn (Grindle) Savage.
Anna's strong belief in higher education was evidence by her graduation with honors from Oak Grove Academy, of Vassalboro, LaSalle Junior College in Newton, Mass., and Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing, in Boston.
Her years of dedicated service as a nurse included working in the offices of Dr. Sullivan, Dr. Perkins, Dr. Ball and Dr. Miller, all of Bingham, the former Thayer and Seton hospitals in Waterville, Deaconess and Children's Hospital, in Boston, Quimby Veneer Mill, in Bingham, Home Health Nurse for Kennebec Regional Health and provided health services to school children in SAD 13. Anna went above and beyond the call of duty for more than 25 years, caring for many ill people and families in both Kennebec and Somerset counties.
She devoted her time to various community organizations which included the Daughters of the American Revolution, Brownie and Girl Scouts, member of the committees for the Bingham Area Health Center and a member of the First Congregational Church.
Her beloved husband, Roger F. Williams, died previously.
Survivors include her daughter, Judith M. Miller, of Bingham; three grandchildren, Lisa Sherwood, of Nashua, N.H., Darren Witham, and wife, Cindy, of Canaan, and Wade Miller, of Auburndale, Mass.; five great-grandchildren, Brandon Sherwood, of Bingham, Zachery McIntosh, of Readfield, Savannah Witham, of Canaan, Kevin and Thomas Hutchins, of Canaan; brother and sister-in-law, Guy and Donice Williams, of Bingham; nephews, Dean Williams, of New York, Dale Williams, of Hampden, and Cullen Williams, of Hampden; grandnephews, Derek and Roger; grandnieces, Meghan, Shawna, Chelsey, Carla and Casey.
As she wished, there will be no service or visiting hours. Interment will be at the Bingham Village Cemetery. Arrangements are by Giberson Funeral Home of Bingham.

Anna L. Stanley
THORNDIKE — Anna L. Stanley, who died June 2, was also survived by three sisters, Shirley Stearns, of Canaan, Carrie Lambert, of Shawmut, and Grace Kolreg, of Oakland; and was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Corson.
Joyce LaBarge
SKOWHEGAN — Services for Joyce LaBarge, 73, of Mesa, Ariz., who passed away Jan. 4, 2000, will be held Saturday, July 8. A private graveside service will be held at the Catholic Calvary Cemetery.
Anyone who wishes to share in Joyce's new life is invited to join the family beginning at noon, July 8, at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Water Street, Skowhegan.
Kenneth Plummer Wood
WATERVILLE/SOMERVILLE — Kenneth Plummer Wood, 47, of Western Avenue in Waterville and a former resident of Somerville, died Saturday, July 1, 2000, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Thayer Campus, Waterville, from complications of kidney disease.
He was born in Augusta, April 5, 1953, the son of Richard and Gloria (French) Wood, and attended local schools.
He had been employed by Hallowell Shoe Co. Despite his illness, which left him totally blind, Kenneth had been employed at the X-Ray Department in Waterville at the former Mid-Maine Medical Center until recent years.
Ken was grateful for the support and treatment that he received at the hospital on both the medical unit and the dialysis unit.
Surviving are his mother, Gloria Wood Hill, of Somerville; his daughter, Erica Cox, and husband, Marshall, and his granddaughter, Kayla Wood, all of Fairfield; his two stepsisters, Crystal Hill, of Texas, and Shelby Brown, of North Dakota; three aunts, Evelyn French, of Somerville, Mary Kimball and Mary Ferguson, both of North Whitefield; an uncle, Paul French, of Augusta; several cousins, and many friends, including his close friend, Jim Dostie.
His father, Richard Wood, his stepfather, Bill Hill, and his uncle, Bucky French, all died previously.
At his request, no visiting hours are planned. A graveside funeral and committal prayers will be offered at 4 p.m. Monday, July 3, at Sand Hill Cemetery
in Somerville with the Rev. Warner Howard officiating.
If desired, the family suggests memorial gifts to either Delta Ambulance, Waterville, or Sand Hill Cemetery

Ethel C. Collier
OAKLAND — Additional survivors of Ethel C. Collier, who died July 1, are her son-in-law, Alfred Boucher, and daughter-in-law, Linda Collier.
Betty Ann Martin
BENTON — Betty Ann Martin, 53, of Benton, passed away Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, at her home following a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born Sept. 21, 1946, in Waterville, daughter of the late Francis and Rita (White) Guerin, and graduated from Waterville High School.
She married Thomas H. Martin Sr., Oct. 3, 1964, and was married 35 years before he passed away Dec. 9, 1999.
Betty was a waitress at area restaurants before she and her husband formed T.H. Martin & Sons Construction Co. in 1985.
She was a member of the East Benton Christian Church, Country Cousins Snowmobile Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary in Winslow and belonged to the East Benton Community Club.
She loved to fish, hunt, snowmobile and play Beano.
Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
Survivors include her four children, Thomas H. Martin Jr. and wife, Angela, of Poland, Stephen B. Martin and wife, Tara, of Benton, Scott Martin and wife, Bridget, of Benton, and Laura Kent and husband, Bryant, of Benton; her grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Connor, Sydnie, Stephanie, Justin, Nathan, Kolby and Kassidy Martin, and Benjamin and Thomas Kent; four brothers, Francis Guerin and wife, Priscilla, of Winslow, Robert Guerin and wife, Bernice, of Fairfield Center, Richard Guerin of Waterville, and William Guerin and wife, Kathy, of Bowdoinham; two sisters, Teresa Paulette of Waterville and Patricia Martin and husband, Henry Jr.; her father- and mother-in-law, Henry and Julia Martin Sr., of Benton; her close friends, Richard and Mary Shibles of Benton, and Janice Kent of Benton; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, at the East Benton Christian Church with the Rev. Timothy Hunt officiating. Burial will follow at the Brown Cemetery
in Benton.
Following the service, family and friends will be gathering at Scott Martin's home, 231 Richards Road, Benton, for a time of fellowship.
The family suggests that donations in her memory may be made to the East Benton Christian Church Building Fund, 496 East Benton Road, Benton ME 04901.
Abbie E. Brown
NEWPORT — Abbie E. Brown, 84, of Newport, died Saturday morning, Nov. 11, 2000, at a Pittsfield health care facility following a long illness.
She was born May 5, 1916, in Detroit, daughter of Everett and Blanch (Lord) Pond. She was the wife of Darrell Brown, who died in 1978.
She was employed for several years in the lunch program at the Newport schools; she later was employed at Banton Brothers Inc. in Newport.
Abbie was a devout Christian who was a member of the Peoples United Methodist Church in Newport. She loved working the church rummage sales and helping with church suppers. Her true joy was giving rides to the elderly who could not drive and to just enjoy conversation with her many friends.
She was the loving mother of David, who died in 1948, Richard (Deacon Brown), who died in 1977, and of her two surviving sons, Dana, of Newport, and Bruce and his wife, Melissa, of Palmyra. Survivors also include four granddaughters, Linnette, of Newport, Denise, of Boston, Erica, of Providence, R.I., Elicia, of Kittery, and two grandsons, Jamie, of Newport, and Matthew, of Newport; three step-grandchildren, Jeff, of Newport, Cheryl, of Winslow, and Betsy, of Augusta; her brother, Charlie Pond, of Winthrop, and Beatrice Priest, of Dover, N.H.; six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Lillian and Evelyn, and her brother, Lloyd.
At Abbie's request there will be no visiting hours. A celebration of life will be held in honor of Abbie at the Peoples United Methodist Church in Newport at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14. In lieu of flowers, friends who wish may make memorial donations to the Peoples United Methodist Church, 131 Main St., Newport ME 04953. Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home of Newport.
Otis C.L. DeMerchant
EAST MADISON — Otis Charles Leo DeMerchant, 83, surrounded by his loving family at his home, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, following a brief illness.
He was born Aug. 24, 1917, in Easton, and married Thelma Doak, July 16, 1939. Otis served during World War II in the South Pacific as a 1st Carpenter's Mate in the SeaBee's 105 Battalion. He later became a carpenter and a dairy farmer. At one time he and his wife also owned school busses and drove them for the Madison School District.
Otis enjoyed his family very much, especially at his camp in Rockwood. He could also be found lending a helping hand to someone in need. It was appropriate that Otis passed away on Veterans' Day because he would often jokingly say, "I can do it because I am a veteran."
Otis will be greatly missed by his wife of 61 years, Thelma; sons, Gary DeMerchant and his wife, Sharon, Laurence DeMerchant and his wife, Dianne, and Gale Westerveld, his adopted daughter; grandchildren, Rob DeMerchant and his wife, Kim, Kim Ullrich and her husband, Kevin, Paul DeMerchant and Michelle DeMerchant; great-grandchildren, Benjamin Ullrich-DeMerchant, Victoria Ullrich, and Seth DeMerchant. Otis is also survived by his brothers, Eugene DeMerchant and his wife, Edie, Philip DeMerchant and his wife, Jane, all of Foster, R.I.
He was predeceased by his brother, Benjamin DeMerchant.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gideons International or the Crossroads Bible Church Youth Department. There will be no viewing hours. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, at Crossroads Bible Church in Madison. A reception will follow immediately at the family home in East Madison.
Lourdes L. Johnson
SHREWSBURY, Mass. —Lourdes L. (Hanlon) Johnson, 72, of Edgemere Drive in Shrewsbury and Harwich Port, Mass., and Fort Myers, Fla., a retired registered nurse, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, at UMass Medical Center, Memorial Campus, Worcester, Mass., after a brief illness.
She was born in Worcester, daughter of John and Juilette Hanlon, and had lived in Shrewsbury many years. She was a graduate of South High School, class of 1947, and Hahnemann Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1950. She was a registered nurse at the former Hahnemann Hospital and Salisbury Nursing Home in Worcester.
She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church and Hahnemann Hospital Nursing School Alumni Association. She enjoyed beach combing, sewing, furniture refinishing, cooking and yard sales.
She leaves her husband of 49 years, Malcolm J. Johnson; son, William F. Johnson, of Vassalboro, Maine; daughter, Kathleen M. Lawton, of Shrewsbury; sister, Mary Porciello, of Clinton, Mass., and two stepsisters, Patricia McMorrow, of Burlingame, Calif., and Elizabeth Prenier, of Pembroke, Maine; seven grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son, Paul M. "Booger" Johnson, in 1996; a brother, John W. Hanlon, a bomber pilot, who died when his plane was shot down after a bombing run to the Aleutian Islands during World War II. Her funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, from the funeral home, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1290 Grafton St., Worcester. Burial will be held at the Mountain View Cemetery.

Virginia McKenney
MADISON — Virginia McKenney, 79, a lifelong resident of Madison, died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Thayer Unit, Waterville.
She was born Aug. 6, 1921, in Madison, daughter of Alton and Minerva (Sawyer) McKenney, and attended Ward Hill School in Madison.
Virginia was a member of the United Baptist Church in Madison.
Survivors include a son, Ronald McKenney, of Anson; sister, Gertrude Luce, of Madison; many nieces and nephews.
A graveside memorial service will be held at a time and date to be announced at the Forest Hill Cemetery
in Madison. Arrangements are by Giberson Funeral Home of Madison.
Elsie E. Sheaff
BINGHAM — Elsie E. Sheaff, 92, a longtime resident of Bingham, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, at the Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan.
She was born April 25, 1908, in Skowhegan, daughter of Alfred and Clara (Beusque) Thibeault, and attended Skowhegan High School.
One of her favorite pastimes was ice fishing with her husband, Kelsey, at Wyman Lake; her husband, Kelsey F. Sheaff, died previously.
Survivors include two sons, Richard Sheaff, and his wife, Gertrude, of Skowhegan, and Gerald Sheaff, and his wife, Peggy, of Madison; two daughters, Patricia Sheaff, of Leeds, and June Warran and her husband, Bill, of Orlando, Fla.; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; sister, Anna Cyr, of Skowhegan.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, at the Giberson Funeral Home, River Street, Bingham, with father Maurice Morin officiating. Interment will be held at the Robinson Memorial Cemetery
